It's really a motel and the desk clerk was very friendly. The room was very clean but needed updating. The comforters were polyester and kind of icky, although clean. I just think for the price we paid, which was comparable to other budget hotels in the Chicago area, that they could upgrade and it would make a big difference. We only needed to stay there for one night because we were dropping off our son to college, as we're other guests. It was very close to the college, which was convenient. It's also very close to Clark St., which has a lot of great restaurants and we found two within a mile that were excellent. The neighborhood immediately around the the motel was a little rough, and a little loud at night, but overall it suited our needs. They do have parking which is free and very convenient. They also have breakfast, which I believe is complimentary, but we had other plans for breakfast so we didn't get a chance to check it out.

Like a lot of reviews mentioned it is outdated, little to no amenities. A little scetchy about cleanliness, but ok for the price. Lots of lighting in car park which was good. Staff could be more welcoming. Clerk at check in was very rude and short of patience. But overall ok for the price. Not noisy. Ease of getting Uber/lyft.

We've stayed at this motel about a dozen times now. The rooms are always clean (which has not been the case at more expensive hotels lately). The free in-and-out parking can't be beat in Chicago. There are plenty of nice cafes/bars/restaurants nearby. And the staff has been gracious enough to check us in early several times, as we're often there for a Cubs day game and need to park early. The convenience and cleanliness can't be beat for the price.

Overall an average stay. Comfy enough, ended up being put in a different room than we booked since they didn’t have any nonsmoking double beds rooms left. Breakfast was basically nonexistent which wasn’t a big deal. Just know there’s only cereal and oatmeal lol Bed was fine, tv worked and bathroom got the job done. The free parking was very nice! Kind of just a sketchy vibe since it’s a motel but safe enough! Got what we paid for and we’re happy about that :)

A good location at a great price and free parking. Staff is nice too. You can easily get the Red line, the Clark bus and the Metra so you can get around the city with no problem. The hotel was clean and the beds & bath are fine. It gets a little noisy in the morning, but its Chicago, Thats to be expected.

This is a no-frills motel. It was probably built in the 1950s as a roadside motel and the decor has been maintained. A very clean property, and parking is free and inside the motel courtyard - a wonderful convenience as parking in Chicago can be a nightmare. Starbucks and White Castle are close by, and the nearby Andersonville neighborhood has a lot of nice restaurants and stores. Again, if you are looking for plush towels, Egyptian cotton sheets, and other nice amenities this probably isn't the place for you. But, if you are looking for a cozy, clean room in a safe neighborhood give this a shot.

Paper thin walls next to a busy street. Outdated, decor. Bedspreads made of sandpaper, cardboard sheets, lumpy ancient mattress, flat foam pillows. Spiders in the bathroom, though otherwise clean. Musty smells everywhere. This place had great reviews and it seems like it must have been a scam. Way overpriced for what it is.

We were in need of a safe, clean spot to rest for night in Chicago that didn't break the bank. Looking around at other options, we saw rooms going for $300 and up, which was crazy for a bed and shower. Then we saw The Heart O' Chicago for a much more reasonable amount and took a chance. It exceeded all expectations. I would stay here again without question.

We had a great stay. It was just for 1 night after a concert at Wrigley Field. Heart O Chicago is an older hotel but it was very clean and close to public transportation. If your not familiar with big city neighborhoods you may say the neighborhood is bad but it's truly not. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat

Property is old which is fine, but the front desk was extremely slow, did not have my reservation, then did everything through paperwork and file folders so it took a while. The room had no heat. When I reported it, I was told that none of the units had heat or cooling. It is 40 degrees at night and the room opens directly onto the street so heat should be available.

Overall, the place was ok. It was safe and very clean, though old style. The worst thing was there was a constant noise every morning around 4 am just outside the window of my room from someone loading heavy stuff on a truck or something. It was very loud. Every night it woke me up around that time. I stayed for 6 nights and didn’t have a good sleep even for one night. Other than that the place was clean with very basic things. I think it was a bit expensive for the overall experience. Later, I found that I could have rented a 1 bed apartment with all amenities for the same price.

Walking into my room was like walking into a typical movie set. The room as spacious, smelled nice and as clean and organized. It's location leads itself to a loud outside and the blackout curtains did help with the morning light.

Was going to give the property just two stars, but they’re in the middle of a slight remodel (not sure if the extent but we got a new tv in the room during our stay), so I feel like maybe I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt that it’ll be less mediocre. That said, it’s about as low tech as you can get it the 21st century. The WiFi network didn’t even connect in our room. Old fixtures in the bathroom. No USB plugs. Just kinda meh, and the price reflects that.

A cheap motel, but convenient for when we need to stay in this area. Nothing bad, but nothing fancy. Tiny towels in the bathroom, no refrigerator or microwave. Nothing updated or upgraded (except a flatscreen tv) since the 1950s it would seem.

