In a very one road small town feel way this is very conveniently located down the road from a couple of restaurants and stores. The grounds are very pretty and peaceful. There was the addition of very sweet unexpected surprises including a bonfire, live music, and smores provided by the hotel for all guests to enjoy.

Much of the property is under construction. Main dining room was closed for remodeling. Our room was spacious and clean but was tired dated, and overpriced for the accommodations.

The room was great, and the grounds were nice. I wasn't happy that the website had no mention of the dining room not being available and that the pool and hot tub were not open. The dining room with its great view were a prime reason that I booked the reservation in the first place.

We took a carriage ride. Restaurant on the grounds. Music. Pool. Free popsicles

Room was as pictured. However there was no WiFi and the images on the television were very grainy. When I called on multiple occasions about the WiFi I could never connect with anyone. They also were doing renovations which caused my vehicle to get very muddy. I believe it could have been better but I don’t think I’ll ever stay there again.

The property was under construction. All the animals in the petting zoo had been relocated, so that wasn't an option. In our "luxury" accommodations, the telephone didn't work, and the light fixtures were broken.

This property is under a masive construction project. Limited views. Temp checkin. Parking tight.

Room was very spacious, comfortable and clean. But because this property is currently being remodeled and under construction at many areas of the common parts of the property, I feel the rates are way over priced at this time. Breakfast looked delicious on the website but did not meet quality expectations and lacked healthy options. The new fire pit was amazing but that was all we truly enjoyed about our stay. Once the construction is complete, the property will be a much better choice.

Me and my Boyfriend was very disappointed staying there. We were expecting to relax. But when we come in our room they was a stink bug on the ceiling,ants all over the bathroom floor,im very allergic to them ,a spider in the bathtub, and also the toilet kept running. My boyfriend fixed it. I told the staff when i checked out but they didnt seem to care. And also got woken up around 7 a.m. by some rail buggies cranking up over and over and the ladies in the next room who were very loud talking ,laughing, making loud noises at 745 a.m. Just wasnt satissfied at all. But its very pretty inside and out.

I thought it was a beautiful location, clean room but there is a problem with ants. It’s an older facility that needs some upgrades, including replacing very old carpet but mostly the property needs attention to detail with getting rid of the ant problem. The Restaraunt was inviting and warm but overpriced for type of food. Overall it was a good stay for what we needed, compared to other hotels in this area. This place could be a real gem with a bit of renovation. Stunning location with gorgeous views, set off the main drag it was very quiet and relaxing.

Rooms were very nice and clean. Beds are very comfortable. Staff was very friendly. The restaurant manager found out that I had to get up and leave my Christmas Eve dinner due to being sick, he not only did not charge for my food but he sent me a plate with some other food and even ginger ale. I was very appreciative of that kindness.

Beautiful property grounds, rooms a little dated but very large and clean

Room was clean and spacious. Breakfast was delicious, but I was disappoionted that I could not take my unfinished items with me. I was told there were no boxes to be able to do so.

The staff were all friendly, and this is in a safe area with some scenic surroundings. The issues far outweighed the nice features, though. Good qualities included nice folks at check-in, clean bedding and towels, nice-white comforter and comfortable mattress. The back balcony (shared balcony with full row of rooms) in the luxury valley view area has a lovely morning view - trees, elevation, a small pond and plenty of pleasant birds in the trees. Issues included dozens of insects (two types of ants, earwigs, small flies, beetles) and arachnids (three types of spiders, and centipedes) invade the bathroom at dark - some making their way down the hallway to the master suite. Add to that worn furniture (some tears and stains) poor cleaning - mopping does not get the corners, and intense smoky odor (someone likely put the fireplace on at some time and didn't use the fan - but it was challenging on the sinuses). I tried to pretend I was camping and curled up in my sleeping bag on the bed... not restful. They can fix this, and I hope they do. The property itself has so much potential, and they were nice. The fella was not surprised when I mentioned a bug issue when checking out. At almost $300 a night - AVOID (at least until they hire a real exterminator and clean).

It’s an older property with renovations on the way. Everyone was friendly, rooms were dated but kept very clean and comfortable.

Everything was clean and as expected. It is an old hotel, and nothing like a new hotel experience. Just the basics in a beautiful area.

