Harbor Base Inn

My wife and I booked this inn over Labor Day weekend because we were attending a wedding nearby and wanted to avoid driving home that night. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. When we entered the room with our belongings, we immediately noticed a very strong smell of bleach and other cleaning products. We inspected the room further and found several issues that made us uncomfortable staying there. The bathroom curtains had noticeable bleach stains, the top of the bedside stand appeared to have corroded wood, and there were old water stains that had damaged the countertops. The bathtub also had two dingy-looking strips running down the center. We then pulled back the sheets to inspect the bed and found what appeared to be dark stains on the mattress. At that point, we no longer felt comfortable staying in the room. I went to the lobby and asked the manager if we could be moved to another room. She appeared surprised when I explained the condition of the room, as though she was unaware of these issues. However, instead of offering another room, she became dismissive and told us that she would simply refund the room. We went back to collect our belongings and began calling other hotels in the area. Because it was Labor Day weekend, nearly everything nearby was sold out. After approximately nine calls, we finally found another hotel where we could stay. While we were gathering our things, the manager came to the room and told us that we had to leave

This is a basic old motel in need of updates. Mold and mildew in the shower. Broken shower wall. Old lumpy mattress. Broken towel rack. Leaking sink faucet. No landline phone. No hair dryer. No wi fi. Lamps next to bed don’t work. Thirty year old chipped and dented furniture. Ugly old decaying drapes. Floor was very clean. Toilet was clean. Towels and sheets were clean. Stay here only one night if nothing is available elsewhere

We stayed here for it's location close to downtown Newport. The rooms are older but ok. The deal breaker was the lack of wifi - if you went outside your room, you may be able to use it but inside the rooms, the wifi was not usable. It should be a basic amenity to have workable wifi and this hotel does not have that.

Very basic. Bedside lamps could not be plugged in. Minimum amenities. Convenient parking, nice staff, easy access to Newport attractions.
