Really enjoyed our stay here. The whole place is very atmospheric with beautiful grounds and friendly staff. The beach could be cleaned up from seaweed but the pools are lovely. Live music nightly with reasonable drink prices. Swahili lesson was great and other activities are offered.

We enjoyed our stay at Severin. There were 2 nice pools. Nice sand on the beach. Although there were a few beach vendors, but they weren't too pushy. Buffet breakfast was excellent. I suggest getting the lobster at the the Dhow restaurant (very reasonable priced!).

This resort seemed to be well planned. Our room was quiet with little traffic past our door. The pools were very nice, clean, easily accessible and always staffed. The grounds were tidy and charming with geckos and monkeys frequenting us as we rested or walked. Loads of trees. and flowering plants and shrubs. It would have been informative if the plants etc. were labeled in some way especially if it was a Kenyan or east African exclusive species. We booked a Safari and city tour with the lodges expedition department. Both were excellent. The tour guides had excellent English (as do most of the staff), exciting and informative. The city tour really had lots packed in and getting to it all was a testament to our driver! Traffic in Mombasa is really an experience to Canadians. It really must be experienced from a back seat to keep us from having panic attacks every block. But there were no accidents any where we traveled!! I leave the dining experience to the end because it was a daily gastronomic delight. The food and staff both excellent, entertaining and delightful. Lecious and Eunice and Ruth, to name a few, made our daily trips through the buffet memorable. We thank everyone of the staff at the Severin Sea Lodge for a wonderful holiday experience.

We stayed 4 nights here and 3 nights at another resort on the Mombasa coast, and this was definitely far better in all respects. Very well maintained, charming staff and great service and facilities: pool, buffet meals, live evening entertainment etc. It is very hard to keep buildings in top condition in Kenya's climate, and especially with lots of monkeys around (!), but Severin Sea do it brilliantly. We also liked the eco-conscious approach, which brings comfort as well as environmental benefits (eg non-brackish water to wash in, thanks to the hotel's own water management system). Recommended.

Edward the bartender and Eric, head of security, were extremely helpful. They both helped me with an issue that took place off the property. The people in the area are extremely helpful and gracious with tourist. Theft and abuse of tourist is taken more seriously here than any place I have ever been in the world, including my home in Atlanta Georgia. The facility at Severin sea lodge is very nice and would compare it to a 5 star location in Atlanta where I live. The lodge has it's own private beach and lots of security. I will be coming back here in the future with my family.

Fantastic experience. We loved it! My husband, our kids (4yrs & 6yrs), my mother, and my brother & his family (2 kids - 8yrs & 5yrs) booked a few rooms and spent 3.5 days over the New Year period and had a really magical experience. The 4 kids loved the pool that also has a kiddy pool within the large pool and a slide. We all loved the food choices, the drinks were reasonably priced, the rooms were super clean and very modern - definitely recently renovated and we loved the ocean view and the balcony. The service was also exceptional and a number of us were Kenyans and we got fantastic service! The New Year's celebrations including fireworks at the beach were simply magical! We will definitely be returning in 2024!

My wife and I travelling to the SSL to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary having been engaged in Kenya in 1994. The hotel exceeded our expectations in every department. Pre visit the communication was extremely efficient and prompt. Throughout our stay everyone was friendly and professional. The hotel is spotlessly clean and well maintained. The environmental projects are well thought through, encouraged and managed. The food was excellent with a large variety and quality. We particularly liked the head chef walking around the restaurant each evening talking to guests. Love the swing bar - perfect for a sun downer. We both had treatments in the spa which again were first class and really relaxing. Overall we couldn’t fault the hotel at all.

Our room was clean, spacious and modern. The service was great for the full week stay. The had plenty of things to do (pool, gym, games etc) and the food was pretty good too. Overall a great stay and would recommend it.

It is a very nice lodge on a beautiful beach. The staff are very friendly. Check-in was slow and the room had a bit of a dank smell at first that resolved with airing out the room. Overall, it was a very nice stay.

