Metro Plaza Hotel

Property was under remodel and the ice machine on our floor wasn’t working.

The property, while conveniently located, was run-down and dirty. Also, the hotel did not have advertised amenities- breakfast, pool, laundry.

Pros: Location near Union Station convenient to trains and subway. Not expensive. Cons: Construction going on, so no on-site continental breakfast. Carpets are dirty. Some rooms have been partially updated, but work is very shoddy. Property is noisy with lots of street noise.

No deposit! $5 to park your car but parking lot has a security guard and locked 24/7. You can come in and out the guard will open the gate no matter how late. Booked a two beds room, more spacious than expected from seeing pictures online. Very clean bathrooms, beds, everything!

Disappointed that the fitness center and breakfast was not available and the floor was being remolded at the time. Would have liked to know that in advance.

Spacious room with tv, fridge, and safe. Unfortunately, there is no coffee maker in the room and the breakfast room has been eliminated. The bathroom is likewise roomy. I have chosen this hotel multiple times because of its closeness to Union Station, LA public transportation, and the Music Center

I booked Metro Plaza for 3 nights. Read a bunch of reviews so I felt I had a good understanding of the hotel. We arrived early and was able to check-in on a Saturday before the official 3pm. It was a breeze & got in our room fast. We had a car so they charged us $5/day upfront & i put a little ticket on my dash before we went up to the room. Props to the parking attendants, they were very happy & quick to usher you to a spot. My request for a room on the 4th floor on back side of hotel was not granted. Instead, we got a room on the 3rd floor next to the housekeeping room. I was debating on changing rooms after the first night as it was a bit loud with the housekeepers conversations & noise from the washing machines/dryers, but it was somewhat tolerable. Conversation & some noises would start about 8am. That was on me for not changing room, but most of the time, we were out & about until evening when they went home anyways. It seemed as if the room was upgraded as there was new bed frames, desks & updated bathroom w/tile. It would have been nice to have a desk seat, but there were a couple of short ottomans instead. Shower water pressure was low, but able to get hot water if you barely cracked the faucet in the shower & rain shower felt like it was gently raining; would have been nice if it was more pressure, but was able to get hot showers every night. We need up booking Metro Plaza because we were going to a concert at LA State Historic park. Walk was a breeze.

Remodeling was nice where completed. Need to finish the rest. Security was good.

A great location for Little Tokyo and Chinatown. Affordable with few amenities but the basics are there, fridge only, no coffee maker but hot water by the elevator next to the ice machine. Parking is Very convenient, a short walk to the elevator and you are at your room. Renovation in process but no noise while we were there.

Convenient to metro, parking option next to hotel, hospitable staff, clean rooms, air conditioning in room and lobby. Though no air conditioning in the hallway, no vending machines or ice machines but overall a good experience each time I stay there.

The hotel was very run-down and dirty when we stayed. A window was broken and covered with plywood, the carpets were dirty, and the hot water was barely working. I would not recommend staying at this hotel.

Nice and convenient if you want to stay near Chinatown/Union Station. All of Chinatown is within walking distance and the area didn't feel dangerous even at night (but use caution at night just like any city). Union Station was also within walking distance, which made it very convenient to use Flyaway to/from LAX and the Dodger express to the stadium. The room I stayed in was newly renovated so it was pretty nice, but the hallways and common areas were rundown and dirty. I believe they're going through renovations though. Also, I stayed a Saturday and Sunday night, and both nights there was loud music coming from down the street all night long. I think it was from the Korean bbq place around the corner. It was annoying so if you're a light sleeper make sure to bring earplugs. There was no breakfast, but just down the street is Philippe's, which was very good. There was also a mini fridge in the room but no microwave, which I thought was odd. Overall a good place to sleep if you're coming in for an event at the stadium.

A sign in the elevator states ongoing construction..from 2023. Room is very run down. Carpet had nunerous stains. Shower was by far the oddest running shower Ive ever been in. The tub is a very steep step over to enter with no bar to aid older folks. I highly do not recommended this hotel.

