This was our first stay here, but would come back in the future. The balcony views on the water are lovely! It has a small lake for swimming next to the hotel, as well.

One night stay - it’s a short five minute walk from the train station which is a big plus. Excellent view of the lake and Hallstatt. Basic rooms with no AC but otherwise clean and tidy.

Frühstücksbuffett vom Hofel angeboten aber nicht in Anspruch genommen. Check-in war sehr reibungslos und super organisiert. Betten sehr komfortabel, Dusche und Bad sauber und gut. Parkplatz vor dem Hotel verfügbar für 18€. Anleger/ Steg leider nicht betretbar - nur Strandbad nebenan.

Location: This hotel can be reached from Hallstatt either by boat or by car. The location itself is right in front of the lake, making it quiet and pleasant. Check-in: Guests receive their room key through self-check-in and proceed directly to their room. Detailed instructions are provided. Facilities: The room is equipped with basic amenities, and each room has a balcony overlooking the lake. There is no air conditioning, but since it is located by the lake, the temperature stays rather cool. There is no electric kettle available for boiling water. Service: There is one staff member at the front desk who fulfills their duties well, providing clear and friendly explanations on matters they can assist with. The overall atmosphere of the accommodation feels closer to a hostel than a full-service hotel.

The location is the best part by far. Simply stunning and great to stay on the lake. Great pizza place just a block or so away. Rooms have no fridge FYI and hotel is not fancy - even though it’s rather expensive. You’re paying for the location and it’s worth it.

Not that impressed with the hotel but it was close to Hallstatt and that’s what we wanted. The hotel was close to the boat dock and that made things nice. Our room was very small but we did like the view from the little deck. There is no elevator so we had to carry our bags up the stairs. Overall it is fine for just one night for us.

Easy to get too via the Overtraun train station. There are also a couple of eateries near by too. We didn't eat breakfast - so cannot comment on that, but met our needs sufficiently. I arrived at the property to find no one there and unable to check in. Finally another guest happened to walk by and showed me how to check myself in. This was 6:30pm and there was absolutely no staff. Not only was there no staff, the place was completely locked up.I made a reservation at this place because I wanted to enjoy the beautiful terrace on the lake but unfortunately it was closed with no access. The restaurant and bar was already closed too. At 6:30pm! Not only that, the vending machines were completely empty. Only thing to drink at that time was out of the bathroom faucet. Another important thing to know is there is very little around this hotel. The only place nearby to get a drink or something to eat closes at 8pm. This place has mediocre reviews for a reason. Take your chances some where else.

I never received the check in instructions and had to call the property, luckily someone answered immediately. Once upstair where the rooms are the carpet was filthy in the hall, felt almost like a hostile because it was so small and cramped. Did not feel clean at all as far as the rooms go. If the weather is bad and you cannot go outside you are pretty much stuck inside the hotel. Not fun if the weather is bad!

Upon arrival, the bathroom floor had puddles of water, when I walked in my socks were drenched. When I opened the closet, there was a bundle of dirty socks with a terrible stench from the previous guest and in addition to this 3 dirty wet, smelly towels. The beds were comfortable, very clean sheets, nice pillows, but the room was depressing. I bought breakfast for 3 people, my 14 yr old son decided not to come, I told the man serving breakfast my son was not coming so I would take something to him, so I made my son two sandwiches to go and put them in my purse and the man literally came up to me in front of everyone and asked me to show him how many sandwiches I put in my purse, I was so humiliated I checked out at once & did not even care if I lost the money from the next night. BTW, I asked the reception if I was going to be able to go on a boat ride then next day or the Ice Caves and she said the weather was going to be terrible so most likely not. Then I ran into my friends in Salzburg and they said they weather was lovely, lots of sun and the Ice caves were open. Plenty f nice hotels around here, don't bother w this one.

Amazing view and surrounding areas. Check in was easy, but no staff around at check in as we had a question (we had tried contacting the property early in the day and got no response then either). Was slightly disgusted by blood stains on pillow case and blanket (im assuming they were stains and not fresh nlood).

