A very tired hotel now - long past its prime. Staff tried their best in the circumstances for sure but parking on the weekend a nightmare - not enough spaces for the venue and too many functional guests commanding the parking .lifts off - only one working, breakfast during the week heated too long under ‘keep warm lights’ to be classed as fresh ! What a shame a far cry from its iconic Gosforth Park Hotel days long ago.

I always use this hotel when visiting family in Newcastle and usually never have any problems however on this occasion I was a little disappointed that the price to use the leisure facilities had gone up to £7.00 instead of £5.00. I wouldn't have minded but the jacuzzi wasn't working, the steam room didn't have it's usual fragrant smell. It wasnt a nice smell in there at all and I had to leave. There was no soap working in any of the showers. ( I tried them all!) The towel I was provided with had seen better days. Grey instead of white and very worn fraying at edges. I feel if they put the prices up then surely the facilities should be up to scratch. Shouldn't be putting the prices up and the quality going down

Room 331 back on to the lift shaft. How did I know? Because you could hear the lifts arrive and open the doors every time they reached floor 3!! Breakfast was excellent with a great choice. Shame guests get charged £7 to access the pool.

All of the staff were all very friendly. Our evening meal and breakfast were really nice. Only complaints would be that the bedroom was very cold, even with the heating on. The windows need updating, and also as we were leaving by the exterior stairs at reception near the overflow car park the top tread completely came away. One final point in the leisure facilities, the jacuzzi was lukewarm, and the plunge pool was freezing cold.

One issue spoiled what would have been an excellent trip. Hidden charges for using the pool and gym! I paid to stay here because it had facilities, I don’t expect to then be told it’s £7 a day to use them.

My sec f trip to this hotel, I always get a great welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Love the location and grounds too. A swimming m and steam in the morning was great although the charge to guests staying at the hotel I thought was steep.

The room I had was tiny and a good 10 minute walk - to the basement- away from reception. I’ve stayed in this hotel many times, and although it’s a bit dated now, its always been a pleasant stay. It looked like they have converted either old offices or storage space into bedrooms. The room was just about ok for one person and the bathroom was decent enough but not sure they have done much with sound proofing as I could here next door quite loudly. One of the attractions of the hotel is being able to use the pool and the gym, but that’s now chargeable (£7.50 for a day pass) The equipment in the gym was either not working, absent or really out of date. Sorry to say but I’ll probably stay at the hotel opposite which is about the same price but with a nicer bar & restaurant.

I opted for this hotel which was more expensive because it had a pool not only to find when we got there that you had to pay for the pool every morning but noone under the age of 16 is allowed. Not great when your a single parent. There was also just bedside lights to light up the room and as we arrived at night we did not notice until the next day all around the windows and curtains was cover in 2 different types of thick black and white mould which it looked like was also up the wall. This is probably the worst hotel i have ever stayed in.

The reception area, lounge, breakfast room and bar area is beautifully decorated and welcoming. Modern but homely. We arrived and checked in, the hotel had granted my request to have 2 rooms next to each other. We went to a room on the 2nd floor. Then it went downhill. The bed had hairs in it, bathroom was dirty, TV didn't work, wardrobe door was hanging off and there was a dog in the room near us barking continuously. I rang reception to inform them and they kindly offered to move me rooms. Unfortunately, i had to go down to reception, carting 4 bags of luggage with me and my son. It would have been helpful if someone could have brought the new room key to us. We were given a room on the 3rd floor. Entering the room, there was a unpleasant smell, no wardrobe doors this time but the room was cleaner, the TV worked and no hairs in the bed. The bathroom unfortunately was still dirty with hairs. I cleaned it myself as i couldn't be bothered to move all our luggage again. The heating was broke and when i rang reception to inform them, they could only send an engineer out the next morning. Luckily we had taken a thick blanket so used that to keep warm. There was mould along the windows and the carpet wasn't very clean. I'd advise to take slippers. They are upgrading the rooms and i would stay again once this has been completed because the service was great. Pool was nice and warm. Food was lovely, both breakfast and evening meal. Great service just very dated rooms.

All though we had a reasonable stay, the room could have been cleaner and the broken fan removed. The hotel itself is very tired and in need of some renovations. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The grounds and gardens are rather neglected with quite a lot of rubbish around. I guess however that this is one of the better Britannia hotels to stay in

Very old room and very dirty. Curtains hanging off and furniture from the 80s. Whole place needs refurb or knocking down. Every cup I turned over was filthy. Will never stay again.

Rooms are spacious and have everything you need. Beds are comfy. Good value and location is great. All staff are lovely. Cleanliness needs to be improved - we found a previous guests hair trimmings on the desk area and carpets need a good clean.

Booked a small double. It was miles away from main hotel not served by a lift so lucky we had only small luggage. Elderly would definitely struggle. Not clear at booking. Room was minute and cramped rather than small but that was not a major issue for us. It would be for the larger person. Main problem was complete lack of WIFI. Called reception to report this to be informed there had never been any complaints before so tough luck basically. The network the receptionist suggested wasn't even coming up as available. Same story on 3 different devices. I asked to move room but was dismissed. Called a while later to be told the matter was 'being looked into'. No apology and no update was given. A totally miserable night and very poor customer service. My teenage son was amused by the antics of the couple next door as the walls are very thin - there is really no privacy. Ladies at the beauty salon were very helpful and fitted me in for a last- minute manicure. There is a charge to use leisure facilities which is fair enough but was not clear at time of booking.

