Hotel lobby is not exactly what you see in the pictures, it’s very small, the elevators can only fit two individuals or one person with two pieces of luggage, we stayed in Room 502, lot of space but not maintained, beds are fine the bathroom is okay, shower curtain and tub, hotel good for one night not recommended for extended stay.

Booked this room for one night to attend a concert at Allianz Amphitheater. Within walking distance of venue, parking is pricey ($37/valet), checked in at 4pm, room was just finishing up even though check in says 3pm. Elevators are super tiny but overall hotel was clean and updated with friendly staff.

The room and hotel was clean and the bed, super comfortable. Didn’t love that the “window” was 1 foot from a brick wall so no daylight or view. And the gym was pretty minimal. All fine.

Very central location right behind the state capitol. Room was great incl fridge & microwave. There's only valet parking (~$45/night extra), but they're pretty quick once you request your car. It's definitely a renovated older building, because the elevators are TINY.

The hotel was very nice. There were not very many places to walk to and the parking situation at the hotel was valet only which got crazy at times. Our room was nice, however, the a/c unit was so loud! It never shut off. It made sleeping a bit difficult. Food at the restaurant was ok. Some staff members were definitively friendlier than others. Overall we were happy with our stay.

It was very expensive and it didn’t have a pool. We had to pay for valet parking $33 a night. We waited until the last minute to book so we didn’t have too many hotel options.

We loved everything about this hotel. We were right beside the elevator and I was worried we were going to hear it or people passing our room all night. We didn't hear a thing! Two small complaints: the elevator is TINY four people max with no bags, and the only parking they have is valet which is $33 a day, or you can walk two blocks and park in public parking.

When I arrived at the hotel (super early). The room wasn’t ready so I headed out to work. When I came back around 4:30 the room was ready. Once I entered the room it smelled musty. They did not prep the room with the AC on. The filters were dirty( I pulled them out to see) and my co-worker was sneezing all night. I asked them to please clean the bathroom because there was loose hair all around the floor. The cleaner came in and changed the towels only and never mopped the floor. The hotel was EMPTY! And on our second day was the same. Towels changed, floor remained dirty. So I took a small towel soaked in hot water and cleaned the bathroom floor. On our 4th day, we took the elevator up to what we thought was our floor (7th fl not 9th.) We were thrilled when we walked into the room not knowing we were on the wrong floor. The cleaning crew was still there doing final touches. Once we walked in, we noticed the beds were not the same and advised the cleaning person we were in the wrong room. That room was spotless, smelled fresh etc. She was mopping the floor as we were entering. But now that we knew it was the wrong room, we were thrilled that they finally cleaned up our room very well. NOT AT ALL!. It was still dirty and all they did was change the towels and did not through out the trash, straighten out the couch etc. It was really a horrible experience. I would NOT recommend this hotel at all. The front desk was ok.

One of the nicest places we have stayed. The hotel was amazing, but the staff really made this place special. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We travelled from WV, and my family from Gettysburg, PA to go to the Richmond NASCAR race together. From the moment we arrived to departure, the staff treated us like they were part of our family. The rooms were spotless and the beds were amazing!!

The breakfast certainly exceeded expectation and was much better than some of the local restaurants in downtown. My disappointment came with overall look and feel of the hotel. I was expecting a five star experience and the current state of the hotel did not deliver. The dark hallways, dirty bathroom and torn bedding was not what I expected.

The floors of the lobby and our floor (4th) were discussing. Dirt marks everywhere. As per the bedroom, out of a half empty hotel, the receptionist had no better room but to place us facing inward directly to the cooling tower and the main plumbing. Having the most important landmark right in front of the hotel, feels insulting that we were given this room. At last the staff behaved and acted as if they were at home. Hanging in the lobby on their phones and not paying attention to serving the guest. Really and overall disappointment.

The room size was great. Staff was friendly. But the hotel room was not very clean. With stains on the couch, curtains, and carpet, smudges throughout, and just grimey. Valet parking was not to be found when we arrived, we parked out front, paid for valet, to be told the car wojld stay out on the street all night. We were given our keys to leave in the morning. This was self parking, not valet, and misleading. There was a huge water stain in the corner of the bedroom. And there was construction in the room next door, including loud hammering and music, during the morning.

Not a fan of this hotel - paint chipping all over the room, shower water wouldn’t turn off fully & the shower handle fell off. Rooms are horribly decorated & it didn’t feel very clean. No coffee mugs in the room either but coffee pods.

The room was nice, and the bed was comfortable. The shower was a bit disappointing as the door would not stay closed and dripping water after shutting it off. It was luxurious, but it had some wear and tear in various spots. Room was super dark with neighboring building right up against the window. The staff was wonderful and very helpful.

This is our second stay at The Commonwealth as a family. We stay here because it has proximity to the Richmond Convention Hall and the suites are large and comfortable for a family of 5. The hotel is clean and pleasant. The bed is comfortable. The suites have a microwave and fridge. The only downside is the staff. We used valet (the only option) and had to wait an hour for our car. Once I realized how late the car was, my kids and I walked to the Convention leaving my husband to wait. We missed our first session. I asked for that day's valet (about $35) to be comped and I got a runaround about needing to speak with the GM who was not there.

The room was not like the room on the website. I don’t know if it was bc of me booking through Expedia or not. I was placed right next to the elevator. My view was the room across from me, so I had to keep my curtain closed. The a/c units were right next to my window so I heard that all night and also something that sounded like a furnace. The room is already painted black so it was super dark. I would give this property a 7. It was clean but it still needs work.

The door to our room did not lock. We reported this in the morning and were assured it would be fixed right away. When we can back, the maintenance guy had marked it as fixed but the lock still didn’t work. He was gone for the day so we spent two night in a hotel without a working lock and nobody seems particularly concerned about it. Valet staff was great, super helpful and friendly. Location is good for downtown but not close to the main shopping and dining areas.

