Villa 1565 - Saint Augustine

We stayed at Villa 1565 and were pretty disappointed. The place looks like a renovated motel with the online pictures from website, but the updates don’t hide the problems. The bed was extremely uncomfortable, and while the room appeared clean at first glance, it was actually quite dirty once you looked a little closer. The pool area was run-down, with broken sun chairs that made it uninviting to use. On top of that, the trolley tour runs right through the motel’s parking lot every 30 minutes, which makes it hard to relax. The only real plus was the free breakfast, which was just average but at least convenient.

Motel (not hotel) was ok but fell short of expectations. Not sure how this property got rated a 3 star property. It’s a motel set up—all one floor, drive up to your door. Pictures really didn’t reperesent. Pool super small and separated from parking lot by chain link fence. Rooms ok but pretty clinical. Breakfast was mid. If it was a 1.5 star and priced as such, I’d stay again—it was fine, just didn’t meet the standard that was advertised.

I like that they had breakfast every morning and it wasn’t “continental”, but lots of choices. The pool was nice and clean and I enjoyed it every day.

This hotel is definitely convenient if you are taking the Trolley as it is along their route and is one of the stops on the map. My only complaint is the peacocks next door at the fountain of youth can be fairly loud at night and early morning. Also we did not use the pool since there were no lounge chairs to sunbathe on which was disappointing. The free buffet breakfast each morning was nice!

Location was great for all historic sites. Clean, updated room. Nice and extremely helpful staff. Met owner and son and they went out of their way to ensure our stay was perfect. Definitely check out Magnolia Street behind the hotel and enjoy the peacocks. Definitely would recommend and will be staying again. Pool was maintained and warm.

Rooms were clean, associates nice, breakfast acceptable. The pictures online were very outdated, no loungers by the pool, courtyard had old broken chairs and scattered around. Very dated, BUT the trolly does stop right at the hotel so that is a huge plus if you don’t want to drive!

Staff was friendly. Location was very convenient to area attractions. Room was clean and comfortable. The grounds could use a cleaning and more outdoor seating.

It was beautiful, but the parking lot was in need of some repairs.

The check in was easy and room was ready ahead of time for a slightly early check in which was nice since we got to town earlier than we expected. The room was clean and smelled clean without the overpowering bleach smell you sometimes run into in hotel rooms. The property itself looks very old, but the rooms are updated inside. The location was excellent if you appreciate the historic district vs being beachside, and the trolley tour stops right in the parking lot since the 600 year old tree is on the property. Magnolia Ave is right behind the property. The pool was being tended to (being cleaned with a net) and looked clean, however, when we got out, we could see our foot prints from the algae in the bottom of the pool. For the price I paid, this was a great place to stay.

Property is old. Parking lot is an asphalt mess. Looks ugly. Highlight, The Senator, a 600 year old tree. Also located within walking distance to many events.

The linens appeared unwashed and stained, with visible dirt and debris. Ants had infested the sink and drain area. Additionally, there was a noticeable lack of water pressure in the shower, making it difficult to rinse off or wash completely.

I arrived at this hotel a bit prejudiced because of some negative reviews, likely written by people who either didn’t want to pay for what they were getting or simply couldn’t appreciate the place. I have to admit I was wrong — and I apologize for my initial impression. The staff was absolutely wonderful: kind, helpful, and genuinely courteous. The rooms may be a little dated, but they were spotless. I was even given extra towels without having to ask twice. As for the breakfast, anyone claiming it wasn’t good must have had other issues, because it was excellent — fresh and well-organized, with eggs, sausages, yogurt, fresh bread, and more. The location is also perfect: the old town is only about a 15-minute walk away, and the pool was clean and well-maintained. This isn’t a 5-star luxury hotel, but I would happily return for the kindness of the staff, the welcoming atmosphere, and the overall value. Thank you!

Was not expecting to wear socks on my feet that came out black from dirty floors not mopped. Beds were hard & pillows to firm. The ice machine was discussing even though it was out doors

The room was dirty and it smelled so bad of mildew that my asthma was flaring within 10 minutes of being in the room. We left and went to the Hilton DoubleTree down the road.

