Riu Palace Tropical Bay - All Inclusive

Loved the all inclusive vacation package. The hotel facilities were, in general, clean and well maintained. There was quite a bit of afternoon rain so there were wet areas around the building steps that made walking hazardous. It would be good to look at elevator options for each building to allow easier access for residents needing a safer balance.

Air conditioner for whole property was not working properly and our room had a leak that was never fixed. Resort is in need of upgrading. Staff was excellent as always and beach is beautiful!

I really enjoyed the beach at Riu Palace Tropical Bay. What I didn’t like about the property, however, is that all three of its pools close at 6 p.m. and so does the swim-up bar. I really wish one of the pools would have stayed open until 10 p.m., because that would have given my family and I more time to enjoy the resort after our excursions.

The toilets through out the resort were terrible. Easily clogged and just terrible. Our room toilet clogged day one. Used lobby bathroom, clogged. Spoke with other tourist to hear Clogged. I used the batjroom garbage pail, filled it with water, dumped in toilet to help flush

Resort needs a ATM machine, pool should stay open to guess a little longer.

Great staff at reception, great cleaning staff. Wiifi was a great disappointment. The wifi connection was only good in the lobby, room and buffet areas. There was poor wife service in the restaurants, in the other common areas and near pool. There was no wifi at the beach.

Safe and not crowded. The staff was friendly. The spa was great. A very pretty place to stay.

Nice property and facilities, but poorly ran. Room was not clean when we arrived, lock on the back door was broken. Room smelled moldy. Sun beds absolutely filthy. Good food. Beautiful beach.

The staff were very warm and welcoming. The housekeepers did try their best to keep the rooms comfortable but there was a constant smell of sewage in my room. I don’t know what caused it, I also smelled the odor in certain locations while walking the property. The buildings are poorly designed; no elevators for three floors! The food was a 4/10. Parking is not secure. Entertainment at night was good. The pools were very small and there are only 4 restaurants and 3 of those need a reservation.

There were roaches everywhere! I stayed on the second floor and had to kill 4 roaches inside my room. Also when walking around I kept seeing them run up walls and going into other rooms. Other than that the views were amazing and the property itself was nice.

Stayed July 19–26, 2025. Rooms were infested with roaches, spiders, and other bugs. Hair on floors, in bedding, and bathrooms; one bed smelled of urine. Food areas had roaches, fruit flies, and water pitchers filled with a garden hose. Guests smoked cigarettes , family-friendly resort.

Moldy Room + No Refund Despite Early Checkout We arrived on July 24, 2025, and were immediately hit with a strong mold and mildew smell in the room completely uninhabitable. Housekeeping never showed up, so we called Expedia. Their rep told us to check out immediately and promised we’d be refunded for the hotel portion. We followed instructions, checked out the same day without staying, and the hotel confirmed our departure. Now Expedia says we’re losing the full $2,700 because the hotel won’t approve the refund even though we didn’t use the room. This is unacceptable. We didn’t cancel or no-show we were advised to leave due to unsafe conditions. This experience has been incredibly frustrating and feels like a scam. Guests should be able to trust that if a room is unsafe for health reasons, they won’t be penalized for refusing to stay. I’m now having to fight for a refund that should’ve been automatic based on Expedia’s own advice and the hotel’s conditions. Avoid this resort if you value cleanliness, air quality, or customer service. And avoid relying on Expedia support unless you get everything in writing. Very disappointed!!!!!😡😡😡

I enjoy my stay on the property and the food was delicious but I would like to suggest they have the resort exterminated cause I saw roaches in the buffet area by the food n plates and in my room

The lobby bathrooms outside of the hotel rooms were NOT clean and pretty nasty.

I have been coming to the Riu Palace since 2003 or 4 never experience roaches the roaches was on the food court buffet for lunch roaches was in our bathroom roaches is in our bedroom scattering I've never I was scared to leave my luggage to bring roaches back to the US with me I've never seen roaches at their palace before please correct this I had to leave the real and go to the Royalton

The best part of this resort is Sillion, Giovani, Andrew and Mike at the bar. The best part of dining was the waitress Karonn. The place is dirty, cockroaches in the rooms, plumbing issues, smell damp like mold.

We had a wonderful time at Riu Tropical Bay Negril! The beach is the most beautiful beach that we have ever seen and we live in Southern California! Only negatives were the women’s restroom always smelled like sewer and there was some deferred maintenance around the property. Staff was nice, especially when tipped. Need to update some of the restaurants and menu items. Also, went to the other Riu property and found it to be much more up to date, but the beach at Tropical bay was far superior!

The rooms were very nice but there was always something wrong. We had to move out of our room because it smelled like there was a sanitation leak. They gave us an upgraded room but the soap dispenser in the shower was broken.

