Rm 27 was a bit tired needs renovation. Especially the bathroom. It’s a long walk to the room surely the lighting and decoration might make the journey more pleasant Still no EV charging , forcing me to stop in Cardiff or Newport. Stops that I should not need to do.

Great reception greeting for my second stay, after a very long drive I was helped with my bags to my room where I also dined on very good fare. Breakfast is included and excellent across the road from the hotel at Penny Farthing. Recommended location in a nice location with ample parking

The Bear is well located in the heart of Cowbridge with ample parking. The restuarant and bar were good (and very popular "conservatory" area at its heart (lunch and dinner were busy). Food options walkable nearby. Breakfast across road in Penny Farthings - very good. The room was small but gave good night's sleep, being quiet. Some minor issues with room (blinds, lights, washbasin design), but overall this was a very good stay. Have been before and will use again

I had a single room at the front of the hotel. It was clean and tidy. I had a comfortable night. I’d like some EV charging in the car park, but there are some near the town hall a short walk away.

Very welcoming and friendly staff, dog friendly rooms, bar and breakfast. The room was very comfortable with dog bowls. Great shower and toiletries. Breakfast served in the cafe across the road which as delicious and nice to have food served rather than a semi-warm buffet! Great stay.

Perfect! Quirky, older, comfortable style. I had a room on the front - spacious, good bed linen, sparkling water and shortbread etc. Good shower (over bath). No noise from road overnight. Very cosy bar area where I ate and superb food. Can see why this would be a great place to dine in summer. I didn’t make breakfast as chose to have a lie in before heading to the office but I’ve seen it’s good

Lovely hotel with parking behind the hotel ( parking spaces on the high street are at a premium). Friendly and helpful staff, well appointed rooms and restaurants with a good choice of food. I would highly recommend a stay here.

We had a lovely 3 night stay. Our room was a wow to look at but not overly practical. The bathroom could do with a shelf to put our toiletries on. (instead we had to use the top of the loo) A light fitting above the large mirror was present but we couldn't see how it worked. If at all. A good powerful hairdryer, but the plug socket was too far away to sit at the dressing table. The room was clean, but attention to details were a little lacking. Thick dust on the bathroom extractor, dust on plug socket tops etc. The shower screen was clean but build up around the hinges. The four poster bed was beautiful to look at, but we found it a little uncomfortable. (personal taste). It was also quite noisy when turning during the night. Now I'm not suggesting that my review should put off anyone staying here, we would come back in a heartbeat! It's to draw attention for the management to address. The staff were absolutely amazing, so friendly and attentive. I even received a birthday card . The food was top notch. Overall the whole place had a relaxing vibe. It kind of gave you a hug. Thank you team Bear, we hope to be back soon.

we had a lovely stay, staff were amazing, lovely lady at reception welcomed us and was very helpful with information. There was a leak in the restaurant so had food in the lounge which was fine and service was excellent. room was just a little bit of a disappointment, bit tired looking but spotlessly clean and presented.

Extremely disappointed. Unable to stay the night due to extreme noise from a ‘disco’ under our suite until midnight. Would advise against staying at this venue as the rooms are seemingly above a club.

Lovely hotel and the town’s high street was a great find. I stayed for business and the hotels Wi-Fi was awful, meaning I couldn’t do the work I’d planned to and the mobile reception in the town was equally bad. So while the location was lovely it was a very frustrating overnight stay!!

This is a charming hotel. We were on the third floor in an alcove room. The free breakfast is at their sister restaurant across the street, The Penny Farthing, which was cute and delicious. We were happy with just about everything except that our toilet was leaking across the floor and one of the showers I took was cold. We later found out that there was a problem with the hot water and that they fixed it. The location was great for shopping and walking along the main street in Cowbridge.

Food was good and service was faultless, especially in the restaurant. Manager and waiter were brilliant. Room was a little disappointing. We were directly above the lounge and could hear the music until midnight. Also noisy road outside with it being on the main high street. Floor in the room was on a slant which was slightly off putting. Tv felt a mile for the bed on the opposite side of the room.

