Management seems to be going out of its way to make this no better than a two star property. The “gym” for instance. A rack with just one weight, really? Frayed cables on the press is dangerous. Restaurant and pool open way too late. How about a kitchen with just one wine glass? Ice maker didn’t work, no bedding for the pullout, had to walk back down to request. 7ft ceilings in the bathroom? This location is just too good for this hotel and maybe needs to be razed for a new development.

Beautiful beach just past pool area. Outdoor pool was cold but nice l I unging area and convenient tiki bar. Room was very nice with views if beach. Perfect!

How wonderful to be so close to the ocean! Very convenient to have two pools as well. The rooms were fine. The restaurant and bar could have greater hours, and open every day. They were actually closed our last two days. If you are without a car there isn't anything accessible. Some staff were fabulous, others were sad and unenthusiastic. Overall we loved our stay though! Thank you!

The property is showing it’s age a little bit, but still very nice setting with nice pool and nice beach front. The staff was especially courteous. The restaurant did not have regular hours during my stay. Maybe short staffed.

Our unit was fairly clean. There were a few plumbing issues-the tub did not drain until the plug was removed and one toilet handle did not work well. The restaurant and tiki bar were not open. The views are beautiful. For an older property, it is fine.

I expected more! The staff were very friendly. I didn't care for the room. Very few amenities. You had to ask for everything. No house keeping service unless requested. Ice machine broken. Hot tub broken. Old small toilets. Living space furniture uncomfortable. Dining table chairs loose and wobbling. Refrigerator arms inside door were broken. The a/c was cold but only in certain areas. It could have used some ceiling fans. There was some mold and chalking issues. The bed howerever was comfortable. Movies in the living room area but not in the bedroom. Only basic cable. The pool was was just ok. Nice balcony and view of the beach and ocean. No free breakfast or free coffee in the lobby.

The sheets were old with yellow stains. The towels were gross. There were no sheets or blankets or pillows for the pullout. We had to go down to get sheets but they didn't have any pillows available. Coffee was 3 dollars a cup in the morning. There is no water available. The tiki bar was not open at any point during our stay in August. The paint was peeling in the lobby. The floor of the room was slanted. There was rust running down the door. There was mold in the bathtub. This property has great views but was otherwise disgusting and depressing.

Chairs and table on balcony covered with bird droppings - which would've been forgiveable if the room hadn't also been completely filthy. Marks on bedsheets, stains on towels. There were 2 spoons in the "equipped kitchen" - one a teaspoon, one a tablespoon - both dirty in the drawer as were both bowls (of two wildly different sizes) -- AFTER we washed the cups, the spoons, the bowls the three of us had to take turns (I'm not kidding) with the one appropriately sized cereal bowl and spoon. Completely ridiculous. Cleaning aside - the beds were super uncomfortable and none of us got decent sleep at all. Eco friendly? I'm sure they are, because they don't clean (saving water and resources I suppose). Good service? I gave them a three of five because they said they were giving me a full refund (I haven't seen it yet though) and I was able to go elsewhere in the end, but absolutely wouldn't stay here again even if I was paid to do so.

I like that this is Beach Front, as well as viewable beachfront from the balcony. In our particular room, there were blood stains in the bathroom on the wall, missing tiles in the bathroom, patches on the wall that were different color. Paint, the couch had rips in it, we found leftover items in the couch cushions, there was no bag for ice so I had to make sure that the ice bucket was washed out before we used it. We were expected to wash the dishes that we use, but there were no towels (only paper towels) to dry them off with. The hot tub was like lukewarm bath water, and the restaurant on site served anything that seemed like it was microwavable ready.

Great location on Wrightsville Beach. Small space was fine for my husband and myself. The particular condo we rented (213) needs some maintenance attention that I reported to the front desk. While the unit appears clean and neat, the floor was obviously not kept as clean as it could be, because my feet were dirty on the bottom after walking barefoot for an hour. Housekeeping left hair in the shower drain, which made me wonder if it had been cleaned properly prior to our arrival.