Beautiful view from our balcony overlooking Hallstadt Lake. Very quiet. Room was very basic but spotless and bed comfortable. Breakfast was enjoyable. Staff very accommodating with electricity converter.

Very clean room but very small. Small shower and toilet area. We were only there for one night. Easy parking which was a plus. Great location

The room was very clean and quiet with a stunning lake view. The staff was helpful when I had question about checking in. It’s a good place nearby to stay when visiting Hallstatt.

Wir wollten zu zweit eigentlich nach Hallstadt und hatten "nur" noch dieses Hotel an der anderen Seeseite bekommen. Zum Glück :-) Das Hotel ist sehr schön gelegen, ruhig und mit einer Fähranbindung nach Hallstadt. Die Zimmer sind klein und zweckmäßig - leider etwas hellhörig. Das Frühstück ist einfach aber man wird satt. Dennoch waren wir vollauf zufrieden. Die Inhaber waren sehr freundlich und haben uns auf Anfrage sogar umgehend zusätzliche Kopfkissen bereit gestellt. Unter Strich würden wir wieder kommen und werden das Hotel auf jeden Fall empfehlen.

Nice staff and clean rooms but the WiFi is horrible and at 3 PM everything shuts down. Only worth it with a water view room.

I stayed at this hotel recently and had a generally positive experience. The location is excellent — just a short walk to the boat that takes you to Hallstatt, which was incredibly convenient. The views from the property are stunning and definitely a highlight of the stay. Walking to the train station took about 7 mins. The room, however, was quite small, especially considering the price I paid. It felt a bit cramped and may not be ideal for those looking for more space or comfort. That said, the owner, Franz-Joseph, was very friendly and welcoming, which added a nice personal touch to the visit. Overall, it's a great spot if you're prioritizing location and scenery.

O lugar é lindo! O que não gostei: o banheiro (vaso sanitário) era fora do quarto. Você precisa sair do quarto para ir ao banheiro. No quarto tinha pia e chuveiro. Mas o vaso era em outro cômodo no corredor. Difícil para fazer xixi a noite. 😏 E isso não constava no ato da reserva.

There is much to recommend this property. The price is good, the location is right on the lake, and there is a ferry that can take you to Hallstatt, which is lovely. It was extraordinarily clean, self check-in was easy, the gentleman at the desk in the morning was friendly and helpful. However, I had a soft mattress and cheap, lumpy pillow, which would keep me from staying there again until they upgrade.

The self check in process was easy and smooth. Highly recommend balcony with lake view! Breakfast was ok - wish there were more options, seemed more scarce compared to other buffets we’ve visited. Only complaint was it was noisy above us, early in the morning … it sounded like someone was moving furniture or something. Would stay here again however, fair price compared to Hallstatt.

The view from our room was perfect. I could have stayed there forever. The wifi is a bit finicky, but wasn't a huge deal for us. The check in and check out process was so easy, and there was great parking just in front of the building.

While the view is spectacular and the area idyllic, the front of house staff leave MUCH to be desired. There was miscommunication on reservations, with cancellations in order to jack up the prices when you try to book again. The guy running the checkout was extremely rude also and frankly should find a new career. I wish I could say I’ll be back, but not with that staff. Save yourself some hassle and get a different stay for Obertraun.

We had a wonderful time in Obertraun at Hotel Haus am See. We will definitely try to stay here again in the future. For prospective guests: staying here is worth it—read the check in details that are sent, ask questions through the message portal on Expedia, and use google translate if you’re struggling. Our experience with the hotel staff was wonderful.

Property is in a great location, Great Lake views and overall condition is fine. There was no staff when we arrived and didn’t see anyone until next morning. Had to call them to request extra pillows (international call charges for me). Towels are old and very used. Property manager was there is the morning for check out, he is very rude. Tried to charge city taxes for 4 people, when we have two children which he should’ve seen when he counted the number of ppl. When reminded he reduced it to 3 people. I asked for a receipt and he scolded “you will only receive a receipt after you pay.” He said this as I was in the process of paying and my credit card was in the reader. I told him that I want the receipt after payment is processed. He says I was being rude…big long stare with his eyes. I know why he was rude to me but don’t want to go there in this post.

