View of Capital and Bushnell Park, especially at night was spectacular on the front side of the hotel. Convenience to Bushnell Park and the Hartford Marathon event was excellent. We had difficulty with our keys working properly on Day 2 of our stay but front desk was very helpful with the issue. Parking garage was full and we needed to park nearby. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

We stayed here for an Irish dance competition in Hartford. The property is dated and was right next to the bus station. The underground parking garage wasn't easy to get in and out of with our truck. The staff were very polite and helpful. The bathroom was small, the shower curtain wasn't waterproof, and it took a while for the hot water to warm up. The beds weren't very comfortable. If you need a basic room just to sleep, then this hotel is fine. If you want more amenities, then this isn't the place you'll want to stay.

Hotel in a great position overlooking the park and the Capitol building. Great staff and a very good breakfast offering included in the price. Underground parking a bit tight though.

Hotel was mediocre, the only good thing about it was that the bed and pillows were comfy but the blanket at the end of the bed was dirty, shower was okay however there was only one elevator working for the whole hotel which was really inconvinient especially when you have places to be and you can’t use the stairs unless it’s an emergency? which doesn’t make any sense lol also the parking is horrible they send you down into a tiny tiny parking garage underground with barely any room to fit if you have a large truck you can’t park there also it was $15 which is a rip off. Probably wouldn’t be stay here again next time i’m visiting hartford

Would definitely not suggest staying here. Only one elevator worked and slowly at that. Outdated rooms that were dirty. Bathroom door only closed if you lifted it up and to the left. Dead mosquito squished on the bathroom door. Air conditioner vents filled with rust and debris. Parking lot entrance narrow for only one car, but is two way.

Room was clean, staff was friendly, and at least they had breakfast included. Parking was very limited in their small underground parking garage where they allow you to park for a fee, but was fairly secure. Parking is an issue in the entire downtown area (of course), so if you can, you should try to walk whenever possible or you will pay a lot for parking. It's in a decent location where downtown areas are accessible for the price, but the place is old and needs a lot of work. Pipes are so load, every time the other guest flush they would wake me up. I'm sure I did the same thing others on the floor below me. That kinda sucked.

Front desk attendants were rude, bathroom was not even cleaned prior to us getting there (check in at 3 we got there at 9 so time was not an issue), one elevator worked and stairs didnt lead to other floors so that wasnt an option, you have to pay $15 a night to park because no matter when you ask their garage is “full”.

Not ever staying here again. The bed is so uncomfortable and hard, that would rather sleep on the floor. Rooms and bathroom were small. Had to unplug the HVAC unit bc there was no way to turn it off. Not enough parking in the underground garage they have, which has the tightest spiraling ramp anyways. Breakfast was scheduled until 9am, but they ran out of everything by 830-845am. The only positive thing was our view of the capital building out of our window, which was pretty.

My room was not cleaned promptly. The desk had crumbs, the directory binder was sticky & greasy, and I discovered on my last day that the coffee cups next to the coffee machine was a ready used. The property was quiet, and the breakfast was good though. The in-room microwave & refrigerator was a plus though.

There was hair in the sink, in the shower, and on the towels. The radiator was broken, dusty and moldy. The room was hot, and I could not open the windows. The entire 4th floor smelled like a bad air freshener that was trying to cover up years of cigarette smoke smell. Overall I would not recommend.

Upon arrival at The Capital Ascend hotel there was a guy putting violation tickets on cars in the hotel parking lot.. apparently the parking for hotel is underground and you have to pay $15/day ( I mean literally ninja turtles underground parking)I entered hotel and wasn’t even greeted, the girl at the desk just stared at me and I said I needed to check in. then I gotta pay an extra deposit fee on top of this already being prepaid online.I ask about the XL theater and she tells me she doesn’t know where anything is because she’s not from there.I would assume that you would know of places in the area that draw in customers,but whatever . the hotel is a half hour walk away from our event,ended up having to pay even more for a lyft to get me and my sister to the XL theater for our concert.getting to the room, the door of the room looks battered, like someone at some point might’ve tried to knock it down. entering the room smelled like a gym locker room and air freshener was sprayed to cover up the smell. The bathroom tiles had mold growing on them, and there was a hair on the toilet seat. I immediately contacted Hotels.com ,they claimed they were so sorry for the inconvenience.had to check out early because couldn’t use moldy bathroom shower! Didn’t get the breakfast because nobody told us where to go!! I deserve a refund!! But hotels.com didn’t even give me a partial refund.!!Not booking with hotels.com again!!

This was one of the top 5 worst hotels Ive stayed in. The staff was polite an friendly, but having never been to Ct and not knowing the area, I would never stay here again. The entire 4th floor smelled like wet dog, urine and chemicals. My room smelled even worse. The toilet was and sink were cracked. Everything was very worn and dingy. There was hair in the tub. The carpet was absolutely disgusting. I kept my shoes on the entire time I was in the room. Thankfully, I brought a blanket with me and I slept on top of that my entire stays I was very cold but there was no way I was getting under the covers in that bed.

