Rodeway Inn Williamsburg Historic Area

We were very pleased with the hotel. The pool was wonderful, there is a charcoal grill on the property, the continental breakfast that consisted of a variety of cereals, mini muffins, toast and bagels but they were out of cream cheese. The food area was open until 11pm to get coffee, tea, milk and juice as well as an ice machine. There is a restaurant right next door for a full breakfast and lunch. Within walking distance (abt 1/2 mile) to colonial but since we had a 1.5 and 5.5yo we did drive it. All in all we were very pleased.

I didn’t expect much but was pleasantly surprised , the on premise owners were welcoming and very friendly , extending pool hours when possible , and more , though the property was old , it was maintained, clean sheets , bathrooms and more , there was a small buffet breakfast with a gallon of milk and sunny D , toast and bagels and a few mini muffins , along with condiments , perfect for a start to the day The pool area was spotless with a few chairs and recliners a perfect end to our night This hotel was extremely reasonable and I went in with very low expectations , but was very surprised for what it truly was , an older property reasonably priced , and I fell like if you have any issues the owners will make every honest attempt to accommodate , I personally lived all the maintained little plants at the main entry , a sign of the dedication and love of the owners

Very nice property has a cute charm to it. Restaurants within walking distance of the hotel. No bugs no issues. Only negative is we had a dumpster in our back window but we kept the cute blinds closed. Pool was also very nice as well.

The Rodeway Inn Historic provided my family a great base for our visit to Historic Williamsburg and the surrounding area. It is within walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg and a short drive to Busch Gardens, Yorktown, and Jamestown. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. Parking is free (typically drive right up to your door). There is an outdoor pool that looked inviting, but we never got around to using it. The room air conditioner needed its filter cleaned, which I did myself, then it cooled the room nicely. Room and bathroom were in good condition with TV, refrigerator, microwave and hair dryer. We had a problem with our hair dryer, but the staff replaced it promptly. On check-in we were informed that housekeeping would not be visiting every day, but could be requested on an as-needed basis. This worked out completely fine for us. Breakfast was simple, but adequate for this price. Coffee, tea, SunnyD, cereal, toast, apple sauce, tiny donuts. The TV in the breakfast area was helpful showing local weather. There is also the Colonial Pancake House adjacent to the hotel if you require something more hearty. Hotel guests get a special discount there. Other good dining options are close by as well. One thing to note is that you should not enter the parking lot too quickly as the transition from the road is rather abrupt. Our interactions with the housekeeping and front desk staff were positive. They were always helpful and friendly.

Older hotel but rooms were clean. Nice that the room refrigerator had a freezer. Front desk was very helpful. Virginia Beer company easy walk from hotel. Location to Busch Gardens was perfect. Only minor issue was the ice machine was inside the breakfast area and unavailable till it opened.

Overall good location, clean rooms, swimming pool, other amenities were good. Staff was efficient, quiet and convenient access to restaurant, historic district. Reasonably priced

Rooms are a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. Customer service from the front desk is excellent, the area is nice with convenient parking. Tons of eating options in the area and a nice outdoor pool.

Staff was very friendly, parking was available in front of room, access to nearby food options, and room was older but clean with all necessities.

This was our 3rd year of booking this hotel for the kids enjoy the pool open till 10pm. The property manager has always been so kind to us

This is our go to hotel in Williamsburg. Room is aged but it is clean and comfortable for a decent price. If you want high end this isn’t for you. If you want something comfortable and clean for a fair price that is convenient to multiple places and you can park right at your room, this is a good place to stay.

Great stay as usual with a friendly staff and clean room! Really enjoy how quiet the property is for a good nights sleep and the fact that it is close to food and gas.

The room was clean and parking was easy. The staff I met was friendly. While I did not go to breakfast, my husband brought back tidings of the meagerness of the fare offered.