Nice place I had an ocean view suit and I loved my room I could sit on the balcony and listen to the ocean and still get a tan. It rained one day so the ocean view was great

Clean quiet

The resort is right by busy highway, and they put us on a corner building right by the highway. There is not sound proof what so ever. I did not get much sleep the three days there

My experience was very enjoyable. The staff were helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. The resort was clean. My room was comfortable except for the hard mattress.

Restaurants were good. But it's just a average hotel. Outdated but not bad for the price. The beach was nice but absolutely zero snorkeling at this hotel. No fish at all in the water.

The dining, bar, and activities Staff were superb - as always! The front desk Staff don't seem to be equipped with the information or resources required to aptly assist guests. This trip, the AC was out, and there was no warning - not prior to the trip or upon registration, not even when we called the front desk to inquire about the air in the room. Even after a bellman informed us, the front desk did not offer a fan for comfort. The next day, when we asked for a fan, we were told there were none available. What we weren't told was that more were being delivered or that as soon as there was a check out one would be provided - just NOTHING. NO AC for 4 of 6 nights...no bueno. The front desk was not helpful at all; there were a lot of shrugs and thrown up hands, but nothing resembling assistance. This AC issue was horribly mismanaged from a communications & service excellence perspective. We expect so much more from the RIU and they fell short this trip.

Staff made our stay exceptional

My stay at RIU Palace Tropical Bay was a mixed bag. The food was absolutely fantastic, with plenty of variety and excellent flavors. Unfortunately, the overall experience was dampened by the unfriendly staff, particularly the front desk manager, Andrew Mulai. I encountered several instances of unprofessionalism. Additionally, the cleanliness, especially in public restrooms, left much to be desired.

The staff was amazing. the food was top notch. Can't complain about a single thing. The beach was the best. One of the best services ever received.

Property is a 10/10. The staff was exceptional!! Everyone is so inviting. All staff members that I came in contact with were amazing. Including Sillion, Mike, Andrew, Andre and Christopher from the steakhouse. I will be going back again.

2 out of 5 stars The only reason this isn’t a one-star review is because the beach was absolutely beautiful. That said, everything else fell short of expectations. We were extremely disappointed with how the staff treated us depending on whether or not we tipped—or even if they assumed we wouldn’t. This is marketed as an all-inclusive resort, yet we felt pressured to tip constantly: every meal, every drink, housekeeping, and pretty much any interaction. It created an uncomfortable atmosphere that overshadowed what should have been a relaxing experience. The room was another letdown. As a so-called family resort, the space was shockingly small for a family of four. With two toddlers (ages 3 and 4), it felt cramped and stressful any time we were in the room. Definitely not designed with young families in mind. We won’t be returning. The beach isn’t enough to make up for everything else.

I liked the food. Cleanest. The pool and the sea. I did not like the sevice of the ftont desk in the morning of July 8th...at 7-8 am..my pick up was arranged by the RIU representave for 7:15am and did not show up. And had to pay to get to montigo which we almost miss our flight. The front dest totally egnored and laugh of my sittuation which I gound very rude and unprofessional.very disappointed..your public rellation should look at this message.

Terrible. Costumer services non existent

To begin our checkin process was less than ideal, I expected to wait upon our arrival considering check in was noted to be 3pm, so no surprise me & my daughters arrived at 12 expecting to wait but also expecting a warm welcome, maybe some insights on what we could do or how we could possibly find space to change out of our cold weather clothing, instead we were not greeted and instead figured this out on our own. We grabbed lunch on property as instructed and were met with resistance as we didn’t have a wrist band. I circled back to reception to get our bands, most of the staff at this time were unfriendly throughout the dining experience as they were at the front desk. At 3:15pm I asked approx how much longer, I was traveling with a 6yr old and we’d been awake at this point since 3am and I noted this to the receptionist, adding that my little one was pretty hot and sweaty not to mention tired. About 40 mins later the from the front called us over and said “we don’t want you to wait longer, but the linens haven’t fully been changed, here’s your key some1 will be over shortly”. We were told our room was down the ramp. I’m a 4’11 120lb woman traveling with 2 young girls, I wasn’t offered any help with our luggage or direction to our room. Just pointed to a ramp. I circled the property lost in the heat carrying my bags for another 30 mins not wanting to head back upstairs before a kind worker pointed us to the 3 story walk up to our room. Leaving was equally bad w/ no help

Beach at RIU was amazing and a fracton of the beach hustlers when compared to 7 mile!

The staff here was very friendly and accommodating of young kids. The beach was perfect for little kids as well, with calm, warm and shallow waters. The food was decent, and it was relatively easy to get reservations at the several restaurants onsite. The pool was great and there seemed to be a lot of entertainment options for the adults too. I read a lot of reviews about the transfer services from the airport - when you make the booking, the hotel will send you a form to fill out with your arrival information. You won't get any confirmation but Destination Services will have your arrival info. it was an easy process. we would definitely go back to this hotel.

