This hotel continues to slide down hill. We have stayed here for a week for the last 5 years. We were disappointed last year when they were doing renovation. Well, other than a new lobby, everyting else has been neglected. Breakfast is no longer offered and the area has become a dumping ground for junk. Pool area is always dirty, tiles are popping off everywhere, the hot tub is chipped and cracked, never enough or often no towels. He restroom/changing room is dawful. Fitness room was a disaster. There was an Out of Service sign on the treadmill and the other equipmet had the cords missing. Nothing worked. Room a/c heater is very noisy. Asked for extra towels for the room amd was told we could only have 1 per person. Had to request cleaning service to get clean ones. Kitchen is stocked with almost the basics. 3 plates, 5 saucers 2 glasses, 3 cups. Sofa sleeper is in need of a new mattress. Under the sofa has not seen a broom in years. Next year we will go to a different hotel.

Jacuzzi was more like a warm bath (98 degrees.) and most of the jets weren’t working. Considering I booked hotel with jacuzzi being a key factor … very disappointing!

Very disappointing. Construction during the holidays was not good. Lobby was totally under construction . Getting on and off the single working evevator involved navigating around scaffolding. Paper taped to the common area floors was a constant trip hazard. Construction workers moved their vehicles into every empty parking space as soon as someone left during the day and also parked in fire lanes. Tgis left your paying customers navigating a tight parking lot and walking across the main street to the remote parking lot. And you charged everyone an extra $10 per day to park. Rooms are in bad need of upgrade. Wallpaper peeling and black mold around door. Bathroom has multiple layers of caulk and bugs. No service unless we asked the maid directly and then just towel exchange. There was no breakfast at all. We have stayedhete for several years over the holidays but will be going elsewhere in the future.

Expedia buyers, beware: The hotel charges an extra $12 per day resort fee that's not mentioned anywhere in the listing on the app. The hotel is older and showing some signs of wear and tear but is clean and seems like the room was fairly recently updated with newer floors. The pool was nice and warm. Only certain rooms (ie. the more expensive ones or the 2nd floor) are allowed to park in the hotel parking lot. Others have to park across the street in the garage.

Property waa amazing. From the moment you walk-in, you are greeted by friendly and welcoming staff. The room was clean and way bigger than we expected. The pool and jacuzzi were a major bonus feature !

What a pleasant surprise, from the easy check in to the great room with a balcony overlooking the ocean(beach) to the awesome coffee machine downstairs and the inddor pool and hot tub!! I didn't want to leave!

This property was filthy from the very minute you walked in the door. There was hair all over the floor in the bathroom, mold sand all over the floor. The balconies were dirty. Had food from the previous renters. Just playing out nasty. And just think I paid over $1000 for three nights. What a rip off that was I would advise you to stay the hell away from this property. Much better properties at a cheaper price a lot cleaner also and just think I used to be a general manager for choice hotels

The property was very dirty the last guests hair products were left in the bathroom. Thank air didn’t work maintenance had to come the light was flickering off and on and the bathroom floor had hair all over it. I had to sweep the floor and the microwave was dirty. The property didn’t even offer me a different room so I left the same day with half a refund. I will never stay there again.

The view was AMAZING. The front desk staff was great and working very hard. There was only one person and a lot of people coming in at the same time. The hotel is beach front with access right to the boardwalk. There wasn't a lot of parking at the hotel but they have reserved spots across the street in the parking garage. The first room we were given was nasty. There were small bugs smashed all over the walls in the kitchen, dining and living room. I asked to move and for some money back by they would only accommodate the move. The second room didn't have bugs on the walls but the walls needed a good scrub. I saw a lot of marks, food and who knows what else in the walls. There were coffee grounds on the counter, sand in the fridge, hair on the wall next to the toilet and crumbs behind the bed. We will be taking this hotel off the list of places we would stay when returning to VA Beach.

Just SO dirty we left after first night (originally staying 3). Hair & dust dirt etc, sticky kitchen table, didn’t walk around without shoes. View was incredible, but not worth staying in such a dirty room. If it was deep cleaned it would be good, it looked good online in pictures, but gross in person

The floors in our room were so dirty our feet were black. The dishes were greasy and dirty. It did not have all the utensils in room was told that would be supplied. Black mold in the bathroom. Peeling paint in the hallway. No hair dryer. Parking lot always had trash in it. I was charged more then what my bill stated. Sauna was not fully functional.

I came with a party of 5. We each had our own rooms. Every room was not clean. One room had a sofa bed full of Easter egg toys and markers (hint we stayed here in the beginning of March). One room had a sofa bed with drawing, juice statins, and maybe blood stains. One room had bugs, she had to ask for another room. The other room had stains on sheets/comforter and towels. Hotel smells like cigarettes. The view of the beach is the only thing that makes you comfortable.

