Nations Inn - West Jefferson

The main front sign was broken which right away made us a bit leery. Room seemed to be clean - glad we had read reviews though because there was only 1/2 a roll of toilet paper so we had brought a back-up roll (other reviews had mentioned that). Conditioner container was hanging off the wall and eventually fell into the rub. Basically it reminded us of an old 1950-early 1960s motel. They did only charge us for one night though which is why we stayed there instead of the Holiday Inn since the 1 night rate for the Holiday Inn was the same as a 2 night rate. Not sure we would stay there again unless we needed a 1 night stay like this time.

This is a good clean motel, well lite parking, complimentary breakfast great price. And a convenient dollar general store next door....I forgot my toothbrush..

Good news- the staff was great. Bad news- pool overall condition, hat to Fox toilet myself, wires hanging, fire alarm had bare wires exposed, unknown liquid in bottom of refrigerator, desperately needs repairs/remodeling.

Maintenance was not good. Bathtub shower head was broken, had to hold it while showing, Tub faucet faulty, didn't let all the water through the shower head. Green mineral deposit built up on drain. Tissue dispenser empty, desk clerk alerted but didn't do anything after he said he would. Old coffee grounds left in the coffee maker. No microwave in the room. Vending machine kept my .90 cent 2 cookies. No cover over the bathroom light fixture and the ballast was humming over the sink light and the light diffuser grid laying upright in the fixture. The good: The room appeared clean, and the bed was comfortable.

It's about what one would expect for a two star hotel. Most things were functional, although dated and in ill repair. No stopper in the sink and the water backed up immediately. The ice machine didn't work and looked like it hasn't for some years. A functional place to sleep.

Great location, felt safe, employees were nice. The shower was nasty, the floors were nasty. AC had mold inside the vent. The bathroom sink faucet sprayed water out from around the handle. Ice machine and snack machines were broke. Walls in the room and curtains were nasty and the bed linens all had cigarette burns in them.

Dirty, shabby room. Dead bolt didn't work, no privacy lock. Tub dirty. Mold and mildew on shower curtain. No smoke detector only wires coming out of wallwires

One of the worst hotels I stayed at for that price. The room was so dirty and felt like it was never cleaned. Old and seems even more old!

The room smelt like mold and nasty smoke. People smoked outside our room and it came through the ac unit. Room was nasty dirty sheets never were changed had dirt and blood on them. Pillow case had greasy finger prints on them and one didnt even have a pillow case plus there was a whole in the shower wall i thought was a spider. Had to call down and ask for towels and clean sheets. Asked for different room but was told no. When we got out of our truck the car next to us smelt like dope and no one was in it. It was so noisy up to 1 am i didnt get any sleep. I dont recomend this place to anyone but the health department needs to go on and shut them down. Carpets are so dirty dont think they ever been cleaned. So disgusting. Think this is a place that drug addicts hang out since cars were in and out all night long and doors were slammed constantly. I finally went to our car and laid down in the back seat and slept. Just thankful i had brought a pillow and blanket from home. Oh and the dead bolt on the door didnt work.

I stayed 2 nights at this Nation's Inn. The room was not checked at all. There were no clean towels, no toilet paper, no tissues, no trash was taken away and no coffee refills. I went to the office and reported what had NOT happened to my room and asked for towels/wash rags and toilet paper. I was given 2 towels/wash rags and one roll of toilet paper. (The roll of toilet paper was a very small and a thin roll of paper). Therefore, I asked for another roll of toilet paper. I was told that I was ALLOWED ONLY ONE roll of toilet paper. The one roll of toilet paper that was originally in the room most of paper from the roll had been used leaving almost no paper on the roll. If I had stayed in the room any longer the first day, I would have needed more toilet paper. This used roll was not enough toilet paper for 2 people. Therefore, this was the reason that I asked for the 2nd roll of toilet paper as I knew the thin roll given was not enough. I had paid the fee for staying 2 nights and I was only allowed one roll of toilet paper? I definitely would not ever return to this hotel!!!!!

