Awesome location, and it’s one of two hotels in the valley, so there’s not much competition. Room was ok, modern big bathroom but as it was top floor, care needs to be taken to avoid constantly bumping your head on the sloping ceiling. FOH Staff were great and very friendly. When Katy was there, everything seemed to work fine. When she wasn’t, things were different. There was a new staff member who was single handedly taking evening meal orders, manning the bar, reception, waiting on tables, etc, all with a very commendable calm and apologetic demeanor, but 35 mins for our standard Sunday roasts to appear seemed a bit long. But we weren’t in a rush, so no problem. There was a different staff member on duty at breakfast the next day and 20 mins for breakfast to come also seemed a long time to wait, especially as we then had other things we’d sooner have been doing. Apparently Katy was poorly, but it would be worthwhile having a contingency plan in place if possible. Gardens are lovely, with some all-weather furniture. Super- warm drying room, which is very much appreciated, esp in this location. Best thing about this place is the location, with paths up to the Langdale Pikes right out the back of the hotel.

Fabulous location at the foot of Stickell Ghyll in the Langdale Valley. Perfect for hikers. Food offering was rather unimaginative, however, with nothing for veggies or vegans. (Old Dungeon Ghyll 20 mins walk up the road offers a bit more variety). Dining room also rather gloomy - needs a makeover - while the walkers bar is a bit dominated by sport TV. Drying room for wet weather gear also not fit for purpose. But a great stay nevertheless.

The hotel is in a great location . The weekend was marred by the water supply being broken and affected the facilities over two days . The staff did their best to apologise but no compensation was offered .

Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Comfortable rooms with great breakfasts. We were lucky with the weather so were able to appreciate the well maintained gardens.

Lovely hotel situated deep within the Langdale valley. Fantastic walking options from the front door. The restaurant & bar are a very welcome oasis at the end of a day’s walking. Gorgeous views to be had all around. Ample parking available. Our bathroom could’ve done with a bit of work (extractor fan not working), but otherwise very comfortable and recommended.

Good value for money - great breakfast. Great location. Car park potentially too small when fully booked. Thankfully the pub next door is presently closed. Staff really friendly. Really enjoyed our stay overall and hope to be back at some point.

Obviously a very busy place for both lodging & food, The staff went over & above to make sure we were fed, okay It had taken a little longer than expected but the wait is worth it. The Hotel was impeccably clean & the room was comfortable and well laid out, the cleaners there do probably the best job I have seen to date (well done!) I would definitely stay again so my advise to anyone reading is don't hesitate it's a great place!

The hotel was generally untidy and tired looking. The first room we were allocated had an unmade bed and obviously hadn’t been serviced. Breakfast was ordered and arrived 15 minutes later with cold undercooked bacon and cold overdone eggs, I didn’t eat any of it. Overall very disappointing.

Very poor house keeping, first day we arrived the toilet wasn't cleaned as it had dirty poo stains, my girlfriend mentioned this to me the next day and she disinfected it herself, had I known then I would have told the staff to clean it, on top of this they didn't take the bins out in our room, just flung the duvet on top of the bed in a very untidy manner, never replenished the toilet rolls or the tea tray. On the Thursday we left the sign to make up our room and they didn't even bother, when we came back they clearly hadn't been in our room. Mentioned this to a lady at the front desk when we checked out and was told I would get an email from management that day but haven't received anything yet. Food was very pricey as well so we mostly ate out instead.

Beautiful setting but in need of a little TLC. Staff were very friendly and helpful but too few in numbers - food service was slow although very good quality. No staff on reception, you have to find someone from behind the bar and our room was not made up despite handing in the form at reception to request this. Musty/damp smell on top floor. Also limited choice at breakfast - no fruit!

Disappointing to be honest, the bathroom was very dirty and the room was basic and out dated. The mattress was extremely hard. The breakfast was average, no juice left and the eggs over cooked.

beautiful surrounding, property is dated but clean, room are small but very usable, good size bathroom with good standard of toiletries provided, Lovely and helpful staff, Breakfast was great and cooked to order. Overall I was bit apprehensive reading all the negative reviews but found the hotel to be a clea , welcoming and value for money and ideal pad for one night stay

