Hampton Inn Kent/Akron Area

We stayed 4 nights, with 3 grandchildren and the pool was closed the whole time.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Kent property in May 2023 and there were very few positive experiences at the hotel. A couple items of note: 1. Beds were very poor. I am relatively young (31) and have never had a sore back from sleeping on a bed until this stay. The beds are worn down and you sink into them enough to feel the punchy box spring underneath. Additionally, there are no bedskirts around the box spring, which, although sounds minor, leads to a disheveled and run-down looking room. Dont expect this to be a glamorous stay. Finally, there is a sad excuse for a "blanket" on the bed. The primary blanket is paper thin and is more like a secondary flat sheet. There is an extra blanket (1) stuffed in the top of the armoir, but ours wasn't folded and appeared to have been used by the last guest without being washed between stays. When we went to the desk that night to get two more (because the room has two beds), we were unable to locate any staff even after ringing the bell for service. 2. We travelled here with a large family of which consisted of four children, four adults, and three elderly individuals. During the stay, the pool and elevator were both out of order. We had called before making our reservations to confirm the pool would be open, which was half the reason why the children were on the trip, and we assumed the elevators would work for the elderly in our group. Wrong on both fronts. Big inconvenience. Positives: breakfast and working AC.

A bit worn down (carpets mostly) and in need of some additional maintenance budget. Elevator was disabled because they could not seem to fix the smoke detector on it, but it would have been completely fine at 80-85% of what they charge.

The pool and gym are closed, but this is not indicated when reserving the room through hotels.com - they don't tell you this until after they check you in, and then they day bc you already checked in, they can't give a refund. Also, get this: we asked for additional towels as there were only 2 rather small towels in our room.. The front desk stated that we are only allowed 2 towels per room at a time, so we would have to bring our dirty towels to the front desk to exchange them. No joke! Also, they had no keys for the rooms, other than the master key held by the front desk, so someone from the front desk had to follow us up to our room every time and let us in with their key. Worst hotel experience of my life. Would have been funny if it hadn't been so horrible. Oh yeah: hung my coat on a coat hook, which immediately fell off the wall and slammed into my foot.

Parking was limited due to shipping containers stored in the parking lot and old furniture stacked in other parts. This also made navigating the parking lot difficult as well.

Broken luggage cart. Public areas not clean. Breakfast buffet not restocked. Coffee ran out on two of the three mornings I was there. Fitness center was nice.

The pool and pool area was not available. The elevator was not working and we were booked on the 3rd floor. Being in our late 50s, this was not only inconvenient but very uncomfortable. Stairwell was dirty with stained flooring and trash on the floor. Breakfast buffet did not have eggs, very limited selection.

The elevator was not working, the pool was not running, we had to ask for soap for our room and the breakfast was unacceptable (the waffle maker was not working.)

The room was dirty as well as the carpets and areas throughout the hotel. The staff was ok but there was no one at the desk during our stay with the exception of check in. The area around the hotel was unkept. Overall a very disappointing Hilton hotel.

Bedspread had stains, bathroom tub full of small curly hairs, the shower dispensers were not connected and sitting on the edge of the tub with one completely empty. We received towels but the beds were not made. The door latch did not work unless you picked up on the door to align it. The bathroom door scrapped across the floor. We stayed three nights and every night we had to have our room keys remade. By the third night we just stopped at the front desk to just get them remade before even trying. The breakfast was the typical hotel style breakfast but it took them 20 minutes to refill. Front desk was polite and nice. It’s obvious that no upkeep is happening. Don’t know how they keep the Hilton name.

Pet friendly hotel with clean room; parking lot and dog relief was not well lit; sketchy people in parking lot at all hours. Elevator was dirty. Lobby was clean and well appointed. Check in was quick. Dog relief area was not clean, lots of trash and feces.

Our room was not cleaned. Still had previous persons room keys on floor. The coffee pot had old used filter in it. And bottle caps shoved in corner by bed. I hope at least our bed sheets were changed

Room was very dirty. Every surface was grimy and covered in fingerprints. Potato chips on the floor by the desk. Bathroom floor was so dirty the towel was covered in dark marks after wiping up water from the shower.