The first room they put me in had blood on the wall, and the bed wasn't made, and the trash from the people left behind no refrigerator no microwave and smelled like smoke very very disappointed and will never ever stay there again

Wouldn’t let me check room first, pd then to room I check. Bed bugs, dirty, stained sheets,stains everywhere and BED BUGS! pictures to prove. Just checked bed closet to door didn’t make it any further. Ewwwwwww. Close this place down.

Poor sound insulation from outside noise. Outdated bathroom had tiny toilet better suited for children than the adult male anatomy. But the room did have a good bed and good chairs that were comfortable and functional.

Clean comfortable and convenient

Killed a spider the first 10 minutes in the room. You could see daylight under the door. Had to wait 15 minutes to get in the room after I checked in because it hadn’t been cleaned yet

The room was very small and somewhat cramped (couldn't get much in the mini-fridge), but adequate and the price was much lower than anything else around. Had very little interaction with the staff but when I did they were courteous and professional. The place is also within minutes of Mount Jefferson and the New River. Beautiful scenery and natural attractions all over that area. The bad: The lighting was terrible. I literally couldn't hardly see to shave. It was pretty noisy at times with some fighting and carrying on by some of the other patrons.

The room was clean and bed was comfortable but I must say that there was a lot of noise outside with others staying here as in a loud car that would come and leave and come and leave etc. and there was 2 different rooms that just kept slamming the doors late at night. I have stayed here for 4 years and never had any problems until now. I don’t know if they live here and that they just don’t stay in like most do at night. But I will say this not getting much sleep is very disappointing for this hotel. I will not stay in room 122 again!!

Wasn’t a bad place to stay. I only have one complaint, I couldn’t make phone calls or get good internet.

When we checked in the hotel had us staying only 2 nights and I booked 3 nights. The lady at the front desk was so kind to change it and move people around so we could have the 3rd night. It was quiet so that made it easy to rest at night. The bed was not as comfortable as the others we have slept on here for we come here and stay every June for the past 5 years. But the bed would not keep me from coming back. I’ve slept on a lot worse! Room was clean and had everything we needed. I love it here and don’t want to leave this morning but I must go back to work. Until we meet again!!

The sole reason for choosing this place was smoking room, only to arrive and be told yes, it does state that in my reservation , and yes it is listed , but no, not available and non refundable , sorry for false advertising, have a good day.

The rooms were clean and the A/C worked. The tub spout leaked continuously. Both of the shampoo and body soap dispensers were empty. I have stayed at worse hotels but it was inexpensive and the only ones available on the date I visited the area.

We were told 3 o’clock, but we actually could not check in until after 415. We were given her key, but told right around for 15 minutes Because the room wasn’t clean. The sheets were dirty we get a second set, and they’re worse than the first set. Trash everywhere on the outside. Hair on the sheets. I have a roll of toilet paper. We had to ask for more toilet paper. We stayed here before and it wasn’t this bad. This time was horrible.!

The staff was very kind and thoughtful. When cisiting the area, I will definitely book again!

They have permanent residents staying there. They let their dogs run free without being on a leash. One off their dogs attacked my dog while I was walking her on a leash. No one on the staff. Seemed to care. The police had to be called.

The room was dirty and there were no secondary locks on the door. I was traveling with my young adult daughter and we felt it necessary to barricade the door with furniture to make up for that. There were shady looking characters that were always sitting around staring at us. The curtains were torn, and the TP dispenser needed replaced. I would have left and gotten a room somewhere else but the site said it was not refundable. They actually had a waffle maker which surprised me but it did not cook the waffles all the way through. At least the lobby was decent and the coffee was ok.

Horrible experience, that I chose to check out early and never stayed the night. I had to pay $100 deposit along with the nightly rate. The floor in my room was disgusting and needed vacuuming. Cars parked in the parking lot broken down. I did not feel safe at this hotel at all.

close to Lansing, NC (which was destination). Good value. second time we have stayed here and will be back.