An excellent location and base, lovely staff, lovely breakfast. Clean room (no.10). No idea why some have left negative comments. I wasn’t expecting this quality and as a result very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the stay for the money. Well done Dungeon Ghyll - we’ll be back for sure!! Overall, great stay; the location is amazing, beautiful views, quiet (the only noise coming is from rooms), good starting point for hiking Crinkle Crags, Bowfell or Langdale Pikes. Room was ok; bed very comfortable, big TV, tea&coffee making facilities, hairdryer could be better (very short cord); the main issue for me was the noise from other rooms (thin walls or simply noisy guests) and a bit of problem with the window. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast only starts from 8.00am, a bit limited choice when you stay over 4 nights; hot food is cooked to order so expect a bit of delay, porridge was great. Evening meal - tried the burger and it was tasty but Sunday menu was quite reduced and the "evening" roast was a bit overcooked. Would happily stayed again as views are stunning and it feels a bit like a retreat away from the crowds / the city. Bus service 516 starts from 10.00am until 7pm every 2hrs but expect delays due to the narrow roads, around 30-40min to get to Ambleside.

A lovely place to stay no doubt. We had a comfortable 3 nights stay. The staff were lovely. The location was amazing. The rooms were a bit small. We did have a cotbed but it could still be a bit bigger for the kind of hotel it is. The mattress were a bit on the harder side for our liking but it depends on what you are used to. The hotel was a bit too hot for the weather. We had to keep our window open slighly and turn off the room heating completely but it was still a bit hot as the lobby was very hot. But overall it was a memorable stay and i would go back again mainly just for the service and location.

The location is absolutely breathtaking nestled in the heart of the Lake District, easy access to stunning walks. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Food was particularly good, impressive. Room was a bit chilly and shower not great, but you can’t have everything for such a competitive price. Bed was very comfortable.

A great base for walking the Langdale fells, the bar and lounge are cosy, and the restaurant very friendly. Food was good too. The room was very comfortable with lovely views in two aspects. Will definitely go again.

Great location, right at the bottom of the Dungeon Ghyll. Staff were really nice, and worked hard to make everyone happy. Whole place looking tired and dated now (or oddly modernised), in need of sympathetic renovation back to a classic Lakeland hotel style.

Awesome location, and it’s one of two hotels in the valley, so there’s not much competition. Room was ok, modern big bathroom but as it was top floor, care needs to be taken to avoid constantly bumping your head on the sloping ceiling. FOH Staff were great and very friendly. When Katy was there, everything seemed to work fine. When she wasn’t, things were different. There was a new staff member who was single handedly taking evening meal orders, manning the bar, reception, waiting on tables, etc, all with a very commendable calm and apologetic demeanor, but 35 mins for our standard Sunday roasts to appear seemed a bit long. But we weren’t in a rush, so no problem. There was a different staff member on duty at breakfast the next day and 20 mins for breakfast to come also seemed a long time to wait, especially as we then had other things we’d sooner have been doing. Apparently Katy was poorly, but it would be worthwhile having a contingency plan in place if possible. Gardens are lovely, with some all-weather furniture. Super- warm drying room, which is very much appreciated, esp in this location. Best thing about this place is the location, with paths up to the Langdale Pikes right out the back of the hotel.

Check in was fine, rooms nice and cozy, fresh linen and towels. Toiletries provided very nice. Staff were very helpful and willing to accommodate our requests. Food to a high standard and plentiful. Breakfast cooked to order. A very pleasant stay. Thank you.

Check in was quick and easy. Dinner was good. Breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked. Staff was very friendly. We were stayed just for one night. Was really bonus that we were allowed to.leave our car in hotel car park until before 2 pm after we checked out, so we can hikes to Stickle Tarn. Great location definitely recomended.

The property is very good. However our experience wasn’t the best. We arrived at the hotel at 8:00 pm and as we were riding all day. We were tired and hungry. We went straight to the restaurant/pub and explain that we had just arrived, that we need to check in and also that we wanted some food. The lady said that because they were busy it wouldn’t be possible for the kitchen to take our order. Bearing in mind this was at exactly 8:03pm and on the paper which the same person gave to us said that on Saturdays the kitchen will be open until 8:15 and specifically stated last orders would be at 8:15. Very disappointed with the customer service. Apart from that, as stated above very nice property and the rooms were ok.

