The GEM Museum Suites is perfectly located for our visit with our son. Though not in downtown shopping area of Evanston it is not far. Parking, on the side of building, was very convenient but comes with a cost of $20 p/d. The decor is very impressive and recently renovated. It is not a huge hotel, which makes it feel "homey." During our 6 days stay we met only one other group of 3 guest and they were checking out. (We were told the next week would be very busy.) The suite is equipped with all we needed: kitchenette, fridge, dishwasher, etc., all very condensed. The separate bedroom with two queen size beds is separate from the sitting area/kitchenette area, just down a short hall, just inside the entry door. The ONLY negatives are the new flooring is laminate "snaps, crackles and pops" in certain areas because of poor adhesion and the instructions for using the TV streaming (there are 2 TVs) in the suite and the coffee to water ratio for the Mr. Coffee maker are very lacking.

Wonderful property with comfortable bed and pillows, freshly made breakfast and friendly staff. 2 things which could be corrected. The rooms were clean but the carpeting in the hallways were very dirty and the flooring in the elevator was very dirty and missing tiles which detracted from the overall impression. Also, blackout curtains are desperately needed. Otherwise, common areas in particular were beautiful and parking was easy!

The room was immaculate– the space had many amenities and was perfect for my working 'vacation'. I loved getting back to my hotel room after a long day of meetings. It was very relaxing. I enjoyed the fitness room and also the hot breakfasts. I noticed that there was a salon on site, but I didn't take advantage of that. It's name says it all--it's a 'gem.'

Someone in the elevator said that this just newly opened, and his party had to change rooms a few times due to things not working. There are no usable stairs except in the event of an emergency, and only access to the top and bottom floors. The elevator was slow, so I opted for the stairs and set off an alarm. It should be more clearly marked with do not use unless there is an emergency. I don’t know what floors 2-5 would do if there was an emergency since I didn’t see access from the stairwell. The front desk was confused as to how to access a third party reservation, and the girl couldn’t program two keys for the room. Also, we were told breakfast was available across the street at the museum, but when we walked across the street, the doors were open but we saw nothing. We ended up going to a very good local coffee shop. Also, our bed was shoved against a wall, so getting out at night to go to the bathroom was very difficult. Evanston is lovely, so hopefully they’ll get the kinks out. We had a wedding to attend across the street.

The staff was exceptional, willing to assist in any way and very friendly. All areas, including the room, were kept clean. The lobby and garden were truly unique. I even managed to take pictures of a bunny. The breakfast fruit was very fresh and delicious. We would consider staying again. The only trouble we had was clearly marked parking signs and spot availability.

The breakfast was amazing, great Tiffany stain glass to look at while eating. Parking was so easy, and staff were very friendly. Room was clean, a little small but worked great for what we need it for, loved the full kitchen. Will return every time we are in town.

Brand new place just opened in May. The staff here is so wonderful and I am sure that in time the few hiccups I encountered will be eliminated, especially the parking. Maybe it was just signage.

The place is comfortable although the rooms are small. Suggestions are: Open the restaurant at 7:30 am instead of 8:00 am. All the pillows were way too thick and they had no other pillows available. The blankets were too light and the gym didn't have enough equipment in it.

Liked the overall ambience. Art is exceptional. Combo washer/dryer in room is nice touch.. Room furniture seems cheap and is very bland. Didn’t like musty smell in hallways and particularly on elevators. . Bathroom door hit edge of bed when opened.

Lovely! The suite was large with separate bedroom, and living room/kitchen. It had a washing machine in the bathroom and a dishwasher in the kitchen. Very new. Very clean. Great location. Very friendly staff.

Excellent accommodations and very clean. I think the breakfast could have higher quality and healthier options with fresher fruit and vegetables although what is offered is tasty for sure. Staff is mostly very nice and helpful.

Staff was friendly. Breakfast was pretty good (options included various hot options, as well as continental). Waiter was very nice. Room was comfortable and very stylish. However, window sill looked like it hasn't been cleaned in a while.

