The hotel was in the remodeling state, rooms too small, three floors up could hear outside noise, even people talking. Wouldn't give a wake up call, had to go out and buy a alarm clock. Didn't like you had to put down a room damage deposit, nothing was mention this in your as. The TV didn't work. The only good thing was very close to the Bus station. Would I recommend this hotel to someone, NO.

Should've listened to the other reviews. Upon check in, we were told that we needed to check out a day early, as they were shutting due to maintenance. All I received was a phone call, which was missed as I was flying in. $150 deposit taken on arrival (as expected), zero notice as to when it would be released, along with the partial refund that was given to to having to check out early. We then had to book a new hotel with limited notice. The room itself was tiny, literally shoe box size. It was noisy around the clock. Buffet breakfast for $12 a person wasn't too bad, but more options would be nice. Still also waiting to be charge for it too. Hotel is completely hopeless. Avoid where possible.

Great location, used offsite parking within 700 meters, had to park a campervan $10.00/day (weekend rates). Walking distance to water front and Queen Victoria Market plus good area for eating options.

Would never recommend. There was used coffee pods in the machine, pools of water in the fridge, the room stunk. Most importantly, our hotel room door wouldn’t close?!!! We were comfortable leaving our valuables unattended in an open room or sleeping there. We were there for 30 mins and checked out. Extremely disappponted in the service we experienced, the receptionist came to check the room and denied the smell first of all, and only apologised for the door being broken. We are still waiting for them to get back to us about a refund. Not happy at all.

Second time I stayed in 12 months. This stay I noticed the toilet was leaking/running noisily from instant I walked in. Every time going to tell Reception there was no one there. General upkeep of maintainence would go a long way.

Really disappointed with our stay at Hotel Sophia, considering it wasn’t super cheap. Very dated and hallway floors creaked very loudly. Room was TINY! Not an exaggeration. Two of us found it hard to move around the room as it was only space for one person in any space at one time. The bed was supposed to be a king, however, was much smaller. The shower was a trickle of water and the basin tap sprayed in different directions when turned on. Room had coffee pod machine with coffee pods, other instant tea and coffee. Fridge with milk provided. Linen and towels were fresh and clean. Bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, hand cream. No hair dryer (maybe be important to know for some). Not the most convenient location as it wasn’t on a tram line so had to walk in the rain with our luggage.

Awesome hotel centrally located in Melbourne Friendly welcoming staff and very helpful with great service Lovely clean rooms with comfy beds Clean bathroom even has a grest coffee machine in tje room with coffee and tea making facilities and bar fridge Highly recommended will stay at Sofia Hotel again when i visit Melbourne A must stay

Affordable and good location for walking distance to shops, tram, train and bus. Very cozy room and not well thought out design of bathroom as very tight. Needs a bit of love and quite noisy outside. No great natural light you’d think it was 7pm at all times. Would I stay again? No. Did it serve as a cheap, convenient stay at the time? Yes. If you’re considering skimping on accomodation but like the finer things, definitely pay that bit extra for nicer place. Bed was really comfy and good size though!

The hotel soundproofing is terrible. Guest talking outside along the corridor can he heard clearly. Other than the soundproofing, every else is great. Near Southern cross street terminal. Can go anywhere easily.

Room much smaller than advertised with huge bed and not much room for anything else. Walls are paper thin so if you get noisy neighbours or street traffic it won't be good. But a clean and functional family run hotel where you are left alone. Water pressure and temperature in old shower was surprisingly good.

Room i had was very small. I was by myself but if i had someone else it would of been squashy as there was no where to put cases. Reciption service was pooŕ. On arrival i got there around 1.30 and had to ring a bell twice, than told to wait in waiting area til 2pm..other accommodation places can usally check in before 2pm..than just on 2pm other customers come in off street and were served first, me and 3 other people waiting in lounge room got served later. Than on departure no one was at front desk, me and another lady both waiting and ringing bell for service. I was going to buy breakfast at the hotel, but gave up waiting and left so did the other lady..that was around 8am.

The room size, bed and shower were great. However the other guests were so incredibly loud we couldn’t sleep. I let the woman on reception know and her response was “oh yeah that happens a lot”. Disappointing. I wouldn’t booked here again if it wasn’t for the noise.

The receptionist is very unprofessional. I believe they sleep upstairs most of the day. They don't answer the phone when you call and take 5-10 mins to come down to reception to meet you when you check in/out. 14 April 2024 stay won't be coming back.