The hotel room had only one window and it directly faced a walkway for other people staying at the hotel. The choice of either privacy or daylight. It would’ve been nice to have a share curtain so you could still have daylight and privacy. The air conditioner did not seem to work during my stay.

While I understand this is a motel $150 a night is still too much to pay. The A/C wasn’t turned on - apparently they control it - and it was near 80 degrees so very uncomfortable - front desk very unhelpful and could not even produce a bill or charges.

I've stayed here multiple times, and would return again. Lovely staff, clean old school rooms, and walkable. If you're looking for more bells and whistles (there's no fridge, pool, or Netflix), this place isn't for you. But if want a place that feels like it's run by family, give it a try.

The manager at the front desk was very professional and accommodating. He helped me a lot during my stay and I am very grateful to him for that. The hotel was very clean. great location. Great pricing. will definitely stay there again!

Mr Zone was the most helpful front desk clerk I have had the pleasure of working with. From Paris to London to Tokyo, nobody had set a standard like Mr Zone. He left no question unanswered and turned a long and frustrating day into a calming experience that set the tone for my evening stay in Chicago. This unassuming, historic, and quaint motel should be on anyone’s bucket list in Andersonville.

It was a convenient location for what we wanted. The cleaning staff was very nice. The desk clerk when we checked in needs lessons in customer service! He was just short of being rude. Certainly far less than friendly and welcoming. Otherwise the stay was fine. The rating would have been higher, for the price point, but there’s no need for someone like him at the front desk.

Staff person who checked me in was unpleasant to put it mildly. The room was an adjoining room so I could hear everything going on next door. Then around 9:00 at night it sounded like the party next door was trying to unlock and open the adjoining door on their side... this went on for a while until it sounded as though they slid something in front of the door. I could hear several arguments outside during the night. I had an UberEats delivery that was delivered to the wrong address but when I went outside to look for the order at the unit shown in the confirmation delivery picture it was gone. A complete waste of $140... spend your money elsewhere.

This is not a hotel option to pass on. The hotel is close to transit so getting to downtown and to a Cubs game is easy to do. There are alsom many dining and options and small uniqure shops along Clark and Broadway.

This motel was great for a one night stay in Chicago. It was super clean, and the man at the front desk was very nice! Free parking is also a HUGE plus. The biggest downside was the noise, the motel is located on a busy intersection, and the walls arent soundproof at all. As long as you dont mind traffic noise, this is an excellent choice for a short stay.

This is the fourth time I have stayed at the Heart O' Chicago. The rooms have some wear and tear but, they are always clean and we haven't had any issues. Love that I can walk anywhere. Plus, if you are attending an event that is train accessible - you can walk the two blocks to the brand new train station and leave the car behind (and save 60 dollars in parking downtown). One downside - the breakfast is a joke. Cereal and apples - that was it. Sad. There are many good places to eat in the area and rather than paying the 3 dollar charge for vending machine water - I walked into the neighborhoods and picked up some items at a local store.

Definitely falls into the no frills category, but I've never experienced a room that was dirty or uncomfortable in any way. This hotel is close to many dining options and is close to rail or bus transportation making getting around without a car, easy. It can get a bit noisy sometimes because of the nearby fire station.

A good location at a great price and free parking. Staff is nice too. You can easily get the Red line, the Clark bus and the Metra so you can get around the city with no problem. The hotel was clean and the beds & bath are fine. It gets a little noisy in the morning, but its Chicago, Thats to be expected.

Area seemed safe enough. Went for a run down to the Wrigley area in the middle of the day and was never concerned. Didn't try that at night though. The "breakfast" here is minimal. There's a coffee machine and some cereal and they were out of milk. Calling this a provided breakfast is a little misleading.

The breakfast was almost nonexistent. On the first morning, the only option was cereal in styrofoam bowls. No coffee. No tea. No bread. No juice. On the next two mornings, coffee was available.

Stayed for 2 nights when in town for Cubs games. The room was ok. No continental breakfast as advertised. No coffee on site. No fridge or microwave in room. The staff member I checked in with was rude and angry. The plus was it was an easy drive to anywhere we needed to go and parking was free. You could definitely do better, but you could do worse.

Room was clean basically. Just a old place. Could use a remodel at the prices they charge. The front desk guy was rude and obnoxious. Seemed aggravated. Checking in he had issues with the reservation so he got upset argumentative said I only reserved 1 night I explained it was 3 total one and then two as the app wasn't working.

Clean rooms, waited a bit for the staff to be helped but overall friendly. The shower itself didn’t have a lot of pressure but the water was nice and hot. Definitely would recommend!

This is a Motel, not a Hotel, and It is farther from the center of town than I expected, but that's on me for not doing my homework. It is comfortable and clean, and on various public transportation lines. Also a walking distance from Cafes and restaurants in Anderson I'll. The breakfast was bad, and I suggest that you bring something for breakfast, or eat out, rather than "enjoy" the 3 dry cereal selection that they offer (and some pouches of instant oatmeal.
