Beware, I thought I prepaid for three nights, but I hadn’t paid for the fees. $928 for sales tax, lodging tax, historic district fee, state hotel fee, community preservation fee, destination fee, destination fee tax, destination lodging tax. Parking is $20/night. Breakfast is a basket of store-bought mini muffins. “Suite” is not two rooms; it is a large room with a bed and a couch.

Overall pretty historic building hotel and good location. Our room was clean, spacious and relaxed ambiance. Pool area design was lovely. Valet staff were very respect and welcoming. Room view onto back street and parking lot disappointing for 2nd time stay at hotel. The shower soap dispenser was almost empty we had to request it be refilled. There was one instead of two guest slippers in our room, which we also had to request. Reception area is dark, hidden and not impressive for a 5 star. Sometimes no one was even at the reception. Service in the courtyard at 3 pm on Thursday was non-existent we had to go to the pool bar to order food. Upon departure we checked out and requested at reception that our luggage be brought down and our car brought around to the front. We sat waiting in the foyer no one called us eventually we went out to find our car parked off and no luggage brought down. Communication between reception & valet poor. I also had to remind reception about my hotels.com credit they never mentioned to us upon check in. Baked goods at complimentary breakfast well below average and really should have been of higher local baked quality. While nice to have coffee in actual coffee cups @ breakfast it was a really weak brand of coffee. We were paying enough per night to be served higher quality. Pool food was also average. A 5 star hotel should receive an excellent rating unfortunately I don’t feel comfortable giving it that.

The building itself is gorgeous, right on Forsyth park it’s really close to so many things you’d want to do in Savannah. It’s a beautiful red brick mansion with restaurants and bars on site, with a large pool and lounge area and a gorgeous greenhouse/atrium. This would all be very impressive on its own but the staff are what made this trip a true experience. Everyone from the bellhops, valets, bartenders, baristas, servers up to the managers we spoke with or had interactions with, were so kind, helpful and attentive. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt quite so “taken care of” at a hotel in my entire life. It was incredibly luxurious. When we asked for something there was always a great effort taken by the staff to ensure we had everything we needed. We will be back, and I will be recommending this hotel to anyone who goes within 100 miles of Savannah. Also if you enjoy cocktails make sure to stop by their bar, some of the best in Savannah and our bar was pretty high for that!

Savannah, With Better Pool Furniture:Hotel Bardo is what happens when a grand Savannah address decides tasteful is not enough. It wants to be fabulous. It wants a martini. And honestly? Fair. The valet team is friendly and efficient, and Bobby is a star: warm, helpful, and full of Savannah suggestions that were actually useful. Our suite was spacious enough to make checkout feel mildly offensive: a real living room with berry-and-blush chairs, a fireplace, and a private terrace overlooking the pool. There is a very nice Nespresso machine, and they even stock oat creamer in the room. I don't drink it, but it's a lovely touch for anyone traveling with you who does. The pool courtyard is the showstopper. Palms, striped decking, and pink-and-white scalloped umbrellas make it look like Palm Beach took a wrong turn and stayed for the architecture. By day it's a spritz-by-the-water situation. By night the pool glows, the music starts, and it becomes a full social scene. We will definitely be back!