Our room had an odor (the pillows needed replaced (smelled)). The carpet was stained and dirty. We cleaned the AC/heat unit front and the bathroom with bleach. There was black mold around the tub/shower. The room just needed a refresh. Paint, new carpet and bedding would make it so nice. The man at the check in told us that if we wanted clean towels we had to bring our used ones to the front desk and trade them towel for towel. They apparently only clean on Mondays, so if our garbage cans needed emptied we were to sit them outside the room and someone one would come by and take the garbage and leave a new bag in the can. ??? Most of the staff were excellent and so very kind and accommodating. One staff member was not pleasant and prickly to get along with.

There was black mold all in the bathroom. I wore my crocks to take a shower. The ceiling had brown spots as if water was leaking from the roof.

Lights didn’t work, mold around the shower faucets. The hotel said they couldn’t help us, we needed to call Hotels.com. Just because a place is inexpensive, doesn’t mean it should be dirty and have no lights.

Be aware that the pictures shown online of rooms are not representative of all rooms. Our room had dated decor and stains on the drop ceiling panels and on the walls. The carpet was stained also and had unexplainable lumps in areas. However, sheets were clean and unstained and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was functioning however the shower had mold in the grout and stains on the bathroom floor. The windowsill didn’t look like it had been wiped down recently as it had dust and dead ants on it. The window also had mold on it. It needs to have an exhaust fan installed. Also, the hairdryer was not operable. The pool was nice to use and we enjoyed having that. The breakfast offered was very minimal. Bread available to toast, a few choices of cereal, mini muffins, coffee, milk, and orange juice. We ended up eating breakfast out both mornings. It was a fine place to stay for two nights but I wouldn’t choose this place to stay again.

Our room wasn't clean upon arrival. When we did receive it, the condition was horrible. There was pubic hair in the bathroom and teeth marks on the soap. No towels or shampoo was provided. There was marks on the sheets and the wall paper was peeling. There was no internal lock on the door and the room smelled of smoke. The corners of the room had not been vacuumed in a while and were covered in dirt. Whenever I spoke to the clerk about this, they refused to help, saying I needed to go through the service I booked with and that they would not assist me. When I refused to take that answer, they took my keys back and refused to accommodate us. This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. Avoid this place like the plague.

Very nicely located. It's an older property from the 1950s, with that "early American" look that so many places in Williamsburg styled after during that era. I am sure it was a mom-and-pop at one time. Because they've kept much of the original retro styling, there are some rough spots where it could use some refurbishing. But, I found it clean, comfy, safe, and very close to the historic district. Very inexpensive and just fine for my needs. I will be staying here again on upcoming trips.

The property is conveniently located to several tourist attractions. It is also close to shopping and restaurants. The rooms are outdated with attention needed in the bathroom. There was mold along the shower and window. There was also an issue with the tub. It felt as though I was standing on a waterbed to shower. The beds are not comfortable either. However, for the price I paid (approx $50/night), It was perfect for what we needed. It was a safe place to sleep at night and close to where we were going. The outdoor pool was nice also after a long day in the heat.

The staff was excellent. Rooms are run down some have a musty smell and some doors are not aligned.

Not a bad place to stay for a reasonable rate. The WiFi is in desperate need of upgrading though. I was unable to work during my stay because of it cutting out.

Old hotel, needs refresh.

So I think everyone knows you get what you pay for and I couldn’t have spent a week in the Williamsburg area without staying here. It is only a 10-15 minute walk from Colonial Williamsburg so very conveniently placed. The hotel is on the edge of a decent neighborhood and an old business district so not bad but I questioned the location the first night until daylight revealed more. I will say the pool looked pretty good from the parking lot but I never used it. The room was bare bones but one could see when it was build it had been nice. I am sure some was summer humidity but the carpet always felt soggy and wasn’t the cleanest I have ever seen. The beds worked for sleeping but some of the linens though clean had cigarette burns. The lighting in the room wasn’t great and it wasn’t helped by one fixture being totally out. I will say the AC unit was quite robust. I am sure the bathroom was cleaned between guests but I don’t think the shower had been scrubbed since I could clean the mildew off the grout between the tiles with my finger nail. The shower water never got beyond warm but at least it wasn’t cold. The front desk staff did what was needed but would not be accused of being friendly or particularly helpful. And let’s just say the continental breakfast was for those on a severe budget or desperate. Overall the stay fit my purpose of a safe place to sleep but no frills and I wouldn’t say a place to hang out.

