Overall, our stay at the Ko’a Kea was fabulous. The entire staff were both professional and friendly. The grounds, restaurants, pool and work out facilities were all very nice. I was a little disappointed that our “Ocean View” was only really visible from our patio. In addition, the walkway to the beach is damaged and closed, making easy access difficult. The transportation options are somewhat limited. Still, we had a great time.

We loved that we could walk to the beach very easily. There are daily activities like yoga, ukulele lessons, etc. The pool and hot tub were nice especially after a day of hiking or surfing. The staff was great, they gave great recommendation on places to see on the island. There was only 2 downsides, one was how expensive the food at the restaurant is in comparison to other places around the island, including other resort restaurants. Second is that the parking is $40/day unless you park the car along the main road and walk back to the resort, which we were never told and figured out ourselves the second to last day we were there. Nonetheless this is a perfect place if you want a relaxing quiet space to vacation. It does not get rowdy, that’s not the vibe as all.

Wonderful resort with good amenities. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Right on the ocean and great beach access. The rooms are a little dated, but good overall. The restaurant was good but incredibly expensive. Pool bar was also super expensive for drinks ($20 per drink!). Also kind of ridiculous that you have to use valet even though the parking lot is literally 25 feet away from the building. It definitely seemed like they tried to nickel and dime us for everything. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I don’t think it’s worth it for the price.

Perfect stay. From check in we were given Hawaiian leis and had a wonderful overview by a staff member. Rooms were clean and quiet and beds comfortable. Housekeeping regularly cleaned each day. The pool and bar was perfect for relaxing. The ocean view was incredible with people surfing every day right in front of the resort. Valet parking was always quick and friendly. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

We really liked this resort and the smaller size and proximity to the beach. Dining was pretty limited and super expensive and we did not know ahead of time that valet parking was required at $25/day. Overall, though- we would stay there again!

The beach was very rocky. Too much effort needed to stay away while snorkeling. Guests would put their towels down for the day and leave them there. They need to have someone to take away towels that haven't been occupied for a half an hour. There weren't enough lawn chairs available to even sit on. If you to a chair down to the beach, you had to rent it. There wasn't a spot to grab a coffee in the morning without having to sit down for breakfast or taking a box to go. Ridiculous food &drink prices.

I loved the proximity to the beach. There were opportunities to snorkel right in front of our resort. Staff was friendly and responded immediately finding a new room near us when a couple in our group was assigned a room away from the rest of us. I only saw two down sides. One was the extremely high cost of breakfast at Red Salt, the resort’s restaurant. Guests need options for faster, reasonably-priced breakfasts to start busy tourist days. The second down side was the lack of beach access from the boardwalk. It appeared the stairs had washed out and they provided stacked sandbags to get to the beach. Not safe for the two 80 year olds we had with us!

This was our second trip to the Koa Kea. We love this hotel for the location/value, we love that it is on the smaller side without a ton of small kids, we love kids and have our own but on a couples getaway this is the place to be. Rooms feel high quality and comfortable. We ate there multiple times and really liked the food both at Red Salt and the Pool Bar-try the Pina Colada (dairy free and so amazing!), hurricane fries, poke bowl, açaí bowl. Staff was great! We had a fantastic couples massage at the spa there as well. My only very, very small complaints are that the jets could be stronger in the jacuzzi and the gym was not air conditioned on two of the mornings we went in but it seemed to be fixed towards the end of the trip. For a couples getaway this place is awesome!!

Looks very nice on the surface but extremely unsanitary and not a very convenient location especially if you want to be walkable to things. There are no sidewalks and the walkable part of the beach is about 1/4 mile. More importantly, - the hotel does not use fitted sheets and the mattress protector does not fit on the beds so you wake up on a bare (and stained) mattress no matter how much you try to make the bed beforehand - The comforters do not have duvet covers. Instead, they’re sandwiches between two top sheets which of course do not stay put and probably explains why the comforters are very stained - There was a lizard in our room, explained by there being a gap at the bottom of the door which opens to outside - There was a black scorpion on our balcony - Very few dining options available that are walkable or open early, which means lines at the few available ones are very long - Because everything is so inconvenient, they’re able to price gauge you by charging $60 for a burger at the pool Can’t say I recommend…

This is a beautiful resort on the water with just a few minutes walk to the main beach where we saw turtles, seals and dolphins (though the dolphins were pretty far out) we had an amazing view, it was quiet and the housekeeping service was outstanding-they came twice each day! Staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. I will definitely go back when booking my next trip!