The place was alright. The room we got is a different story. It was dirty and for the price it’s honestly not worth it. The tub was dirty there was hair in the sink. I did let them know our towel were dirty. Spider web on the ceiling. Outlet was out of the wall. I didn’t even want to sit on the sofa. It was just so worn out. I’m sorry but I will not stay again. The staff was great can’t complain.

The room that was booked had several deficiencies. The microwave didn’t work, nor did the TV in the bedroom. The floors were filthy. They had not been swept or mopped. The kitchen cabinets had old food stained on them. There were several lights burnt out in both the living/dining space as well as the bathrooms and bedroom. Overall, if I had spent more time in the room it would have been very unpleasant. Also, the overall cleanliness of the building itself could have been better especially since there have been renovations recently. I had previously only heard nice things about the resort however, after my experience I would not recommend staying there.

They should really replace the sheets. All the sheets are gross and stained. Asked to replace them, they just turned them inside out. Then, asked for a set of sheets to do it myself and they still brought the sheets with stains. Would not recommend this hotel, especially if traveling with kids.

Beach access was perfect, some staff were nice and some were rude. Awesome views but the room was dirty, floors were filthy and the shower felt like it was so old you could see all the rusty stuff on the shower head.

It’s a very convenient place to stay. You can easily walk to the beach! The only thing is the rooms need major upgrades. The bed have dips in the middle, the shower heads need more water pressure. It’s hard to wash hair and get sand off with as weak shower head. The bathroom walls need to be wiped down from hair flyways and just overall dirty spots that need to be cleaned from others touching. TVs need to be mounted correctly as they are not straight on the walls. We didn’t get daily room clean. Did see the policy for room cleaning. Overall this is a place for beach convenience!

Room was a nice size with great view. Bed was plasticky and sheets were scratchy. Although the location and price were good, for an extra $100 I would stay down the street at the Holiday Inn Express next time.

Location is amazing and resort staff top notch. Kuddos to Nikki. Condo's a/c was not working and after sending technician few times it was deemed not fixable, staff was very responsive and following on a timely manner, we ended up been switched to a better condo, nevertheless it was disappointing to notice that original condo was really in not good shape and neglected of maintenance

Great beach view and location. Not too close to town, but very near (5 minutes)if you drive. Don't count on sleeping well though. The beds are horribly uncomfortable, noisy and seem to be very old. My wife likes softer beds and I like a firm mattress, but neither of us could get a good night's sleep. Overall the "resort" is pretty average at best. Needs a good overhaul and a lot of maintenance to be someplace we would come back to. I travel quite a lot and these are probably the worst beds I've tried to sleep on in the last 15 years. Staff is very nice and efficient but basically, you are not staying at a 4 star resort so don't expect much else. We spent a lot of time away from the hotel exploring the area so not much time in the room. Wrightsville Beach has some good restaurants. We checked the hotel guide and tried several of the recommended ones. All of them were very good. Shell Island is a decent value for a mid-week stay but if you're a light sleeper I would say that this isnt the place for you.
Great beach view and location. Not too close to town, but very near (5 minutes)if you drive. Don't count on sleeping well though. The beds are horribly uncomfortable, noisy and seem to be very old. My wife likes softer beds and I like a firm mattress, but neither of us could get a good night's sleep. Overall the "resort" is pretty average at best. Needs a good overhaul and a lot of maintenance to be someplace we would come back to. I travel quite a lot and these are probably the worst beds I've tried to sleep on in the last 15 years. Staff is very nice and efficient but basically, you are not staying at a 4 star resort so don't expect much else. We spent a lot of time away from the hotel exploring the area so not much time in the room. Wrightsville Beach has some good restaurants. Pool is way too small for the amount of people staying. Our first room was horrible! Thank goodness the resort found us other accommodations. The resort itself could use a bit of touch up. If real flowers can’t be planted just use greenery instead of plastic flowers. My first impression was it was unclean. Thrown together decor. We left a day early. Not sure I’d recommend to a friend. No dishcloths. Had to use washcloths to was my dishes. Take pride in what they have!

The suites are spacious and have good kitchenettes. Great view of the ocean and it is nice to be at the end of the island. The marsh on the other side of the hotel is a great place to explore. The beach is great but the pool is abit small.