We had a wonderful stay. The property is on a perfect part of bloody bay. Can't beat the sunsets and the bay is very calm. The property is clean however the lack of elevators caused a lot of problems for me and my partner. Please put in elevators. Also the 24 hour lounge is just blah. The food is mediocre at best. Always old and dried out food. Wish we had a sports bar like on the sister resort. I also wish there were better options for room service menu. The food is so limited. Why not provide burgers and fries and some pasta dishes. Warm dishes for your guest who are feeling unwell or exhausted from climbing 3 flights of stairs in a very humid environment. I think adding a club option would help to provide more options for those who want more luxury. Aside from that we had a great time. And if we see some improvements we will be back in a heartbeat.

Location - This resort is located on bloody bay/ near seven mile beach. It is 2 hours away from the Montego Bay airport and is bit of a long drive, but well worth it! Beach - The location is amazing & the Beach is very clean and well maintained. They don’t have sun umbrellas, but there are a plenty of loungers under tree shade. A lot of water activities keep happening on the beach. We tried tubing and it was a great experience. Rooms - We took the standard room and it was nice, clean and spacious. It was located on the first floor and away from the pools. From the balcony, we had a partial view of the sea and a nice tropical garden view with coconut trees. In case you want to drink fresh coconut water, you can ask staff members to take down fresh coconut from trees and they will happily do that. Staff and service - All around the resort, the staff is very friendly! It is a good idea to tip them (not mandatory). Reception staff is welcoming especially Aeisha and in the buffet restaurant Shane was really helpful! Spa - We tried the 50 mins relaxing massage and it was nice, but I have had better experience in other spas. Food - We tried Hakushi (Japanese) and Rimini (Italian) in fine dining options. Both were decent, but very limited options for vegetarians. Buffet was grand with a lot of options even for vegetarians. Food was good overall.

Everything was amazing. The beach was crystal clear.

The property is well maintained, very clean, organized, people is friendly and attentive and the BEST PART is definitely the BEACH, the beach is amazing, the clear crystal blue color was definitely a deal breaker for my husband and I.. we can’t wait to return.

Very accommodating, gated area with security on the grounds and property on the beach, I love the hotel style treatment, change of towels and cleaning daily and staff wash your clothes at the end of your stay, I definitely recommend.

Rooms are exactly as shown. Food and drinks are great. From our experience, some buffet items do not get replenished. Fruit was one of the key factors. Since fruit is local produce. Coffee shop does not open until 1000. Why? Only self serve coffee machine at 24:7 service cafeteria.All Pools close at 6pm. Besides these small intricacies. Local food at buffet is great. Mostly same items daily. Jerk hut chicken is amazing. Bartenders are great at making all kinds of drinks. Rum is their specialty. Bob Marley, Dirty Banana, Jamaican Smile.. to name a few. The resort is well kept and maintained. Night entertainment was good. The beach is beautiful and calm. Made for a nice tranquil stay.

The housekeeping staff was phenomenal. 10/10 service. The property was clean and well kept and the wild life made it very tropical with the sounds of birds and insects. I would definitely recommend.

Access to a beautiful beach was excellent. The biggest issue with this hotel was the buffet food which was extremely disappointing. Evening buffet was completely uninspiring - no flow to how the food was laid out, poor signage for items - everything was not labelled, signage was small font, difficult to read with bad lighting, generally food was unappealing - dried out, greasy Short staffed behind key buffet areas causing line ups, roast beef on carving station was substandard with a large piece of gristle through the centre, should never have been served. Jerk Hut - 20 minute delays with no meat during lunch hour, only offered chicken on the day I went there. Could not get a fresh cooked hamburger, the buffet burgers were disgusting. Steak House dinner was the best meal of the entire stay. Guestroom was lovely, staff were friendly and helpful

This is far the best RIU I’ve been to. This property, beach, staff are amazing. My only complaint is their ridiculous dinning reservation system. Reservations ( not the buffet) are difficult to obtain. Plenty of open seats at the unavailable restaurants, so they should staff up accordingly and make them available, perhaps even a late seating. Fix this problem, this resort would be a 10.

The beach is perfect, and plenty of seating. The beef option at all the specialty restaurants should be avoided it is not edible very tough, but the chicken, and lamb options are very good. I would like it if the pools did not close at 6:00.

Staff were great as was service. Facilities and the room were nice. Food completely average, not great but not bad….room service is not good at all, and the 24 hour snack lounge is terrible. Coffe bar was great, as were the regular bars but there are zero top shelf options at this resort. There is also very little to no nightlife at this resort. It’s a very low energy quiet resort for sure. We didn’t hate our stay but we also didn’t really enjoy it much. The beach is amazing and was the only reason we decided to stay here to start with.
