Magnuson Hotel Ely

Very clean, lot needs work.

I was looking for a hotel without smoke and that's why we stayed here. This hotel has two locations and there was a sign on the door to go down the street to the other location to get checked in. The parking spaces are very small. The Wi-Fi didn't work, the TV didn't work and the shower didn't drain well. The ice machine was broken. Traffic was loud because it's so close to the street. The bed was somewhat comfortable and clean. There was coffee in the room but no cream or sugar. If all you do is sleep (like the dead) it's okay.

No frig or microwave no ice machine

Secured parking was minimal. No fridge in the room.

Super fast check in, room has everything I need, fridge and microwave. Perfect

This hotel has two properties on the same street. On Expedia.com shows photos of the newer on, but our room was assigned the old one. The appearance made us wanted to look for other hotels, but we were too tired to do so after 8 hours driving in a frigid air. Inside of the room was clean with updated bathroom/a sink/a large countertop. Found no microwave/refrigerator in the room which were on the Expedia images. The lady at the front desk bought one to our room from the other property. I was so grateful for her prompt action along with a good assortment of breakfast items including whole wheat items. A gas station is conveniently across from this motel.

Ice. machine not working. Office not manned. Needed to g o a block and a half to check in.But I must say the room was exceptionally clean. Couldn’t get Wi Fi password.

This is a retro 50's hotel with ceramic wall tile in the bathroom. Cracks in plaster and ceramic tile from settling. Carpet was badly stained. They had put Febreeze beads in the air conditioner vents in an attempt to hide odors in the room. Parking lot was in disrepair. Locks on doors were flimsy and didn't feel safe. No staff in am with a note that check out paperwork would be in the mailbox and to put key with appropriate paperwork--no paperwork in mailbox so just dropped the keys and hoped they'd figure out which room they were for.

The staff were nice. But the first room they gave me the window didn't close. I asked for a different room, and its window didn't close either. The third room had a window that closed but the latch was a bit flimsy. I still didn’t feel totally safe when the door chain was dangling on one screw. The parking lot was totally torn up and the trash bin outside the room was overflowing with beer cans. There was no ice. I think maybe they're remodeling? I would check on that before booking. I felt a little ripped off with the price I paid given the condition of the place.

Older but clean inside -- Outside, including pavement, is in disrepair

We open the door to the smell of death . The carpets had giant piss and poop stains the couch was covered with a sheet .it looked like something out of a horror movie. We got out quick before we got attacked by bed bugs . In all my life i have never saw a hotel this disgusting. Went back office and canceled it . They said we would have to get our money back from hotel . Com . Also the hotel in picture has a note on door that sends you to the other location.

This was so bad that we didiny stay. We ended up sleeping in our car at a rest stop because it felt safer. We had a late check in so nobody was there (midnight) and they were accommodating with that. But when we entered the parking lot there were a lot of people loitering around and looked unsavory. When we got into the room it smelled awful. There were stains all over the carpet and couch and the carpet was wet in multiple spots. It was disgusting. I can’t believe Expedia works with this “hotel”

Shower water was luke warm. Sheets on one bed was dirty. There was a dirty towel on back of bathroom door. Parking was cramped. Price was cheap. Bed was okay. Breakfast was okay.

Worked out fine. Vintage roadside motel downtown. Room was clean and updated.

Hotel was dated but clean bathroom and bed. Breakfast was good variety. Good value for money. Staff were friendly and polite.

Room was old, and quite dirty looking. Huge stain on the carpet, and the couch was awful looking.

Dirtiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Hair in the bed sheets, and carpet made my socks black.

This property was absolutely horrible. It was very dirty. There was animal pee marks throughout the carpet. when we arrive to check in, we walked in to the front desk we rang the bell we’ve called rang the bell multiple times we were there for about 35 40 minutes before somebody comes walking into the office to help us check in our room. We asked her why nobody was in the office. She said she was out doing laundry! in a completely other part of the building.

The property is old but was clean. Staff was nice. I would stay again if traveling though there.

This was a surprise. The low price led me to low expectations but this is a little gem for a one night stay. Interior was clean and in pretty good shape. Breakfast was adequate and staff was very pleasant.

TV did not work

Room was clean but poor wifi and had problems working the TV.

The GM was great... Very accommodating and tried to do her best. She moved us from the really bad room to one that was a little better. No A/C, no TV, no breakfast as advertised due to lack of staff. GM said she would refund me so I am hoping she will honor that promise. I would not recommend this property until the owner puts some money into it... He should be ashamed

quiet and comfortable

This property Is in extreme disrepair on the outside. At least the room is clean. Lots of noise from traffic and train. This is barely a basic motel. Won’t be staying here again.

At first look I was concerned what the motel looked like from the outside. The interior was a pleasant surprise. Smaller room but updated. I feel it was worth the money.

Older, dated property. Room fine, better than initial impression of the property. Staff welcoming and helpful. WiFi not strong enough.

Parking lots were covered in snow piles making it difficult to gather my belongings to my room. The internet given to us wasn't available to use and due to the random service going out makes it difficult to do my things online.