The young Jamaican man working the 11-7 shift was very sweet and understanding. However the motel was nothing like advertised. We checked in late, room was moldy, bed cover stained. 2nd room seemed better, but found by bugs crawling on both beds and baby wasp-like by bug on wall above the bed. We checked out! I want a rental refund!

We were given a room, pullled back the sheets to find hair and filth as if the sheets had not been washed, the floors were dirty and the room smelled of mildew, we called and asked were given a second room and walked In same thing, filthy floors, shower had grime on the walls and floors, we pulled back the sheets and found a false eyelash strip stuck to the blankets. Needless to say I highly DO NOT recommend and you couldn’t pay me to stay here again. Shame to call it a hotel, it’s a very low quality motel.

This place was really dirty The mirrors have boogers on them, the toilet have brown lines dripping off the bowl, they look clean inside but outside it was disgusting. It was a lot of more growing between the tiles. The floors were sticky We stay one night. I will never stay here again.

RUN AWAY!! MOLD!! DO NOT STAY HERE REGARDLESS OF THE PICS OF THE ROOMS. UNSAFE!! WE WASTED OUR MONEY, AND LEFT EARLY WITHOUT REIMBURSEMENT FROM STAFF. MOLD IN ROOM. FLOORS WERE FILTHY. PICS TO PROVE IT.

It was pretty gross had to use half a bottle of method cleaner on the room and it turned the 3 rags I was using dark black yellow by the time I finished using them, the shower was covered in hair and shower head and second head were so Rusty and mildewy

The staff was super friendly, and the property is on the trolley route. The rooms had been updated but the walls were thin, and there was a lot of rust( which does come with the sea air). Overall for an overnight trip to St. Augustine it was okay.

The hotel was nice and clean, there was a small roach in the bathtub at night. But stuff will happen. The bed was super firm and woke up with some back pain. The staff was so good and the location is fabulous. Would stay here again.

I was in one of the king size bed rooms in the front of the property. I was worried I’d hear traffic from the street or the trolley that goes through the property. I didn’t hear anything! The breakfast is great, the location worked well, the interior of the room including bathroom is modern and the staff was helpful. I look forward to staying here again.

Paper walls people next to us made a ton of noise. It was very excruciating. Not the hotel‘s fault.

Rooms were clean, beds were okay, and ac didn't get super cold. Very modern inside the room and nice bathroom. For the price I was satisfied. Would stay here again for a night or two

Tour buses during the day and peacocks at all times of the night make it for a very loud hotel. The interior rooms has been renovated, but the outside of the hotel is disgusting and when you look, there is rust and everything inside the room as well.

It was close enough to walk to everything or take the trolley, which was nice. The room had no where to put your things and it was very noisy. The bed was uncomfortable and everything smelled musty.

I was a little nervous about the hotel because the outside looked weather beaten and old. Put inside the apartment things looked nice and well kept. Service was great from checking in to having a maintenance person check our TV. We slept fine and attended a fair breakfast before getting back on the road.

We always love staying here, the staff is so sweet and it’s perfect walk to downtown.

There was access door between rooms, noisy, cigarette butts by steps & no hairdryer, the Ladies at the front desk were nice and helpful

Rude. Charged $100 to cc and did not credit account for a week. They hold deposits for a week in interest bearing accounts while they keep your money from you for their benefit.. This is what cheap motels do. This place has paper thin walls. Had to call the cops due to fighting in next room at 4am. The breakfast is a joke! Turkey sausage and powdered eggs..Just go somewhere decent and be happy. Get tired of paying market rate for rude checkin. Also refused to allow an early checkin at 2pm when it was obvious half the rooms had been cleaned. I was as told to sit and await with my elderly mother when the clerk could have easily checked me in. Yes, I did check directly with housekeeping. She was extremely rude and lazy. Seemed to enjoy the power of inconvenience over my elderly mom. How awful when a business could easily extend this courtesy to a guest but refuses to do it…lazy! I live In this town but will never recommend this place. I could feel the coil in the bed. The building itself needs power washing. Just cheap people running a cheap motel. I did not get what I paid for. Sad it’s here making our city look cheap too!

