Live the front porch and dining room. We were first assigned a room in the Steven’s bldg. it was completely not up to standards. Musty smell , far from hotel and old dirty furniture. I complained to the front desk and was upgraded to a nicer building. Staff very cooperative. The pool was cloudy and in need of cleaner water. No amenities.

We stayed in one of the Maple Glen rooms. So quintessential New England. Just lovely. The staff was top notch, the room was cozy - the pool and hot tub were wonderful....

The hotel is very old, some people enjoy that type of properties, not us. The pictures are deceiving, the pool is very small. Over all an expensive stay, for what the hotel can offer.

I love the outdoor heated pool and hot tub. It would be great if it was open later until midnight on the weekends at least.

The room was spectacular! The entire facility was available to us, with wonderful sitting rooms, tables to play games. room service, a pool that is heated 365 days a year, and a history that would blow you away! Dining on the premises and a lovely gift shop.

We could use the pool and other amenities available prior to our room being available. It was great to sit outside have dinner whilst listening to live music.

A great place if you appreciate and like history. The lobby is filled with antiques and the porch is great to rock in a chair and sip some wine. Parking is no issue and you can walk to local restaurants and shops.

Wonderful stay in a winter wonderland that evening especially with use of the heated pool and hot tub being maintained! Loved it. Shops inside were lovely as well, bars & restaurant on-site were fun with quirky decor. Whole hotel is quirky, which is fun!

The property was charming. Great location. However, there was mold in the bathroom, the pool needed to be cleaned.

Room was clean and comfortable. Antique furnishings throughout the hotel, all spotlessly clean but period correct for the past. Staff were all helpful and professional.

I was very excited to stay at the Red Lion Inn. The outside of the Inn was charming, the inside had beautiful antiques and furniture, however the floor and carpeting were in terrible condition. The girl at the front desk rolled her eyes at me when I asked about the haunted room. She said I’ve been here 3 years and there’s nothing. Now I’m not a ghost hunter, but I thought it was cool that it could be haunted. The bathroom in our room was DISGUSTING. There was some gooey stuff in the sink that would not come clean, even after housekeeping. Although I love the old charm, the bathroom had a big claw foot tub with a shower that was some cheap metal rod with a shower head. There was no shelf to hold toiletries. It was extremely small and the toilet was very low to the ground. Idk how someone tall could sit comfortably. I do appreciate the charm, and the overall vibe, but get some new carpet and get rid of the nasty sink in room 320

The bathroom in the only room we were offered is atrocious-black mold and dark stains in shower, dark stains around toilet on floor, bead board split on bathroom wall , wall paper in corner of bathroom twisted and distorted and curtain missing on bathroom window. The property was lovely, I enjoy looking at the antiques. However the pool had a lot of bugs in it and there was mold in the bathroom.

This is an historic building so understandably old but it needs a serious update. Carpet in room is stained and threadbare. Bathroom is a bit rustic with loud bathroom fan and open area for sink. Food is ok but service spotty but friendly. Porch vibe is great but not enough to come back again.

I can only describe our experience as heartbreaking. I have stayed at the Red Lion many times over the past 30 years - even spent New Year’s Eve one year. It was a treasure, Stockbridge at its finest. We drove out of our way to stay there on this trip. Unfortunately, the Inn has fallen into disrepair. This is not shabby chic - this is just shabby. Torn and fraying carpet on stairs, stained carpet in our room, wallpaper peeling, bathroom caulking grimy, furniture upholstery fraying, (I could go on and have pictures of it all). When we complained, instead of discounting the outrageously priced stay, we were given an upgrade for our next visit. We read that the Inn is under new management. Let’s hope they can get their act together and not run a cherished landmark into the ground.

Room was comfortable and clean. The Inn is beautiful. We went to the Lions Den both evenings and had a drink and listened to live music. We couldn’t get a table at the restaurant but there are other good options in walking distance. The only disappointment was that the fireplace in our room was not working.

There's a big difference between "charm" and "neglect," especially in a room that costs $500 per night. Is $500 a night appropriate for a bathroom with a old, peeling vinyl floor? Is it a good price for a room with a door so mis-shapen that there's a 1-inch gap between the top of the door and the doorframe, so you can peer into the room when the door is shut? Is $500 a night deserved for a room with a bedspread so old, it's been worn straight through in places (holes). You can decide for yourself. Just know what to expect.

My room had a musty smell and the carpets were old

It is a very old property, very dark. The room was much smaller than shown on the website. I felt like I was staying in an antique store.

Our room was dark no matter how many lights were on. Noisy because of street traffic. Our carpet was very used with many stains. Very hard to find a place to plug in phones and watch. It was quaint but these issues stood out more than quaintness.

IThe Red Lion Inn is an institution. The porch, the shop, there’s even a pool in back. It’s a wonderful place and is clearly well run. The ambiance is very pleasant. Not hyper but friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay in a really nice room on the 4th floor. The bathroom was huge and clean and recently updated. I’m eager to stay again. We were there very early in the Spring. High season will be a different vibe. The nearby Norman Rockwell Museum was worth a visit but costs $45 for 2 senior rate entries. Plan to stay a couple of hours to get you money’s worth.

