Coal Miners’ Cabins

Väldigt enkelt boende med ganska små rum och dusch/toa i korridoren. Mysig loungedel vid receptionen där man kunde låna spel. Där fanns även frukosten och bar med lätta måltider under dagen. Middagen provade jag aldrig men hörde gott om den.

Det har legat fint men utsikt mot bergen. Det finns olika hus. Till frukost behöver man gå till huvudbyggnaden. Trevligt ställe.

Chambre impeccable calme. Pour le petit déjeuner faut affronter le froid chaque matin. Le soir la ville étant un peu loin à pied on a la possibilité de prendre aussi des repas sur place. Machine à laver et sèche linge non négligeable et très apprécié

Nydelig frokost. Ikke bra å bo på 5 cabin gå ut for å spise frokost, kunne ikke drikke vann der ellers greit

The property was nice. Easy to get to and the staff are accommodating. We got two rooms with 2 beds. They are big enough for two people and baggage in each room. The bathrooms are shared in the hallways. Each bathroom is private and has a shower. Very clean and warm during the cold winter. Never had issues waiting for the bathroom. There were 4 bathrooms on each floor. The main building had a bar and a lounge to hang out in. Tea, coffee and water offered all day for free. Would stay here again.

Friendly staff who were ready to help and answer questions. It would have been nice to have been offered help with luggage as there is no lift but a kind man who was cleaning helped me when checking out. Several cabins present - some a bit far from the reception but luckily mine was close. Dinner options are decent. The view and surrounding environment are nice and peaceful, but the walk to the town is definetely longer than the advertised 20 minutes, however it can be a nice walk. I don't mind sharing toilets, but it's difficult to control toilet floors being wet when multiple people are using it, which is a bit annoying. The shower curtain for some of the toilets could have been cleaner. Room was clean and bed really comfortable.

We were pleasantly surprised. Spacious rooms, only waited for the bathroom once in the 4 nights we stayed. The staff were very nice and helpful. The common area/bar/restaurant area was very comfortable. Roughly a 2.5 km walk into town. We would definitely stay here again

It was really nice that there was free tea and coffee.

A wonderful place just north of the center of town. Very chill and lovely rooms. I would stay here again. Loved the breakfast and bar vibe. The best hot chocolate in town— you build your own, boozy or not. 😊

I didn't mind the 20 minute walk into town, as I was hiking most of the day and the bulk of the shops were closed by the time I finished anyway. Superb breakfast, very helpful staff, free washers and dryers, and a very usable common kitchen facility for those who might want to cook. I would definitely stay there again.

Sehr ruhig, alles sauber

Nous avons passé trois nuits dans cet hôtel et en avons eu une très bonne expérience. Les chambres sont grandes et propres et la cuisine bien équipée. La réception et le restaurant sont accueillants

The staff and Coal Miners Cabins was very friendly and helpful. They always made sure to tell me which food had the ingredient I could've eat. They always smiled and were helpful. The shared bathrooms were kept very clean and stocked with necessary supplies. I felt well cared for during my stay!

Prima hotel. Kamers schoon. Badkamer op de gang maar erg netjes en schoon. Goed ontbijt .vriendelijk personeel . Goede service.

Pulizia eccelsa , non solo della camera ma anche dei bagni . Presenza di cucina in condivisione pulita e ben servita. Ristorante dell’ hotel buonissimo e neanche tanto caro!

Rummen slitna men det var rent. Toaletterna välstädade. Dock ingen städning av rummet under vistelsen.