On arrival cfm 'd my booking of cosy double. Gave room number and key and directed to follow the signs. What I wasn't expecting was the journey to the basement and service area involving 6 flights of stairs, double & single doors and long corridors. Room itself was small clean and compact but suitable for our stay. We spoke to reception about our disappointment that evening, but were basically told we'd purchased a cosy double saud yes but i wasnt aware it was in the basement! Really would recommend as dampened our experience of this hotel and won't be staying again. Also note the rooms ARE NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE and anyone mobility compromised may find it difficult to get to your room. Advise to contact and let them know. Won't let me upload pics

I booked a standard double room however when i got there they told me they had none of those rooms available and placed me in a room with no windows. This room was in a secluded part of the hotel and had no aircon so the room was absolutely boiling. I've stayed here many times before and never had an issue with the comfort of the beds however this room was extremely uncomfortable i had no sleep as the bed and pillows were like rocks and the room was red hot. I received no refund even though i payed more money for my original room and the room i was placed in was cheaper.

One of the attractions of the hotel is being able to use the pool and the gym, but that’s now chargeable (£7.50 for a day pass) The equipment in the gym was either not working, absent or really out of date. The room I had was tiny and a good 10 minute walk - to the basement- away from reception. I’ve stayed in this hotel many times, and although it’s a bit dated now, its always been a pleasant stay. It looked like they have converted either old offices or storage space into bedrooms. The room was just about ok for one person and the bathroom was decent enough but not sure they have done much with sound proofing as I could here next door quite loudly. 2 x key cards given at reception on check in. Went to room didn’t work, back to reception again. And they didn’t work for the second time. Went to reception and the porter came to room to check they didn’t work, let us in with the magic card that works every room. Told to collect a card on the way out. Went out card not ready told a card would be ready for coming back to hotel and it wasn’t. A porter had to get us back in our room. Absolutely shocking room not ready. Disappointed service

Power tripped in room when we went to use beside lamps. Staff could not get all power back on so we had to move rooms at 9.15 on the night after we had unpacked everything earlier in the day. Staff support was good but not ideal after returning to the hotel.

Great Hotel with super friendly and efficient Staff … shout out to Andrew on Reception especially but honestly all the staff, be it those in the bar/restaurant, the spa/gym or those looking after the rooms, they were all absolutely fantastic.

We initially booked a small double which in fact was very small- loose headboard, uneven bed base and very noisy radiator! After speaking to the lovely young man on reception he moved and upgraded our room straight away. Rooms are comfy although quite dated they are more than adequate for a 1 night stay. A little noisy from adjacent rooms but did not affect our stay- will most definitely return Thankyou

Had an excellent 2 night stay and was sp close to Newcastle racecourse as we had come up for the races... bed so comfy and lovely room. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend, and will stay again.

Stayed here 4 nights, first impressions were good but slightly dated. Curtain was hanging off rail, which was promtly fixed. But hook was just took off other end so that end was hanging off!. The matteress was quite hard , but everyone likes their own bed. The room was clean and catered for our needs. We did use the hotel breakfast option , which was ok apart from the bacon which was very dried out, and tough to eat. We chose this hotel as it was close to family and it was convenient, and we would use it again.

I have been staying here regularly over the past 5 months and the breakfast has steadily dropped in its quality. At £16 a head I expect bells and whistles, but on this trip no fruit, yoghurts, limited meats and cheese along with pastries.

Stayed one night on a business trip, room was a good size, bed only had two very firm pillows so not the best nights sleep and I was right by a very noisy corridor door that woke me up several times. I couldn’t use the spa facilities as these closed at 8pm which is rather early for midweek. The food in the bar was great and the staff were very friendly

Its a bit worn around the edges, but price, ease of free parking and if you are going to the races, a great location. Downside is the breakfast is way too expencive for a buffet and the resturant remains closed for dinner. The bar serves food but its only a step up from pub grub. The fish & Chips is worth a mention for both its size and quality. Overall a keeper :)

Very conveniently located for the conference / event I was attending at the venue next door. Competitive room rate - but everything 'extra' or a supplement: the breakfast was +50% the cost of the room ('searching listing optimisation?'; the pool / health club more expensive than my local council one. Next time I'll go to the conveniently located MacDonalds 2 minutes walk away. Drinks in the bar were decently priced

We stayed in a suite - very reasonably priced, spacious and well equipped with 2 TVs. Room details said that the bed was King sized - it seemed quite a bit smaller than that, but definitely bigger than a usual double. Chats bar had a good choice of bar meals and snacks. The main restaurant was only opened for breakfast, but there was plenty of choice in surrounding areas like Blyth and Newcastle. Travel around the locality and beyond was good. There was a golf course next door, and getting to Newcastle was easy on the bus when we didn’t want to use the car. Staff were great, always helpful and cheerful, especially the reception and housekeeping teams.

Booked as a birthday gift for my mum. Hotel is close to racecourse. Stayed here 8 years ago but it now needs a revamp desperately! Rooms are clean. Only difference between a standard double and executive double is a robe and a bottle of water! Would be helpful if guests were advised on check in or in the many emails received before the stay that you have to request to get your room cleaned and towels changed. We came back from racing to unserviced rooms and dirty towels, to be told house keeping needs to be requested - you only know this if you scan QR code in room and hang a non existent tag outside the door! Housekeeping go home at 2.30. Brought towels and left dirty ones. Very disappointed not worth the £550 for 2 nights. Will not be returning in future. Never heard requesting room to be cleaned in any other hotels that I have ever stayed in. You cannot keep blaming Covid for poor service!!
