My husband and have stayed here before and was always nice and welcoming however, this stay was terrible. The bedroom was unkempt, no toilet roll, bed linen was crumpled had seen better days. There was one person checking us in, serving at rhe bar too. I certainly won't be back. We have submitted a formal complaint and looking for compensation. Please dont book your wasting you well earned cash. Jacqueline allan

First, the positives: the bar was nice and the food fantastic (really well cooked, tasty and good portions for the price), staff were always friendly and polite, too. As a pub - no complaints. However, as a hotel there were definitely concerns and functional issues. If it had been more than one night, we would have demanded a refund and left. Room/bed: We booked a "deluxe king room" that was allegedly a suite, but the reality did not match the description at all. All one room (apart from the bathroom) and the bed was double width, but shorter than normal. The "coffee maker" was a kettle and some sachets. Housekeeping: Not convinced they had been in before we arrived. Bedding was visually clean and not smelly, but not neatly made. An old newspaper was still on the side stand and McDonald's rubbish was still in the bin. TV: no aerial/digital connection, so we had to sign-in to iPlayer to use it. Shower: broken. The head could not be adjusted, its cap just came away in our hands, as it was clearly broken and just balanced back in place, and then we realised there was only a dribble of ice-cold water. We reported the issues and staff did attend the room, but none of it got sorted and an offer to move us to a different room was later retracted because now the whole hotel had plumbing issues...

Room extremely dirty Shower tray was unclean with dirt at bottom Corners of toilet and rooms full of dust Radiators dusty Window sill and skirting had not been cleaned for months Moved to a different room- Spent at least 15 minutes getting the correct key from receptionist - eventually was given a master key since they could not get a key for the room one light in bathroom not working Smoke detector missing from roof Receptionist was pleasant and helpful but requires training Gentleman on duty told us the reason for the room not being cleaned was that the housekeeper was rushed to hospital the night before but that was not substantiated by other staff Another member of staff said that the person cleaning the room had only been in post for a month so he was bound to make mistakes! The gentleman also questioned, infront of other people, why I had bar glasses in my bag - very embarrassing! I explained that the girl behind the bar who was also the receptionist said to take the glasses with me up to the bedroom Dreadful experience overall