Room was no clean. The pull out bed had sand and hair on it. The tub was plugged and had to shower in ankle deep water. There was food left in a cupboard that had been there for quite some time. The room needs a remodel and new cleaning crew. The entrance was being worked on and we were covered in tiny styrofoam pieces every time we went through.

Love you and the surrounding areas was the best part. The hotel was dirty including the pull-out couch had a blood stain on it and little dead black bugs and pubic hairs. When we went to the desk to get clean bedding they acted like we were in inconvenience. And then the day that we were checking out there was a brutal fight that my kids had to witness involving the staff. The police were there multiple times. I complained to the staff and they told me that Expedia is the only one that could fix the problem.

The food at the Indian restraunt was good. Great view of the ocean and beach. Room was large and divided into 2 sections. The bad: Physically broken outlet in room Requested clean towels twice and never got them Room was not cleaned properly before we arrived broken tiles in bathroom Shower wand would not stay in upright position Toilet paper roll holder was falling off the wall Table lamp did not turn on Coffee in room was not good, the free coffee in the lobby was great but slow and had to travel to the first floor to get it. No snack machines at all. Soda and ice limited to only 3 out of 8 floors, so you have to hop on the elevator to get a $3.00 bottle of water I would never recommend this hotel to anyone , nor would I ever go back. also the only people that spoke English were at the main desk. I dont know who owns or runs this hotel , but they have no business being in the hotel industry

The view was nice. Dressers were busted none of them stayed closed unless you put something in front of them. Bathroom door felt like the knob was going to fall off. Wifi worked sporadically. Tvs were alwaya messing up. Bed was very uncomfortable. Place is very dated. Not sure about these pictures they show cause my room looked like it was stuck in the 80s. Room was clean thats a good thing

I wanted to stay in a place where I could listen to the ocean as I slept. Unfortunately, the way these rooms are laid out, the king size bed is right inside the door (and mine was literally directly across from the elevator), then there's a hallway down to a kitchen/living room space, and then the balcony. So instead of being able to sleep in a comfortable king bed, I opted to sleep on the fold-out sofa, which was exceedingly uncomfortable. The fitted sheet was too small, so the mattress curled up. There was only a single blanket so it was cold. And the bar under the thin mattress dug into my back all night, so I tossed and turned. But I was able to hear the ocean while I was laying there awake all night.
I wanted to stay in a place where I could listen to the ocean as I slept. Unfortunately, the way these rooms are laid out, the king size bed is right inside the door (and mine was literally directly across from the elevator), then there's a hallway down to a kitchen/living room space, and then the balcony. So instead of being able to sleep in a comfortable king bed, I opted to sleep on the fold-out sofa, which was exceedingly uncomfortable. The fitted sheet was too small, so the mattress curled up. There was only a single blanket so it was cold. And the bar under the thin mattress dug into my back all night, so I tossed and turned. But I was able to hear the ocean while I was laying there awake all night.

The location is great, the rooms are spacious, the bed is relatively comfortable, it's convenient there is a mini kitchen (stove, microwave, refrigerator, sink), the balcony overlooks the beach, and parking is convenient. The downsides are the entire hotel reeks of cigarettes despite being non-smoking (seems to be old carpet), the bed is not in the room with the ocean-view - it's soon as you enter the room from the hallway and there is a giant window that looks into the hall right next to the bed that lets in a lot of light and sound (kind of like the hall used to be outdoors), there is no sound proofing in the room (particularly surprising for the price), there is no screen on the balcony door so you can't let in the ocean-air, and the description includes false advertising because parking is not free and there is not breakfast included - as soon as you confirm your booking you get an email telling you those things don't actually exist anymore. If you want an oceanfront hotel that has a mini kitchen with a separate living room from the bedroom but don't mind it has no frills and is outdated, this place works. If you want somewhere oceanfront that is modern, if free parking or breakfast is your dealbreaker, or if you have a strong sensitivity to the smell of smoke and mildew, you should look elsewhere.

Check-in was efficient and although there were a few signs that the property needed updating, the room was comfortable. Parking was assigned and convenient. But the best was the LOCATION. We were assigned a room on the 8th floor and had the BEST view. There was a lovely balcony where we spent hours sitting and enjoying the peace and tranquility of the ocean. I don't think I've ever spent more on a hotel room, but this was worth it.

I needed to change my reservation and at first the phone kept ringing and then was disconnected. Finally got someone on the phone, who was rude so then had to call the hotels.com number. They were nice but couldn’t get the hotel to pick up the phone so said she would send an email. When we got there the woman at the desk was again rude, called the manager and the manager finally said we could have a room. The first room had not been cleaned, they changed our room. The new room had something disgusting on the rug and I had to put a towel down. This place is just not ok.

The front desk staff was very welcoming. When I got to my first room it had a bad smell but when I called front desk they didn’t hesitate to move me to another room that was better. I love this hotel.