I first reserved a sea-view room but the room given was with sea view that has so many obstructions. Then I downgraded to a regular room, which needed major updating as it seems the room has not been updated since the hotel was built in 1972. In fact, this old room lacked any European or American outlets to connect/recharge my devices. Lastly, flies around the open buffet make it impossible to eat with any sort of an appetite.

The staff are excellent. The property is in excellent condition, the Food is excellent, all kinds of variety of foods are available. The property is Ver clean, and the 2 swimming pools are in excellent condition.My family and I will definitely stay here next time we visit.

Excellent room. Great view from balcony overlooking pool and Indian Ocean. We coild sit outside and listen to the music at night. Room was spotless. We had half board. Food was ,satisfactory. Do not expect a gourmet experience—more at the level of a middle of the road chain restaurant in the US, but this is Mombasa. I would go here again if I were to return to Mombasa. Note that the roads in Mombasa to get here were awful. Traffic was disastrous, a manifestation of the local infrastructure

Echoing all the other positive reviews. The room was spacious, well-designed, clean, and quiet. The staff were kind and helpful, particularly at the front desk. The food was good (compliments to Chef Charles) and dinner options creative and plentiful. The pool was relaxing, and the ocean view lovely. I regret that my stay was so short and hope to return again.

The property was absolutely beautiful. It was truly a living paradise. They kept the grounds and the pool very well maintained. They service the rooms daily, if you request it, meaning fresh linen on a daily basis. The property was absolutely perfect. However, it paled in comparison to the staff. The staff went above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and at home. They honestly didn't seem to be able to do enough for you. My fiancé and I, at one point, we're having a conversation about how they made us, just she and I, feel special. We knew (and could see) they treated everyone the same, but we still felt as if we were being singled out as their favorite couple. Severin Sea Lodge was the perfect location for our vacation, but the staff gave us a home. To the staff, I just want to say, Thank You for a perfect three weeks!

Meine Mutter und ich haben insgesamt vier Nächte in der Severin Sea Lodge verbracht und waren mehr als zufrieden mit der Unterkunft. Wir hatten ein wunderschönes Deluxe-Zimmer mit Blick auf den Garten und den Pool. Die gesamte Anlage ist nicht allzu groß, sodass man sich schnell zurechtfindet. Es ist ein sehr ruhiges Hotel mit wenig Unterhaltung in der Umgebung – perfekt für alle, die einen entspannten Urlaub suchen. Jeden Abend gab es Live-Musik, die wir sehr genossen haben. Der Blick auf das Meer vom Garten aus, umgeben von üppig grünen Palmen und Bäumen, war atemberaubend. Das Meer war angenehm warm. Die Beach Boys haben uns nicht allzu sehr gestört und wir haben es uns nerviger vorgestellt – sie akzeptierten ein „Nein“ schnell und ließen uns dann in Ruhe. Das Essen war großartig und bot eine große Auswahl für jeden Geschmack. Der Service tagsüber war etwas langsam, aber das hat uns nicht weiter gestört - wir sind schließlich im Urlaub. :-) Das Personal war fantastisch – jeder, den wir getroffen haben, war freundlich und hilfsbereit. Besonders hervorheben möchten wir unsere tolle Kellnerin Alice. Ich habe mir auch eine Massage gegönnt und kann sie absolut empfehlen. Wir planen auf jeden Fall, wiederzukommen!

The staff could not be faulted. Nothing was too much trouble. The manager’s greetings with a cocktail/mocktail were fun. The grounds were beautiful and access to the beach easy and clean. . The bathrooms were a little tired and needed an upgrade. Toiletries were excellent. the food was plentiful but unimaginative. There are major building works nearby constructing a new motorway made access less easy than one might like.
The staff could not be faulted. Nothing was too much trouble. The manager’s greetings with a cocktail/mocktail were fun. The grounds were beautiful and access to the beach easy and clean. . The bathrooms were a little tired and needed an upgrade. Toiletries were excellent. the food was plentiful but unimaginative. There are major building works nearby constructing a new motorway made access less easy than one might like.