The rooms were clean. But dreary. The staff was unfriendly borderline rude. I felt like when I asked questions.I was more of a bothering the front desk girls. The breakfast was okay seen like it was slopped together. The only. Thing that was good was the biscuits and gravy And the packaged desserts. The property seem unkept You can always tell when something is only surface clean. Found a few bugs in our room. Definitely would not stay again And Definitely was not worth the high rate for this room. Pictures online were very deceiving. The place did not look as a nice in person as it Did in the pictures.

Loved our stay. Dud not give it 5 stars because water was not hot...barely lukewarm and some furniture was very rundown. Complimentary Breakfast was really good! Staff excellent! Would definitely recommend and stay here again!

The property did not work like the photos advertise on the listing. The rooms were somewhat cleaned and decent definitely not as advertised. Location was perfect and within walking distance to the San Marco monument. Would not stay here again. Did not have staff frequently available.

Excellent location, as it is a stop on the tourist trolley and very close to attractions and restaurants. This is an old property but it is very clean. The beautiful live oak tree and the short walk on Magnolia behind the hotel makes up for the noise from being on the busy street.

The location was good for us. We picked it specifically because the “Old Town Trolley” tours stopped in the motel parking lot. This is the way to tour old town as parking is limited everywhere in the city. Our rooms seemed clean, though we did see one cockroach in one of the two rooms. Their complimentary breakfast was good. The area was kept clean and food items refilled as needed.

Great location for exploring St. Augustine. Less than a five minute walk to the Fountain of Youth and the trolley picks you up in the parking lot. Doesn’t get any easier than that! Good breakfast and friendly staff. This was my second stay here and I would do it again!

It’s in a great location, walkable to the historic neighborhood. And it is right around the corner from the fountain of youth. The trolley has a stop in the parking lot of this hotel which is convenient. Breakfast was good. Great benefit is having a pool which is priceless in old towns like St. Augustine.

Room was clean and AC worked wonderfully! The location was great and within walking distance of several attractions as well as the bus tour so I did not have to use my car while in St Augustine which was a plus. Breakfast was average but hot and edible.

This is an old road motel. They upgraded the rooms but the premises are sad. The breakfast room is hideous and the food worse than jail food. Gross

Great place, great price…really in the heart if St. Augustine and walkable to all the major sites- BONUS- there are some very friendly peacocks in the neighborhood who are happy to take a photo op! It checked all the boxes..clean and hospitable staff, with a protein breakfast bar.

Front desk was polite and welcoming; Location was ideal, trolley stop in parking lot. No noise from traffic at night. Room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast as expected; no frills but adequate for price paid.

This property definitely met our expectations! We loved that Villa 1565 was one of the Trolley Stops because of the Old Senator Tree. The front desk staff were more than accommodating, providing us a list of the recommended nearby restaurants with nice quick descriptions of each venue, the trolley map, and various brochures on things to do in the area. We tried the local Thai place across the street based off of the restaurant list and it was absolutely perfect. The room we stayed in had one chair, a microwave, a mini fridge, coffee maker, tv, and a decent sized bathroom. If anything could be improved before our next visit, I would stay the water pressure in the shower was pretty intense. It felt like we were being pelted with small pebbles, so needless to say the showers may need some work. When we checked into our room there appeared to be some pink paint on one of the chairs and a small hand towel maybe when the last guest or maintenance person tried to clean the spot, otherwise the room was spotless and tidy. We were overall happy with our stay and would choose to stay at this location again due to the convenience of the trolley, lovely free breakfast every morning, and proximity to everything downtown. All of the attractions were within walking distance so this made for the perfect location for our nearly effortless staycation. If you’re choosing a place to stay in St. Augustine for your next vacation, choose Villa 1565.

I stayed with my family for about 5-6 days and they did not clean, empty the trash cans for 2 days, room and bathroom needs cleaning and the staff is not friendly. On the days they did clean they would clean the rooms very late about almost over 4:00 pm. The place and room pictures show a false look on how the hotel looks. The free food breakfast they provide is very minimal, not great, and the same every day. The staff person who works in providing the breakfast is vey unfriendly.