Staff: Tammy (3rd shift) had the worst attitude I\'ve ever experienced at this hotel. I was trying to check in and was extremely rude, to the point I had to asked "is everything ok?" And she replied that "the last employee had left money in her drawer and that pissed me off!!" I told her " I\'m sorry about that, but that has nothing to do with me!!!" Customer service is everything, and this is one of the best hotel on the boardwalk. Everyone else was great, I hope they do something about this lady before she start to drive away business there!!!

The room I stayed in was clean and comfortable. There was not one working ice machine in the entire hotel. Also be warned - checkout time is 11:00 am HOWEVER they will deactivate your rooms card keys at 10:30 am. Then taking up precious time to go back to the front desk and ask them to reactivate the card key the desk clerk was extremely rude!

Turned out the man was a service provider and was there to work on something. I suppose he was given a key for room access and he forgot it. Regardless, you shouldn’t talk to anyone in that way. She was not much nicer to me. The next day similar tone and attitude from a different front desk attendant. Being nice works too.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Barclay Towers. HUGE suite with comfortable king bed, great shower, small balcony right on the ocean and a small kitchen and living space. AC and internet worked great. I was impressed with the staff immediately on check in. Very knowledgable and friendly. Nice coffee machine in the lobby, recycle receptacles all around. Easy access to the beach and boardwalk. Parking across the street in a garage. Bathroom was well stocked with shampoo, conditioner and body wash. Ample drawer and closet space. Nice little stove and cooktop and small fridge (no freezer - but plenty of ice available which turned my cooler into a freezer). Minimal dishware, but enough for the 2 of us to cook breakfast and lunch! This is not a luxury accommodation but really has everything you need for a great beach stay! We will be back.

The food at the Indian restraunt was good. Great view of the ocean and beach. Room was large and divided into 2 sections. The bad: Physically broken outlet in room Requested clean towels twice and never got them Room was not cleaned properly before we arrived broken tiles in bathroom Shower wand would not stay in upright position Toilet paper roll holder was falling off the wall Table lamp did not turn on Coffee in room was not good, the free coffee in the lobby was great but slow and had to travel to the first floor to get it. No snack machines at all. Soda and ice limited to only 3 out of 8 floors, so you have to hop on the elevator to get a $3.00 bottle of water I would never recommend this hotel to anyone , nor would I ever go back. also the only people that spoke English were at the main desk. I dont know who owns or runs this hotel , but they have no business being in the hotel industry

The property was nice. Upon arrival I checked in and was given a room key. I go up to the room with my bags and open the door and see that the room is occupied. Luckily the occupants weren't in the room but I passed them as I was going back to the elevator. I was upset the hotel made it seem like it wasn't a big deal. Didn't try to apologize or anything. After a hour of waiting for a room booked a week prior we were finally able to start our vacation

Older renovated hotel. Clean room, but clear signs of the age of the hotel were visible. We still thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The balcony views were beautiful and you could not beat the ease of getting to the boardwalk, beach and surrounding restaurants and attractions. And the people watching was peak.

Although parking across the street was inconvenient with small children, we had everything we needed within walking distance. Nice to have a separate bedroom for little ones to go to sleep early.

We have stayed at The Barclay many times. What we like is the location. On the quieter end of things and beautiful ocean views. Love the layout of the room how the bedroom is separate from the “living” quarters. Still plenty around Cons - it’s a little outdated and could use some updating but I think they are working on that. Other would be the others staying there, this time we had a big family in the next three rooms down, they would hang out in the hall and you had to ask to get by. A little disrespectful, we all ned to share the common areas, its just good manners to have. Not everyone is like that thiugh, just our experience this time. Otherwise a great stay, would go again, but might look at other places too just to compare.

The Barclay is ok. It's starting to show it's age and a few things in the room could of used some repairs. The room was clean and the staff was friendly. Free parking was across the street. There is not even a continental breakfast. The restaurant inside the hotel is only open for lunch and dinner and it is India cuisine. The Sunnyside restaurant is the closest and best place for breakfast. We paid $38 for two entrees. It's about 2 blocks away.

Very nice place to stay. For an oceanfront room, it was a decent place to stay for the price. Our room was clean but it smelled bad. There was a restaurant below our room and they blared music throughout the evening. Otherwise, we have no complaints and would likely stay there again.

Amenities like free parking and good coffee were nice extras. We happened to be there while they were doing some renovations ahead of the busy season. Slightly annoying, but work looked good, so I’m sure future guests will be pleased. Beautiful views and great location.

The barclays hotel is extremely dated, and had band-aid type repairs all over our room. The shower wall had a large crack that was just epoxied over, and the ceiling above the shower was distressed and sagging. one of the electrical outlets looked burnt and had a cluster of extension cords running behind one of the tv’s. That tv was inoperative as well. The freezer portion of the refrigerator was almost totally iced over and in need of a complete defrost. The air vents/return vents were very dusty. There were also multiple portions of the wall paper that was peeling and coming off of the wall itself.