The property is safe, not too crowded and quiet. That said, it is very dated and not maintained properly. There was black mould in the shower corners and fixtures, the grout is stained and needs to be replaced. At the prices they charge it should be way better.

Beautiful location. However, service was average at best and many times lacking substantially from particularly room service. Housekeeping was average, flat surfaces and mirrors not cleaned. The property appears worn and needs refreshing. Landscaping needs a redo; carpeting in the main restaurant was disgusting and needs to be removed. 2 very large cockroaches in our suite. Having reserved an oceanfront suite, I expected more from this property considering its recent high rating from Travel and Leisure. This certainly was NOT the case and it was disappointing. The high point was the pool bar. Great friendly customer service, prompt food and good drinks. Highly commend this staff. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this property after such high hopes.

All of the room amenities felt brand new and fresh. The housekeeping was wonderful and everything felt put together right in our room. Everyone was helpful and kind to us. We even enjoyed the lei making class offered. My only complaint would be their description of “ocean view“ might be a bit different than mine. My wife and I thought this property was terrific. The staff and service were great, as was the location. The room wasn’t brand new (compared to 5 star expectations), but was very clean and nice. We paid for an upgrade and had a great ocean and pool/courtyard view. With only 120 or so rooms, we felt like guests and not like a number. Would definitely stay here again.

Rooms and amenities would benefit from an update at this price point. Minor annoyances: toilet runs all night, some plugs in room not working. Staff were great and provided compensation for any errors made on their end. Always lots of fresh towels and water bottles daily. We did enjoy our stay and can recommend.

The hotel staff are friendly, the rooms are relatively clean but the beds are super uncomfortable, it's hard to believe that such a nice hotel would not invest in having high quality beds for hotel guests! The restaurant is a little over-priced for the quality of food provided. The rooms are clean but be prepared for a rough night of sleep because of the beds which seem to be a #1 complaint of the hotel guests, the hotel also needs to clarify its tipping policy, given the gratuity fees and the expectation of staff, it's confusing who gets what when!

We were excited about Koa Kea but left feeling disappointed and short-changed. I visited in 2011 and had a great time, things have certainly changed since being acquired by Pacific Hospitality Group. Check-in was super friendly and the sunsets are beautiful, with amazing hikes nearby, but everything else felt like a huge cash grab. Rooms are overpriced and ours (a garden view) faced a wooden fence with zero privacy. The furnishings were tired. We had about 5 medium sized cockroaches in our bathroom too. Extras are charged for almost everything (tho the free sunrise yoga was free and great). There’s an aggressive email marketing system targeting upgrades, valet parking is mandatory at $40+ a day, and even “Luxury” poolside daybeds are extra, supposedly with great service, but we experienced none. In fact, we had to chase down our included fruit plate at the end of the day. Late check out at 1pm is $100, 3pm is $200 extra! The hotel hosted a free cheese and wine hour with live music which was a nice touch. The external watersports company is great. There aren’t nearly enough loungers around the pool, especially shaded ones, making it hard to enjoy what little there is in terms of amenities. The food is wildly overpriced — $60 for a burger and drove us to eat offsite. Koa Kea tries to present itself as a luxury boutique resort, but it doesn’t deliver. We won’t be returning.

Wry nice room but decks are small with no privacy. When people in next room were on their deck they could see into our room. The front desk personnel were not helping file with directions l. They actually said that a destination wanted directions to were not on their list. The parking valet attendants were friendly and helpful as was housekeeping

Perfect stay. From check in we were given Hawaiian leis and had a wonderful overview by a staff member. Rooms were clean and quiet and beds comfortable. Housekeeping regularly cleaned each day. The pool and bar was perfect for relaxing. The ocean view was incredible with people surfing every day right in front of the resort. Valet parking was always quick and friendly. We would stay again in a heartbeat!

