A short trip will lead you to the captivating medieval Hexham Abbey, standing tall over the lush open space of The Sele, and explore the tales of the oldest prison in Britain, Hexham Old Gaol. Step even further back in time at Corbridge Roman Town on Hadrian's Wall, a major site of Roman Britain. The Border Country, Northumbrian coast, Kielder Forest with cycling and watersports, Beamish Open Air Museum and Durham Cathedral are all within easy motoring distance, while the Gateshead Metro Centre (one of the largest shopping centres in Europe) can be found 20 miles to the east.