Clean & comfortable room

Das Personal war sehr freundlich und die Unterkunft ruhig gelegen. In die Stadt läuft man ca. 35 Minuten, daher sollte gut überlegt sein, ob man stattdessen evtl.ein zentrales Hotel bevorzugt. Das Zimmer war simpel aber versucht gemütlich zu machen. Leider war das Zimmer recht dreckig. Die Blutflecken und gelben Flecken auf der Matratze schimmerten durch das Bettlaken. Zudem schien der Boden nicht gut gewischt zu sein. Die Zimmer waren hellhörig, sodass man die Nachbarn reden und schnarchen hören konnte. Zudem klemmen die Türen, wodurch diese meistens geknallt wurden. Ich habe keine einzige Nacht gut geschlafen und mich dadurch nicht wohl gefühlt. Die Küche war schmutzig und hat gestunken. Diese wurde auch während meines Aufenthaltes (1 Woche) erst gereinigt, nachdem ich mich beschert hatte. Sauber war dann dennoch nicht. Ich habe die Küche aus diesem Grund nichtmal genutzt, um mir einen Tee zu machen, da es zu eklig war. Trotz Spülmaschine, welche tagelang nicht ausgeräumt wurde, war das Geschirr in den klebrigen Schränken schmutzig. Zudem war die Ausstattung nicht sonderlich gut. Die Badezimmer müssten 2x am Tag gereinigt werden. Da es nur 3 Badezimmer gab, waren diese am späten Nachmittag wieder schmutzig(Toilette).Dies ist natürlich die Schuld der Gäste, da dies jedoch leider immer so ist, müsste das Hotel daraus eingestellt sein. Trotz dem günstigen Preises sollte es sauber sein. Ich würde es nicht nochmal buchen, da es schmutzig und hellhörig war.

Trevligt och mysigt ställe med usikt över samhället. Trevlig personal och rent och frächt. Kunde finnas lite mer varation på frukosten men överlag över förväntat för ett hostel.

Room size exceeded our expectations. Spacious and clean/fresh. Breakfast was good. Internet worked flawlessly. Fun to stay in a building with the heritage from the coal mining days. Improvement opportunities would be: More hot water for more than 1 or 2 people to shower in the morning, lock on toilet room door would also be a nice feature. For the same type trip I would certainly consider same again. Stayed three fault friends for 4 nights.

This place is a little different and a good 15 minutes walk to . Shared bathroom but everything was super clean

Loved the staff and the Lobby was nice/fun/clean - rooms were too basic for us....but if you are used to a Hostel it is great. Also, free washer/dryers

Just like being a coal miner. Rooms are old and rustic with plumbing visible and well worn furnishings. Breakfast is good. Location is well away from local attractions with very limited local transportation.

The facility was very clean, and the staff were amazing. False advertising on Expedia.I stayed in single economy room and it gives the impression that there is a bathroom in the room and no information about shared bathroom.

A great stay if you’re just looking for a bed for the night. The room was warm and clean, albeit small and basic. Overall, perfect if you aren’t expecting lots of extras. The complementary breakfast wasn’t great though.

Bodde där två nätter inför en expeditionskryssning i tjänsten. Var mest på rummet för att sova. Rummen är uppdelade på olika hus. Ligger en 20-minuterspromenad från själva byns "centrum". Rummen skulle kunna vara lite mindre kala. Nu är det ju ett hotell och inte ett vandrarhem, men känns mer som ett vandrarhem. Så lite mer effort på inredningen skulle man kunna tycka. Bara för att få en lite varmare känsla. Det är också lyhört. Så vet man med sig att man vaknar lätt så bör man gardera sig med öronproppar. Glad att det ingick frukost men den var ganska torftig så även den skulle behöva ett lyft. Incheckningen gick bra och personalen är trevlig.

My preferred place to stay on Svalbard since 2005-lovely Staff and cosy rooms.I Will definately return!!!.

I love the Staff every staff member that I met at Coal Miners including the kitchen staff and Waiter’s Staff absolutely amazing!! I travel a lot all around the world and I have never met a staff like the staff at Coal Miners Hotel I actually extended my trip because the Staff was so helpful and kind they felt like my family away from home!! Also, the breakfast was very good and food that was at the restaurant. Very good and so is the waiters and waitresses and the manager was very kind and helpful! I was a bit concerned, traveling alone to a place far away, but best made me feel so happy and very welcome there! The cleaning staff was also amazing and very kind and very helpful. It’s the very wonderful place to be. I will definitely be going back there!!