Beautiful property. I liked how it felt a bit smaller than some other resorts, but you don’t feel confined. The food and drinks were great. Everything at the resort was clean and well taken care of. All of the room amenities felt brand new and fresh. The housekeeping was wonderful and everything felt put together right in our room. Everyone was helpful and kind to us. We even enjoyed the lei making class offered. My only complaint would be their description of “ocean view“ might be a bit different than mine. I would have only called my room partial at the very best.

We were upgraded to an ocean view room. Spectacular! Super quiet, comfortable bed, excellent shower and great Nespresso! The staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Had great dinner recommendations from our valet. Walking distance to shopping and eating. Don’t miss a dinner or breakfast at Red Salt. Short drive to other eating and shopping.

Very quiet, primarily Adults, no screaming kids. Thought we'd try a package w/Expedia and thought we booked a partial ocean view room. Got a "garden" view (which was a fence and looking at another building) 😜. Nothing that another $1-200 upgrade won't fix however. Resort fee is $45 (not included in Expedia "package price) and parking is $35 also not included in "package price." Restaurant (Red Salt) was nice, got a $45 lamb chop dinner that costs $85. and a $20 btl of wine that was $66. Paradise is not cheap. Restaurant charged $10 to split a $19 salad and had to get up for salt and pepper. Since we were celebrating 50th, we did get a "happy anniversary" and front desk did give us 2-chocolates which were outstanding and a couple of Mai-Tai's. Property was very well kept but felt we were nickel & dimed.

The resort itself isn't anything special, it is kind of old school, but we like that. But the location is really spectacular, and we had a third floor ocean front room with one of the best views we've ever seen in Hawaii. That really made the stay! The fitness center is pretty good. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was mediocre, and we felt overpriced. But the view from my room was sus spectacular that we would go back to this hotel just for that, as long as we could be sure to get a similar room next time!

Overall, our stay at the Ko’a Kea was fabulous. The entire staff were both professional and friendly. The grounds, restaurants, pool and work out facilities were all very nice. I was a little disappointed that our “Ocean View” was only really visible from our patio. In addition, the walkway to the beach is damaged and closed, making easy access difficult. The transportation options are somewhat limited. Still, we had a great time.

We chose the Ko'a Kea Resort due to its proximity to the Kauai Half Marathon start and finish locations. But we were soon thrilled with our choice as it was perfect. The welcome on check in and through out our stay was exceptional. The food at the hotel's Red Salt was delicious and well presented. We spent time at the pool and nearby beaches. The pool bar was quick to delivery drinks. We wish we'd been able to stay longer. In fact, we're planning our return visit.

Beautiful boutique hotel with a relaxing vibe. All staff team members were great and very accomodating to all of our needs. Would like to especially applaud Dawn at the front desk, night shift . We didn't quite change over to the time zone and she was such a delight in the early morning hours, even grabbing coffee for me before Normal Cafe hours . A true delight was an invitation for wine tasting by the lovely owners and their children . These special touches sealed the deal for us, we will be returning !

Great location near restaurants, hiking, water activities and shopping. Very quiet and not crowded which really contributed to a relaxing vacation. The small size makes it more intimate but limits amenities. Uneven staff training - valets were great, concierge was worse than useless. Paid for a special chef's dinner ($$$$) which was fun - somelier and wine were excellent, but the food fell short of expectation. Go to Merriman's instead. Would stay here again because of the location and the relaxing ambience.

This place is great. Our room is very clean. This is the first resort that I didn't mind pay the resort fee. I don't feel like the nickels and dime me to death. I never stayed at any hotel/resort that give us unlimited bottle water through out our stay. When we got there in the evening, we got a welcome cocktails and there was live music and hula dancer. Everyone were so GENUINELY NICE. Will definitely go back again.