We had an amazing stay. The hotel is very clean and we loved the sitdown breakfast that was included. It was nice having a bedroom with a door to keep things quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

The staff was lovely. Housekeeping excellent and very clean. The lobby decor is clean but run down, like visiting tidy grandparents. It could easily be modernized but it’s a taste choice that feels budget conscious. It isn’t a luxurious experience but it is nice. Some renovation choices hard to understand- room layout e.g. Location suited me perfectly.

The location was very convenient, and the room was clean. The only challenge was controlling the room temperature, since there was only a fan without a timer or thermostat. On the positive side, the waitress at breakfast was super friendly and made the experience really pleasant.

We had an exceptional stay at GEM Museum Suites. It has a fantastic artsy niche style. Everything appears brand new & are stylish. The kitchen comes with pots pans, cups, coffee maker, dishwashing soap, washer/dryer combo, etc. I didn't see any laundry detergent in the room but I did see the hotel room cleaners had single packages on the cart, seems to be offered if needed. My mom who has very high standards raves about the hotel & room. I gave all 5 stars except the "comfort" category I reduced to 4 stars only because the bedspreads are waffled sheets. If GEM makes the beds with blankets and puts extras, as well as, sofa bed sheets in the closet it is a perfect stay! Their breakfast is outstanding too! The ambience is fantastic, the servers are kind & helpful. The breakfast menu has many options.

The kitchen comes with pots pans, cups, coffee maker, dishwashing soap, washer/dryer combo, etc. I didn't see any laundry detergent in the room but I did see the hotel room cleaners had single packages on the cart, seems to be offered if needed. My mom who has very high standards raves about the hotel & room. I gave all 5 stars except the "comfort" category I reduced to 4 stars only because the bedspreads are waffled sheets. It looks like a comforter but it is not. So only 2 sheets are on the bed. For late October even with the heater on we were cold at night. They do have blankets and we got some once asked. For some reason they don't leave them in the room. All other hotels I stay in (which is often around the world) always have a blanket/comforter on the bed plus an extra blanket in the closet. The location was very convenient to northwestern university. The breakfast was very nice. But the room/suite was lacking. The bathroom was located off of one of the bedrooms so we all had to walk thru the bedroom to use it. The other bedroom should at least have a mirror so the other occupants can get ready outside of the bathroom. The overnight staff was very disappointing. We attended a theater production and came in after midnight. Our room key did not work to open the main door. The front desk staffed 24/7 did not answer our phone calls or the doorbell for 10-15 minutes. I had to walk around the outside of the building and look into the office where the front desk person was sitting there. Then she let us in.

We arrived late at night on opening weekend for a lucid festival we were attending, Becca was there to greet us and took very GREAT care of us. She let us know about all the places around that were open late and showed us the breakfast menu so we could pre plan for the next morning. She was very accommodating and made sure to ask us how we were doing or if we needed anything every time she saw us! The hotel room itself was amazing. It included pans so that we were able to cook food and save money on eating out, plus a washer/dryer which made it feel like a home.The view we had was very beautiful as well. Everything was a 100/10 and i will definitely only be staying here when im visiting Illinois!

Excellent accommodations and very clean. I think the breakfast could have higher quality and healthier options with fresher fruit and vegetables although what is offered is tasty for sure. Staff is mostly very nice and helpful.

We got stranded at OHare late at night with no hotels really available. You guys were a blessing. It was so wonderful to be greeted so warmly and settled in for a needed one night stay. Thank you! We would definitely recommend you all for anyone in the future!

Someone in the elevator said that this just newly opened, and his party had to change rooms a few times due to things not working. There are no usable stairs except in the event of an emergency, and only access to the top and bottom floors. The elevator was slow, so I opted for the stairs and set off an alarm. It should be more clearly marked with do not use unless there is an emergency. I don’t know what floors 2-5 would do if there was an emergency since I didn’t see access from the stairwell. The front desk was confused as to how to access a third party reservation, and the girl couldn’t program two keys for the room. Also, we were told breakfast was available across the street at the museum, but when we walked across the street, the doors were open but we saw nothing. We ended up going to a very good local coffee shop. Also, our bed was shoved against a wall, so getting out at night to go to the bathroom was very difficult. Evanston is lovely, so hopefully they’ll get the kinks out. We had a wedding to attend across the street.