We booked a room through hotels.com for last night Saturday, Oct 11 through this morning, Oct 12. I always had enjoyed coming to the Dillard House and eating lunch there 15-20 years ago and watch the deer come up to the window. As I understand alot has changed since then and we believed we were staying at a stellar place, which this was not. It felt like we were in a Days Inn or even worst. We stayed in the Blue Ridge rooms and they were the most outdated and we felt like we were in a time warp. When we walked in the room, my wife wanted to walk out. We paid $300 for this and if we could have gotten a refund we would. These are the things that were wrong with the room - Dead Bug on the wall. -Live Bug on the wall. The management did come in and get them. -The bathroom sink had no stopper to it and there was a toothpaste cap and something else logged in the drain. -The room was musty. -The TV did not work half of the time. -The bathroom mat in the shower was glued to the floor. -The light, fan switch, and the dimmer were very old in the bathroom along with the tile and tub and fixtures. -The chandelier in the middle of the room was from the 40s. It seemed that nothing has been updated in the room since it was built in the 60 - 70. It was a waste of money and we would like to be refunded. We will not been staying there again or recommend it to anyone. I believe we were taken advantage us for hotels.com for recommending this place.

We booked two rooms—for my family and my parents—for two nights, and from the start it was far from the level of hospitality this place is known for. Room Issues: There were bugs in our room, and we had no hot water the first night. People from the adjacent rooms came to us asking if we were having the same issues. My Parents’ Room Was Emptied Mid-Stay: After the 1st night, housekeeping cleared out my parents’ room assuming they had checked out—threw away my mom’s coffee from the fridge. I think they were hoping to give the room to someone else even though we paid for both nights and did not check out. False Promises for the Kids: When we checked in, staff told us there would be campfire and games the 2nd night. There were flyers posted everywhere, and my kids were excited. We cut our time short in Highlands and rushed back early to make it—only to show up to pitch black, no games, no fire, nothing. When we called to ask, all we got was “sorry” with no explanation and no effort to make it right. I brought up all of this to the front desk and nothing was done. I work in construction—I understand renovations and logistics—but this wasn’t about that. This was poor hospitality and no regard for guests’ experience. This stay was not what I was expecting from a place built its reputation for hospitality. Unfortunately, we will not be staying again.

Great food! Close to Highlands and Clayton (great shopping). Rooms were outdated, drapes broken, light bulbs burned out, dated furnishings. Bathroom desperately needs remodeling.

The bed was comfy and the room was clean. The room was dated but it did have a microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker. It’s in the country so you dont have to worry about a bad neighborhood. It’s a motel not a resort and they are remodeling so it’s a bit noisy. you park right at your room door so it is convenient and it’s not a roach motel but it is a bit pricy for what you get.

Rooms were large and clean. Best part great porch looking over mountains.

It was a great secluded location, not far off the main road. Room was like a one bedroom apartment almost. Value was excellent. We had an end room, with fireplace, big common area back rocking chair porch. It had an efficiency kitchen with table and chairs. Large bathroom, updated walkin shower and a jacuzzi tub with another shower. I would only suggest freshing up the decor. Ditch the dated (but not dirty)gold carpet for lvp flooring first! Furniture was nice mohagany and with a freshing up of the decor I would give this place a 10. We enjoyed this spacious unit. I would highly recommend. There was no working ice machines and I expect they were turned off due to freezing temps.

Much needed renovations are underway. The rooms are circa 1980. On the positive side, Highlands room 181 is HUGE. Quiet location. Room 151 was smaller and musty. Both were reasonably clean. The restaurant is a nice in concept, all you can eat family-style, but the breakfast meats were very poorly prepared- rare bacon, over cooked sausage, breaded dried out pork tenderloin. $25 per person and as a family of 4 we ate maybe $20 worth of food total. At $25 per person, the food should be stellar and more imaginative. For the price of the room, it would have helped my rating if the breakfast was included. The staff at motel and restaurant were all very friendly. Great location. The horse farm was lovely, as were the views.

The pictures they have posted on the site is not how the rooms exactly looked. Needs up dating. You couldn't use the fireplace unless you had the fan on. It was so loud you couldn't enjoy it. Needs new carpet and curtains.

