Overnight stay at the Hall Garth Hotel for business. Convenient location. Parking easy. Reception staff pleasant. Hotel is very much in need of an update. Main areas seemed OK but the rooms are very tired. Visited the Pool area at 6pm to find that the gym closes at 5pm and the whole area seemed to be full of decorating gear etc. Pool area and changing rooms very dated and tired and in desperate need of renovation. Breakfast area was nice. Cold selection very limited. Hot food was nice but the bacon had obviously been cooked much earlier and re-heated as it was so crispy you couldn't cut it with a knife. Probably wouldn't stay again.

Nice overnight stay at Hall Garth hotel, just minutes off the motorway but no sound of traffic !!!!!, Staff are all very friendly and an asset to the business. Evening meal was very tasty as was the breakfast. They have closed the swimming pool but have Spa facilities but at a premium price of £15 for 90 minutes which in my opinion is over priced. Rooms a little dated but comfortable . Would certainly recommend and return. They also have their own golf course.

Room a little tired and need of some modernisation. No extractor fan or window in bathroom so not ideal as couldn't use bathroom mirror properly. Reception staff welcoming. Continental breakfast was lovely and great value. Breakfast team were very helpful. Parking was fine and EV charger was great (download app and add payment card in advance in case of poor signal).

Arrived Friday for two night stay, had a sauna/hot tub but it no longer has a pool. I was surprised to be charged £15 for the use as I've never been charged as a paying guest before in hotels previously. Room was clean but rather tired, coffee/tea/milk were not refreshed daily. Hot Breakfast to order on Saturday, but buffet style on Sunday, passable but not the bast! WiFi availabe but a right faff to get signed on. USB charge point in bedroom not working. Friendly staff, happy to help.

Very pleased with the hotel, situated out of town in a nice countryside location with golf course attached. Staff friendly and helpful, food was good, nothing too fancy but good standard, just what we needed. Also has 4 EV charge points so got an overnight charge without any problem.

Room was very clean and comfortable Building and grounds were delightful Dining in was a disappointment- nothing to make this stand out Reason for choosing venue was the spa - but that’s out of order. There were very few guests as no major event on and those they did have, were placed next door to each other (heating/ cleaning efficiencies I suppose) but the walls are not that thick so you were kept awake by others TV watching.

Checked in , after looking around the room the bedding was found to be dirty and stained , asked for it to be changed to be told housekeeping had finished for the day and we would have to change rooms but the new room might not be as good as the current room , eventually after a couple of hours a member of staff went and changed the bedding , during this time we had a visit to the spa which we thought was in with the room price as the hotel was advertised as a hotel with a spa only to be charged an additional £30 for use of a hot tub and sauna , after the spa we went for an evening meal , which quite honestly was disappointing a best, one part of the meal was cold and the other meal was recommended as being cooked by Indian chefs chicken Tikka masala , that did not taste like any chicken Tikka masala I had ever before , all in all a disappointing stay , i Will say the staff at the front desk and bar did the best they could and even gave us a complimentary drink for the inconvenience. It's such a shame after spending the previous three days in another Best Western hotel a few miles away with no issues but sadly no hot tub either ( the reason for the change of hotel )because this hotel has a lovely setting and views of a golf course

We were supposed to be in a feature room. When we arrived we were put in a family room, the sofa was very badly stained and the carpet was very badly stained throughout. There were cobwebs on the wall and a comb was left in a drawer. The room was by far the worst I have ever seen. There was no bath, something we had particularly asked for. We could not stay in the room and went back to reception. We were eventually given another room which was old but very clean with a bath. I must say the staff were very good and the food was excellent. The receptionist I spoke to when we booked told us she had booked us into a feature room and it was not the first time her booking had been changed.

Room needed some TLC - large stains on the ceiling, stains on outside of the bath, old cigarette left in drawer where hairdryer was . Basic amenities- no hot choc or biscuits considering it’s 4 star. No info in room at all about what the hotel offers , etc much better in a premier inn for cheaper . Customer service not great on reception either . Not friendly or welcoming . Felt like I was doing them a service! Threat of being charged if I smoked on premises (I’m a non smoker) there are just nicer ways to speak to guests . Won’t stay here again

Rubbish on floor in room beside sofa presumably from previous guest, cobwebs, bedsheets although laundered were stained & dirty, sugar in one of the mugs (obviously not checked), room grubby, dust/threads/fluff all over carpets & skirting, panels falling off in bathroom, bath water luke warm, staff in restaurant uninterested, slow service, food not to standard (very salty, questionable quality as caused illness after meal). Car park very dark, muddy, pot holes. Chose to avoid included breakfast so no comment on that. Worst hotel I've experienced in years.

