The Essex Golf & Country Club Hotel

I’ve stayed at The Essex Golf & Country Club several times before and have always had a pleasant experience, which is why this visit was so disappointing. Unfortunately, the room did not meet the usual standards I’ve come to expect. The bed hadn’t been made properly, which immediately gave a poor first impression, and the bath drain was extremely slow, making it frustrating to use. It’s a shame because I’ve enjoyed my previous stays here, but this time the lack of attention to detail really let things down. I hope this was just a one-off, as I would like to return in the future, but improvements definitely need to be made to maintain the quality guests expect

Staff very helpful, although check inn at 10.30pm proved sketchy Great leisure facilities, with use of pool etc allowed on the day of departure

Appreciate they are not attempting to be a luxury hotel but missing on some really key basics. Pubic hairs were on bathroom side. Bathroom bin had not been emptied and was full of previous guests sanitary products. Dirty towel hung on back of bathroom door No power sockets on either side of the bed Room stank of cigarette smoke. In regards to eating, asked to order food at 2031 and was told kitchen closes at 2030. Not much flexibility given I was a minute late. Pretty dire to be honest.