What a wonderful place! An oasis with direct access to the beach and exceptional service. Clean, luxurious rooms equipped with USB/USB-C ports, a hairdryer, Smart TV, complimentary water, and comfortable beds. We’d like to highlight our driver, Nelson, who picked us up at the airport upon arrival. We arranged several tours with Nelson, and he took us around Mombasa, his home village, and numerous hidden gems we would never have discovered on our own. We highly recommend Nelson for excursions and transportation. Another person deserving praise is Chef Joseph. He went above and beyond to accommodate us, especially during an illness. Everyone at Severin Sea Lodge deserves recognition. They’ve all contributed to making our first encounter with Mombasa a memorable and positive experience. We’re already looking forward to our next visit!

Unfortunately, the bungalow I booked w/ sea view was unavailable upon arrival. Experienced a few hiccups in terms of quality of available bungalows. Staff was great throughout. I’m not the biggest fan of their bungalows, BUT I love their upgraded rooms w/ partial ocean and pool view. Clean, comfortable, and serene. Beautiful, oceanfront restaurant. Amazing breakfast and dinner buffets. Great live music every night of our stay. Just a few steps from white sands, camels, and the stunning Indian Ocean. Everyone I encountered was incredible: restaurant servers (especially Dorcas), CHEFS, security personnel, shuttle drivers, etc. Everyone appears to love this magical place.

A bit tired, not really matching the price point is the main issue. You get what you pay for doesn’t quite stand up here. Some staff really friendly. Check in took ages. Food we ate tasted good.

At check-in, we were the only person at the counter. The chicken process took so long, and I lacked confidence at the counter personnel. Once we got to our room… There were no towels and no TV remote. I felt as if they had never prepared for our coming. The next day, we had a Buffay, which was quite good. And spent our time at the beach in a swing chair, looking out over the water. The service was generally slow and untrained. It took a few tries to get things right. I would blame the management team for lack of training and oversight over to employees. The employees had a good attitude. They just did not know what to do. This was particularly true in the bar. Although, we ended up getting drunk… The cocktails were virtually flavorless and uninspired. I would give high marks to the people working there for their effort. I would give extremely low marks to the management because the staff was just not prepared. I would score it right in the middle, but, there are many choices in Mombasa on the ocean, and we would not choose to stay at the Severn Sea Lodge again.

Some staff were outright rude. The lady that was in charge of checking people in for dinner is rude. I wouldn’t recommend staying. The menu is similar daily and they don’t have a cash option.

Severin Sea Lodge is a lovely beachfront property with clean rooms and great dining options — the breakfast and dinner buffet offered plenty of variety and tasted great. I really enjoyed the environment and overall atmosphere. My only negative experience was the check-in process, which took almost an hour due to limited staffing at night. Also, the reception area could use fans for guests, especially while waiting. If those issues are improved, this would easily be a 5-star experience

We came here to celebrate our honeymoon. Although we arrived late, past dinner time, they still allowed us to refresh after a long drive, then they graciously offered a la carte, way past the call of duty. This is excellent service. The rest of the stay went well. Highly recommended

My wife and I travelling to the SSL to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary having been engaged in Kenya in 1994. The hotel exceeded our expectations in every department. Pre visit the communication was extremely efficient and prompt. Throughout our stay everyone was friendly and professional. The hotel is spotlessly clean and well maintained. The environmental projects are well thought through, encouraged and managed. The food was excellent with a large variety and quality. We particularly liked the head chef walking around the restaurant each evening talking to guests. Love the swing bar - perfect for a sun downer. We both had treatments in the spa which again were first class and really relaxing. Overall we couldn’t fault the hotel at all.