The ice cave and five fingers view point are actually located closer to Obertraun than Hallstatt. The self check in is well organized and easy to follow. Franz and his wife (I assume) are very friendly and helpful, particularly in giving details tour information around the area. Small improvements would help the rating of this property. For example, having a couple of proper glasses instead of the extremely fragile plastic cups would not be much cost but much better. I don’t believe there is a garbage bin in the room, although there is the little one in the shower/toilet. Adding a small safe and refrigerator would be more expensive but their long term benefits would be huge for travelers to leave their passports and other valuables in the room, and have a little option for drinks and simple foods giving the local options are so limited in Obertraun.

Everything went smoothly. I got the code for self check-in via comms through Expedia. Seamless. The room was clean, it was walkable to the lake and to the restaurants and train station. Room was on the smaller side, but I have stayed in smaller rooms in other countries. The man at the front desk was friendly and stored our bags. He was gracious when I accidentally took the key with me to Hallstadt after checking out. I was able to return it to him in the afternoon when I returned to pick up the bags. The only snafu was the breakfast. We had 9 a.m. salt mine tix and thought we had to et but the lady at the restaurant told us that we had to catch the bus and there was no taci service in Obertraun. We thought we had to run, but realized we would not make the bus. I called a taxi company that is in the next village over and made arrangements to get picked up 45 minutes later. While I was calling the taxi, the woman at the Restaurant told my daughter she could not eat in a way that my daughter felt was a bit unpleasant. I was able to straighten it out and my daughter ate a light breakfast. The full breakfast is what I expected at a small pension. The woman was pleasant in the afternoon. Since I wasn‘t there I am not sure what had been said, but my mother was Austrian, so I think I may not have taken offense if I had been there. I would stay at Haus am See again.

Everything was fine except the guy at the front had an attitude. He clearly doesn’t like to be there or maybe had a bad day. Just not a good vibe from him. Otherwise everything was good.

The property, although super well located, has a terrible hospitality strategy. I was not aware of the self check in. I never got an email from them. So, I arrived at 11AM and the doors were all locked and the not on the door was only in German. I cannot believe that a hotel in a place filled with Chinese tourists and many other nationals has only signage in German. Then, a hotel worker opened the door but she did not speak any English and after struggling to communicate I had a reservation via google translate, she told me I had to wait outside. Finally, a very friendly older man arrived, some 1.5 later (He worked the front desk and was making breakfast the morning after) and checked me in surprised that I had not received any emails. Despite the views, I would not stay there again.

The only great thing about the room was its balcony and its serene view of the lake. The front desk attendant was racist and very hostile. I just asked for normal black coffee and was ready to pay for it as there aren’t any cafes nearby but I was asked to purchase the whole breakfast buffet. And there is no way coffee was given separately which is such a basic amenity. Location is close to the main area- 5-6 min drive. The room was very basic not many amenities. Another point of concern is safety of the guests as they never asked for our passports to check us in or out or check any identification of the individuals staying. Another one was that how there are misplaced steps on the property which are tripping hazard.

I must express my biggest disappointment in one of the staff members in this hotel. We arrived at the hotel around 5:30pm and did the self-check-in. I went to the front desk the next morning to ask if I needed to fill out any paperwork. I talked to the person (wearing glasses) at the front desk and filled out the paperwork. Then, if he said that you need to pay the parking fee. I just said “oh, it’s not free parking” conversationally because I had been travelling for about 20 days and I had booked many hotels and didn’t remember which hotels provided free parking or not. Unexpectedly, the person stared at me with stone-faced looking and condescending voice asking me “did you read the email? You must read the email we sent now!” He sounded that I didn’t want to pay the parking fee that made feel very frustrated and uncomfortable. I just paid and left. I received an email later from him and blamed me for not reading the email. To make matters worse... Because there was no water pot in our room to make tea or coffee, my wife went to the dining room of the hotel to get some hot water. The same guy, who worked at the front desk also worked in the dining room, told my wife that she was not allowed get hot water because we did not make breakfast reservations. His attitude was cold and rude. I am 68 years old and have travelled to many different countries. Needless to say, this is the worst hospitality service I’ve ever encountered in my life! In my opinion, this individual is not