Property is an older property with dated facilities, but the facilities are in good condition and well maintained; room had everything I could want--fridge, microwave, Wifi, helpful area guide, clean and comfortable room.

The room is a bit dated. A coat of paint would be nice. The air conditioning was amazing I love when it really cools the room down. Nice flat screen tv. The "Breakfast" was only coffee, toast and cereals. -For the price it was ok.

Being an older hotel you can notice the age.of the building. But it wasn't a bad. The beds could be a bit more comfortable.

The bed was very hard and sheets were bare minimum . I had to purchase my own blanket from a shop to make the stay more bearable. The staff was nice and the inn/motel was on the older side I liked some of the features like the private screen door and the skylight window in the bathroom .

Very comfortable, clean, quiet, friendly, and great location for local attractions. Several outlets didn't work, out dated bathroom. A little difficult for smaller children and older adults to use. Very nice, economic, hotel.

Staff was very friendly

The gentleman (or not so much) on duty when we checked in was frustrated and condescending in all that he said, long winded and unable to make eye contact. He seemed annoyed by our arrival and did not hide it well. The woman who was behind the counter for check out was kind and gracious. Overall it was a quaint and comfortable stay for a fraction of the competition pricing. I would say to future guests, don't let the staff deter you from this place if they happen to be an ogre to you. It's in a very convenient and quiet location.

Property is convenient to history Williamsburg. Check in was humiliating. Not do to the hotel. They were able to fix the problem. My insert was do to Expedia. When I arrived at the hotel to check in. They indicated they did not have my reservation which I had confirmation and had booked months in advance. Apparently Expedia did not send over my reservation to the hotel. Luckily they had a room available and was able to get me in. This was the first problem I’ve encountered with Hotels.com. It was humiliating and nerve racking especially being the first day of our vacation.

The front desk staff is very well dressed. She was very kind! The lobby was beautiful. Very historical. The carpet in the room needed updating. The room smelled musty, but I bought some baking soda and put in our room and it helped tremendously. The bed was comfortable. Probably the best sleep I have ever gotten in a hotel. The sheets were clean and crisp. The bathroom was nice and clean. There was shampoo, conditioner and soap in the bathroom as well as a hair dryer. The phone didn't work and most of the lights didn't work. The bulbs may have been burned out. The heat/AC is central so whatever they have it set on in the office is what you get. It was hot for us in our room in March but the front desk loaned us a fan and the was perfect. It was a quiet area of town so it was safe and quiet. The Continental breakfast was toast, oatmeal, cereal and muffins. So if you are diabetic plan on eating somewhere else. The Pancake House next door is delicious but our bill was $50 for two adults. That tends to be the norm in the Williamsburg area. Overall it wasn't bad, but I didn't book the room to hang out in the room It was a safe and comfortable place to sleep. I definitely got what I paid for.

Not family friendly, terrible management, and awful customer service. Upon arrival, I was approached by a young woman, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and was walking around the parking lot seeking a certain form of adult companionship. I did not feel comfortable staying there with my child. I spoke with Expedia to express my discomfort. Expedia customer service completely understood, apologized, and reached out to staff. However, evening staff stated only a manager could address the issue regarding a refund. Expedia followed up next day, said management would not issue a refund, and apologized again. I reached out directly. Staff wouldn’t identify their name, stated they couldn’t help me, and were unable to tell me when a manager would be available because staff “doesn’t run the manager’s life.” Spoke with “a manager” the next day, who again did not identify his name. I was told no refund could be issued because I was listed as a no call, no show. I noted Expedia reached out the day of the reservation. Management denied the contact occurred because there were no notes in their system. When I mentioned I would be writing a review, management denied any concern if I shared any of my experience in my review. They elaborated that “the 10 people who don’t come” because of my review mean nothing to the business, nor did I. I would never recommend this place to any family and would caution anyone from booking if customer service, safety, and comfort matter to you