The staff we great, the room was clean, the tiles in the bathroom were held together by masking tape, the hotel is very dated.

We have stayed here three times prior and each time it was shabbier and dirtier with less amenities. It seemed the sheets had been washed in a very harsh detergent that tended to burn your skin after a while. The walls are thin and I had to call the front desk to get the people next door to quiet down so we could sleep. There appears to be a lot of construction going on but from the front steps to our room it was shabby. The remote on the TV didn’t work the price is attractive but it’s over priced for what you get. We won’t be stayin there in the future.

Hotel stay was really good for what we needed. Went to dodger game and with the Union Station being across the street, it was perfect! Shuttle bus takes you to game and brings you back. Again, for our stay it was perfect. Area is in Chinatown, got some cool hole in the wall spots! My only issue was that a cockroach (our last night, about to shut off the lights to head to bed) went flying around our room at 11:54pm. Had to use ice bucket to trap it after trying a handful of times. Called maintenance in to get it out, I wanted to make sure that we documented this unfortunate incident. My partner, step son and I had a hard time sleeping after this. Other than this incident, we had a pleasant stay. I was told to reach out to hotels.com by the front desk of this hotel, which I'm going to do here after this review.

Spotless and courteous so very kind best experience ever in a hotel

Pretty rough...very outdated and not very clean.

This place probably had better years in the 60s and 70s, but it was still a steal of a deal being so close to Union Station. Quick ride to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl and the FlyAway bus to and from LAX Beds were a little tough and the property was just dated in general. Carpet outside of the elevators looked like it hadn’t been cleaned since the Nixon Administration. Stay away from the second floor or else.

The first night of our stay, an adult cockroach approximately 1.5-inch (3.7 cm) long crawled into our bathroom and onto a toothbrush and other toilet articles that were on the counter by the basin. We were able to trap the insect in a Ziploc bag and give it to the front desk staff. It was gross. On the positive side, the bedroom and bathroom appeared clean and orderly. The beds were neatly made, and the room-cleaning personnel were courteous and friendly. A spot-check under our mattresses showed no signs of bedbugs. The front desk permitted early check-in. At night, a guard kept watch in the lobby, and there were no homeless people anywhere near the front door. The hotel is within a block or two of some good eating establishments. Room furnishings were minimal: 2 queen beds, a desk, and two small poufs but no chairs. The carpet of the waiting room outside the third-floor elevator had been removed. Overall, the accommodations seemed consistent with the price per night. We liked the price and the clean appearance of the room; however, we might not stay at the hotel again because of the cockroach that came into the bathroom.

This hotel is across the street from LA's Union Station and a very easy walk to the Philippe's Sandwich shop with the French onion dip beef sandwiches. I'm told lots of folks that attend Dodgers games stay here. I took the FlyAway bus from LAX ($12.75) then walked over from the train station. I was due to catch an Amtrak train the next day and this was the closest hotel to the station. The downstairs lobby is very basic and utilitarian. The desk attendant got me checked in quickly. The hotel is definitely worn, but they seem to be doing some cosmetic upgrades. I had a 3rd floor room with a king bed that included a small fridge, iron, hair dryer, and some toiletries (soap/shampoo). The TV had all the standard cable channels. The bathroom shower was upgraded with a glass enclosure and rain shower head. When I got off the elevator on the 3rd floor there was an ice machine and a water cooler to fill up my water bottle. For what I paid, it was well worth it and so convenient to get to the train station. If you need an economical place to crash, this place will certainly do.

Hotel is good as long as you remember how much you spent. Hotel is outdated and bed was very hard and loud, but hotel was very clean, quiet and staff was very friendly. Super close to Union station and there are several restaurants less than half a mile away. Area felt pretty safe, especially for LA. I was even able to check in 3 hours early. Hotel is fine if you just need to crash for the night but probably not for extended stay.

