An iconic feature of the town is Barmouth Bridge, an over 150-year-old railway viaduct across the Mawddach Estuary. It is half a mile in length, with a wooden promenade suitable for pedestrians or cyclists which now forms part of the Wales Coast Path and the Lon Las Cymru Cycle Network. Nantcol waterfalls are just a few miles away and offer a great day out, a perfect place for a picnic. Porthmadog is 10 miles; an attractive harbour town, it is home to the Ffestiniog Steam Railway and the Welsh Highland Railway. The attractive Italianate village of Portmeirion is nearby and a 'must visit' whilst in the area. Blaenau Ffestiniog is a historic mining town is a short drive of 25 minutes, best known for being the slate capital of the world, having recently been awarded the acclaimed UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area is a mecca for any outdoor enthusiasts, with bike trails, climbing, kayaking, and walking routes in abundance.