This property is very run down and needs a good cleaning! There was hair all over our room. It looked as if though the sheets had been used and the bed was just redone. We were woken up at 9:30 by the cleaning lady trying to open our door. She asked check out and I stated not yet since check out is at noon and we we about to head done to the breakfast on the 2nd floor. At 11:30 the cleaning lady again tried to enter our room even when I said we are still in here. I open the door and stated we were about to leave and she just said it time to check out. Not sure why the rush, especially since you can tell they don’t do a very good cleaning or the rooms. I have never felt so yucky at a hotel before

We needed an overnight stay for a wedding. The check in was easy, the room extremely clean. We only stayed the one night but the beds were comfortable. The tv worked fine and check out was easy least. I would definitely stay here again

I traveled to Hartford, CT for business and chose this hotel due to the location of my job. While the location was very close to eateries, a few bars, and easily able to order if I chose not to leave; the hotel itself needs an upgrade in both cleanliness and property upgrades. Upon checking in I was greeted by a pleasant gentleman who quickly checked me in with no problems and assigned my room. But the key card system is outdated and finicky. I had to switch it out twice within my 3 day stay. My room was sloppy and it was apparent the tub had not been cleaned as there was hair in the tub and some film on the sink. I had to purchase some cleaner to do it myself but of course I was a little irritated. The next morning I asked housekeeping for a comforter but she said she didn’t understand me so I used my translator app to assist. She then brings me a sheet and I asked again for something heavier as she continued her conversation but she kept saying she didn’t know what I was asking for. I left it alone and thanked her anyway. The end of the workday I came back to my room and it had not been cleaned or touched by housekeeping which was weird because they were cleaning my floor when I asked for the comforter earlier in the day. Upon showering I noticed again my linen had not been changed out. The next morning the front desk was polite, the morning breakfast was lack luster, and the gym was out of order. Check out process was simple and pleasant.

We loved our room with a view of the lovely 19th C. Capitol building and a snowy Bushnell Park. The hotel is conveniently located for Amtrak travelers & walkable to everything in downtown Hartford. Check out Hartford Stage & the Wadsworth Atheneum if you come to Hartford—both a short walk from the hotel. Also very close: Black Eyed Sally’s Southern Kitchen.

To keep it brief, if you're looking for a place to just hide away for a day or two, this would be the place to go. On average, the place is just say renovated Red roof inn (literally) with different color schemes. Halls are very cramped and obviously very close corridors. To say this place has thin walls would be an understatement. Upon checking in I couldn't even access the Wi-Fi. If you can manage to handle the train station next to the hotel, it should be a halfway decent experience in the end.
To keep it brief, if you're looking for a place to just hide away for a day or two, this would be the place to go. On average, the place is just say renovated Red roof inn (literally) with different color schemes. Halls are very cramped and obviously very close corridors. It's and old hotel, showing its age. The breakfast coffee machine, for example, broke, forcing a trip down to the lobby for each cup. But the view of the Capitol was magnificent. As with many more modern hotels, there were no good reading places or comfortable chairs, and the flimsy plastic cups wrapped in plastic, are all you can get.

Not ever staying here again. The bed is so uncomfortable and hard, that would rather sleep on the floor. Rooms and bathroom were small. Had to unplug the HVAC unit bc there was no way to turn it off. Not enough parking in the underground garage they have, which has the tightest spiraling ramp anyways. Breakfast was scheduled until 9am, but they ran out of everything by 830-845am. The only positive thing was our view of the capital building out of our window, which was pretty.

Owner of this place was very rude, well at least that’s what he said that he was the owner. He completely ignored me when I got there to check in. Checking lady refused to check me in. Please refund me. I had to go to another hotel and pay last minute feed for a room because of this, it ended adding around $500 to my trip. Was the worse experience I ever had traveling.

This was one of the worst stays at a hotel that I've had. I was staying tWo nights here because of how close it was to Hartford hospital and the reviews I read seemed to be good. I got in Thursday night and there was no one at the reception desk. The receptionist was sitting in a corner with a blanket and shouted over "can I help you?" And when I said I was checking in, that's when she got up. As she is checking me in I tell her not to charge the card I booked with (I selected to pay at the hotel so I could use a different card) because I had a different card i wanted to use. Im not sure what happend but by the next day I had the full amount charged to the card I didnt want charged and then a hold on the card I wanted used. When I went down to tell her this she tried saying it was another workER and I had to remind her she checked me in the night before. She told me the manager would be working the next day and he could fix the issue because she didnt know how. The manager was not in before I had to leave but the other employee (Hasani) who was there was super kind and tried helping but it was too late to switch things with having it be a long process. Very inconvenient. The room had a horrible mildew smell to it and you could see that the AC unit desperately needed to be cleaned on the inside. However without the unit on the smell got worse. Overall the room was okay once you got past the smell. The room card stopped working many times and had to be fixed. 4/10