Had popcorn still in bed from previous people’s stay. Trash outside hotel door was full on and overflowing till checkout

Rooms dirty

Thermostat display broken, window blind broken, dead bugs, feces still on the toilet, wished that i could provide pictures.

The room was quiet and comfortable. The hotel overall was shabby and not very well maintained. The carpets in the breakfast area needed a good cleaning, there was trash around the front door and finishes generally were peeling or chipped. Our room was clean overall, but there was stuck on paper on the grab bar in the bath.

The room seemed like it was not made up. The sheets were wrinkled and not tucked in. There were crumbs on the carpet. The products that were supposed to be mounted on the shower wall were scattered around the bathroom. There was hair in the shower. The surfaces were covered in dust. On top of that, the noise from the highway kept me up all night.

We booked a room for 5 because the website said our room would sleep 5 people. The room did not sleep 5 people, and one person had to sleep on the floor. The air conditioner was also leaking water and made the carpet wet.

Property was affordable and conveniently located near the highway, but the room was humid, and our door wouldn't actually close or lock.

Shower head is broken and was obviously not cleaned when I checked in.

The room was clean, front desk staff was nice. The bed squeaked every time we moved very loudly and the walls were very thin. We could hear people just walking by our room. And talking in the next room.

Beds very comfortable. Very clean & quiet. Breakfast was decent but unspectacular. Same meal served two days in a row.

The Hotel is very close to the highway.

Bed was uncomfortable pillows left much to be desired. The chair was the most uncomfortable art deco chair I’ve ever sat in.

Room was cold when we cheched in. do not need to turn ac on that low 60 degrees. 70 is fine.

Our room we booked the shower or tub were not working. TV also did not work. They switched our room but we booked a room with 2 beds and the one they moved is to was only 1 bed. The pool was a little dirty, very cold and the room key did not get you in. The front desk attendant has to open the door. The breakfast was ok but the Mexican Restaurant across the street was fabulous.

No one at check in desk- guest in front of us did not see sign on phone that said to call for service so line developed and we waited 10 minutes

We tried to check in around 8pm on 9/22/23. The desk clerk gave us a key to room 313 with a king bed. We opened the door and noticed the room was occupied. Luckily the guests were not there, one could imagine the scenarios that might have occurred. Went back down to the desk and was told they no didn't have any more king bedrooms so we would have to do queen beds. Was given a key to room 104 with the same results. Went to the front desk again and was told there were no more rooms available and we should wait 20 minutes for the manager to arrive. We decided to leave and asked for a refund and left. This was the worst experience we have ever had checking into a hotel, please make sure my refund is processed.

Upon check in we were told they couldn’t issue room keys so you had to be let in by a staff member each time you needed back in your room. I was given the option to cancel instead but not knowing availability at other hotels I chose to stay. The night clerk was not very friendly and took a personal call while taking us to our room. The waffle maker wasn’t making waffles correctly. Not sure if they didn’t have non stick spray or what but it was full of stuck on waffle. The parking lot had cone randomly around and construction materials taking up half the lot. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There was only 2 towels, 2 hand towels, and one washcloth. The clerk who checked us in in the afternoon was very nice and friendly.

Everything started off bad and slowly became worse, unfortunately. I checked in to the hotel and the lady did not smile or make much eye contact with me. She just really had an attitude. When we went to our room after checking in, I noticed a pillow on the bed had weird reddish brown stains on it. I had my partner take the pillow up front to get it exchanged, and when he did, the front staff gave him an attitude. Again. Since they were not hospitable, we did not bother to ask for more towels or complain about how gritty the carpet in our room felt, because they already acted like us replacing a pillow was too much for them. We found what looked like dog food on the floor of our room, which we threw in a trashbag. The outside parking lot had overflowing trash cans, especially by the front door, the pool area was dirty with old food behind one of the tables and bugs in the pool water, and the floor in our bathroom was very slippery, like someone maybe attempted to clean it but did not rinse all the cleaner off the floor. I don't know if maybe the staff had a rush before we arrived or if the place is normally maintained this poorly, but it really makes me wonder if there was any staff working at all, because with the exception of the woman working the front desk & the gentleman who checked us out the next day, I saw no other staff at this hotel. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone until they better staff it and maybe make some much-needed upgrades.

