Long story short, fire alarm malfunctioned 3 times and we were expected to wait outside unsheltered in the cold and rain. Macarthur restaurant staff were bad and we ended up driving to mcdonalds as it was the only thing open at 7pm on a Sunday in the area. Elevators were not operational and we had to climb 5 flights of stairs. The walls were so thin, we could hear the neighbor taking a leak and flushing the toilet throught the night, amongst other noises. Terrible experience, but I felt even worse for the bride whose wedding and wedding night were interrupted by the hotels issues. Will not be back. Longer review on Google.

View from zulu lounge is fabulous; waitstaff Vinny was terrific, bed was very comfortable. Breakfast choices good. Too noisy in the tavern for dinner on Wednesday but lovely at the lounge. Could hear train from mountain view room - but not a total deal breaker. Good proximity to West Point museum and welcome center. Enjoyed sense of history throughout the hotel.

It was a beautiful Saturday evening and the touted rooftop cocktail bar that overlooks the Hudson was closed. Also the room air conditioner was old, loud and ineffective. The room was uncomfortably warm making it difficult to sleep.

The hotel was beautiful and felt relaxing and nice. I didn’t like that when we checked out, they added another $25 hotel fee. My reservation was FULLY paid in advance and there were enough extra fees tagged to the original rate. Not sure why they charge me more money without notifying me in advance.

There is an issue of smoke odor from the lobby fireplace permeating the halls of the hotel. When I spoke to the front desk they acknowledged they had heard the complaint before. This needs to be not just heard but addressed. That the smell could travel thru the air system all the way to the 5th floor, should be terribly concerning and immediately addressed. Also, that The Thayer Hotel would join this trend of "nickel and dime-ing" guests for every little thing is disappointing. In addition to the room rate, now there\'s the daily resort fee, then a fee for a crib, a fee for a refrigerator, a fee for wi-fi....etc. Why not simply be honest and post an increase in the room rate and stop all these ridiculous extraneous charges? President Biden is considering a bill to stop airlines from charging these kinds of "hidden fees", I\'m hoping that hotels will also be scrutinized for the same practices.

I would not recommend staying here at all, in fact I am not sure who is in charge weather the DOD or a private company but since it is on the base of West Point, I can't help but blame the government. This place is so run down and dirty it is unbelievable. It is advertised as fabulous. I cannot think who could say that. It stinks was full of bugs so old like never renovated. The front desk staff was horrible actually just mean, upon checking in, not even because we complained. The room and bathroom were horrid. I would not even suggest going to see West Point because there is no where to stay when visiting,and this should not be the place. If you visit stay 30 minutes away and drive there. Er were there for a sporting event so it was convenient but AWFUL. The Patton Bar stunk so bad of mold we could not even enter. George would be ashamed!!!

We were lucky enough to get a last minute stay at Thayer for our trip. The staff was super helpful and friendly. They were great with recommendations for local places to play golf and dine. The room and hotel were clean. There are reviews that say there’s noise from planes and trains but we didn’t hear a thing.

Room was so small and very dated. Did not look like the pictures. For the price, room should have been updated. The property is gorgeous and basically the only nice hotel around. Therefore, you have a gem, so you should reinvest and update the place.

My son and I stayed here while we were on a visit at Westpoint. We were very excited as the hotel is marketed as very high end. Parts of the hotel is indeed high end but the important aspects are not. The room does not come standard with a mini fridge, which I have never seen before. It is an additional charge to have one placed in your room. The AC in the room was VERY loud and old and leaked on the rug in the room. There is also a freight train line right next to the hotel and a freight will run through ALL night long and blows its whistle each time. The restaurant service in all three restaurants in the hotel was stellar. The people working there were so kind and friendly but the food was not worth the high prices. Then, upon checkout, there was an additional $25 service charge for each night that I was not aware of as I paid in full before arriving. I would not choose to stay at the Thayer Hotel again.

We arrived after a long day of traveling with the hope of getting a bite and going to bed. We get checked in after parking. The hotel informs me they have complimentary valet. Uh, I just parked. Any thought to give us a head up in the welcome email? Unfortunately, the restaurant was not good, I left a review on Open Table about that. Then we got to our room only to find out the DJ for a wedding was literally set up right outside our window. They didn't mention anything at check-in. We were so tired we tried to go to bed. My son did fine, teenagers (haha). Not me though. The DJ was finally done at 10:15 pm. I was able to get some sleep before our 3 am wake-up but the bed was really springy (if that's a word). Personally, I would expect some communication from the hotel about the DJ before I got my room. Or at least give rooms near the party to the people going to the party.

The property was on West Point which was the reason we were there. The rooms were very nice and the property clean. Staff were unbelievable in customer service and did so with a smile. Our compliment is that there isn't any refrigerator or microwave in the rooms. We went out to dinner each night and had leftovers, but couldn't take them back to the room for later. This is the reason going forward we may stay elsewhere

Beautiful hotel— clean and comfortable. Loved being on the Hudson and Westpoint. When I checked in and let them know that we might not be able to stay the second night— they told me sorry and that I would need to discuss this with hotels.com as they booked the room. I was charged for two nights after leaving unexpectedly the second day— told me to contact hotels.com as they could do nothing. Contacted Hotels.com who said they had to reach out the Thayer who then said no refund and then after I called Thayer they said no one was able to make the decision until Monday — confused with the actions of the manager -left a message with the reservation office person and have yet to hear and it’s Monday night. Hotels.com has communicated twice with me to let me know the Thayer has yet to respond. Poor service and communication. Westpoint is amazing but Thayer is way overrated.

