Pluses: The staff: Christine at the front desk was wonderful. She helped with a room issue (the blackout curtains would not close) and immediately sent a professional young handyman (I can't remember his name) to fix it. Without her consideration, we would have been awakened at 6 AM each morning by the sun. She also issued a small credit towards parking without us even asking for it. She understands customer service. We would stay at the hotel again based on this alone. The Jacuzzi: Heated well The free breakfast: Good number of hot and cold choices Minuses: The wall unit AC: So loud it could wake the dead! The pool: Far too cold for actual swimming. We were at the hotel for two hot days and only saw 2 children in it. Another guest said she was told the pool was heated to 81 degrees, but there was simply no way that was the case. The pool was probably the biggest disappointment of our stay as we always book hotels based on having both a swimmable pool and a jacuzzi once we select a location. *Overall, this was a pleasant stay due to the staff and the excellent location. There were beaches in walking distance, and we were just a few blocks from the Ocean Institute, where we got information on the tide levels for the day and then did the beach trek to Pirate's Cove.

This hotel is in a great location if you like to walk. There are places to walk along the marina area, to Doheny State Park, Dana Cliff's area and to local restaurants. The hotel charged $15 per night parking which as worth it since there are jo other options. The hotel Is older but the standard king I had was roomy and had a lot of areas to store things. The walls are thin so you can hear neighbors. The included breakfast was good. The hotelmis older and set for demolition sometime next year. The staff was accommodating and will stay again if the orice is right

I’ve stayed here a few times. The latest was another great stay. I got an early check in and upgraded to Harbor view. The room was clean and comfortable. The property has a great hot jacuzzi with strong jets. The pool is clean and 8 feet deep at one end.. continental breakfast also.

It’s my understanding that this hotel is scheduled to be torn down so it looks like they’re doing the bare minimum to keep it up. However, you just can’t beat the location in the harbor and for that reason I would stay here again. Just be prepared to have to ask for towels at the hotel pool, which is actually quite nice and know that it’s pretty worn.

Hotel itself- old, outdated. Carpet torn/stained in rooms and halls. Smelled clean and did not turn out feet black but needs replacing. Pool- not heated, hot tub- not hot enough. Breakfast- only edible thing is waffles. Coffee terrible. They are going to tear down and rebuild so they aren’t doing improvements. The only nice thing was location to catch ferry to Catalina. Also- no conditioner provided. Staff very nice. They deserve to have a nicer place to work at. Bathroom in room only has pedestal sink so little to no room to put out toiletries/ flat iron. Also had to put my trash outside for them to pick up. There was mildew and missing silicone in bathroom and our sink didn’t drain. There was thick layer of dust on dryer on wall and my sheets were clean but discolored.

The staff were very friendly but the hotel is very much extremely dirty. Bed sheets had makeup stains, loud AC unit that makes it difficult to sleep at night. And worst thing there was hair on the shower walls. This hotels really needs a makeover and new carpets as well

I enjoy my time in Dana Point it seems as the years pass by the hotel needs some TLC and some minor detail prices are not cheap there what’s wrong with expecting the place to show some pride! The tub needs to be repainted and renovated, the paint on the doors are peeling, one of the linens closets needs knobs the fans they have in the rooms were all dirty full of dust and with lint! Two blinds were on the floor broken, no one came to my room for cleaning and they have a sign for tipping the house keeper! That didn’t make any sense to me. This place used to be really nice. I keep coming back because it’s so convenient on the waterfront but they’re losing their spark. It almost reminds me like if I’m spending the night at Motel that makes me sad. My door keys kept loosing the magnet to open the door this was frustrating and the door kept getting stuck! This time around I was so disappointed!😔

Room was absolutely disgusting. The ceiling was caving in there was mold growing on the ceiling tons of water damage. The back door didn’t lock it smelled like mildew extremely disappointed, especially for Dana point and the amount I paid.

another GREAT vacay to this property! Staff and housekeeping is exceptionally efficient, helpful and friendly. The property is slightly dated fyi but *very clean, lots of good parking. nice rooms, comfy beds and fridge. Steps away from the marina and baby beach. A great place to relax!

Staff is incredible but that’s where the good stuff ends. Filthy rooms. Caked on dust on the cords and drapes. I get that this property will be torn down soon but either stop renting rooms or clean them. This property looks like a crack den.

Location is good but the hotel is old & needs remodeling. Rooms are not clean &,feel dirty, Room smelt of mildew. Bathroom ventilation is appalling. HVAC is decades oldBreakfast Is included but awful. Dining room area is like a bad canteen. Will not stay at again nor recommend to anyone.