Please be warned! This place is a scam. If you book a stay here and get there and realize how nasty it is you can not cancel and will be charged. People live in this hotel and the activity around the hotel itself was very unsafe. It looked like criminal activity was taking place in the parking lot. All of the locals said it was known for its bad reputation. I cannot believe Expedia books rooms for this hotel knowing that the majority of people will leave and lose money. We could not stay there and did not feel safe. Expedia should reevaluate advertising this hotel. I hope others read this review and read the google reviews before booking here.

Nice stay in a economy hotel. Convenient to restaurants and shopping. Plan to stay on my next visit to West Jefferson.

It's a pretty area and convenient location. However, the room we were in needs a deep cleaning and/or renovation(especially the bathroom). There was a quarter roll of toilet paper with no backups in the bathroom. Dirty black caulk around the base of the toilet No cups, no liner bag for the ice bucket, TV remote didn't work, burned out or missing lightbulbs. The staff was friendly. With some simple improvements it could be a nice place to stay in the future.

The woman at the front desk when we checked in was incredibly friendly and helpful. She was incredibly sweet and accommodating. The rooms are very dated, but clean. The downtown area is only a few minutes away, and the motel is across the street from the major grocery store and gas station. It was pet friendly, which was exactly what we needed.

It's old and badly in need of renovation. Even though I had a nonsmoking room, it stunk. Everything was pretty worn out: the toilet was rusted into the floor, the door wasn't straight in the frame, holes in the wall, and lots more. At least the bed was comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. The breakfast bar was a joke and the coffee machine wasn't working. Fortunately, there's a grocery store and McDonald's across the street.

Our biggest issue was with plumbing. The first room we were assigned had a tub faucet that could not be turned off and neither the TV or lamps would turn on. They may have been unplugged, but the outlet was behind a built-in cabinet and inaccessible, so we couldn't solve it ourselves. The staff graciously offered us a second room, which seemed okay at first except that we soon discovered the sink would not drain. We kept the room anyway and brushed our teeth and washed our hands in the tub, which did drain. While we were in the process of checking out the following morning, we saw a pest control truck parked next to our car, and we had no sooner put the last piece of luggage in the trunk, when the exterminator entered the room we'd vacated 30 seconds before and began spraying. We don't know if it was just a routine job or if the previous lodgers who had used that room had reported problems, but now that we're safely back home we're washing everything we took on the trip in case there was something we shouldn't be introducing into our own home. It was unsettling, to say the least. The continental breakfast was pitiful--weak coffee, yoghurt cups, make-your-own waffles, and a few pieces of shriveled fruit. That was it. No juice, bread, scrambled eggs, sausage or bacon, no pastries of any sort, although those items appeared on the website. It was a convenient location and the staff we met were reasonably pleasant, but there's not much else to recommend about it.

The rooms were shabby as expected at this price point, but I was shocked by the stink (maybe wet dog) of the room, the cigarette burn holes in the bedspread and vanity sink, and, oh my goodness, a padded toilet seat from the 1970s! The "breakfast" was just sad and limited in terms of items. The beds were good and the sheets were clean.

I booked my reservation online and when I got there they weren’t sure if they had a room for me due to overbooking. Melonie was very helpful and went to check to see if any rooms were clean/available. We had booked a double bed room and the only available room they had was what they call an “apartment”. We were only there for one night and super thankful to have a bed. It ended up being just like a mini apartment with a small living area, full kitchen, stacked washer/dryer, king bed, and bathroom. With that being said, it’s not the nicest place to stay. It didn’t feel very clean, one AC unit worked but the other didn’t, the closet door had been broken off and was shoved in the closet, there were two entrance doors and the little latch that hotel doors normally have had been broken off of both. Their “continental breakfast” is just juice, coffee, and a waffle maker. It’s very old and very run down. Take all of that into consideration, it was the cheapest place around like more than half the price of other hotels and if all you want is a bed for the night it does the job. I would not stay for more than one night.
