We booked this hotel over Christmas weekend because we wanted the cozy Christmas experience. It was disappointing that none of the fireplaces were working. The lobby fireplace apparently just needed a change in batteries but we were told it was a gasline issue. The fireplace in the tavern was not working all weekend. It was COLD in the tavern and the other restaurant. Lobby management seemed inexperienced and unable to explain what was wrong with the fireplaces (two people gave different reasons and one person had no idea why it wasn't working). Waitstaff in restaurants seemed overwhelmed (not enough waitstaff). I think for the amount the hotel charges per night, the fireplace issues should have been figured out before Christmas weekend.

Very clean facility. Somethings were on the cheap side. ie. 1 bar of soap for sink and bath. I assumed it would be fixed on the second day but it wasn't. Only 2 plastic cups for the room. They had a terrific looking Tavern but it was only open for brunch on Sun. No guide to what the facility offered in the room.

Only stayed one night, but it was great. The staff were pleasant & helpful, generously accommodating my need for a late check-out. Facility is nicely furnished in period pieces, from different periods so somewhat eclectic, but attractive and well maintained. The lobby has several spacious lounge areas with good seating. A little disappointing that the Tavern is only open for Sunday brunch, but the full service, well-staffed and attractive Cafe has a diverse menu for breakfast, lunch & dinner daily. The room was spacious, and well furnished with seating and lighting options. Oddly, there was no wall art, but the bed and bedding were comfortable. Loved that there was a good cotton blanket to use in place of the ubiquitous heavy duvet most hotels have adopted.

This hotel is legendary in the area. Unfortunately, it's tagline isn't tradition meets innovation. That is it's not set up for handicapped access, elevators that are even a little more spacious, toilets that are not jammed against the wall, outlets that are so loose that plugs fall out immediately, lamps/lights that are logically connected to the switches, etc. What is more, it hasn't been upgraded to include USB-A or B or C ports. The USB-A ports on the TV cabinet are too far. Speaking of TV, the TV received no signal for at least one night. That maintenance is not on duty after 6pm is not an excuse to have channels inaccessible. Some challenging and some easy upgrades would make this beautiful building a great place to stay. Luckily, the desk staff and the room staff were great and accomodating. I don't, however, know about

The room we stayed at was outside of the hotel in a little house, which was fine but would have better known in advance. When we opened the door it was an immediate musty smell in the hallway, and in the room. The AC was a window unit, and the room was damp. For $400+ a night it was not up to par. Although, inside the hotel may be a different experience. The door to the outside did not close behind us when we left which was a safety issue, it only closed if you pulled down the handle from the inside of the door, so it closed when we were going into the room, not if someone was leaving.

Very nice place to stay. It’s close to everything: restaurants, shops, concerts. The only inconvenience is the loud heater/fan that we had to turn off in the middle of the night and rather taking colder room temperature than the noise.

It’s a large old hotel that hasn’t quite caught up to the 21st century. My room had no place to plug in my devices and no available outlet. The bed was comfortable the bathroom new but the room itself was tiny.

I had the privilege of getting a balcony room on the 3rd floor and it was FABULOUS. The room was bigger than I had expected, but the bathroom was small, and felt in need of an update..at LEAST with the lighting. I know it's an old building, but, it was bad. The rest of the room was lit comfortably. The bed was comfy, but not as comfy as the beds I've had at a different (and lower priced!) hotel in Town. Pay for the charm, not for the comfort factor. My one actual "complaint", is that there is no MAP (other than the fire escape one on the back of the door) and the building is a maze! Other than that, the staff was kind, and helpful. It's always fun to stay in historical places!

This is a lovely property... by far the best place in the area. It's well cared for but is missing the updates needed for a business trip (not enough places to plug in) and a rather old-fashioned HVAC system. This was my second stay and I would stay there again.

Location is about the only thing this hotel has going for it. The rooms are small and furniture is old and chipped and the pieces look like they were cobbled together from a tag sale. The staff pounds on your door at 10am to get you up and out. Classy.

We last stayed at this hotel several years ago for our daughter’s wedding. At that time we were quite pleased with it. On this trip, but for the exterior and lobby it was a whole new experience. While our room was large it felt as though we were in a 1950s Howard Johnson The amenities were below average: nothing in the refrigerator, a coffee machine that screamed 1950, a bathroom that looked as if it had been upgraded by Bath Fitters (with very tight budget restrictions), and a bed that was a double not a queen. I’m sorry but we won’t be back.

I was not happy with my room, it was in a run down section of the hotel . Not part of the main hotel The bartender in the Wiggins restaurant, part of the hotel was very rude . I also spoke to the front desk staff in regards to his professionalism, and they didn’t seem to care whatsoever

This place is great! We had a stay at another hotel the night before that was so bad. We ditched that place last minute & switched to the Hotel Northampton. So relieved to be staying at this place after that experience! Hotel Northampton is beautifully maintained with comfortable amenities. The front desk was super helpful as well. No complaints!

