Jade at the front desk was amazing. The property is in a great location walking distance to restaurants and the beach. Having an EV charger on site was very helpful as well!

A nice inexpensive motel right on the coast. Easy to walk to good dining options. The Coast Trail that starts right there at the motel, is very beautiful.

This property is very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The office has limited times. So no one at the office after the 6 p.m. They also don't offer any breakfast. There are good restaurants and markets nearby though.

What a great place! We loved the stay here, the nice walk to the beach overlook was a great way to relax both at dusk and dawn. Staff was super friendly, helpful and attentive. Of all our hotels on this trip (we stayed at 5 different ones), this place truly offered a "breakfast". Unbelievable selection that should have something for anyone. I didn't appreciate it at the time but again, after all the different places that offered "breakfast included", the Surf Inn was the only one that should be allowed to say that. Thank you for a great stay and making us feel welcomed!

This property was amazing.The host is just the nicest person, very communicative and available day or night. My room was immaculate, and the views at this property were absolutely incredible.You can walk the bluff and overlook the ocean views. It's pet friendly and my little dog had a wonderful time staying here as well. There's a fire pit and outdoor seating. There are benches all along the bluff and places to sit and meditate or be still and reflect. I just enjoyed the overall time that i was here. I also got to see whales right off the shore. Highly reccomend the surf inn.

A cute little place full of potential. Got there late but instructions were waiting for us to get in room. Room was tidy but hadn't been cleaned adequately. Peeled back the comforter and there were many hairs in the bed. There was also hair in the shower and in bathroom floor. Simply not clean. I told the lady at the front desk of the situation and she had me text the picture to a number and said I'd hear from them. They never reached out. I wouldn't recommend..

Service was excellent. We checked in very early & the office wasvery friendly & accomodating. She found us a room that was already cleaned, and moved us into it so we could check-in. She was extremely friendly, gave us restaurant suggestions (both were excellent) and overall, was a perfect host. The room itself was just ok. Beds were lumpy and not very comfortable. Cleanliness could've been better...there were hairs under the covers when we pulled them back, and the bathroom was dusty and old. That said, the location is great. The room was right on the bluff overlooking the ocean. Sunset was gorgeous.

PROS 1. Views are beyond amazing 2. Jade (On-site Mgr) is really awesome. Super caring and very personable. 3. Pet Friendly. Walking paths w/poop bags available. 4. Walkable Surf Market's BBQ Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. 5. Walkable Gualala Bakery Large Pecan Rolls. 6. Amazing trail down to the beach at Gualala Point Regional Park. $7 day use fee. 7. Gualala Redwoods and River. .5 miles from the hotel. 8. Vue Kitchen - Pricey but delicious - Limited menu items - Amazing views 9. Walkable Saturday Farmers Market. 10. Hotel rooms have basic cleanliness, nice towels, nice bedding etc. One of our rooms had a full kitchen and the other had a frig and microwave. Both also had Keurig machines with kcups, sugar and cream provided. Safe, clean place to sleep. CONS 1. No direct beach access from the hotel. 2. Hotel needs a deep cleaning. Tops of light shades, blinds, window sills, area directly behind sinks and stove were very dirty. Probably not the stuff you would clean daily, but weekly should be expected. Its probably been over a year. Basic every day cleaning was great. 3. The pet walking trails are great, but be aware they are infested with fleas. Probably because of the usual spring time bloom and the fact that the path serves multiple pet friendly hotels. My dog is on the monthly flea meds and it was no match to the fleas. I went to the Gualala market and found some pet flea spray which helped until we got home. A good scrub resulted in tons of fleas.