I have nothing negative to say about our experience and stay at Ko’a Kea resort. The bellman was so helpful on great things to do on the island. The servers at the restaurant were always so friendly. The location is perfect, right by the beach but not overly crowded. It’s super close to see the sea turtles in the late afternoon/evening. They offer complimentary yoga classes each morning and the setting was lovely, right in front of the beach/ocean. I got a massage and chose the beach setting…it was magical and the therapist was lovely. Lastly, we requested a late check out, however they were not able to accommodate us. But they did have a hospitality room that we could use for one hour to clean up and get ready for our late evening flight back to the mainland at no additional cost. I 1000% recommend this resort!

We truly enjoyed the Koa Kea for our first visit to Kauai. The staff is truly AWESOME. It's a very nice facility in a good location. We recommend it highly. Downsides: 1. Skip the ocean view upgrade. 2. Valet parking only. If you aren't used to it, it's a pain in the butt to always be worried about coming up with money for tips. The valets are great, and well worth the tip, but I can park my own car, thank you. 3. The fake little Nespresso machines in the room don't cut it. I can never understand why nice hotels can't get the coffee thing right. You can have a couple espressos in your room, or you can walk up to the shop and wait for a couple $5.00 cups of black coffee. I just don't get it. Sometimes we just go to Walmart and buy a coffee maker, but forgot this time. 4. The free logo flip flops are a nice touch. This is a great place to stay.

This is a beautiful resort on the water with just a few minutes walk to the main beach where we saw turtles, seals and dolphins (though the dolphins were pretty far out) we had an amazing view, it was quiet and the housekeeping service was outstanding-they came twice each day! Staff was exceptionally nice and helpful. I will definitely go back when booking my next trip!

Excellent location on Poipu Beach. Red Salt restaurant is first class in terms of cuisine and service. Although a car is recommended to explore the Island of Kauai, Koa Kea is walkable to shopping village and nearby restaurants. Rooms were well appointed. Excellent staff and service. Highly recommend!!

Staff was friendly and responded immediately finding a new room near us when a couple in our group was assigned a room away from the rest of us. I only saw two down sides. One was the extremely high cost of breakfast at Red Salt, the resort’s restaurant. Guests need options for faster, reasonably-priced breakfasts to start busy tourist days. The second down side was the lack of beach access from the boardwalk. It appeared the stairs had washed out and they provided stacked sandbags to get to the beach. Not safe for the two 80 year olds we had with us!

We loved that we could walk to the beach very easily. There are daily activities like yoga, ukulele lessons, etc. The pool and hot tub were nice especially after a day of hiking or surfing. The staff was great, they gave great recommendation on places to see on the island. There was only 2 downsides, one was how expensive the food at the restaurant is in comparison to other places around the island, including other resort restaurants. Second is that the parking is $40/day unless you park the car along the main road and walk back to the resort, which we were never told and figured out ourselves the second to last day we were there. Nonetheless this is a perfect place if you want a relaxing quiet space to vacation. It does not get rowdy, that’s not the vibe as all.
We loved that we could walk to the beach very easily. There are daily activities like yoga, ukulele lessons, etc. The pool and hot tub were nice especially after a day of hiking or surfing. The staff was great, they gave great recommendation on places to see on the island. There was only 2 downsides, one was how expensive the food at the restaurant is in comparison to other places around the island, including other resort restaurants. Second is that the parking is $40/day unless you park the car along the main road and walk back to the resort, which we were never told and figured out ourselves the second to last day we were there. Nonetheless this is a perfect place if you want a relaxing quiet space to vacation. It does not get rowdy, that’s not the vibe as all.

Nice boutique hotel, small pool, beautiful views. Walkable beach where turtles beach themselves each evening for a rest! Only disappointment was the restaurant. Food was cold and uninspiring. The restaurant also lacked atmosphere.

Wonderful resort with good amenities. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Right on the ocean and great beach access. The rooms are a little dated, but good overall. The restaurant was good but incredibly expensive. Pool bar was also super expensive for drinks ($20 per drink!). Also kind of ridiculous that you have to use valet even though the parking lot is literally 25 feet away from the building. It definitely seemed like they tried to nickel and dime us for everything. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but I don’t think it’s worth it for the price.