Friendly staff and maid service, great parking and plenty of good restaurants in the area.

None of the rooms had functional keys, so we had to be escorted to our room by staff every time we needed to access the room. Staff said the key system has been broken for several weeks, but I was not informed until after I checked in. People were leaving their doors unlocked to avoid the hassle, which is obviously a security issue. My family and I didn't have time to make alternate arrangements, as we were on our way to a wedding. It was fine for one night, but this place is a sh*t show. The parking lot is full of shipping containers. Elevators are under construction. My room had hair from prior occupants in the bathroom. The shower drain was clogged. The beds had only a thin fitted sheet over the mattress and no protective padding, which is just an invite for a bed bug infestation. Luckily, I didn't see any. A group was partying loudly in the hallway and no effort was made to ask them to be respectful of other guests. I've stayed in a lot of hotels, and I was not expecting anything fancy. This was barely habitable and I definitely would not have stayed more than one night. All that said, every staff member was very kind and courteous.

Was hardly anyone at the desk. Had to wait 10min for someone to come to the desk to check us in. And that wouldn’t have happened if the maintenance guy didn’t go back and get them. We sat in the lobby most of the night hanging out and several people had to wait for someone to come to the desk. Hotel was cleanish and looked updated but was done poorly. Had to change rooms because of stains on the comforter. Spider web in the corner of the bathroom with dead bugs in it. Not Hilton standard

Hotel overbooked. Front desk operator was rude about the whole situation.

Great access of I 76. Five miles to downtown Kent and several restaurants.

Bed was comfortable. The area seemed safe. Parking was easy. Hotel was clean.

Very functional and clean. Don’t expect good restaurants or conveniences near by, but it’s clean and with the right room I’m sure not too noisy.

I enjoyed a clean and quiet stay at this conveniently located Hampton Inn for visit to Kent State visit.

Good location of interstate. 10 minute drive to nice downtown and then five minutes to Kent State University.

Great for an overnight stay while our kids attended an orientation at Kent State University

There was variety for breakfast. The staff was nice. The room was clean. Very convenient for going into Kent. Not really a scenic area.

Close drive to Kent State University. Convenient and short drive for shopping for whatever you need.

Friendly, professional staff. Delicious warm breakfast assortment. Breakfast attendant did a great job replenishing and tidying. Hot drinks available in the lobby were nice. Room could use periodic vacuuming around night stands; areas are hard to reach, but would be good to do. Room was clean though.

The purpose of the stay was for an Elk's State Bowling Tournament. The room was clean, cozy, and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast was nice as well.

Room was clean & comfortable. But, both of the luggage carts were broken and frustrating to navigate; the TV had no instructions or channel guide; the breakfast was nearly empty at 7 am, and not resupplied for over a half hour.

Cold showers, poor breakfast selection by 8 AM.

The breakfast was slim, but we went an 1hour before it was over. Other than that everything was great!

Breakfast was a joke. They ran out of milk at 9am on a weekend! Get oatmeal, the ‘hot’ water is cold. No spoons, no yogurt left or refilled, no muffins. Breakfast was open till 10 so another hour left, no excuse for having nothing left. Worst was when you ask the staff if any milk, they give you attitude and not an apology for running out.

Probably the best shower I've ever had in a hotel. Very comfortable. Breakfast well stocked and varied.

We enjoyed the hotel. The mattresses and pillows were great, the room was clean, we liked the pool area. Plus the breakfast was FABULOUS for a free breakfast. It's usually just a few items but the Hampton Inn had cook your own waffles plus eggs 2 meat choices, juices, oatmeal, cereal etc. etc.The staff was very nice as well.

Our TV did not work properly and was not fixed. The breakfast included was run very poorly: no milk, no waffle batter, no orange juice, no bakery items fresh. They were out of everything with a room full of people waiting for breakfast. No hair dryers in the room, called front desk for one and was promised one but never received. A huge disappointment from other Hampton Inns we've stayed at before.
