We stayed here for 4 nights room was spacious we had a twin room on the top floor room 18 the first time climbing those stairs I thought what have we let ourselves in for but after a while it wasn’t too bad x breakfast was very nice could upgrade to a bigger cooked breakfast for £3 if you were feeling hungry but the standard was enough for us. Room was very warm as it was 30+ degrees during the day but were provided with a fan which was a godsend all in all we would stay there again maybe request a lower floor but for location and price could not complain

What can I say. Promised a four poster bed with hair dryer etc in the room. It would appear that either the room was previously used to house unfortunates or was the local crack den. Curtains hanging of the poles, carpets stained, dresser table missing , tv off the wall and all up a rickety and shoddy set of about 4 flights of stairs. I didn’t know if we would be mugged by the local clientele in the bar or if we should be paying for the room by the hour, as maybe this could’ve been the type of establishment you may only book by the hour. All in all, not even worth the price, falsely advertised and with a bathroom you couldn’t swing a gerbil in let alone a cat, I doubt I’d be rebooking this venture gateway to benefit street. Not even for the cultural experience.

This is definitely a 3 star hotel, very conveniently situated if you travel by public transport, but you'll have to make alternative arrangements if you travel by car. The premises incorporate a run-down bar which serves pub food and also serves as the breakfast room. Vegetarian and other options are catered for. On arrival, we had one meal there which was o.k. and very reasonably priced, although the beef lasagne I ordered turned out to be a vegetable one. Our room being street-facing and almost directly over the bar, on Friday and Saturday night we were subjected to noise and music from the bar until midnight, which we found was tolerable, but may be a minus for guests who want to go to bed early. Staircase and corridor were as tired as the bar. There is no lift, so the hotel is not suitable for persons with limited mobility. Our room had obviously been reasonably recently refurbished, the carpet was clean, radiators and other fitting looked new and the bathroom was modern, with a powerful shower, a dual flush toilet and a towel rail. It would have benefitted from a shelf to store personal items and holders for the soap/ shower gel dispensers. The room was clean and tidy. For storage, it featured three coat hooks, but no other hanging space for clothing, nor drawers to store folded items. We had to live out of our suitcases. The mattresses were definitely worn and will need replacing, as admitted by the management. The staff were friendly and welcoming.
