Albany Hotel

I selected the Albany because of location to the bus station as I was doing alot of tours and this hotel didn't disappoint. It is a 10 minute walk to Prince Street and all the main attractions... but without the crowd and noise. It was a very quiet location, very safe (I was by myself). The room was HUGE. Had a walk in closet - I only wish they put a dresser in such a big space with drawers for your clothes. The bathroom was massive. The housekeeping crew was great, every day you got cookies and (2) bottles of water. There are no elevators so if you cannot walk up 4 flights of stairs you'll need to request a bottom floor (the front desk carries your luggage up which was nice). I only have two complaints if you will - I was there September so it was starting to cool down. Every day at 6am and around 8pm the boilers come on and it has a ringing sound to it. I inquired what the sound was and the front desk informed me of the boilers coming on to heat up. It does stop after about an hour but it is bothersome noise and even with windows shut you can still hear it (my room was in the back so not sure if you are facing the main street if you won't hear it). The other was that we had some heat spells and there is no air conditioning. I was able to get a fan and with the windows open it was fine sleeping at night, but if you come during the summer you may want to consider. Otherwise a lovely hotel, highly recommend and would stay here again.

The aesthetic of the rooms was very nice. The property is odd in that it a conversion of several rowhouses, so you had to go up and down various stairs to access the rooms. My only complaint is the lack of amenities. There is no laundry service, no iron in the room, and the bathrooms are very tiny. I am over 6 ft. tall, and the sink was halfway up my thighs. The staff was very nice and accommodating. They will hold your room key (old fashioned solid metal key, and you had to manually lock your room door when you left for the day.

It is a wonderful place to stay. There is no elevator. The staff did carry my luggage up to the fourth floor, but obviously they do not carry it down when you check out (maybe if asked?) I found the old building wonderful, but this is not a typical hotel. It is a boutique hotel. It is very close to several places to eat or drink, but off the tourist/beaten path. It is still very walkable to so many tourist places though. Any walk in Edinburgh is hilly. Know you will be walking up & down wherever you stay. It was an easy (uphill) walk to Waverly Station. The room was large for UK standards for sure. I would stay here again, even though I wish breakfast were available.

Late booking to this hotel. Not too far from city centre, 10-15 minute walk. Hotel is within a terrace of town houses, there were lots of staircases up and down to our room. Room was big with a big bathroom. Adequate amenities. We left a note for housekeeping regarding our preference for still not sparkling water which was heeded. They also left us plenty of milk. There is no dining facilities but there are plenty of options for breakfast locally as well as lunch/dinner. Great hotel to just drop your luggage and go & explore the city.

Great hotel, nice staff… good location. Parking very close by and free 18:30 till 08:30.. happy days

Great old victorian house.

This is a no-frills hotel and we were expecting more for the price. I should have read more closely. A 4 story hotel with no elevator. There is no AC (which I knew) but it was uncomfortable for a July stay. We had to sleep with the window open, and they did provide room fan. No elevator was a big bummer since we were on the 4th floor. Not being able to turn off the bathroom towel warmer only made the room warmer. Power outlets at each night stand had not been upgraded but they did have USB. I have a CPAP machine, so I needed real power. They did provide a power strip upon request, so I made it work. The shower water pressure was terrible. WiFi service was inconsistent. I had to switch to using personal hot spot

Great stay! clean, lovely room well remodled in a classic building on a quiet, lovely street, centrally located. One drawback of the old charming building is that there's no elevator, so if you have top floor room be prepared to walk some stairs.

Room was extremely clean and comfortable. The bathroom was amazing!

The reception staff were exceptional but the manager Len was so incompetent it was laughable. I was unable to sleep in my room due to a mouse infestation so needed to share my sons room. I am still waiting for my refund on the room because Len refused to refund the room because he claimed I said the mouse was “cute”. On the second night I declined another room as it was up several flights of stairs and would mean me repacking my bags for a second time. Since this room was only offered late in the day I did not want to be further inconvenienced. Len was a basil faulty type character and totally incapable of dealing with what should have been a simple situation

Very clean and huge room, good location, kind staff , ıf I come again to Edinburgh I will stay here.

I can’t wrap my head around how this hotel has four stars. The condition of the bathroom in our room was poor. The toilet and other fixtures were wobbly, and there was built-up grime throughout the shower. The sink didn’t drain properly. This isn’t a housekeeping issu, this bathroom clearly needed a deep cleaning and a renovation. It feels misleading for this hotel to be marketed as clean.