Staff was very nice. Room was big and also clean. The room was not ready until 45 minutes after our check in time so we had to sit around in the lobby for a while. Also took over 40 minutes to get my car out of valet parking when we checked out.
Staff was very nice. Room was big and also clean. The room was not ready until 45 minutes after our check in time so we had to sit around in the lobby for a while. Also took over 40 minutes to get my car out of valet parking when we checked out.

Check in was not good. We arrived early and they were kind enough to store our luggage as we went to lunch. We got back at 2:30 and our room was not ready. We waited in the lobby for an hour, still not ready. This is after our 3pm check in. I reserved the room 3 weeks prior. The girl at the front desk left for the day. Our room, still not cleaned! Juan took over and got us a room immediately. How frustrating!

From the moment we arrived, even before stepping inside, we felt genuinely welcomed. The valet team was outstanding—especially the gentleman managing the area. He greeted us warmly, unloaded all of our luggage, brought it to our room, and even took the time to hang up our dresses. Check-in was smooth and effortless. The lobby was absolutely beautiful and set the tone for the rest of our stay. When we entered our room, we were amazed by how gorgeous, comfortable, and spotless it was—truly one of the cleanest hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. That evening, we had a concert to attend, and once again, the valet service went above and beyond. Our vehicle was ready, doors were opened for us, and they even offered ponchos because of the rain—a thoughtful touch. When we returned around 11 p.m., we received the same level of service. We all slept wonderfully; the beds were extremely comfortable. The next morning, we ordered room service, and breakfast was excellent—the food was delicious, and the fruit was incredibly fresh. Check-out was just as easy as check-in. Our vehicle was ready, and we were quickly on our way. This was without a doubt the best hotel experience we’ve ever had. We felt safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for. We will absolutely be back

I rarely leave bad reviews, but The Commonwealth Hotel in Richmond, VA was a major letdown. While it was conveniently located near the Amtrak station and the courthouse, which was actually quite pretty, that was one of the only positives about the place. The rest of the experience was disappointing. The location felt oddly isolated and lacked anything walkable. The room had windows but faced a wall, which made it feel like a claustrophobic box. The elevators were tiny and slow, adding to the overall cramped feeling and giving the whole place a dated vibe. Amenities were extremely limited—don’t expect much beyond the bare minimum. For the price, at almost $250 a night, I expected far better.

It was a lovely hotel. The room was generously sized. It was clean and the staff was courteous and helpful. The restaurant was excellent for breakfast. The only thing that could be a concern for some guests is that noisy heating/air conditioning in room. It didn’t bother me but some guests might find it annoying. I strongly recommend this hotel.

The hotel staff were super accommodating and friendly. I was very appreciative of the valet parking as it was raining quite heavy. The beds were super comfortable so that I had the best sleep possible. The food in the dining room was excellent. I will be hoing back!

Property was terribly understaffed. Valet had one poor man running cars and it took way too long. Breakfast at restaurant also had one server and the kitchen was so slow. It took an hour to get a warm cinnamon roll-we had to beg for a to go container and run. All summed into us being late for an appointment. The staff was kind and apologetic-it was not their fault they did not have enough people. Facilities-the AC in our room would not bring the temperature below 75-it was uncomfortable to sleep. Could be a lovely property if they would invest in employees so visitors could enjoy their stay.

We stayed in a "Roomy" suite which was vast and would have been great for a family looking for somewhere to base themselves. However it was really badly thought out with terrible lighting, and the worst in-room coffee I've ever had! We tried to eat in the restaurant but the menu was terrible and the place was deserted, so we went out instead. Parking is valet only, but very convenient. And the hotel is ideally located if you want to visit Richmond - you can see the Capitol from the front door and it's an easy walk down to the river to explore the other sights.

The actual hotel experience was amazing. Staff was very nice and accommodating. The restaurant in the hotel on the other hand, the morning waitress was amazing and very nice and on top of things. The waitress that we had for dinner both nights we were there was abysmal. The first night we waited at our table for 20 minutes before she even came to give us menus or take our drink order. Then I asked her for a refill of water, she took my glass and never came back with it. My husband spent half his meal with no drink because she didn't refill his either. The chef came out and asked how everything was and we told him food was delicious, but we were both thirsty and it was only then that we got our drinks refilled. The second night service was no better still went half the meal with no drink.

Downtown hotel on a holiday = quiet neighborhood with not much open. The suite was very nice (good size for the $$), but the restaurant was a disappointment. It was unexpectedly closed one morning due to someone calling out sick. We may try a different neighborhood next time.

The property was beautiful. I loved the historic look. We had the double queen suite and it was HUGE! I was not expecting a very large living area and a roomy bedroom. It was awesome to have a large mini fridge with a freezer, a microwave, and a Keurig in the room. I raved about it to all my friends, and I would absolutely come back! The valet staff was also incredibly friendly and helped me figure out where to park even though I didn’t use their service.

The floors had too much cleaning product and were slippery. The body soap container in the shower was empty on day one and despite letting them know, remained empty throughout our three day stay (they did hand us a few small hand soaps at the front desk to tide us over), the upholstery was worn, the windows which were 100% sealed with a double pain for noise, had cobwebs and housekeeping didn’t come one day (no idea why). As far as services go, again very friendly staff, but the hotel bar didn’t know how to make a basic martini, didn’t have tonic for a vodka tonic and the morning drip coffee (which was not free) was terrible. Overall, there’s a lot of potential, a beautiful park across the street, decent restaurants in walking distance, but it needs an upgrade and some staff oversight.

Should be priced better for what you receive. A one night stay would be fine. It was quiet, minus the extremely loud old a/c system.