We only needed a place to stay for one night. We had to go to another nearby motel to check in and call the clerk who was at another motel at the time… she was very nice however and helpful. Parking was limited but we lucked in for our small trailer/car combo. Room was clean. Never felt unsafe. Pet friendly. Located downtown. If you only need a place to sleep. It is fine.

I literally had to go on a scavenger hunt to find this hotel. I almost broke down crying after being on the road for ten hours and arriving here at 1:30 am. We arrive & the office is dark, closed and not a person in sight. There are two typed & printed notes on the door. One says something about winter hours (it’s July?) & give a phone number & the other says that this office is closed and go to the other location “down the road on the other side” and also gives a phone number (a different one). This strikes me as odd, but whatever I’m exhausted and just want to go to bed. So I drive down the road and look “on the other side” for a while but town ends and there’s no second location. I should’ve got phone numbers down the first time, but I didn’t so when I couldn’t find the second loco, I drive BACK to the first one to get the numbers to call. First number, disconnected. Second number, no answer. At this point I’m ready to eat the coat and just get a different place but I decide to drive down the other way just in case. Luckily, we found it. This new door had the same two notes as the other but also a NEW note that said if you had a reservation, your key would be “in the mailbox on the white pillar” behind us. Sure enough, our keys were in there. Happy ending right!? No. We go to open the door, & it unlocks, but won’t open. I try for ten minutes with no success and just decide to sleep in the car. Short story long, my kid finally got the door open. Terrible night. 0/10

Listed as a hotel but just a motel. Counter person said it had been closed for a year so took us to the other Magnuson in town.

A very nice room at a good rate. The room was very comfortable. The service was phenomenal! I will be staying here again!

Missing a towel. Breakfast room locked 1 hour after advertised time. No one answered phone numbers posted on front door when help was needed. Bed was wobbly and leaning to one side. Needed replacing. Soap was so thin it broke apart in shower. TV was difficult to work and DISH screen was on all night long - no shut off. Desk manager was very nice, courteous as was her husband who managed a sister-property up the street. Couldn’t have been kinder. That’s what surprised us when we got into our room.

no one was in the office when i arrived. i saw a phone number posted on the door so i called it and an abrupt person said 'just a minute' when i asked to check in my room

Arrived with snow falling, no one in reception. Followed instructions, walking around outside in cold to check other rooms for hotel staff, found no one anywhere. Rooms appear torn apart and filthy through windows. Called number provided, no answer and could not leave message. Finally heard from manager who apologized and said she would reimburse charges, still waiting.

Convenient location within town. Located close to many attractions and dining facilities. Rooms very nice and clean. Comfortable beds, nice amenities, and modern, spacious drawers and night stands.

No one at the Hotel when I arrived. Had to make three calls and wait for a person to arrive 20 minutes. The internet kept dropping out, I had to re-enter the password. The hotel is located on a busy main road and has a small square parking lot exposed to all rooms, The windows are single paned. So the stay was noisy all night and it I could hear every vehicle that pulled in…apparently this is a truck stop town, because at 3:45 am the road noise increased. There was an old small refrigerator in the room that was vibrating and loud. I had to unplug it! My stay was not restful, and I could not sleep, so I left before the free breakfast was being served. I would have been better off driving past Ely than staying at the hotel.

Very freindly staff and GM. Location is walkable to amenities

The parking lot was a real mess and the area sketchy. I didn’t see any security cameras either. Discouraging if you have stuff in your car. The office was supposed to open at 7 AM for continental breakfast but at 7:15 the door was still locked. I just wanted coffee and finally at 7:30 someone showed up but I assumed they would have to make the coffee, so I just went across the street. Otherwise it was clean and there is an attempt to update the place. The bed was comfortable.

I like the quick drive up and park plus the easy check in. The place is centrally located to the old town shops and casinos. Also, walking distance to town's park and historical sites.

Was passing through town for the night and was looking for a place that was clean, comfortable, and affordable. This place checked all the boxes. Ely is a small town and the area immediately around the property wasn't terrible or anything, but it's not overly inviting either.

The front office staff was super nice and helpful. The room was older, but clean. The location allowed us to walk the downtown and visit their shops. There was casinos too, if that's your gambit.

Due to no control of motel, new highway construction out front made it a bit of a squeeze and new construction next door also added to noise. Staff was most excellent, very friendly and accommodating. Older motel yet served our needs.

Great value, right downtown, pleasant staff.

It was much better than I expected for a 2-star level motel. More amenities than most accommodations in that price range. Good choice of breakfast items. My room looked quite updated.

Nicely renovated older motel. The room was clean and cozy. Breakfast and coffee offerings opened at 7 a.m., a little too late for my liking, so I missed it. I suggest a small charging station/clock on one of the nightstands for convenience. Overall, it was a great night's stay, and the price was great!

Check in was fine, but we never got breakfast and no one could get into office for us to sign out. We left the key cards under the office door

The owners were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast offering was very good, many choices and ample amounts. For a small independent motel it was way better than many of the chains! Would definitely stay there again.

Room was clean and comfortable. Fine for one night. Property is very run down. Breakfast was included but lobby was locked and closed in the morning so we were unable to access. Disappointing. Help arrived at 7:40am. Breakfast was supposed to be avail at 7am. Tried to contact manager but no response. Next time we will pay a little bit more and find a better spot.