This place is a total dump. First the clerk had been smoking weed right before we arrived. I almost had a contact high from the smell. The rooms is filthy. Stains on curtains floors walls. We asked to switch rooms which they did. Wasn’t much better. It is a very old property with nothing upgraded. Faucets from 1970s. Just so smelly. Don’t stay here. Personally I want a refund.

The only thing I can say that could have been better. What we paid for the room (honeymoon suite ) The small couch the cushion was ripped and stuffing falling out. Plus stains all over the rug. Plus the couch was dirty .

I've stayed here a couple of times. This room was the worst one (223) No soap, 1/4 roll of toilet paper only, dingy linins, very noisy "air conditioner". Overall a shabby impression. They did have a very nice breakfast though.

Very large room. Small increase in price for the Marina view was definitely a good choice. Comfortable bed. Furniture was very old and the bathroom fan really needed to be dusted. However, the rest of the room was clean. Price was very reasonable for the location.

the property is in a great location. the staff is kind and available. the hotel is clean. I think the biggest Draw back is that it is an old outdated property and the quality of the comforts are low- bad shower head with low pressure, poor quality products, towels, linens, hard/crinkly mattress, etc. If they could at least update these aspects even in an older building, especially for the price, it would really enhance the experience.

Great position across the road from harbour where quite a few restaurants were located. Hotel was old but very clean and well maintained. Receptionist was very friendly and helpful. All in all a great stay.

Staff was horrible. Using a walker, hauled stuff to the far away room (after asking for one close in). Keyb didn’t work; called front desk and was told “we don’t provide that level of service” and refused to bring key. The maintenance staff walked by, and went to get the key. He was very friendly.

I accidentally booked the wrong dates as the trip was last minute and due to an emergency. When I realized I called the hotel to change the date. They said they could not change the dates and could not give me a refund- hotels.com had to. I called hotels.com and they said the hotel had to approve the refund. So I ended up having to pay for 2 nights at a hotel I never even went to. I will never use hotels.com to book and Dana point hotel staff was rude and dishonest and not somewhere I would ever recommend based on the service.

Keep in mind, this is a very dated hotel but very clean. Breakfast was great. Hot eggs/meat and everything you would find in a normal American breakfast. Location was our choice in choosing this hotel. Right on the harbor, walking distance to restaurants, shopping and attractions. Will definitely return.

Very nice hotel for the location on the marina. No protein items for breakfast, no eggs or meat for gluten free allergies. Also, no microwave in the room to reheat food.

We had a good stay overall. The sliding door to patio was broken and we could not sleep with open door to get fresh air. The curtains were also hanging bu a thread...... Was disappointed with the breakfast. Have stayed there before several times and had graleat breakfast with eggs and some kind of protein....... thus time around the only option was waffles, bagels, bread.......

the location was excellent, but the hotel is pretty run down with stains in the carpet and knicks on the furniture. the morning breakfast was a joke unless you like waffles. the hotel is in some serious need of updating

Hotel itself- old, outdated. Carpet torn/stained in rooms and halls. Smelled clean and did not turn out feet black but needs replacing. Pool- not heated, hot tub- not hot enough. Breakfast- only edible thing is waffles. Coffee terrible. They are going to tear down and rebuild so they aren’t doing improvements. The only nice thing was location to catch ferry to Catalina. Also- no conditioner provided. Staff very nice. They deserve to have a nicer place to work at. Bathroom in room only has pedestal sink so little to no room to put out toiletries/ flat iron. Also had to put my trash outside for them to pick up. There was mildew and missing silicone in bathroom and our sink didn’t drain. There was thick layer of dust on dryer on wall and my sheets were clean but discolored.

The front desk was very helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was great. We had a spacious marina view room that was nice. Hotel is old and scheduled to be replaced so it’s understandable certain repairs haven’t been done.

The rooms are worn out. The bathroom faucets are rusted from oxidation. This is not good especially while washing your face in the sink. The bath tub showed mold. 😬 The carpet on the hallway showed wetness from the ceiling dripping water. The breakfast buffet area was ok. There was only one working. This gentleman did amazaing for covering all of our needs. The waffle maker got stuck, he fixed it, he added eggs to the pan, added syrup, strawberries, changed the juice boxes and much more on his own. The hotel needs more employees in this area. I saw a mouse running outside the pool area.

Amir checked us in and he was very friendly and professional. The hotel is run down but the room was very clean. The air condition worked great but was noisy. Breakfast was excellent. For the price, it was overall good.