The night staff were not very hospitable. The hotel needs some maintenance. The pull out sofa had crumbs on the sheets. When we asked for new sheets we had to come to the lobby to get them and the lady at the front seemed like she did not want to be there. The view and space was great.

I have stayed at this “resort” several times and made referrals. Unfortunately after this trip, I won’t be returning. The first night we stayed, I attempted to turn the air in the room down and the thermostat cut off completely and the heat kicked on. It got hot in there FAST. Called the front desk who said maint. would not be back until the morning & the only thing they could offer us was a new room. It was midnight… so at midnight I had to pack up the entire room & my 4 year old & move - to a room with a bed made for the Flintstones. I understand things happen and thankfully they were able to accommodate us in the moment. The issue was we were told a manager would contact us the following morning but we never heard from them. I followed up that evening and another note was left in the system as well as a written note requesting they contact us. The following day, still nothing. So when I checked out, I asked to speak to them before I left and Scott the manager was supposedly on a phone call but the sweet lady at the front desk was told that he would speak with the general manager and SHE (front desk rep) would contact us the next day. I received 2 calls that day to confirm we were out of the room - but yet it’s been over a week and still haven’t heard from anyone. Seems Scott can’t be bothered. On top of that, resort fees and room costs went up…but no comp coffee, drunks at the pool, min. on room service, breakfast is not complimentary and is mediocre at best etc.

The staff at the front desk were very rude and inconsiderate. It felt like we were inconveniencing them and didn’t want to help. That alone will be the reason we’ll never stay there again. Which is sad because we liked everything else.

Arrived after 10pm on a Friday (called ahead to let them know)...got to the room, and there were no sheets for the pull-out. Called and asked for sheets/pillows. After 45 minutes, called again and was told "My shift started at 11pm, so I didn't know." Last staff member forgot to send these, and forgot to pass along the task. Went to collect the items and was told there were no pillows "because we're booked". Rooms have a kitchenette, so I made breakfast Saturday...but while they provided soap, there was no sponge...so I used a paper towel, and figured the sponge would be resupplied by housekeeping. By mid-afternoon, they hadn't come by, so I checked the info sheet given at check-in, and saw that housekeeping is only "upon request". Would have been nice to have been told this verbally, as I'm really not interested in reading assignments from the place I'm paying for a relaxing weekend. Saturday morning, we realized there were only 2 bath towels for 4 people, so we called and requested additional towels...which also never came, so we had to get them ourselves later that afternoon. At that point, we were planning on hitting the beach...and noted the $50 charge for an umbrella and 2 chairs. I also noted they charge $45/hr for late checkout. For $500/night at a beach hotel, housekeeping should be daily, I shouldn't need to retrieve sheets/towels myself, shouldn't be shorted pillows, and you shouldn't be charged extra for late checkout or for umbrellas and chairs.

When I checked in I was told front desk would call me when my room was ready. I waited for over an hour and a half and went to front desk to ask about room. I was told there was a maintenance hold on my room. I had to ask, “so what do I do” and was told they would try to find another room for me. They could have called and told me that 1.5 hours ago. No one seemed to care.

We checked in very late (2am) but the girl at the desk was completely rude and unfriendly. We got to our room and didn’t have blankets for the sofa bed and only two towels. We called the desk and she said “you need to come and get them.” Our room was right by the parking structure so we heard beeping constantly since the bedroom was on that side. And even though it is a smoke free facility, we could not use our balcony on the second floor because there were people constantly smoking below us.

Location location! It was wonderful to be oceanfront with a balcony. What was a surprise were the sunset views over the wetlands. Since the resort is at the end of the road, the beach walks were amazing! The bed was comfortable and to have 1 1/2 baths for the two of us was very convenient. The property while dated had friendly staff. For a unique experience of natural beauty with all the comforts of home, we recommend Shell Island Resort.