We were greeted by the friendly owner of this property at check in. The room is clean n must be newly remodeled not long ago. We always bring our own dog supplies to include beddings, towels, bowls to alleviate extra work on the housekeepers because we know how hard they work to keep the place clean. Some of the down sides if we must pick may just be the very loose kitchen faucet, rusty flange behind the shower faucet, dusty window curtains n some wall n gap blemishes which we’re sure were oversights n can be easily fixed. We left a big tip under the pillow for the hard working housekeeping crew as we always do. We hope other travelers do the same too for these people are deserving for what they do. Oh btw we must praise this hotel having a unique scenic ocean view, and the unbeatable DAILY room cleaning. Nowadays this is tough to find. Most hotels would do every other day or every two days or only clean at check outs. If they can use more natural or unscented detergent then may even be better. Too bad no breakfast is provided but it’s easy to buy food nearby or cook your own. We did half n half. Perhaps owners can consider discount coupons for nearby restaurants for mutual gains as well. Thank you for being part of our wonderful trip!

Our room had quite a few maintenance needs. All the fixtures in the tub/shower required attention. stepping on the floor of the tub you could feel the dry rot underneath. Exhaust fan did not work. The imitation fireplace fan was wretchedly loud.

Comfort bed. Clean unit. Friendly check in gal. Bath valves leak all night and finding the sweet spot for comfortable temp impossible plus the volume of shower is very weak & inadequate. The electric door lock barely works as if its batteries are failing.

I got there at 1am but the property had sent me a text with all the information I needed to get into my room since they closed their office. Everything was easy, the location was stunning and the lady working the desk in the morning was incredibly nice! I would recommend and stay here again!

This is an amazing location and I highly recommend it! It has wonderful views and the rooms are so cute😊. Jade, the Manager, is totally awesome and we loved talking to her. Her food recommendations to both Vue Kitchen and 2fish bakery were spot-on and we highly recommend both places. Surf Inn is an excellent location to spend the night.

We arrived in Gualala several hours before we expected. We were tired and thought we'd ask, just on the chance, if there would be any possibility of an early check in. The woman who was in the office was extremely accommodating and moved us into another room, which made the early check in possible. Thanks!

Second time staying at this property. We stayed two years ago with two families. The onsite property manager was incredibly unwelcoming and overly negative when reciting the property rules, we felt uncomfortable using the common space area and were advised not to use the fire pit (not an issue, the approach was just intense — she ran up). We actually laughed at the memory, it became a joke bc the treatment was intense. Fast forward two years, we have a family event to attend and due to sheer limited options to stay we land at the same hotel, and again were treated poorly by the manager as soon as she saw we had children. While there were adults on the shared patio area carrying on and talking loudly well past 10:30pm, she made sure our families, who’s children were on the bluff trail yards away from the shared seating area, ‘were too loud and keeping her up’ at 8:50pm and again at 9:05pm, we were then asked to leave? We were informed ‘complaints had been made’, I literally saw her watching us like a hawk with her head poking out of the little house she lives onsite at, the entire time. It’s clear families aren’t welcome, they’re treated much differently than guests with no kids. The behavior and odd monitoring of our families ruined our trip. We all traveled far and wide to be here, visiting in the open space seating, on a Saturday evening, just as others were, to be harassed and watched made us anxious, uncomfortable and forced us to end our night early. Won’t be back ever.

Jade was gracious and helpful upon our arrival and during check-in. She was well prepared with info that answered any questions about the amenities and surrounding areas. She provided written instructions on how to operate the room's heating system, TV, Wi-Fi, etc. We were very pleased and impressed with her presentation.

This place is a gem. We choose to stay in this town to break up the long drive from the redwoods to San Francisco. We spent some time at the Glass Beach and were going to be running late for check in so I called and the lady working the desk (I forgot her name but she's absolutely delightful) told me what to do, our room number, where to park, etc. She had all of the information (TV channels, how to with the air conditioner, restaurants with their availability and location) very detailed and easy to understand. The room we got actually had a kitchenette and a pull out bed in addition to our two double beds, which was unexpected but appreciated! Everything was clean and comfortable. Breakfast is continental style, but does have cheese and hard boiled eggs in addition to a large assortment of granola bars, pastries, yogurt, juice, milk, and a coffee machine (so you can make yourself a late or mocha)! It was good. We also had a great view. We met a couple local seagulls that hang out there too (Gus Gus and Thumper). It really was a great experience!