My only negative was that the wifi would not connect in my room - even when given an alternative network and password. It connected without issue elsewhere in the hotel. Food and room were lovely

Stayed in the cottage. Beds were atrocious. Springs could be felt right through the mattress. Shocking really. Very pleasant otherwise, but the shoddy beds ruined the experience. I’m not a complainer, but this was unacceptable.

The check in was brilliant - big thanks to the staff member who checked me and my 2 dogs in and showed us to the room and where to take the dogs for a run in the park! Room really good size and the shower was amazing. Every thing just as you want for a quick overnight stay. Parking easy and the breakfast was fab and again dog friendly.

Great reception greeting for my second stay, after a very long drive I was helped with my bags to my room where I also dined on very good fare. Breakfast is included and excellent across the road from the hotel at Penny Farthing. Recommended location in a nice location with ample parking

The Bear is well located in the heart of Cowbridge with ample parking. The restuarant and bar were good (and very popular "conservatory" area at its heart (lunch and dinner were busy). Food options walkable nearby. Breakfast across road in Penny Farthings - very good. The room was small but gave good night's sleep, being quiet. Some minor issues with room (blinds, lights, washbasin design), but overall this was a very good stay. Have been before and will use again

Great location in a nice little town. I stayed here on a business trip and managed to do a bit of local sightseeing at the same time. Breakfast at The Penny Farthing across the road was well worth it - set me up for the day!

Lovely hotel with parking behind the hotel ( parking spaces on the high street are at a premium). Friendly and helpful staff, well appointed rooms and restaurants with a good choice of food. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Room was excellent but dinner in the hotel restaurant disappointing. Several dishes not on, which meant the choice was limited, and even the wine we asked for was unavailable. Wine list was London prices (but we were in South Wales). Inclusive breakfast in Penny Farthing opposite was fantastic. Would stay here again but book for dinner in the Duke of Wellington pub opposite.

The food was delicious, the service was amazing, a wonderful place to eat, drink and sleep. We had a classic bedroom which was fine for staying the one night. It’s an old building but you can see how they’ve made the best of that. Great facilities in the rooms. Parking was easy and close to hotel. Warm and cosy. Shower was hot but need to change the shower head. Bit of a draft with the old windows but the heavy curtains and large radiator kept the room nice and warm. A mirror at the dressing table would be nice but I was happy sitting by the fabulous wall to ceiling mirror to dry my hair. We loved our stay and would definitely return. Thank you.

Perfect! Quirky, older, comfortable style. I had a room on the front - spacious, good bed linen, sparkling water and shortbread etc. Good shower (over bath). No noise from road overnight. Very cosy bar area where I ate and superb food. Can see why this would be a great place to dine in summer. I didn’t make breakfast as chose to have a lie in before heading to the office but I’ve seen it’s good

Brilliant hotel with friendly staff, the quality of service was excellent. And the food provided was incredible. Highly recommended and we will be staying again in the future.

What a stunning hotel. A really little gem in a beautiful village. With free onsite parking that has easy access to reception via the court yard. Followed by a warm and friendly greeting from the receptionist. Who was on hand help throughout our stay. The room was gorgeous and made us wish we had more time to enjoy the room and facilities. I'd highly recommend and hope to stay again soon.

We used the Bear as an overnight stop iin late July. My wife checked in early (3:30pm) as not feeling well and was able to have an afternoon nap. I didn't check in until 7:30pm but process was smooth. 31 steps to climb to our room which were a challenge for my knees! The room was basic with a small partially frosted window looking over the Cowbridge High St, but that didn't matter as we weren't expecting The Hanging Gardens of Babylon or hoards of Wildebeast crossing the plain! The only reason I've not given the Bear an overall 5 was the sloping eaves in the room. I had to be very careful getting out of bed for fear of cracking my head on the low sloping ceiling. Perhaps the bed could have been more central in the room with a smaller coffee table? Otherwise, an exceptional en suite with Bath, Loo and separate shower cubicle which was excellent. Shampoo and body wash in shower. Large cupboard/wardrobe for hanging clothes. Enjoyable stay in a quirky building. Bar used to have drink and a bar meal so didn't use restaurant and breakfast was unusual as it was across the road in a cafe owned by the hotel! Very nice. Wasn't there long enough to check out facilities/amenities so neutral score given there.