The front desk staff were incredibly welcoming and friendly, both at check-in and check-out, which made us feel right at home. The on-site restaurant was a pleasant surprise with delicious food and great service, though we were a little disappointed it was closed on Monday. Wrightsville Beach, and especially at that very end, is my favorite in all NC. Location, location, location! This resort is in the best location at the end with no traffic. I believe the units are privately owned so each one is different. They’re older but kept up nicely. Try to get one with 180’ view at the ends. They have a bedroom with different bed configurations and usually a pullout sofa. Indoor and outdoor pools and restaurant, yeah, but the beach… it’s worth a million. Eat at Bluewater while you’re there. Shelling and wading at the distant end of the island is worth the walk.

Beautiful place, area, and views! Restaurant was lacking as were options in the immediate area, but Wilmington had nice choices, and of course the room gad a kitchen. Biggest issue was I left items behind and immediately (w/in 30 min of checking out) contacted them. Responses were slow or not at all. I did eventually get my items back but one of a few messages that went ignored was my request for shipping/tracking info, eta. Never heard back. But again, I did receive my items. Just, being ignored is never good and very unprofessional. Front desk staff was great. Restaurant staff too, the food just wasn’t. Grandkids didn’t even like it. Only went there once for dinner and never went back. Tried once for breakfast but they opened too late (8 or 9).

Absolutely lovely in every way possible! The beach was breath-taking. The view of the beach and ocean from the balcony was amazing. The bed was comfy (not that I slept much...trying to soak in all the beach/ocean/sunrise/sand I could in 2 days). The water was hot. The kitchenette was cute and well-stocked with utensils, cups, plates, etc. The decor was adorable, relaxing and inviting. The only downside we encountered involved the on-site restaurant. They closed at 4 p.m. and Monday morning, when ordering breakfast, they had no biscuits, and we were the first order they took. And then it was closed the entire day the next day. But, that could have been for cleaning, maintenance, short-staffing...a number of things. It was just a bummer because I was looking forward to dining there on multiple occasions.

How wonderful to be so close to the ocean! Very convenient to have two pools as well. The rooms were fine. The restaurant and bar could have greater hours, and open every day. They were actually closed our last two days. If you are without a car there isn't anything accessible. Some staff were fabulous, others were sad and unenthusiastic. Overall we loved our stay though! Thank you!

The property is showing it’s age a little bit, but still very nice setting with nice pool and nice beach front. The staff was especially courteous. The restaurant did not have regular hours during my stay. Maybe short staffed.

On site restaurant was closed. Only time it was open was the morning I checked out. No other place to eat without driving, and restaurants are hard to find. Smoking not allowed anywhere, even on the beach. Too many rules on the beach. NOT RELAXING.

Good: private beach with smooth soft sand, outdoor and indoor pool, Good: quiet safe neighborhood near a ton of restaurants shops bars etc. Good: ocean front unobstructed view and spacious rooms, with ac that kept it cool in spite of 110 temperature and glass front to suite Bad: bad tasting bad smelling sulfur rotten egg smell water in shower sink and kitchen (entire island according to management in other words, apparently any hotel has this same issue) Bad: concave worn out uncomfortable ancient lumpy mattress - literally the worst I've ever had in any hotel and that's over 300 in my lifetime in six different countries, three continents Bad: grout in bathroom filthy floor noticeably dirty immediately upon arrival took off my shoes and regretted it - separating area between bathroom and bedroom absolutely filthy. No bed bugs and passibly clean otherwise. Solutions- wore socks, put a towel by my bed to clean feet before getting into bed, problem solved. Good: private beach with smooth soft sand, outdoor and indoor pool, Good: quiet safe neighborhood near a ton of restaurants shops bars etc. Good: ocean front unobstructed view and spacious rooms, with ac that kept it cool in spite of 110 temperature and glass front to suite Bad: bad tasting bad smelling sulfur rotten egg smell water in shower sink and kitchen (entire island according to management in other words, apparently any hotel has this same issue) Bad: concave worn out uncomfortable ancient lumpy mattress - literally the worst I've ever had in any hotel and that's over 300 in my lifetime in six different countries, three continents Bad: grout in bathroom filthy floor noticeably dirty immediately upon arrival took off my shoes and regretted it - separating area between bathroom and bedroom absolutely filthy. No bed bugs and passibly clean otherwise. Solutions- wore socks, put a towel by my bed to clean feet before getting into bed, problem solved.
