The Queensgate Hotel

The room was very stufffy and there was no fan available. Choice of breakfast was excellent. Bar was well stocked and plenty of parking available.

The property was very convenient to the city centre which was a short walk away. Free on site parking. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly. The property is a bit tatty on the outside but as a budget stay option it was ok

Convenient decent sized rooms and free parking. Been nice to have at least a continental breakfast before 8am but ok apart from that.

The room was ok, a little tired perhaps. There was no shower gel in the shower which I didn't find out until I was already naked and wet. - this was replaced when I told them but that didn't help the first shower. The carpet had not been vacuumed or not done properly as there were what looked like peanuts by one side of the bed. The evening meal first night we were only offered a burger and chips - it was basic but it was ok. The breakfast was very poor, the food had been kept warm too long so the sausages, bacon, hash browns and black pudding were quite hard, the baked beans were dried up and stuck to the edge of the container and serving spoon, the scrambled egg was also quite dry. We ate out the second night and when we returned to the hotel we were told there was no chef so no food that evening. Good job we had eaten out already. 2nd day breakfast we came down earlier thinking it may not be so dried up - we were wrong, if anything it was worse, the black pudding was so hard you could not get a fork into it. The coffee was cold on both days, it seemed the percolator hot plate did not work. All things pointed out to staff and on day one a fresh brew of coffee was put on and was hot, I didn't bother on day 2. Drink prices at the bar to me were good, we come from the south east. Staff we engaged with were always pleasant and as helpful as they could be. Proximity to city centre was good, a short walk away and the price was reasonable, both of which were why we stayed here.

Convenient for late night arrival after a gig. Free parking. Good value breakfast. Clean and neat room with gd shower. Million times better than Travelodge options. Reasonable price for Saturday night.

Room was functional and very clean but what let it down was, there was no food. On line a restaurant is advertised and when i turned up there were signs everywhere pushing the new menu but when i asked, i was told there were no staff and thus no food. The man there was very helpful and suggested McDonald's, KFC or a local curry house. I chose the latter and it was disgusting

The property is of an age where some upgrading would definitely improve the image. Priced below other hotels it is clearly popular. I found the staff indifferent at times, friendly at others. The room was reasonably clean though I discovered an old discarded wrapper under the bed. The shower was difficult to operate, particularly for temperature. A glass or tumbler for the bathroom would have been welcome. The car park is often full with workers' vans at night, so late arrivals may have to find somewhere else to park, street parking is unavailable in the immediate area.

At a bargain price the hotel was very clean and of a good standard. The staff friendly and accommodating. Free parking, clean, modern spacious rooms, what more could you ask at that price. I was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be one to recommend and stay again.

The bathroom was tiny. The lid of the loo pressed on my back when I used it. The water from the sink tap sprayed over the lip of the tiny sink which was too small for a face wash. The hot/cold water was dependent on who was flushing the loo elsewhere at the time and was too often too scalding to use. The carpet is horrendously stained, the room reeked of cat pee, doors banged, footsteps upstairs woke me up early o'clock. All in all, I very much got what I paid for: a cheap stay in a cheap hotel.

Very grubby in places throughout. In the room the Shower curtain soiled, threadbare bathmat, grouting around bath/shower very grubby. On looking out of window there is a flat roof below which was covered in moss and cigarette butts. Bar/reception area looked very clean. Wouldn’t stay again

Shower and sink FILTHY wasnt washed at all , Bathroom door on outside dirty , net curtains dirty , 1 bath towel for 2 ppl and pillows flatter than a pancake . Bed not made correctly.

Room 55 was very warm as well as the hot water. Unfortunately not very clean, there was some stains looking like blood or vomit on a chair,wonder of they have ever been wiped by cleaners. Also the floor has some food particles on the first day. Auto door lock was not self locking after leaving the room, so had to take all valuables when going out Window handles were working but broken. Mattress ok,too soft for my taste. Bed was very narrow and short, no one above 5'5" would fit in. Shower temperature was good, bit tricky to operate. The temperature knob was very tight and coming out. Also not very clean, had mould on silicon. Toilet was not properly cleaned on first day, there were some stains and poo in it.

What is in the main pictures of the hotel does not correspond to reality. The hotel is very worn, broken and dirty. There is mould in the room and in the bathroom. Really dirty. Only the staff were nice. I called several days in advance to say that I needed a room off the main road because I don't sleep well at night. The reception staff promised to write down my request, but upon arrival, I was given a room with windows directly on the main road. Disappointment. I asked for a new room on the opposite side. I got a more pleasant and quiet room, but I was shocked by how much mould there was in the bathroom and in the room. Pictures attached. I don't understand how they can afford to offer rooms with mould. The bed itself was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was also clean, but everything else (corridor, doors, walls, carpets...) was sticky from old dirt. As the pictures show, the doors haven't been cleaned in years and the carpets need a deep clean too. Some of the windows were old and broken. The hotel urgently needs a better manager and renovation, deep cleaning and someone qualified to organize the rooms.

