SCP Hilo Hotel

Ambitionen att vara ett hållbart boende är god, men det kan inte vara lätt när till exempel återvinning knappt existerar på ön. Men ett gemytligt hotell med trevlig personal. Rummet som låg intill poolområdet var ganska litet och mörkt, men eftersom det fanns flera olika platser med stolar/fåtöljer och bord gjorde det inte så mycket. Dessutom var rummet förhållandevis svalt och sängarna var bekväma. Det finns inte jättemånga restauranger på gångavstånd. Att promenera till centrum tar sin lilla tid och är en tråkig väg (gå inte längs havet, ett staket gör det omöjligt att ta sig över till affärer och restauranger). Hotellet ligger perfekt om man vill ta sig nationalparken med vulkanerna. Det tar 40-45 minuter att köra dit och om man ger sig iväg någorlunda tidigt hinner man få en p-plats även vid de mindre parkeringarna innan kaoset drar igång.

Trevligt å fint hotell. Bra personal. Snabb service. Fina rum. Parkeringen räckte till alla men väldigt trångt på vissla ställen.

Common areas were attractive. Our room was small and basically windowless. Staff was nice. Bathroom was so small you had to zigzag to reach the sink. I think a large person would struggle to navigate it. Bed comfy but pillows really small. Great amenities - convenient store, laundry, drinks, games, white noise machine, recreational gear to borrow. Location was nice, right across from the bay. I think the room in the relaxation wing was just a bummer. And I suspect the pool wing is bad too because of noise and the ocean wing looks down on a parking lot as far as I could tell. Try to get a room in the pond wing - I think you’ll have a balcony there or at least a window. Those rooms are probably nice. The place has a bit of a hostel feel. Their heart is really in the right place with their philosophy and their commitment to sharing their profits with good causes. But I partly picked them because they were listed somewhere as one of top ten hotels in the state and I’m sort of surprised they made the list considering the room we stayed in. Also they say you can tell them if you think it was poor value and pay what you think your room is worth but I would absolutely not feel comfortable doing that.

The room was clean but felt old and kind of retro to a Howard Johnson's - for the price we felt it was more of a 2-3 star experience. Everything in the front of the hotel is super cute and nice- we stayed in the back and though the room was clean the sink bath etc were clean but not in the best shape- could see water damage etc. the staff were super nice. But for the price I would stay elsewhere. Air conditioning available but off when you arrive- same for mini fridge. We arrived in the rain and it was kind of damp and felt dingy. Lighting was good in the bathroom And sheets towels very clean. There is an additional 29$ amenity fee for filtered water. Poor coffee quality etc for that price. We parked on the street and she told us parking was part of the amenity fee.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. The coffee is the lobby was delicious and always available.