The staff was exceptional, willing to assist in any way and very friendly. All areas, including the room, were kept clean. The lobby and garden were truly unique. I even managed to take pictures of a bunny. The breakfast fruit was very fresh and delicious. We would consider staying again. The only trouble we had was clearly marked parking signs and spot availability.

We had an exceptional stay at GEM Museum Suites. It has a fantastic artsy niche style. Everything appears brand new & are stylish. The GEM Museum Suites is perfectly located for our visit with our son. Though not in downtown shopping area of Evanston it is not far. Parking, on the side of building, was very convenient but comes with a cost of $20 p/d. The decor is very impressive and recently renovated. It is not a huge hotel, which makes it feel "homey." During our 6 days stay we met only one other group of 3 guest and they were checking out. (We were told the next week would be very busy.) The suite is equipped with all we needed: kitchenette, fridge, dishwasher, etc., all very condensed. The separate bedroom with two queen size beds is separate from the sitting area/kitchenette area, just down a short hall, just inside the entry door. The ONLY negatives are the new flooring is laminate "snaps, crackles and pops" in certain areas because of poor adhesion and the instructions for using the TV streaming (there are 2 TVs) in the suite and the coffee to water ratio for the Mr. Coffee maker are very lacking.

The location was very convenient, and the room was clean. The only challenge was controlling the room temperature, since there was only a fan without a timer or thermostat. On the positive side, the waitress at breakfast was super friendly and made the experience really pleasant.

This is a lovely spot. It was quiet, basically a studio apartment with a washing machine. And an easy walk to a coffee shop, bakery, 7-11. The signs inside said they will soon have a Mediterranean restaurant as well.

I was surprise of this hotel in deep heart of Evanston. Quiet, convenient, near Evanston center and mostly warm and family hospitality. This hotel FAR EXCEEDED my expectations. I selected this hotel for a girls shopping weekend and everyone was absolutely amazed at what a wonderful selection I had made. It was sparkly clean, comfortable, beautiful windows and the included breakfast was the biggest treat. Just hit reserve and enjoy a fabulous urban environment getaway with easy parking and complete safety.

The breakfast was amazing, great Tiffany stain glass to look at while eating. Parking was so easy, and staff were very friendly. Room was clean, a little small but worked great for what we need it for, loved the full kitchen. Will return every time we are in town.

We had an amazing stay. The hotel is very clean and we loved the sitdown breakfast that was included. It was nice having a bedroom with a door to keep things quiet. I would definitely stay here again.

Enjoyed a three night stay while we moved our daughter into Roger’s Park—here are thoughts: Pros: Great to see the owners repurpose an elder care home into a hotel and they did a wonderful job. Parking was ample and free, which was a welcome plus considering charges at the other hotels. Property was meticulously maintained, with a back garden area that made you forget you were in a city area. Entire staff was extremely friendly and attentive to any needs. Restaurants were close, some within walking distance so you didn’t have to move car once checked in. Rooms, although quirky (bathroom door hits bed about 1/4 opened) were SUPER comfortable. The kitchen/living area was one of the best we have stayed at as it was well appointed with induction stove, apartment size fridge, washer/dryer and was perfect for two if you’re staying short or long term. Cons (if you even want to call them that!): Bedroom area was a little tight, but you can understand why if you think about what the suites were used for previously but I think they utilized the existing space extremely well—I’d rather be a bit tight for a king bed since room is only used for sleeping!! Shower—our biggest gripe—-you have a choice (at least in the unit we were in)—hot water, no pressure or cold water, great pressure—we found no in between but managed. Overall, The Gem, in our opinion is just that and will be our go to hotel for all of our future visits when we are visiting our daughter. We look forward to it!!
Enjoyed a three night stay while we moved our daughter into Roger’s Park—here are thoughts: Pros: Great to see the owners repurpose an elder care home into a hotel and they did a wonderful job. Parking was ample and free, which was a welcome plus considering charges at the other hotels.