A rat sneaked into the room on the first night of my stay. Horrified, it woke my mum up as she quickly attempted to trap it in the cupboard as to not damage our clothes or the luggage in the room. The next morning, i complained about this to the hotel staff, who at the reception, were very kind and helpful. They said the rat probably came from a small crack within the outside walls, and they switched our rooms. They also agreed to provide a refund for the first night, which was now ruined. However, the problem amplified within the upper management. The receptionist told me my complaint would be "forwarded to the person handling refunds" in order to provide me with one. Let me be clear, as i'm writing this I stayed in the hotel 2 weeks ago and i have YET to be approached or contacted. I asked the reception again and again for any updates on my case and they kept saying i'd be contacted "soon". Now one of the 2 things are probably happening here. 1) Either the process of refunding one night really takes this hotel more than 2 weeks (very unlikely), or 2) The management in charge of it is stalling on purpose, not contacting me in the hopes of me just forgetting about it and moving on so that they wouldn't have to reach into their pockets to pay a fair night's refund. I don't know about you, but the latter seems what's happening to me right now. The reception is really friendly, it's just the management that seems to be the problem here.

Lovely staff and clean room

on first glance, the room and building was clean and tidy and staff were helpful. However, on our second day I spotted a mouse in my bedroom very clearly walking across the floor in front of me. initially management were reluctant to help, Instead of moving us they offered to hoover the room without even removing the rodent. A rodent infestation was they offered to move me to another room but couldn’t accommodate my son and was saying there wasn’t really much they could do. It was only when another guest came to complain that she had no heating for numerous days that they agreed to move us

Nice big rooms, old Scottish style. Nice staff and good location.

Room was big. Bathroom was big. Bed was comfortable.

Very poor WiFi (basement room, 106) and mobile reception. Reception required £100 pre-authorisation deposit not stated in booking terms. No bedside light - up spots above bed, felt a bit harsh. Otherwise room tidy, warm and quiet so “ok” as I got a low ish rate.

Our hotel room was huge, with 20 foot ceilings, big windows and a very large bathroom with a shower and separate soaker tub. The property was close to pubs restaurants and the royal mile and castle. Staff was friendly and the room was clean with complimentary water. We loved the hotel and would stay again

Water pressure on the shower was really weak

The room and bedding are comfortable and good in general. The bathroom however is a bit messy when the shower wets the floor. Also not enough hook in bathroom. Also no view in the basement room.

Room was very spacious

Everything was perfect. Clean, ammenities and mostly all the staff was amicable. The only thing was a bolnde woman who "recieved" us at our arrival. She was a chating with a coworker and ignored us until she finished her gossips. After that a lot of nastiness. Hopefully we bever saw her again in the remianing days. Another thing is that most doors in hotel creak the whole time. Some oil in the hinges solves this. The hotel is in a good location, although a bit far from attractions. Room was big and clean, wifi was OK and the rest of the staff very friendly

I loved that it was in a great location, both close to the airport tram and the city center. Staff was friendly and helpful with luggage.

Great character property steps away from the City Centre and Edinburgh Waverly Station. Friendly and helpful staff went out of their way to make my stay a pleasant one.

The stay was excellent, the hotel location is great, next to all the key sites and near bus and trams so very convenient, also it’s just away from the main streets so very quiet. Great rooms, very spacious and the reception members are absolutely fantastic. Had great time.

Nice, spacious, clean room, newly renovated older building. Somewhat tricky stairs with the luggage, but we were offered help. Things like soap were missing at check in, not a biggie but still. Also we requested the bedsofa to be made for my teenage son, which they forgot, and for some reason it wasn’t possible even to get sheets to do it ourselves, so we had to share bed the first night. Doable, but not what we booked. No offers of a discount or such for the inconvenience. Check in smooth, but at time for check out there was no staff at the reception, multiple guests were waiting impatiently for at least 15 minutes. I believe the hotel is a bit understaffed and hasn’t got hold of routines yet. But the staff was supernice when they were there! As there is no breakfast offered (but free coffee/Tea and granolabars, so you won’t starve!), it is up to you to find a café for that. A recommendation for a good place for breakfast would have helped, for us who don’t live in Edinburgh. ;) Biggest minus was the fan in the bathroom that was so noisy it woke everyone up if you had to use the bathroom at night.

Lovely feel to the building and rooms. I wanted quiet and convenient and got both. Staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. When traveling away from home, it can be lonely and strange. Not so at the Albany. Thanks to you.

This was perfect for our one-night stay in Edinburgh. We easily walked to the Royal Mile and appreciated how spacious the room itself was. Would definitely stay here again!

Excellent 3 night stay, I will definitely be back. The hotel is perfectly situated. Very close to the tram line to the airport (5min walk) and maybe a 10min to Waverly train station, but it’s also on a very quiet street and very close to the Royal Mile and all the sights. I have nothing negative to say. The room was spacious, the bed and bathroom were very clean and comfortable and the staff was always helpful and friendly.

In a quiet seemingly residential area but just a short walk from a busy intersection where one can pick up the tram to the airport! So, one can also get the tram FROM the airport and walk a short distance to the hotel.

Great location in a quiet street but close to everything you may need. The staff were very friendly and the room comfortable. I was delighted to have a bath but there was no plug! Eventually one was found for our third night. Breakfast supplies in the reception area was a nice touch. A great stay overall.

Quiet, very spacious accommodation. No breakfast service but not a problem given the location.