Great place to stay . I would definitely stay again although I was displeased with their lack of knowledge regarding hotels.com. I reserved this room for my daughter a break(she has a mentally handicapped child and was in need of a break). I paid as I usually do when I reserve the room. When my daughter checked in, the payment at time of reservation, could not be acknowledged by the staff. I had to give a credit/debit card for incidentals which is customary and was assured that I would not be charged. Staff stated they were new to hotels.com but she would get straight. After my daughter checked out and got home, I checked my banking account. The amount of the room was charged again to the debit card that I gave her for incidentals. I called the motel and spoke with Katie. I told her the issue…..she assured me she would look into this and return my call the next day. I never received a call. I had to again call the motel. They never acknowledged their mistake instead saying oh, it was customary and that this was not a real charge. It should be returned to my account within seven days. If it wasn’t a real charge, it wouldn’t be listed on my account as a charge. I’m hoping I get the money back.

This is an honest rating and it considers the construction under way. Once complete, this place will be incredible. We were very satisfied with our stay even with the construction underway, but we are looking forward to staying again when it is completed! Great staff, conveniently located. We will definitely be back!

1st,it looks much better online that it actually is in person. It is run down. 2nd, I am now fighting an unauthorized charge for almost $300 the office made to my account they deny when the charge clearly says it is from The Dillard House. The farm itself is a bit scenic, yet I would never stay there again.

The property is in complete disarray in the middle of renovation. We were put in a dilapidated old building that was so bad from the outside we didn’t even want to go into the room. Staff was less than helpful. Nowhere on their website do they describe the property as being anything other than lovely and charming. They would not give us a full refund either. Horrible experience for New Years Eve. Luckily we found a wonderful hotel in downtown Clayton.

I arrived after dark and the lights hadn't come on outside yet. I had never sta it ef before, so I was a little discombobulated. The front desk person (I forgot her name sorry, (9-18-3025) but she was phenomenal. No matter what I brought to her, she met me with kindness, concern, and solutions. I finally settled in snd slept great. Thank you for helping me feel comfortable.

wonderful staff

Even though the property was under construction, the room and service was very good. Staff fr I endly and helpful. Was upgraded to a room on other side of property away from the construction. Property is beautiful, views stunning, service was good! Loved my experience.

We really enjoyed ourselves for the weekend. Looking for a girls weekend trip and this will be perfect for us. The staff was friendly and helpful ; Dave gave us a rundown on the renovations and istened to ideas we had on leaving certain things in the room for that home feel. The location was great!

Very nice quiet unique property. Spacious rooms with nice deck. Property under construction so some amenities were not available. Overall a very nice stay.

Overall a solid place to stay for the price. I came here as a kid 30 years ago and not much has changed. They definitely need a revamp but it looks like that's happening. Beautiful scenery and great flea markets and shops nearby.

charming town, many fun shops and a few good places to eat big flea market on week-ends beautiful surroundings. two other great towns {Highlands N.C. & Franklin } within 30 min. we drive around and enjoy every place. must visit Julep farms a few miles down the road. great place to eat out on the veranda.

It has a lot of history but rooms are outdated, property has a lot of construction. Food at the restaurant was mediocre at best. Meal supposed to have fried chicken, ribs and ham. Chicken was great but ribs were replaced with the worst pork chops I’ve ever had and was told they were out of ham. Still charged us $60 for 2 people. Food was meh.

They have alot of remodeling going on. Had to wait in line to pay for our food about 30 minutes or more. They've went up on the meals there , give you less food and want let you take a doggie bag home. $ 30.oo for dinner and no doggie bag. Want eat there again.

We missed the memo that they were undergoing major construction but still had a great time! The property is beautiful, rooms were clean, and we had some great meals at the restaurant with great service. Can’t wait to come back once renovation is complete!

Vary nice for the price. Under construction, but spending $$ to make it a real show place. Ate at restaurant, all you could eat and excellent. Tip- go hungry!

We were there for just one night not much to say but would have liked more updates in room.

We had a wonderful day. Even though there was construction going on, they upgraded us to a cottage far away so we had peace and quiet and a beautiful view. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was fabulous.!