Huge rooms. Very convenient for Union station. Staff are helpful.

Convenient place to stay near the train station. This hotel is dated but clean. There were not enough outlets, so charging devices was hard. I would have liked a coffee maker in the room. The bed was clean and comfortable.

If your entire stay is based wholly on the employees then this place is five stars. Taking other things into account, I've stayed in worse for more $$. The room was clean but everything is old and worn down. My room appeared to have had the door kicked in at some point based on the 'attempt' to re-attach the chain lock. The bed was enough to fall asleep but the mattress, at the least, needs replaced. I felt safe the whole time I was there and it felt ok to use, touch, etc things in the room. TL;DR I am on a solo train trip and needed a place near Union station to stay the night for my train the next day. If you have similar plans Metro was perfect.

Very quick check in. Comfortable bed and great hot shower! Good fridge but no kettle or crockery to make a cup of tea. Going through refurbishment but little noise heard. Noisy air conditioning as old unit. Staff were very helpful when assistance requested. Would stay again.

Overall I had a pleasant stay. The room was clean and had all the essentials and having two queen beds was nice. The staff was very helpful too. I didn't particularly like the shower design as it had no place to set my soap. Also the car horns and exhausts outside were very noisy although I don't blame the hotel for that.

The staff was friendly but the beds were very old and uncomfortable—like sleeping in a bowl.

Decent location if you plan on using public transportation for your stay - within minutes of union station, which is a main stop for trains and buses. Other stations also very close. Hotel itself needs a little love and a bit of a makeover HOWEVER, the staff is REALLY great and my room was clean. Air conditioner worked really well. When I arrived, the safe in my room wasn’t working and the staff sent an extremely kind and polite service person to fix it VERY quickly. All my interactions with the staff were great.

We stayed here for a baseball trip. It was easy to walk to Dodger Stadium. It was a five minute walk to Union Station to take the metro to Anaheim for an angels game. The staff was courteous and helpful.

Friendly staff, easy checkin. We were able to leave a baggage at the front desk before check-in and after checkout. They are going through a renovation but noises and dust was very minimal.

Hotel staff very kind and accommodating. Fixed our shower promptly. Good location for our needs this trip. Happy for low parking fee during our stay.

Not the best area but convenient for the ballpark

Very convenient location. About 10-20 min walk to Little Tokyo or Chinatown. Free parking is a pleasant surprise. Hotel is a little older but clean and convenient. Its not luxurious like with breakfast, amenities but the price, safety and some cleanliness is the point. We attended a political rally and this was perfect. Reasonable price.

It was close to the L.A. Union Station, Phillippe sandwiches, and other restaurants at Olivera Street. However, I'd like it better if they'd bring back the continental breakfast section, have the rooms a little warmer, and have better working T.V. remotes.

The property is old and outdated. I had only one washcloth in my room and it was dirty from a prior visitor. The remote control was sticky and barely worked. The room has cable TV and refrigerator. Coffee in lobby. No breakfast because they are doing renovations. Good location only because it's next to a transit center.food options are limited,

They are under renovation. So some places are clean and new and others are dirty and aged. Over all, I'm satisfied with this hotel as female solo travelor. It's very convenient for transportation. Union station for Hollywood and Santa Monica visiting. Free Dash bus to downtown. I could teach those stop within 5-8min walk. And Fly Away bus from LAX airport to Union station. 5 min walk to CVS pharmacy and small market on the ground floor. Some homeless guys walking around in the evening but there were at least one security 24 hours at reception. Thats good. When I got there, the third floor aisle smelled tabacco but inside of room was very clean and no bad smell. Very big room for single travelor. Bathroom was very new and clean. There were two types of soaps and shampoo with condutioner. Water dispenser near the elevator. Free coffee at reception. Cons: no kleenex in the hotel room. No hot water kettle and no microwave oven. I stayed three night. Last day, fourth day, i checked at 9am and browsed the city until my Fly Away bus departure. Till then, they kept my luggage safely for free.