I have to recognize two individuals who were great. My flight was canceled and I was not able to arrive on Friday. I spoke to the front desk manager Emily and she was extremely helpful. Could have passed me off since I had made reservations via Expedia but she didn’t. The second person was the main valet kid. I say kid because he could have not been more than 20 years old. I feel bad I cannot remember his name. Super friendly, helpful and was quick to get my car and was quick to get my car. He was running a well oiled valet machine.

Could have passed me off since I had made reservations via Expedia but she didn’t. The second person was the main valet kid. I say kid because he could have not been more than 20 years old. I feel bad I cannot remember his name. Super friendly, helpful and was quick to get my car and was quick to get my car. He was running a well oiled valet machine.

I would not recommend staying here at all, in fact I am not sure who is in charge weather the DOD or a private company but since it is on the base of West Point, I can't help but blame the government. This place is so run down and dirty it is unbelievable. It is advertised as fabulous. I cannot think who could say that. It stinks was full of bugs so old like never renovated. The front desk staff was horrible actually just mean, upon checking in, not even because we complained. The room and bathroom were horrid. I would not even suggest going to see West Point because there is no where to stay when visiting,and this should not be the place. If you visit stay 30 minutes away and drive there. Er were there for a sporting event so it was convenient but AWFUL. The Patton Bar stunk so bad of mold we could not even enter. George would be ashamed!!!

We were lucky enough to get a last minute stay at Thayer for our trip. The staff was super helpful and friendly. They were great with recommendations for local places to play golf and dine. The room and hotel were clean. There are reviews that say there’s noise from planes and trains but we didn’t hear a thing.

Long story short, fire alarm malfunctioned 3 times and we were expected to wait outside unsheltered in the cold and rain. Macarthur restaurant staff were bad and we ended up driving to mcdonalds as it was the only thing open at 7pm on a Sunday in the area. Elevators were not operational and we had to climb 5 flights of stairs. The walls were so thin, we could hear the neighbor taking a leak and flushing the toilet throught the night, amongst other noises. Terrible experience, but I felt even worse for the bride whose wedding and wedding night were interrupted by the hotels issues. Will not be back. Longer review on Google.

It was not horrible but very average stay. Cot was ‘unsleepable’. Fridge is extra $. The view of the Hudson was really nice. Overall, the hotel has an interesting history, huge stone presence which is very caool, and the walls are adorned with old men in stuffy uniforms even in the room. Kind of museum like. It’s a good location as far as reaching activities within a reasonable distance. Front desk staff were nice, as well as the housekeeping staff. The restaurants had very limited hours but the local town Highland Falls, a sleepy town with very limited dining options, unless pizza is fine. I would fine another place to stay if I visited the area. But that’s just me.

Perfect hotel to stay at when visiting West Point, It's beautiful property located just outside the Thayer gate to the US Military Academy , it overlooks the Hudson River. walking distance to west point museum and visit center. Easy to take free shuttle bus to campus. Staff was super friend. Young girl in front dest gave me big help. I am so appreciated for her help.

I came back to the Thayer after a 11 year hiatus that we planned as a birthday visit/dinner. Our visit was wonderful.We enjoyed our stay and exploring the campus. Our dinner at MacArthur’s (That I was excited for) was underwhelming to say the least.It severely dampened what was otherwise a wonderful evening. The setting of the restaurant is stunning. The salads were excellent. When the main dishes arrived, the scallops and the beef short ribs, this is when the meal took a turn. Neither my wife nor I would care to have either dish again. It was disappointing at a restaurant of this caliber.

Staff was awesome!!! The room we were in while very full of history in my opinion needs se attention. Bed was great! Furniture needs attention either retire it ir tidy it up, old English and tighten some screws etc. Food at the restaurant was pricey bit delicious steak!!!!!! Bruch was very good!!!! Truly did enjoy the history of the lobby!!!!!

Wonderful, historic hotel with lots of charm and unique architecture. I can’t say anything negative about the hotel property itself. However, at all costs,, avoid the MacArthur dining room. Dismal dinner.

Excellent property. Great service by front desk. Terrible service at the Zulu deck because they were extremely understaffed on a very busy night. Staff at Zulu were helpful and worked hard but not enough staff so we waited an unacceptable time for both drink and food orders.

The hotel and staff were overall excellent except for the female waitress on Saturday morning breakfast . The dinner waitress was outstanding. The Saturday morning hot buffet breafast food was not hot at all . It clearly was not worth the price and the service was terrible .

My family and I loved our stay at the Hotel Thayer. The accommodations were excellent as was the location. We dined at the Zulu restaurant overlooking the Hudson and the Patton restaurant. We enjoyed both our meals. We toured West Point and took in the sites of the Hudson Valley. We would definitely return to this hotel. My only complaint was that breakfast was not included in our stay, something I always enjoy.

I will consider the hotel experience differently than the restaurant, as the latter can operate as its own business – which I still would rate highly. It was a quiet time of year. For a mid-week getaway, it was plush and quiet, nice views, and great bed. The ambience presented by the building and castle-like regality helped add to attainable austerity – with the only tiny wrinkles being accessible snacking opportunities from vending machines (4th floor and 2nd floor only, unless the lobby shop was open). Breakfast was not included for my stay, which didn't matter for me, and offered standard continental fare. That each room was dedicated to a graduate added to a museum feel. Multiple options for hanging out were also available from a pub option and rooftop bar, yet we did not partake in either.