One night stop just off the A1 and the room 219 in the stable block was very poor. Cobwebs everywhere, lot of mould in bathroom, disgusting bathroom extractor fan not been cleaned in very long time, very noticeable dust on all surfaces, old food on carpet, and windows that hadn’t been cleaned in months if not years. General decoration condition was poor, shower water pressure low, no hot water in morning. Windows had secondary glazing and outer window wouldn’t close. Bathroom window was a struggle to open or close due to its poor condition. The mattress of one of the 2 beds was sagging and needed replacing. I gave a list of issues to receptionist but in the main I would avoid this place. It might be a lovely hotel in the main building but the stable annex is fairly awful and having just spent 3 nights in a wonderful guest house in N Yorks the contrast couldn’t have been greater.

I'd booked a superior room with double bed and got put into a family room - why? Although a nice big room, it wasn't what id booked. Walls are paper thin. Was up most of the night with the bloke next door coughing. King mattrass was terrible. Could feel every spring in it. Had to use the single bed duvet and spare blanket to make a topper.

Hotel is tired like many of these old hotel buildings, but certainly no worse than many I have stayed in. Bed was very comfy, room was warm and bathroom was clean and well stocked with toiletries. We moved rooms as the plumbing from the neighboring room made a lot of noise everytime they used the bathroom. The lady on reception was super, appologised and moved us without any fuss. Price was very cheap so I have no complaints about the standard of room we received. We will stay again next time we are in the area.

Hall Garth was a visit we looked forward to. The mapping App couldn’t find it easily and tried to locate it in the village the opposite side of the A1M, once we’d returned and crossed over Google maps insisted on trying to get us into the top end of the property (near the spa) which we ignored and finally found our way in. The hotel is lovely and the premises are fine, we had a larger room which unfortunately was a real trek through the buildings to reach. However comfortable room and quiet we found….For the first night. However the property holds weddings and our second night corresponded with one. So although our room was almost at the end of the property, guests in the room next door gathered shouting, singing and obviously enjoying themselves noisily until nearly three o’clock in the morning, after waking us around 12:30. Not ideal for a restful night before a long drive home.

The fire alarm light in the bedroom flashed all night and reception said they couldn’t do anything to fix it. The mattress in the room was really old and lumpy. Every time I turned over in bed the springs hurt my leg.

Pleased with the hotel and location. Very quiet with plenty of parking. Staff pleasant and helpful. Room was spacious. Only downside was the beds in our room were too hard and we had a poor nights sleep.

Hotel was clean, staff very friendly and helpful, Mandy the receptionist was full of local knowledge and even got the little one an Easter egg!! Her dog Sydney was lovely too!. The food was excellent value for Money and great quality too, we will definitely be returning again next year for Easter break, this is a hidden Gem, Customer service in all areas was amazing.

Hotel is tired like many of these old hotel buildings, but certainly no worse than many I have stayed in. Bed was very comfy, room was warm and bathroom was clean and well stocked with toiletries. We moved rooms as the plumbing from the neighboring room made a lot of noise everytime they used the bathroom. The lady on reception was super, appologised and moved us without any fuss. Price was very cheap so I have no complaints about the standard of room we received. We will stay again next time we are in the area.

Turned up late due to delays in traffic and they just locked the hotel up and didnt answer any of the calls (hopefully no one needs to leave if theres a fire). 27 phone calls and i am 3 days later yet to receive a reply or call to my emails. Had to stay somewhere else. Overall very disapointed with the bahaviour of the hotel. We wont be staying there as a company again

Unfortunately my booking had been cancelled ???? For some reason And all the rooms were booked ?? So there was a problem (not happy) 3hours on a motorcycle and wet through ,booked and paid for ,payment taken and no room? But then the lady running reception had had some leave so suddenly a room available? So in brief would not use you again to book a room but would certainly stay at the hotel again big thanks to the lady on reception who took control and sorted out the problem 👍 staff like this deserve better recognition for their service

Very pleased with the hotel, situated out of town in a nice countryside location with golf course attached. Staff friendly and helpful, food was good, nothing too fancy but good standard, just what we needed. Also has 4 EV charge points so got an overnight charge without any problem.

