Overall a beautiful hotel. However, I've stayed in many higher end hotels, but have NEVER not had hot water in the morning. When I called the front desk, the girl that answered giggled and said, yeah, we're getting quite a few call on that and the hotel was working on gettin it boosted. Talked to several on elevator on way down, that also had to go without a shower, and all were not happy to say the least. Affected several floors and seemed to be hit or miss. Very disappointing stay.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The secret speakeasy downstairs was very cool. Unfortunately, for being the nicest hotel in Des Moines, there were a couple of serious issues. The main problem is we had no hot water the first morning of our stay. We were told too many people were showering at the same time? We were in town for a funeral so we couldn’t wait it out. Pretty insane, could have stayed at a much cheaper hotel and not had this issue. We paid $40 per night for valet, we had an early flight and when we called valet to get our car, we were told they weren’t open yet and they weren’t sure how we would get it. They did eventually get our car but it was not the experience you expect at that price tag. With the hot water issue, my husband asked to have the valet comped, the front desk agreed and charged us anyway. Really just a bummer all around.

Lesson learned to find a hotel that doesn’t host weddings if I’m looking for quiet rooms. We could hear the beat of the bass of the speakers up on the 7th floor. The night prior, there was a small circus or very active toddler above us, running and jumping from 10-11 pm, maybe working off wedding energy before bed. We were there for a marathon, so decent sleep was important. That aside, the hotel is beautiful, staff are friendly and helpful, providing extra pillows to put over our heads the 2nd night and earplugs. Nice, quiet location too, and easy to get places. I’d stay again despite my sleep sensitivity to the noise!
