The Turtle House

Great property in a good location. Love that it was so private and woodsy. Spent a lot of time outside on the deck. Also loved all the windows in the den.

We had a wonder stay. The Turtle House is exactly as advertised. It is such a relaxing house. My grand boys loved playing on the decks and in yard. The bunk room was great for them. They played board games. You sit inside and feel like you are in a forest with all the trees outside. This was my second stay at Turtle House.

It's a really cool house nestled in a beautiful wooded space. It's not easily walkable to downtown, but would be easily bikeable. The outdoor space would a great place to have a party.

Love the property. Bummed out that the whirlpool tub was not up and running. Was really looking forward to that and chose the property based on that.

Indoor outdoor space is ideal for a trip with a dog.

This property was precious. We loved the privacy of it. Very short jaunt to the beautiful beach. Was a little disappointed that the listing had jetted tubs but they were not operational. Overall was very pleased with it. Will definitely book again as we have family in the area.

Moist but, thats to be expected. Seems like there may have been mice. Wish recycling bins were offered and tub jets worked. Some surfaces could have been cleaner. Overall it was what we needed. Thanks.

My husband, sister, brother-in-law, myself and out two dogs stayed three nights during the Peter Anderson festival. We appreciated that the historic Ishee House was very well stocked in the kitchen and both bathrooms. We called Dian when we had a problem with the tv and she was there in 10 minutes. Problem solved. Dian also gave us a wonderful oral history of the Turtle House, including how it got it’s name. We also appreciated the ample outdoor space - a wraparound deck with tables and chairs, an outdoor shower, bar area, and fenced yard for the dogs. Our only recommendations would be to make the indoor steps between the rooms more visible, as they are dark, different heights and different depths, which is a safety concern for those with balance and/or vision issues. Maybe safety tape or create a pattern with paint or tile? The other would be to make the outdoor area even more attractive with a good power washing. We did appreciate that there was a long hose that we used to wash the deck and had there been a leaf blower (we stayed in the fall) we would have happily used it to blow leaves off of the deck. The bunk room is small with no hanging space but there is a long hanging rod in the laundry area off of the larger bedroom. We appreciated that and the several hangers there. We had a lovely stay and noted that the house was only about two miles to the festival, making that an easy bike ride. I actually walked home one evening from the festival.

Turtle House is a sweet house surrounded by a lush lot that we enjoyed through large windows because it rained for our visit Houses that allow dogs are always a little risky but Turtle House smelled great and the furniture is slipcovered. The fenced yard seemed inescapable and was perfect for our guys to explore. We will return!

Hope and Dian were wonderful hosts. Communication was timely and appropriate. The sheets were comfortable; living area very nice; large windows in the mornings were awesome; shower heads and lots of hot water - great; laundry was good plus the laundry room was useful; neighborhood quiet. This is a beautiful home that was once great. It needs a very deep cleaning and possibly updates to get rid of the old dirt. I don't know why the other reviews didn't mention this. Hope offered to deep clean the kitchen while we were there. Since deep cleaning takes quite a bit of time, we declined. The outside lighting in the back did not work. An attempt was made to fix it but couldn't be done and no one followed up. I see a previous review from last September that also mentioned the same problem. The dishwasher door was broken. On our 3rd day there, the mice showed up. Dian brought more traps. Both Dian and Hope apologized thinking the mice came in during recent window replacement. There was evidence the mice had been there for quite some time. Mouse droppings were in the kitchen drawers and oven mits had been gnawed on for nesting material. Towels had also be chewed. Mouse droppings were also found in the spare bedroom on the window sill. After setting our own traps and catching 4 mice, we left a week early and there was no offer to refund part of our money. It's hard to believe that no one else had a similar experience. We will not stay here again and we would not recommend the Turtle House to anyone. We feel that it's very important to be honest on these reviews.

Great location if you want a comfy, relaxing quiet place to vacay. Clean and well stocked, close to beaches and restaurants. We will stay here again.

