Excellent overnight stay. Our room was much bigger and quieter than expected after reading some reviews. Main area had a comfy double bed with plenty of space around it, bedside units, long dressing table and large tv. There was a big dressing area with clothes storage and then a good size bathroom. Rain shower was centred in the bath so one could move freely under the powerful spray. We ate in the restaurant and found the meals to be generous, tasty and very good value. Bar prices were also good.

I liked having the restaurant and pub on site. The place is a little tired looking and is in need of a complete upgrade. The car park and area around the entrance could be better maintained. Someone needs to get a broom and clean up.

The Charnwood is an American style Motel, The rooms are in blocks at ground level and you park your car outside your room. No stairs, just take your luggage out of the car boot and walk 4 or 5 steps through the dor of your room. The shower head is big and square and wonderful, the bed is better tha the one I sleep in at home, (I cannot say that about any other hotel I have ever stayed in) The hotel is literally 5 minutes from J22 of the M1 but is really quiet at night. I love this place, it's the second time I have stayed here, and next time I come down to Coalville I shall stay here again.

The staff could not have been better. They were helpful and kind and worked very hard to make the experience as good as it could be. However, Green King need to upgrade the overnight accommodation. It was dismal, gubby and very tired, not pleasent at all. The bathroom especially was very poor in every repsect. The car park deperately needs resurfacing too. The food was average pub grub.

Excellent place for a functional overnight stop near M1. Friendly, comfortable and quiet. Can park car right in front of motel-style rooms. Tea & coffee making in room.

Very good Greene king hungry horse pub & food, helpful busy staff. The rooms are like chalet’s in the car park but big enough modern & clean. Local area there is a truck stop right nxt door so pub has some truckers in it but mostly families. Only draw back was a stretch of the local road was used as a race track til about 11 pm cars screaming up & down

Perfect for our purposes- stop off on the way back home. Room was good- clean comfortable and easily accesible(away from the main building). Breakfast was fab- lots of choice and really well cooked. Only down side(and a vey minor point) outside tables were a little grubby(just needed a wipe.) Overall a great place and amazing value for money. Would definitely reccomend.

We enjoyed our overnight stay at this venue. We liked the motel-style accommodation, which meant not only was noise limited, including further away from traffic, but also we could park our car beside the lodge. The room was user-friendly, though a little dingy, but it suited our purposes. It was clean and dog-friendly, so everything we wanted for a good price. We also enjoyed our meal and drinks at the venue and the prices were really reasonable. Would happily return if travelling through the area.

Upon checking in, I entered the pub and waited next to a partitioned ‘bar’ reserved for hotel reservations. Ignored by bar staff at first, around 10 minutes later, I was asked to enter my car registration and provided a key. More of a motel than a hotel, rooms are accessed via main doors leading into a car park. My room (10) was upstairs- above a car passageway. Initial impression- strong smell of disinfectant, filthy carpets (stained) and marks all over the walls. The bathroom was generally clean and the room was generously sized. The first night it was freezing- the second I turned the radiators from 1 to 4. There was no sound proofing so I could hear the ‘neighbours’ in the room opposite walking up the stairs at night. The mattress was ‘rocky’ and the pillows hard and lumpy- bed linen otherwise clean. The place was rough- breakfast was just OK but I’d recommend driving to the nearby McDonald’s instead. The English breakfast is restricted to one sausage, two bacon pieces, tinned mushrooms, beans, an egg and two hashbrowns. The menus clearly state no substitutions are allowed. There is a small continental breakfast area- 2 danish pastries and 2 croissants (literally), bread, cereals, yoghurt. Overall, I would rather look elsewhere. The room would have been fine if they had used a carpet cleaner and given the walls a coat of paint. It was cheap and you definitely get what you pay for. But cleanliness costs nothing.

We cannot fault the service received. All the staff we encountered were so welcoming and helpful. They made us feel like nothing was too much trouble. It was lovely. Same cannot be said for our room. Pubic hairs in the bath, dirty grouting in the shower, dust filled radiators, questionable marks behind the bin in the bathroom (we didn’t investigate!), water marks on the bathroom door, frame and radiator. We really weren’t sure when it was last cleaned. The bedroom walls were stained and chipped, dirty marks around the light switch, stain on duvet or duvet cover, again we didn’t investigate closely, we were just too tired, dog hairs on the carpet and doormat. It felt dirty, it looked dirty, I couldn’t bring myself to walk bare foot and neither of us showered. It’s such a shame that the room was in such bad need of a thorough clean and redecoration, and the ground around it needing a good weed/tidy, because the pub itself was spotless, the breakfast amazing and we couldn’t ask more from the staff. We had to give a really low rating because of the room which was the whole reason we were there.