Thank you to the staff, particularly the manager, for looking after us on our stay. There was a hiccup with their booking system meaning one of our rooms wasn't available but they had it all under control and resolved very quickly and generously bought us a welcome drink for our 'trouble'. The level of customer service stayed the same right across the four days. The hotel menu was good and the food very good. The location was ideal and given the good service we experienced it was no surprise that the hotel was full and the walkers bar full of non-residents for lunch and dinner. The room was good, the bathroom very good and clean. Only downside for me was the pillows were a bit solid for me, but the bed was comfortable. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Perfect location in a stunning part of the Lake District. Perfect base for numerous hikes in the area. Room very comfortable and clean. Food very good, but service was a little erratic. Staff very helpful and welcoming.

Hotel food was very nice. Bit of a wait but food was worth waiting for. Only problem was I paid on credit card when booking, then charged again when checking out. No answer when phoned hotel, hope to get my refund. Love the area and the hotel is perfect for the fells.

Amazing hotel lovely staff had a great night even the young man in charge made sure we were fed when it was late finn.one downside was breakfast I know they were busy but the young lady serving came across quite rude and ignorent rather than walk past customers just say we apologise for the delay and explain customers would understand.would not stop us staying there again amazing location amazing hotel just that one little downside 👍

The property was slightly off the main roads which to me was perfect, you have some amazing countryside and scenery to admire and explore. The hotel was lovely and all the staff were friendly. The food was really nice, and the room was nice and clean and comfy, i stayed for business but will definitely be back for personal to explore more.

The location is absolutely breathtaking nestled in the heart of the Lake District, easy access to stunning walks. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Food was particularly good, impressive. Room was a bit chilly and shower not great, but you can’t have everything for such a competitive price. Bed was very comfortable.

My wife and I and the two dogs decided to stay at the new dungeon ghyll for a weekend hiking. Everything was perfect. Absolutely stunning location and the room was clean with a stunning view. Staff were amazing and made the stay a joy. We loved it so much, we have booked to go back later in the year. Thanks to the staff. See you soon.

Lovely hotel situated deep within the Langdale valley. Fantastic walking options from the front door. The restaurant & bar are a very welcome oasis at the end of a day’s walking. Gorgeous views to be had all around. Ample parking available. Our bathroom could’ve done with a bit of work (extractor fan not working), but otherwise very comfortable and recommended.

Great as usual! We’ve been here several times but met a member of staff we had never met before. A lovely lady. So friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was great. We love it here.

Fabulous location at the foot of Stickell Ghyll in the Langdale Valley. Perfect for hikers. Food offering was rather unimaginative, however, with nothing for veggies or vegans. (Old Dungeon Ghyll 20 mins walk up the road offers a bit more variety). Dining room also rather gloomy - needs a makeover - while the walkers bar is a bit dominated by sport TV. Drying room for wet weather gear also not fit for purpose. But a great stay nevertheless.

Checkin was very slow. Toilet didn’t flush. Meals size tiny, overly expensive and up to 45 mins to be served. Food only served from 6:30 but inability to even order before 6:30. Drinks super expensive- £12.90 for glass of wine. WiFi good Good size room Beautiful location Breakfast had the driest scrambled eggs I’ve even seen.

Breakfast disappointing. Help yourself area had no plates, no bread, no milk, no juice. Breakfast order under cooked and greasy. Poached eggs still raw. Service really slow due to not having enough staff on.

Beautiful setting but in need of a little TLC. Staff were very friendly and helpful but too few in numbers - food service was slow although very good quality. No staff on reception, you have to find someone from behind the bar and our room was not made up despite handing in the form at reception to request this. Musty/damp smell on top floor. Also limited choice at breakfast - no fruit!

Disappointing to be honest, the bathroom was very dirty and the room was basic and out dated. The mattress was extremely hard. The breakfast was average, no juice left and the eggs over cooked.

Wonderful location of course. But room was tired and in need of some basic maintenance. Was very noticeable when opening the wardrobe door. Breakfast service started too late (7.15 IIRC) for my hiking plans so was sorry to miss out. And somewhat limited parking at rear of hotel, which must be problematic when hotel/bar is busy during high season.

A very good hotel in one of the most scenic locations anywhere. The interior is most tastefully decorated throughout which Is most welcoming and warm.The staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. This is a special hotel in a very special place for the lovers of the Lake District.

The hotel is in one of more scenic values of the lakes, and right on the route of the Cumbria Way as well as shorter day walk routes. The room was clean and comfortable with a lovely view. The staff were welcoming and dinner and breakfast were good.

The staff are amazing, friendly and helpful. The food was good 👍 The rooms are a little tired but I know the owners have plans for improvements and when complete this will be a gem of a hotel. Location is perfect especially if walking Cumbria way.