During my stay at Obertraun. I broke my right elbow. I asked for help at the reception next morning, the lady (I am sorry that I didn’t ask her name at the moment) gave me a very professional first aid, an iced board and bandages to hold my arm and restrained it to movement and also pain killers. Then I was able to travel to Salzburg safely and got X-rays checked and plastered at the Salzburg hospital. Here I would like to express my great gratitude to her.

Hotel was very convenient to train, bus and ferry ststions. Room cleaned daily. Mountain view is magical.

Parfait pour visiter Hallstatt à un prix raisonnable

Situated on Lake Hallstatt with great views of the lake and surround area. Has great access to all transportation to Hallstatt, being right next to to dock and bus station and a scenic 3 mile walk around the lake. This hotel is located next to the Obertraun train station. More calm and less hectic than Hallstatt itself, which is great as Hallstatt is just a quick boat or bus ride away. Staff was very friendly and breakfast was great. Rooms were very clean and a great perk with the balcony. The lakeside patio was an amazing addition to this hotel. Only lower than 5 star rating was the surrounding area which had limited food options...but again, worth is since the area was less crazy with tourists and Hallstatt is easy to get to. Lastly, the price of this place for being right on the lake is unbeatable. Will be staying here again.

Hotel had a beautiful lake view. Close to ferries and train. Easy to get to Hallstatt. Pizzeria Kegalbahn in town is a close walk and has good food. Less expensive than eating in Hallstatt.

Basically you are in one of the most beautiful place in the world with a view of heaven! Amazing place! Pizza place 100 meters away and was pretty good! Breakfast is good. Awesome spot.

Nice beds with an amazing view of lake. This property has one of the best breakfasts and there aren’t a lot of choices in the surrounding area. We visited mid-June and the dock/lake area not set up for summer. There is a beach next to the property. Hallstatt closed at 6 pm. Literally all but one or two restaurants and all the shops closed at 6. Not many options for dinner in Obertraun or Hallstatt. Apparently summer hadn’t yet “started” as the kids weren’t out of school.

The staff was very nice! The breakfast was excellent and the view outside on the lakeside was very beautiful! A little issue getting the check in instructions but that may of been an issue with Expedia. Overall, what an absolutely beautiful view of the lake and mountains right at the lakes edge!

Management was not clear on ordering breakfast and when I tried to verify how, they were extremely rude - incredibly rude and insulting I wish I could upload the conversation... Breakfast was terrible with rotten fruit and stale breads for 18E No AC, no fan. Dingy old pillows Tiny room. I would never recommend this hotel for anything other than location. Location and view were beautiful; those were the only thing we enjoyed about the hotel. Pizzeria near by had fantastic food and service

It was disappointment as we opened the door. Decor was dated, old, the only saving grace was the view. There was no tea/coffee making facility. Cups for brushing were two clear plastic cups. (see picture). We wanted hot water for making cup noodles and we were told we couldn't bring them back upstairs as the owner "did not like the smell". PS: we have a balcony. No floor mats for shower. Soundproofing is poor. We could hear our neighbours chatting and singing loudly upstairs. We didn't take their breakfast but it is severely overpriced for what's on offer. Continental breakfast only. Save your EUR 18 and have a nice big breakfast at a proper breakfast cafe.

The ciew was amazing, it could not be better, even the other lodge/hotels weren't as close to the water as my room's balcony. That being said, the breakfast was a continental style with few options for 18€ per person, which was not worth it.