Charming little cottage, in some disrepair, lots of noise from the AC unit in the bedroom which kept us awake at night, no soap at all in the bathrooms, a little dingy and outlets/light switches out of operation everywhere. Had to go buy coffee for the machine, and then opening the little creamers (which were all spoiled and expired) and ended up disappointed that we didn't bring our own. All of that, and we still had a nice time in the natural surroundings and walking the beach front and downtown areas. Not in close proximity to any coffeshops or restaurants; on the outskirts of town in a run-down neighborhood. Wish the online listing would have been more accurate. Not for guests who prefer higher end comforts.

The Turtle House was a retreat somehow secluded in a little neighborhood near the beach. What a great location for an Ishee house! We were in awe of the architecture before finding out its history and who designed it and even more after researching this great designer. Dian was a very gracious host answering all the questions we had and even giving us the lay of the land. We were able to continue our late night walks with our dog with peace of mind in the quiet neighborhood and food is just a short drive away. House was clean and well supplied. This visit with my family was perfect and really deserves 10 stars. Thank you again Dian!

Layout gives plenty of space with 2 bedrooms on opposite sides, each with its own bath. Conveniently located. Home is located at the end of a street. Very secluded. Driving in you have to go through an older neighborhood with homes in varying degrees of upkeep. May be off-putting to some at first. Couple words of caution...would not recommend this property to anyone with limited mobility as there are steps in the foyer and steps up to the kitchen and bedrooms. Both tubs are very deep making them a challenge for anyone who can't lift their legs high. Also, anyone familiar with coastal areas knows that high humidity creates challenges with mold. The 2nd bath has a strong moldy smell, so this may not be a good fit for anyone with lung / breathing issues. The property was generally clean, but could do with a much deeper clean. We did not encounter any issues with our stay requiring us to interact with the owner.

Very impressed with the place. It’s a great getaway location to unwind. We loved the cabin feel and the nature all around.

We enjoyed taking walks there and it isn’t too far from the beach. The house is so charming and comfortable. We stayed in a different Ishee house for an earlier trip and have become fans of his work. Loved the house. Lots of step ups and step downs but we got used to that pretty quickly. The dogs loved the back deck and fenced in yard. There are definitely improvements that could be done to the property but I know everything is so expensive these days I can understand why certain things haven’t been updated. Definitely have a mouse problem that needs to be taken care of. Loved the Ocean Springs area and enjoyed our weekend!

This beautiful house is tucked back into the woods in such a way that you feel like you're in a forest when you look out the many windows. The Turtle house is actually one of the Ishee houses. These houses are almost the stuff of legend in Mississippi gulf coast lore and you shouldn't miss your chance to stay in one. We had a great time and will definitely be back to stay longer!

A true coastal property that’s quirky, charming, and fun with its middle century architecture and décor. I love to get the feel of a place I visit, and this home doesn’t disappoint. It has just such a cool vibe. The large windows in the living area perfectly framed the outdoor landscape, we kept forgetting we were in a neighborhood because such care has been taken to give you the feeling of nature, seclusion, and privacy. I think we spent more time just sitting and talking on the decks outside enjoying the peace and quiet than sitting in the house. And at night, just beautiful. I even saw fireflies, something I haven’t witnessed in over 35 years. So, thank you for sharing this little Mississippi Gem with us. We are already looking forward to another visit and more time in Ocean Springs.

Beautiful architecture surprise in the middle of a neighborhood. This house had all the comforts of home. A peaceful setting for a wonderful vacation.

This is an interesting house. It’s in a very quiet area and easy to get around. Host is very friendly and helpful.

This place is a hidden gem! We absolutely loved how quiet it was, how close it was to beaches, and the town's culture! The owners were very good at communication as well! We hope to stay again.

Nice location for our family. Quiet. I was able to walk to the beach and take our pup for a long walk. We look forward to our next trip to the turtle house!

We enjoyed our stay at The Turtle House! It was further out than I realized, but wasnt bad since the drive was on the coastline! Definitely recommend for a nice quiet area to stay!!

This was a short girl trip looking for a small town Christmas. We did enjoy our stay and the openess of the home to nature. It is not as close to downtown as we thought however. We wanted to be able to walk from the house to downtown and that was not possible for us.