The Red Lion is a historic hotel. When we checked it they told us they were putting us in a building they use for overflow guests. Very disappointing. The room had a thin carpet which was damp and musty. TV was broken and could not even be fixed by their engineer. In room phone didn’t work. Over all terrible.

We truly enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious, beds comfy and the charm and history of the inn is truly enchanting.

It is a very old building and old town and it really shows. Felt like a ghost was going to pop out at every corner. There is a musty smell everywhere. The Heater/AC unit in our room did not work but the windows did so luckily the weather was not harsh. If you like that kind of thing then this is the place.

The location was good. The hotel has character..but the loud courtyard music that I finally called to stop 3 times starting at 2 am should not have been necessary. Rather than comp the sleepless night they gave me a $50 gift card for a future visit.

Great location, nice rooms, and excellent price n house dining. Next time I go I’ll try to get top floor room, sounded like a basketball team were in room above my 2nd floor room

We stayed in one of the houses on the property. The room was clean but we would have liked the balcony to be cleaned of leaves and some empty cans left there. They came to clean the room at 8:15 am and we asked for them to return later but they never did. For the 3 nights we stayed there the room was never cleaned. The pool was nice although the lounge chairs were soaking wet and we couldn't sit in them. The staff was nice, and the food and bar were good. For what we paid for the 3 nights it's not a very good value.

Great ambience Big problem -- they don't tell you that you basically cannot eat in the hotel without a reservation in advance. And the breakfast service is beyond terrible -- waited 20 minutes for the hostess to tell me to wait some more (even though there were tables available -- just sitting there not cleaned up by the staff).

Overpriced property with poor customer service. I spent 3 nights at the RLI. My daughter is attending an area boarding school and was I looking for my go-to place for when I come to visit her. RLI will not be it. Firstly, my $1400+ rate did not include breakfast. Additionally, the simple request for hot water so that I could have my morning or evening tea, either went unanswered (front desk phone would ring and ring and ring) or would not be sent after speaking with someone. I did manage to get hot water when I went downstairs to retrieve it or on Sunday morning when someone brought it pretty quickly. Additionally, the internet is not secure for guests. When I asked why there was a staff secure access and not one for guests, I was told that that would be an upgrade in the future. If you plan on doing work while there, think again. I did not eat at the restaurant, so I cannot comment on the food. Also, plan on getting up really early as the cleaning crew comes around for housekeeping around 9:30. Overall, I would not revisit. You can get much better value at a Bed & Breakfast (and actually get breakfast) or at a chain hotel.

Miranda at the front desk was beyond accommodating. My mom and I enjoyed our stay in this historic hotel!

I arrived ay 930 a.m. from a long drive and the hotel clerk let me and my dog in right away -- six hours early! It's a great place but it is that kind of service that makes me want to go back!!

The Red Lion lived up to its reputation as a wonderful Inn to spend some time. It's full of charm and so comfortable. Great for leaf peeping and close to a great bakery and good shops.

Historic 1770’s inn is a rare treasure connecting us to American history. Excellent staff and service. Gorgeous part of the country. Shame about the heavy Route 7 traffic rolling past the front door, not a concern when the inn was built.

Great quirky old property with cubbies galore, historical charm, friendly staff and a front porch full of comfy rocking chairs. On Main st Stockbridge, so easy walk and drive to many Berkshire staples like Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, the Mount, Berkshire botanical gardens, area restaurants and art museums.

The location in the vicinity of attractions

We had a great visit. Ask for a room away from the street. The street noise from cars and trucks begins in the early hours of the morning. The dinner was delicious!

The restaurant is uninspired and over priced

First off the staff was amazing. The property is incredibly well preserved for such a historic site. The food was fantastic. My Paresian gnocchi starter and prime rib entree were incredible. Huge front porch was great for drinks and socializing. The pool and hot tub out back was liked by many. Overall a very unique spot with so many old photos and prints on the wall that record a rich history. At the same time great service and excellent food. Highly recommended.

Iconic, comfortable, historic ambiance, convenient location. If you come to the Berkshires you should stay or eat here at least once. Basic room with grandma's attic furniture but with a renovated bathroom. Breakfast and lunch were very good.

The Breakfast was horrible, worst we have ever had. The home fries were nothing but grease, the omelets were greasy and watery. Just horrible

The hotel was very nice, well kept, and clean on the inside and had its characteristic charm. The pool area was gorgeous and very relaxing. We loved the charm and the way the property sprawled around the cute town square. Our room was very spacious, clean and the bed was super soft and comfy. However, we felt that some of the outside details were lacking (unmowed lawns, chipping paint). We also had very slow (had to ask to order after more than 30 minutes at the worst) service in two of the restaurants.

Typical issues with old properties: failing latches, old windows, broken or missing pavers. Excessive wait times. Mediocre food service at excessive prices. Pet-friendly accommodations are good and convenient. Location makes up for almost all failings.