Room needed some TLC - large stains on the ceiling, stains on outside of the bath, old cigarette left in drawer where hairdryer was . Basic amenities- no hot choc or biscuits considering it’s 4 star. No info in room at all about what the hotel offers , etc much better in a premier inn for cheaper . Customer service not great on reception either . Not friendly or welcoming . Felt like I was doing them a service! Threat of being charged if I smoked on premises (I’m a non smoker) there are just nicer ways to speak to guests . Won’t stay here again

Nice overnight stay at Hall Garth hotel, just minutes off the motorway but no sound of traffic !!!!!, Staff are all very friendly and an asset to the business. Evening meal was very tasty as was the breakfast. They have closed the swimming pool but have Spa facilities but at a premium price of £15 for 90 minutes which in my opinion is over priced. Rooms a little dated but comfortable . Would certainly recommend and return. They also have their own golf course.

Hall Garth was a visit we looked forward to. The mapping App couldn’t find it easily and tried to locate it in the village the opposite side of the A1M, once we’d returned and crossed over Google maps insisted on trying to get us into the top end of the property (near the spa) which we ignored and finally found our way in. The hotel is lovely and the premises are fine, we had a larger room which unfortunately was a real trek through the buildings to reach. However comfortable room and quiet we found….For the first night. However the property holds weddings and our second night corresponded with one. Bedroom very outdated. Minimal coffee/tea sachets and no biscuits. Bed was comfy though. Bathroom not up to scratch with mould evident round tiles. Kitchen facilities out of order so no food except basics. No breakfast due to kitchen faults so only a (very) limited continental breakfast. Rubbish on floor in room beside sofa presumably from previous guest, cobwebs, bedsheets although laundered were stained & dirty, sugar in one of the mugs (obviously not checked), room grubby, dust/threads/fluff all over carpets & skirting, panels falling off in bathroom, bath water luke warm, staff in restaurant uninterested, slow service, food not to standard (very salty, questionable quality as caused illness after meal). Car park very dark, muddy, pot holes. Chose to avoid included breakfast so no comment on that. Worst hotel I've experienced in years.

Room was a good size and well equipped, comfortable bed & chairs. Tea/coffee facilities somewhat basic, but the essentials were there. Heating worked, had to turn the rad off, too warm but that's better than not warm enough. Stayed 2 nights, had dinner & breakfast in hte hotel both nights, and enjoyed them. Good choices for dinner, well cooked and presented, very pleased with both nights. Breakfast also good and none of the meals were overly expensive. Will be happy to stay here again when I'm next in teh area.

The staff really made this place and got it an extra star overall for this review. Sadly like a lot of old grand houses the place was a bit tired around the edges but we knew what to expect and the room and areas were clean. The bar area was modern with a great contemporary look and decor. The evening meal was ok - nothing amazing just ok if not a little on the pricy side. The breakfast was great value at £10pp and I always say you can judge a hotel by its sausage and those along with the black pudding on offer was very decent. Again the staff in every department were lovely - unfortunately we found the bed a little uncomfortable on the fist nigh (my wife could feel a spring through the mattress). We asked for a topper for night two but they didn’t have any BUT the mattress was flipped for us and another duvet was added on top - all this magic happened while we were out for the day so well done team, great customer service. Parking was ample, the welcome very warm (even asking us if we wanted to change rooms due to a wedding that night and us being over the function room). It’s a shame there is no longer a swimming pool as we didn’t feel the spa was worth the extra cost for what there was but we had a nice walk around the well kept (but abandoned golf course). Would we go back - yes we probably would.

The 2 blinds had mould all over them, the window frames were rotten and falling apart, resulting in a mouldy smell in the room. The bathroom was clean but, like the room, could do with an upgrade. The double bed was a very small double bed and at 5’6” my feet were touching the bottom. There was a ‘spa’ area on site with hot tubs but we were advised we had to pay extra to use. Good room and breakfast. Evening meals were also good although the menu was a bit limited. Staff were always polite helpful and friendly. Never known a hotel where you have to be out at 7:30am. Went out to get breakfast at the local services got back to the room about 7:45 to find the cleaner was in there and stripped the room out. It was a good job I decided to put my bag in the car before as I guess it would have been thrown out!!!