This is based on the customer service we received. My partner and I had booked a king room for the night of December 26, 2025. We didn’t make it to Northampton due to the winter storm that hit New England that night. We ended up getting a hotel elsewhere as the conditions became too unsafe for travel. I called the Hotel Northampton to let them know we wouldn’t be coming and the first words out of the person who picked up the phone were we will still be charging you for the room. I replied that this was a courtesy call to let them know (someone else may have ended up in the same situation, in need of a place to stay) and that I knew I would not get a refund. She then went to hang up without even asking me my name. Needless to say, we won’t be planning another stay at the Hotel Northampton.

Proximity to unique specialty shops was an absolute bonus. Being from Canada, this fact made for a wonderful trip, I felt like a young teen again, albeit with a little more life experience! - I inadvertently dropped my drivers licence while there and had to back track and retrace my steps…I was completely stressed by this. Every shop I visited during that time helped me look for my missing identification, one shop in particular (Shop Therapy) offered to look over their security cameras to try and help me locate my licence…no luck. Then as luck would have it, the staff from the Hotel Northampton called me to say a local delivery person had found and returned my licence to their front desk! I was elated and so relieved for this gesture…in my native language “Chi Miigwetch” or Big Thank You to that caring individual and to the staff for a great overall positive attitude and professional approach to their jobs… I’ll be Back! - Trevor (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada)…🙂

Front desk staff was kind and helpful. Maids enjoyed knocking on the door early in the morning and waking everyone up. Room was clean and spacious and comfortable.

The hotel was overall ok. Our check in experience was off putting given there was a drunk couple who didn’t have a credit card and were lingering trying to pay with cash - not the front desks fault. When we were finally able to check in it went smoothly however got to our rooms and had two double beds instead of a king. At that point we were too tired to address with the front desk. At check out they couldn’t find our reservation and then said we had booked two rooms(which we had not). We left early the next morning so did not experience food or any hotel amenities. The building could use a face lift however does have charm and historic vibe coming through. Park was super easy and central to downtown and walking around.

The staff is very welcoming and friendly. We asked for an early checkin and they obliged. The hotel is located right downtown. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The bed was extra comfortable and very quiet at night for sleeping.

Very nice place to stay. It’s close to everything: restaurants, shops, concerts. The only inconvenience is the loud heater/fan that we had to turn off in the middle of the night and rather taking colder room temperature than the noise.

Been staying here for many years and the Hotel Northampton never disappoints, from the great condition of the room to the friendliness of the staff. The walkability into town and Smith make it an excellent location.

Beautiful historic building, there was a wedding party the night we stayed but we were in a 5th floor room and heard nothing. Lots of fun dining options within a couple blocks.

Lovely hotel in a charming city. On-site dining was a bit overwhelmed but very pleasant staff and good food made up for the slight wait. Room was tidy and quiet. Highly recommend.

This is a very comfortable well-served hotel. However it has two restaurants. Wiggins Tavern which is excellent but closed much of the week. The Coolidge Cafe is simply awful, poorly prepared food and a limited menu. Breakfast so terrible I had to send it back.

The bed was perfect, not too hard or soft. The cafe was excellent, we had dinner and breakfast, and it was tasty, not too expensive and the portions were big.

Pretty historical lobby. The gym a/c was out, and there is a $5 fee for room service. Food was excessively salty. Could hear people talking in the next room over.

Only stayed one night, but it was great. The staff were pleasant & helpful, generously accommodating my need for a late check-out. Facility is nicely furnished in period pieces, from different periods so somewhat eclectic, but attractive and well maintained. The lobby has several spacious lounge areas with good seating. A little disappointing that the Tavern is only open for Sunday brunch, but the full service, well-staffed and attractive Cafe has a diverse menu for breakfast, lunch & dinner daily. The room was spacious, and well furnished with seating and lighting options. Oddly, there was no wall art, but the bed and bedding were comfortable. Loved that there was a good cotton blanket to use in place of the ubiquitous heavy duvet most hotels have adopted.

The Hotel lobby smells like old, I understand it is old but don't take a deep breath in there. There was personal trash left in the room from the previous guest, Not having the Tavern open is just a shameful waste of a gorgeous place.

The front desk was very helpful, kindly helping with two boxes I had shipped to their address earlier of items related to move-in for Smith student. Free parking and conveniently located near Smith and the restaurants and stores of Northampton.

Rooms were small and poorly maintained. There was mold where the ceiling and the windows met. the wall paper was peeling, and there was rust on the plastic tub (somehow). Very little insulation between the walls. would have been what I expected from a $70-100 a night room not a $350 a night room. The hotel is in a really cool building which has a great location it is a real shame that management is so greedy and doesn't keep up the property. Also there was some thing about no outside alcohol being allowed, which didn't bother me but is weird and greedy.

This was the perfect location, in the middle of town. Easy to get around. Beautiful but dated. More detail could go into repairing small details such as blinds. The bed was the most comfortable; I could just melt into it. The staff was super friendly and helpful; there is a wonderful restaurant with great breakfast options.