Hotel cancelled our booking the day of our arrival We were left in Melbourne with no where to stay and had a lot of trouble booking a new hotel. Very impressed DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL

The manager of the property sent a message via Wotif, stating that because my spouse and I kept our push bikes in the room with us we have breached terms of their hospitality. I assume this is so they can keep the security deposit. The circumstances of our bikes being in the room is that we had already checked in the room and had the bikes with us when the receptionist knocked on the door and informed us no bikes allowed, I explained these bikes were over $10000 and for security it would be appreciated- the receptionist informed us she would get back to us. When I later saw the receptionist she give us the thumbs up, as if to say all is ok! Having reviewed other posts it is apparent the manager will make attempts to trap visitors to ensure security deposits are not returned or delayed. I have never had cause to make a negative remark regarding an accommodation facility until now - Please beware staying here. I do ask Wotif to monitor if my deposit is returned- if not maybe step in.

Great accomodation if you are just looking for a bed for the night in an ideal location to town! Tried to check in early, but couldn’t until 2pm which was fine. Stuff were a bit flustered and weren’t all that welcoming. However, good stay overall

When at the front desk, I was asked to pay deposit above the cost of the room. Another guest mentioned that other guests had to come back to try and get their deposits back. They wouldn't let me use my room I paid for in advance even though they had my card without paying excessive deposit. When I looked at Facebook, it appears that this issue of not refunding deposits in a habit with the hotel. I was unable to get through on the phone on either number to have my room charge refunded as I refused to stay there and pay an excessive deposit and they wrote in writing that they would refund the amount. 1 week later and there is still no refund.

I was going to buy breakfast at the hotel, but gave up waiting and left so did the other lady..that was around 8am.

Room i had was very small. I was by myself but if i had someone else it would of been squashy as there was no where to put cases. Reciption service was pooŕ. On arrival i got there around 1.30 and had to ring a bell twice, than told to wait in waiting area til 2pm..other accommodation places can usally check in before 2pm..than just on 2pm other customers come in off street and were served first, me and 3 other people waiting in lounge room got served later. Than on departure no one was at front desk, me and another lady both waiting and ringing bell for service. Should've listened to the other reviews. Upon check in, we were told that we needed to check out a day early, as they were shutting due to maintenance. All I received was a phone call, which was missed as I was flying in. $150 deposit taken on arrival (as expected), zero notice as to when it would be released, along with the partial refund that was given to to having to check out early. We then had to book a new hotel with limited notice. The room itself was tiny, literally shoe box size. It was noisy around the clock. Buffet breakfast for $12 a person wasn't too bad, but more options would be nice. Still also waiting to be charge for it too. Hotel is completely hopeless. Avoid where possible.

6 days after stay still haven't recieved security deposit back, phoned a couple times and they blame the bank. Reading other reviews they are renowed for doing this. Will never stay here again and advise you avoid at all costs

Perfect location close to Southern Station access to free Trams and cheap eats nearby in the Spencer Outlet plus great selection within 3 blocks being near Korea town. Staff have a real casual feel which makes it very comfortable.

Awesome hotel centrally located in Melbourne Friendly welcoming staff and very helpful with great service Lovely clean rooms with comfy beds Clean bathroom even has a grest coffee machine in tje room with coffee and tea making facilities and bar fridge Highly recommended will stay at Sofia Hotel again when i visit Melbourne A must stay

Great location, used offsite parking within 700 meters, had to park a campervan $10.00/day (weekend rates). Walking distance to water front and Queen Victoria Market plus good area for eating options.

Very nice hotel. Lots of amenities- safe in the room, iron, tea/coffee with fresh milk. Breakfast was very good and can be added for a small cost. Very reasonably priced hotel in the CBD 20 minutes form the airport

The lady at check in was brilliant. Super friendly and incredibly efficient. She handled everything so quickly! The room is nice and they’ve made every effort to make it comfortable. The floors and walls are paper thin so you hear every movement and sound around you. But the bed is very comfy, the shower is good and the staff are friendly. The location is great too - a short walk from Southern Cross Station.

I recently stayed at this hotel for three nights and it was another terrible experience. From the moment I arrived, the front desk seemed annoyed that I was there. Having cancelled a reservation in February, and despite calling 12 times and sending numerous emails, they still haven’t processed my refund. I spoke with a girl at the front desk about my refund, and she insisted that I would need to come back the following morning and speak to the manager. I returned the next morning and spoke with the manager regarding my refund, but he continues to put his head in the sand and says he doesn’t know how to do refunds (which has been his go to line when I have called about it). He said that I would have to speak to the girl on the afternoon shift. I stated that I spoke with her and she said to talk to you. Then he simply turned his back and walked out to the back office, and closed the door behind him. My reservation was cancelled well in advance to be entitled to the refund, as per their t&c’s, but still no refund even though I cancelled the previous reservation well over 6 months ago now. So frustrated!!!