Very relaxing Staff were friendly one gent behind bar was a bit arrogant but overall our 4 day stay was good.. Oh there were ants in the room but didn’t really ruin our stay..

Please start by getting the basics right walked in found bathroom had not cleaned think ring of muck around bath and mucky hand prints and pubes everywhere! To add to this we also got locked in due faulty lock on door which was also a major health and safety hazard in the event of a fire!

Hotel is ok it’s budget and it was exactly how I imagined it would be so no complaints of the hotel itself, however, walls are extremely thin and next door to me were about 10 young adults having a bit of a get together by the sounds of it from around 11pm to 8.30am they were non stop talking, shouting, banging, slamming doors and standing outside our room drinking and being loud, at one point there were 4 outside and lots of loud talking shouting still coming from their room so I’m estimating around 10 people. Cars kept pulling up and people knocking on the next doors door which was slammed each and every time (presumably takeaways?) because there’s no proper reception at the hotel I didn’t know if there was any point trying to ring anybody so didn’t bother. I got no sleep at all that night but had to drive to Melton Mowbray after breakfast so that’s a 45 minute drive on no sleep in fog and then in a couple of hours after writing this review (as in still in Melton) I’m driving to Skegness which is around 90 minutes on no sleep. So no my experience was extremely bad but not strictly the hotels fault. Thankfully my 6 year old boy who was with me had fallen asleep before the noise started so once he’s asleep he rarely wakes to anything so he wasn’t affected. I stayed in room 36 and the noise came from room 35. The lads went past my room presumably to go to breakfast at 8.30 so looks like they pulled an all-nighter unfortunately I’m past being able to do that.

Room.had EXTREMELY squeaky floor boards. Felt for whoever was staying under me! Food was value for money.

Next to a lorry park and there was a power generator running 24/7. Room had the front door kicked in (visible repairs inside the room) Not a comfortable stay and will find another hotel next time!

Very friendly service. I slept well in the room, the bed was comfortable. The room was looking a bit tired but other than that an excellent stay and extremely good value. Breakfast was good with a warm and friendly welcome from the lady serving me.

Absolute joke - originally asked to move my venue as where we were going changed locations was told no so kept booking. Turned up to hotel last night to be told booking cancelled so had no booking and no where to stay - still waiting for call back as of 11am today it’s 6pm now and no one can confirm what’s happened

Room was basic but clean and the bed was comfortable. Fine for a short stay, like mine. Convenient for the M1. Food was good. Breakfasts varied. Staff helpful.

This is a 3 star venue and is good at that star rating our room was clean and tidy the bed was comfortable the shower was excellent. The food is good and plentiful, there is a lorry park opposite which can be noisy and a bit diesely. But would use again 👍👍

The rooms were clean, shower was hard to regulate, they are well looked after, the staff friendly and helpful. The only problem is the noise from the lorry park next door. There was a constant hum that you could hear in the room, it was hard to sleep and never stopped. The hotel needs to do something about it as the most important is sleep.

Firstly, the staff were great. There is a truck compound opposite and either a trailer chiller unit or a diesel generator was running all night 50 metres from my room. The whole place would benefit from some attention. The car park surface was in bad condition and general decor would benefit from some investment. I assume the other guests were the drivers of the trucks or otherwise extremely early risers as when I went for a shower at 07.00 there was no hot water. It was a bracing shower that woke me up for the day at least.

Nice single rooms and car parking right outside the door. Breakfast on last day wasn't as good as during the week. Took 30 minutes and it was scrambled egg white rather than scrambled egg! Hayho..... ot everything can be perfect all day every day!

Terrible stay.. never again! The rooms were smelly, (first thing we did was go and buy some Fabreeze!) The floor mat at the front door of the room was gaffa taped down! The bathroom smelt like sewage!! We could hear the person in the adjoining room coughing all night as if in our room and there was a fan noise droning all night from the next room which turned out to be a pump room!! To top it all we waited 45 minutes for breakfast after we ordered!!