Unfortunately the hotel is quite run down, needs a huge overhaul. Just so much wrong with it, toilet didn’t work properly, struggled to flush it properly, shower temperature was incredibly difficult to change due to the knob being next to impossible to turn. A lot of dust in places, behind the radiators in particular, years of build up, curtains stained, damage to walls, windowsills, furniture… etc. There was literal hair all over the shower drain. Visible immediately without having to actually look for it. We could feel every spring in the mattress. Just overall, unpleasant.

Arrived at hotel, went to room and bedding was blood stained and soiled with urine, bathroom dirty, sink and toilet. Reported to receptionist who changed bedding, apology but no compensation offered.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at queensgate hotel as it was conveniently located. Overall for the price we paid it was worth it however must admit the mattresses has seen better days and could do with new ones. I was tempted to turn it to the other side in the middle of the night but didn’t want to disturb my husband. Secondly Glad I brought my own portable fan as there is no air con in the rooms and it gets very hot in the night. Would recommend this hotel and hoping to return and maybe the mattresses will by then been replaced. Thank you

Hotel was clean and comfortable, but very noisy. The window was an old-fashioned sash, which let in a lot of traffic noise. Also the room next door was still noisy at midnight. There were several males in the room talking. I asked to be moved to a quieter room. This was round the back so I wasn’t kept awake by the traffic, but another room close by had the TV on loudly until past 4 am. I expect reasonable noise on a Saturday night, but this wasn’t reasonable, as I needed to get up early.

Terrible Experience – Avoid This Property! I had an extremely disappointing stay. A basic amenity like cold shower water was missing — completely unacceptable. What’s worse, the management team was unresponsive, and despite multiple attempts, Expedia couldn’t reach them either! If even Expedia can’t get in touch, that tells you everything about how poorly this place is run. Save yourself the frustration and book elsewhere if you value even the most basic comfort and reliable service.

Very friendly and helpful staff

I have just stayed at the Queensgate Hotel on a business trip. The staff were superb from check in to leaving. The hotel was very clean. I was using a function room for the purpose of my travel. The staff set the room up after asking my requirements and were very accommodating to any needs of the delegates attending the training. Housekeeping staff were very friendly and polite as were the front of house staff and anyone that worked at the property including the Manager. Nothing was too much trouble and I was always greeted with a smile. I am booked to return next week and am looking forward to my return. Many thanks to everyone at the Queensgate Hotel.

Staff was great couldn't fault them

My travelling companion unfortunately left his coat in the room - the hotel retrieved it and bagged/boxed it to enable it to be collected by Royal Mail and he had it back in a few days.

Always a warm welcome and it is very clean and. Confortable and a special shout Out to The lovely man at reception who cheered me up, after a nightmare journey

The WiFi is super slow and the TV channels are glitchy. The pictures on the website used too book the room do not match the reality. On the last night there was someone smoking out the window and playing loud music till 3am. No one available on night service to take action. Very unsatisfied

Quaint home, clean and pleasant staff. Near City Center and very near trail station.

1 minute walk from football stadium, so was empty as United were at home. Great. The chap on duty took me through everything regarding my stay. When the subject of breakfast was raised, I was told it started at 8am, I start work at that time so not what I wanted to hear. However, I had checked on the website that said from 6.30. So I had paid my money. 'Ah! that could be the early bird Sandwich, available from 5am to 7am'. So I ordered this and watched him enter all this on his computer and leave a message as well. Next morning I came down at 7am and said I had a breakfast ordered for that time. The guy on duty said he knew nothing about it, he had had a call as the duty guy had phoned in sick 2 hours previously, and he had only just turned on the ovens. So what happened with my order?. There were cereals - no thanks - and a toaster. Did he offer any bread?, no. He went outside for a cigarette with another guest. I had 2 cups of coffee and left for work. The lack of communication between staff was disappointing to say the least, and needs work. Good room,so apart from the breakfast issue would possibly stay again

A hotel with a labyrinth of corridors! Room was mostly clean, good shower, comfy bed but mould near the ceiling on 2 walls. Breakfast was not that good tbh, sour milk and suspiciously quick full English which looked like it was pre cooked & heated up.