Heat was lacking a little, could've been much warmer, but was definitely a value for the money!! Would definitely stay again! Front desk staff was very nice and welcoming!

Old hotel that is very clean. I brought Clorox wipes and they all came up clean. It’s old. If oldness bothers you, don’t stay here. It’s very close to colonial Williamsburg. Took me less than 5 mins to walk over.

My mom and I stayed here just to visit Colonial Williamsburg. It was the perfect fit for us! It was about a 15 min leisurely stroll from the hotel to Duke of Gloucester Street (the main drag). There is a sidewalk most of the way however, part of the sidewalk is on the side of the road going over a bridge, and there were two spots close together where you have to use a crosswalk. My mom and I felt perfectly safe walking to and from Duke of Gloucester St even at night, but the flashlight on my phone was definitely necessary at night. Also be aware that once you use both crosswalks there is a stretch of sidewalk with large tree roots so it will be difficult with a traditional stroller, and I’m not sure transportation for handicapped visitors will really work. As to the hotel: the lady who checked us in was very friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. They didn’t really have room service where you call the front desk and they bring you something, but there was a list of nearby restaurants to order from. The continental breakfast was quite lacking, but at least there was something. All in all, if you want a nicely priced place to stay for the night within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg this is the place to stay. If you don’t mind driving (which would include paying for parking) and want to be at a nice hotel I would keep looking. My mom and I were happy I picked this hotel and plan staying here again the next time we want to visit Colonial Williamsburg.

I always love this hotel. It's well prices, quiet and I love the historical design. It's also walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg. Again, the price is amazing.

What a quaint slice of Americsna! Great little motel that has been well maintained. Very comfortable beds. Walking distance to historic Williamsburg. Incredible staff—alllowed us to check in early for my son’s Zoom interview. Just loved this place. Two thumbs up!

We were looking for something affordable and close to downtown and Busch Gardens. We took a chance after reading a lot of positive reviews. It did not disappoint. Check in and out was quick and easy. Rooms were clean and quiet.

Room was musty and things just felt icky and old. The heat was not on and there was no thermostat and it was chilly. No fan in the bathroom. Breakfast was just a few cereals.

All the covers for electric plug ins and the shower fan were actually off, sitting in various locations around the room. I wanted so badly to give a glowing review. The front desk people were excellent; always very friendly. The breakfast was non-existent. It consisted of: Coffee, Sunny-D, 4 types of cereal + milk, Hostess mini-donuts and grocery store mini-muffins. On the microwave -- an advertisement for the pancake restaurant in the parking lot. Just don't offer anything if you're funneling everyone there. Relatively quiet neighborhood in Williamsburg, however my teen daughter thought she saw illegal activity in the parking lot, but I cannot confirm.

The property was great, the staff was friendly. Close to water country, Busch Gardens and many other attractions. Had the tub fill up while showering first day otherwise no plumbing issues. The breakfast was just toast, mini muffins, cold cereal and coffee and tea but since we were staying 5 nights we had packed food anyway. So no big deal. Will be staying here again.

The hotel was comfortable for the price although it is old and could use some renovation. The free continental breakfast was very limited.

Very clean and comfortable. I would have given 5 stars if it was not for the low quality of the breakfast. The only thing they offer to eat is toast, mini muffins, a few sugar cereals and bananas. No bagels, no cream cheese. The orange juice is of the lowest quality. Coffee is good. The breakfast room is also quite small for the amount of people.