Property prices were reasonable by Svalbard standards though a room without ensuite toilet cost the same as a 5 star in Dubai or a palace hotel in India. However cleanliness was maintained and in general staff were friendly I was told by email that I should first come to hotel & check in and then go for a tour (I had asked if I could do sighseeing and then in evening come to hotel). They infact told me there were no luggage storage facilities in the museum.This was by email. However when I followed their advise I was told I am 1 hrs 30 minutes early for checkin so should pay extra. As there were no safe luggage storage , I had to go back. I was advised to walk as weather was good but slipped badly on the icu roads injuring my knees badly. When I got back iin evening , I was again asked to show ID for checkin. This was terrible customer service.Also was told there is common kettle in the cabins but could not find any so could not make tea /coffee or boil water (the reception area and cabins are different and you need to go via a icy slippery path). Also no safe water to drink. Apart from that it was fine and in general the staff were nice and attentive apart from these 2 exceptions. The dinner buffet though extremely limited was tasty and morning breakfast was ample.This property is far from town but that is mentioned and a extremely long walk .Better to go in groups if walking for support.

Tilbragte 5 overnatninger. Værelserne var fine, rene og dejlig varme trods -18 grader udenfor. Dejlige senge og dyner. Morgenmaden var super og varieret. Og aftensmaden smagte dejligt - god gedin og mættende. Et rigtig dejligt sted og så lå det lidt udenfor byen, så nordlyset kunne ses rigtig fint. Et roligt sted uden trafikstøj. Stormessan var hyggelig og vi nød vores varme kakao der, når vi kom ind fra kulden. Men det bedste var personalet ❤️. Så søde og hjælpsomme - blev aldrig trætte af alle vores spørgsmål og klar med råd, tips og hjælp. Vi følte os virkelig velkomne 🏅

The check in employee was outstanding

Good value for money, friendly staff and had everything you need for a trip to Svalbard. The only thing we didn’t realise when booking was that the bathroom was shared. But the shower and toilet facilities were regularly cleaned and this didn’t cause us any problems. The main city area was also a 40 minute walk away.

As a first timer on Svalbard, the Coal Miner’s Cabin didn’t disappoint! I love how it is away from the main part of town and the rustic feel to it. It has gorgeous views and super comfortable beds. The staff were friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable.

Bra hotell, god frukost, i utkanten av byn. Perfekt med möjlighet att göra/förvara egen mat. Promenad till centrum tar 30 min.

Et spennende sted med en flott rustic atmosfære. Menyutvalget på dag- og kveldstid kunne gjerne vært noe bredere. Servicen var imidlertid helt upåklagelig – veldig vennlig, hjelpsom og svært informativ betjening.

I really liked the concept, rooms and public areas were clean, personnel super friendly and the breakfast was better then some airport lounge buffets

Väldigt dyrt, men på Svalbard väldigt billigt. Jag tycker överlag att det var väldigt bra. Frukosten är underbar, man kan också göra mellanmål inför sin dag.

Coal Miner's cabins have a great staff, a really perfect continental breakfast, a nice walk into the main part of town. So it's a little bit more quiet and relaxed. And was affordable and just perfect!

Einfache, aber gemütliche Unterkunft. Alles etwas in die Jahre gekommen, aber gepflegt und sauber. Leider ist das (auch sehr gemütliche) Restaurant geschlossen, was auf expedia nicht angekündigt war. Das fand ich sehr schade. Man kann sich was per Lieferservice bestellen, oder man geht jedes Mal die 30 Minuten runter ins "Zentrum"... (Frühstücksbuffet gibt es dort aber; Frühstück ist wirklich gut!)

Simple but clean. Excellent buffet breakfast. Great location away from town centre. Very friendly staff.