I enjoyed my stay here, but I found the only inconvenience was having to pay $15 a day for parking. It’s in a very convenient location in downtown Hartford, right across the street from the train station. It is a very clean property, and the staff went above and beyond during my entire experience with them. I interacted with the general manager on several locations due to my bank, not releasing my incidental fee. This had nothing to do with the Capitol Hotel itself, but with my bank solely. The general manager went above and beyond to ensure that everything that I needed was provided and was very helpful in that process. They have a very nice breakfast in the morning, and the beds were comfortable. We had an excellent view of the Capitol from our room, and all around it was a great experience. P. S. If you are looking to go out for a drink, the best place in Hartford is Little River Restorative on Capitol Ave less than 5 min from the hotel. The staff and the atmosphere is top-notch and the bartender are great! Highly recommend

Front desk attendants were rude, bathroom was not even cleaned prior to us getting there (check in at 3 we got there at 9 so time was not an issue), one elevator worked and stairs didnt lead to other floors so that wasnt an option, you have to pay $15 a night to park because no matter when you ask their garage is “full”.

The building is a bit older but solid and quiet. We were right next to the elevator and never heard it. The breakfast was first-class and this was on Christmas morning! We had the same staff person check us in on Christmas eve and out on Christmas morning but she was cheerful and helpful. The parking isn't free but it is right under the building.

We loved our room with a view of the lovely 19th C. Capitol building and a snowy Bushnell Park. The hotel is conveniently located for Amtrak travelers & walkable to everything in downtown Hartford. Check out Hartford Stage & the Wadsworth Atheneum if you come to Hartford—both a short walk from the hotel. Also very close: Black Eyed Sally’s Southern Kitchen.

This hotel is in a great location - close to the train station and across from the city's central park - with stunning views of the capitol buildings. It has a decent breakfast included as well as in-room coffee. The building itself is aging and has some clearly deferred maintenance issues, such as the leaky shower head in our room. But it was clean and the front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

Beware, the parking lot behind the hotel is not well marked and I got an $88 ticket. Look carefully at the small signs and double check with staff about where to park! The hotel itself was lovely and clean, and being right across the street from Bushnell Park was great for taking my dog out.

Very nice hotel. Nice room. All as expected. Very convenient location. Hotel and neighborhood were very clean. Mostly 5 star rating but gave 4 stars as did not feel entirely safe in the vicinity of the hotel. Had business nearby at the government building and felt there were some folks that did not make me feel entirely safe, as they were driving cars with blacked out windows and kept driving round and round the block. This is not the hotel's fault but I would have felt safer with more police presence. Also, there was an ever present scent of cannabis in the air and albeit it may be legalized now it still leaves one weary of the intentions of who is using it. My hotel room was great and had a great view of the park and I did a lot people watching from the window, from where I noticed a lot of loiterers below and trash can scavengers. Again, not the hotel's fault, rather Hartford's.

The hotel itself was nice, clean ( bonus : pet-friendly !) and located very close to the Bushnell park where I attended a music festival, therefore convenient. And the price was right ! The staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the area close to the hotel was a bit shady, I was very concerned while I walked my dog, not even going very far from the hotel.

Staff was friendly and location is perfect. Rooms were clean even though hotel is old and need some renovation. Sink in the bathroom wasn't functioning properly and the buthtub as well had leakages. Overall for one night it was good. As I saw on the lower floor they started renovations. Breakfast is simple but good as well. Rooms are clean.

The free breakfast was great - eggs, toast, cereal, yoghurt and the very popular waffle maker! The room was clean and comfortable. The hallway and room smelled like cleaning solution but it was easy to get used to. The location is fabulous - right next to the train station and across the street from the state capitol and park.

I traveled to Hartford, CT for business and chose this hotel due to the location of my job. While the location was very close to eateries, a few bars, and easily able to order if I chose not to leave; the hotel itself needs an upgrade in both cleanliness and property upgrades. Upon checking in I was greeted by a pleasant gentleman who quickly checked me in with no problems and assigned my room. But the key card system is outdated and finicky. I had to switch it out twice within my 3 day stay. My room was sloppy and it was apparent the tub had not been cleaned as there was hair in the tub and some film on the sink. I had to purchase some cleaner to do it myself but of course I was a little irritated. The next morning I asked housekeeping for a comforter but she said she didn’t understand me so I used my translator app to assist. She then brings me a sheet and I asked again for something heavier as she continued her conversation but she kept saying she didn’t know what I was asking for. I left it alone and thanked her anyway. The end of the workday I came back to my room and it had not been cleaned or touched by housekeeping which was weird because they were cleaning my floor when I asked for the comforter earlier in the day. Upon showering I noticed again my linen had not been changed out. The next morning the front desk was polite, the morning breakfast was lack luster, and the gym was out of order. Check out process was simple and pleasant.

Great location near the train and bus station; 2 minute walk and close to downtown for happy hour. While the decor is dated; the room was big with drawers, a closet with hangers and not hipster. It isn't a vacay hotel but it is certainly a location place. Breakfast was as good as most 3 star hotels.