Overlooks the mouth of the Gualala River as it empties into the ocean. Beautiful view! Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Very dog friendly. A very nice path runs along the bluffs just a few steps from our room. I wish that our schedule wasn't so tight so that we could stay an extra night.

Great stay here. Comfortable, close to all area attractions, walkable to shopping and dining. Views of ocean from our room were amazing! The sunset from their gathering area was the best one on our road trip.

Manager was fantastic. Took extra time with our dogs and gave us a few suggestions for dog friendly restaurants . Room was definitely dated. On the water side of the highway, beautiful view. Continental breakfast

Right outside our door is the Pacific Ocean and the beautiful Bluffs Trail. The building is old, but clean, has coffee, fridge & microwave in room. We walked to restaurants and the grocery store, and did that bluff trail several times. We sat on the beautiful deck and looked at the beach and crashing waves. Check in was quick.

Fabulous Motel! The staff was amazing and so friendly! We traveled on our motorcycle and it happened to be raining and they let us park our bike under the porch ish cover in front of the office!! <3 Great views of the ocean just a couple feet away! Food options and beach access close! We’ll definitely stay here again if we’re in the area!!

This is an amazing location and I highly recommend it! It has wonderful views and the rooms are so cute😊. Jade, the Manager, is totally awesome and we loved talking to her. Her food recommendations to both Vue Kitchen and 2fish bakery were spot-on and we highly recommend both places. Surf Inn is an excellent location to spend the night.

While this is a small property and rooms are not large it is a very nice property. Rooms are clean and comfortable and staff is very pleasant. We enjoyed our stay very much. They have also put back into place a nice grab and go breakfast with quite a few options.

This property is very clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The office has limited times. So no one at the office after the 6 p.m. They also don't offer any breakfast. There are good restaurants and markets nearby though.

We had a lovely three night stay with our small dog at the Surf Inn in August. The motel is close to everything, and the Bluff Trail is at the end of the parking lot. Breakfast at Trink's Cafe is a short walk on the trail. The staff are friendly and helpful, and even brought treats for our dog. One thing to note, if you haven't travelled much since the pandemic, many places, including the Inn, no longer provide utensils, plates, napkins, cooking pots, or dishwashing liquid. The Surf Inn does provide a coffee maker and supplies in the room. Would definitely stay there again next time we're in the area.

Excellent location. There is a area with chairs with an incredible view, where you can hang out and watch the sunset. The room is perfect for a place to land after a day hiking. The Surf Market next door has everything you could ever need. It is a very gourmet market but not stuffy. The BBQ tent has great ribs and smoked meat.

What a great place! We loved the stay here, the nice walk to the beach overlook was a great way to relax both at dusk and dawn. Staff was super friendly, helpful and attentive. Of all our hotels on this trip (we stayed at 5 different ones), this place truly offered a "breakfast". Unbelievable selection that should have something for anyone. I didn't appreciate it at the time but again, after all the different places that offered "breakfast included", the Surf Inn was the only one that should be allowed to say that. Thank you for a great stay and making us feel welcomed!

Provided a large assortment of "free" breakfast items, coffee and teas each day. Rooms all appointed with frig, keurig coffee maker and microwave which was super convenient for storing and heating drinks or leftovers. Management was excellent. Always available and super helpful.

I’ve stayed at this sweet roadside motel a couple of times over the years. What I love about it is that it’s dog friendly and it’s right there on the bluff. The rooms are clean. I’ll be at small. I do wish they had privacy curtains/blinds on the windows, they do have blackout curtains, but if you want to be in your room during the day, it feels very public and privacy screening on the windows would be a great addition. The furniture is too big for the size of the rooms, especially for the smaller rooms and it’s hard to find places to even put your suitcase. I had my suitcase open on the table, which meant I could not use the table for anything other than my luggage. The value and location of this roadside Inn is great. It’s not a place you want to hang out for an extended period of time due to the small size of the rooms but for a night traveling up the coast it’s perfect.