We chose the Ko'a Kea Resort due to its proximity to the Kauai Half Marathon start and finish locations. But we were soon thrilled with our choice as it was perfect. The welcome on check in and through out our stay was exceptional. The food at the hotel's Red Salt was delicious and well presented. We spent time at the pool and nearby beaches. The pool bar was quick to delivery drinks. We wish we'd been able to stay longer. In fact, we're planning our return visit.

Very quiet, primarily Adults, no screaming kids. Thought we'd try a package w/Expedia and thought we booked a partial ocean view room. Got a "garden" view (which was a fence and looking at another building) 😜. Nothing that another $1-200 upgrade won't fix however. Resort fee is $45 (not included in Expedia "package price) and parking is $35 also not included in "package price." Restaurant (Red Salt) was nice, got a $45 lamb chop dinner that costs $85. and a $20 btl of wine that was $66. Paradise is not cheap. Restaurant charged $10 to split a $19 salad and had to get up for salt and pepper. Since we were celebrating 50th, we did get a "happy anniversary" and front desk did give us 2-chocolates which were outstanding and a couple of Mai-Tai's. Property was very well kept but felt we were nickel & dimed.

This was our second trip to the Koa Kea. We love this hotel for the location/value, we love that it is on the smaller side without a ton of small kids, we love kids and have our own but on a couples getaway this is the place to be. Rooms feel high quality and comfortable. We ate there multiple times and really liked the food both at Red Salt and the Pool Bar-try the Pina Colada (dairy free and so amazing!), hurricane fries, poke bowl, açaí bowl. Staff was great! We had a fantastic couples massage at the spa there as well. My only very, very small complaints are that the jets could be stronger in the jacuzzi and the gym was not air conditioned on two of the mornings we went in but it seemed to be fixed towards the end of the trip. For a couples getaway this place is awesome!!

Loved everything about this property. Was so sad to leave. The setting right in the ocean, the facilities, the attention to detail in the rooms, the luxuries like large bath sheets instead of regular towels, 2 shower heads, the waterproof bracelet keys so you didn’t have to fumble around to find your key ever, the Red Salt restaurant with the incredible pineapple soufflé pancake breakfast, the cocktails at the pool bar, the friendly and accommodating staff, the nespresso maker in the room; etc it was all outstanding! 💖

The resort itself isn't anything special, it is kind of old school, but we like that. But the location is really spectacular, and we had a third floor ocean front room with one of the best views we've ever seen in Hawaii. That really made the stay! The fitness center is pretty good. Breakfast at the hotel restaurant was mediocre, and we felt overpriced. But the view from my room was sus spectacular that we would go back to this hotel just for that, as long as we could be sure to get a similar room next time!

We had a ocean front room, and it had an amzing view of the water. I've sat in the balcony every day watching, listning the the waves. The restaurant Red Salt is quite good, and the servers were all very friendly. Will go back again.

The Koa’Kea was perfect! We’re not typically “resort people,” so we chose Koa’Kea because we loved the idea of a smaller, boutique hotel—and it ended up being exactly what we were looking for. We ate at both the pool bar and the sushi bar and were so impressed with the food and drinks. The staff was also wonderful and helped us with every request (and I feel like I asked a lot of questions!). Everyone was incredibly kind and accommodating. We absolutely loved our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back!

What a nice surprise with this hotel, as it is right on the beach, where you can lie down to lounge to your left on the beach or go right to snorkel. The best part of this hotel is that it is quiet and relaxing and not heaving with people. The rooms are huge, and the walk-in shower is huge. I loved the peaceful garden room on the first floor. As I walked around other hotels, they were heaving with yelling kids and so many people; this was just such a genuinely relaxing hotel, and everything was easy to get to. At this hotel, you can walk to other restaurants, beaches, and coffee shops. I do recommend Red Salt as it is a great choice for dinner. However, nothing can walk over and get yourself a Puka Dog and watch the sea turtles on the beach. This is also a great launching point for summer boat trips along the Napali Coast and for hiking Waima Canyon.