Et veldig bra sted, men det bærer litt preg av alderen (bygget i 1972). Rent og fint, og en særdeles hyggelig og serviceinnstilt betjening. Minuset denne gangen var at vi fikk rom så langt fra stranden som det gikk a. RIktignok «seaview», men den var veldig begrenset. Bra mat og fine bassenger. Tidligere hadde nordkysten den fordelen at det gikk rakst fra flyplassen til hotellet. Nå var trafikken så stor at den fordelen nesten er borte,s ammenlignet med sør-kysten.

the property and service is great. the only draw back is the terrible traffic due to the road construction. If you are coming from the airport Nyali is not a nice drive due to the construction that just doesn't seem to improve.

This is a great hotel on Bamburi beach. Super friendly staff and an excellent experience. In terms of other guests: when I visited in Nov / Dec there was a lot of Germans and also senior citizens. If you are expecting party central then this is not for you (or most other hotels on Bamburi beach). Typically you move around either with taxi / uber / toktok / etc or you walk on the beach. The main road leading olto Bamburi is under construction so for now it's a bumpy, slow moving dusty ride. Be mindful that in day time the beach has a lot of beach boys and girls that will try to sell you things you or may not need. In the evening stroll down the beach to check out some of the nearby other hotels / restaurants. For those looking to have a relaxing stay along pools, dip into ocean, enjoy the warm weather and possibly join a safari trip this a a great hotel. Thanks to the super friendly staff!

Excellent room. Great view from balcony overlooking pool and Indian Ocean. We coild sit outside and listen to the music at night. Room was spotless. We had half board. Food was ,satisfactory. Do not expect a gourmet experience—more at the level of a middle of the road chain restaurant in the US, but this is Mombasa. I would go here again if I were to return to Mombasa. Note that the roads in Mombasa to get here were awful. Traffic was disastrous, a manifestation of the local infrastructure

I’ve stayed at most of the places in Nyali and this is the best experience for sure. Lawrence the front desk manager is super helpful and Eric at the bar is awesome. The breakfast buffet is great and there is nothing better than eating overlooking the ocean. The Bahari Dhow restaurant is excellent and there are lots of great options close by. Better than Sarova or English Point for sure.

I first reserved a sea-view room but the room given was with sea view that has so many obstructions. Then I downgraded to a regular room, which needed major updating as it seems the room has not been updated since the hotel was built in 1972. In fact, this old room lacked any European or American outlets to connect/recharge my devices. Lastly, flies around the open buffet make it impossible to eat with any sort of an appetite.

Everything was fantastic. The food at the evening buffet was excellent and I am not easily impressed. Both the variety and the quality was 5 star. The room and grounds were beautiful. And the staff were the best ive experienced anywhere in the world, and i travel extensively.

Breakfast was amazing with great variety, delicious with fresh & healthy choices. The hotel grounds are well maintained. Security is very good, direct access to a private beach. The seafront walk after meals is simply breathtaking. The service by the entire staff team was exceptional, their thoughtfulness beat our imagination, trustworthy team. If time had allowed us we would have extended our stay, however the good thing is that we intend to return to Mombasa and stay at the same hotel. Of special mention is Eric - head of security, Emily and Maria at reception, Charles & Francis maintenance staff, who all added to the wonderful experience. Unable to mention everyone aside being grateful to every staff who attended to us. Please keep the excellent service up.

Severin was one of my most disappointing experiences. The hotel seems focused on selling wherever possible, with a lack of transparency regarding additional charges. Even outside the hotel, persistent street vendors constantly approach tourists and do not leave you alone. The rooms are dated and did not live up to the standard shown in the photos. Reading previous reviews, it seems several other guests have raised similar concerns.

Perfect hotel, the only weekness was the 4pm tea. I wish there were snack cooked in front of guests like mandazi or packed potatoes or samosas. It becomes lively as in other resorts.

Traveling solo to Kenya for the first time, I was embraced by the staff at this delightful boutique hotel. They took the time to be sure I had everything I needed. It was a pleasure to be able to walk down to the dining room for tea in the afternoon and for delicious dinner in the evening. I give them my highest recommendation, particularly for solo women traveling to Kenya.
