Overall, the stay was very good and was perfect for our trip to the Lake District. The location is perfect for navigating the Lakes as easy access to the M6. To the top of the lakes, it took us 1 hour by car. The continental breakfast served was plenty to start each day with. You can have cooked for £12 extra but we felt the continental option was more than enough. The room was spacious and up to date. We stayed in the Herdsman. Only downside was the walls are very thin, meaning you can hear quite a lot next door conversation but that is to be expected in a pub with partition walls. The pub itself is traditional and well kept together. Food served was standard pub food. Free parking is always a massive bonus.

The food (££’s priced) was well cooked / presented and above the standard we have encountered in similar PH’s. The included Continental Breakfast was reasonably extensive and provided a good start to our day. Our only ‘minor’ observations for consideration are: 1) The provision of some basic clothing storage (shelves) in the room would be useful. Also, we had a bedside table on one side - an additional on the other would be handy. 2) The selection of fruit and cakes within the Breakfast was better on the Tuesday morning, presumably after weekend restocking. We do point out that the selection on our first morning (Monday) was OK (adequate), it was just noticeably larger on the Tuesday. After travelling around the UK for four weeks, this is one hotel we can wholeheartedly recommend. Great food, great service, good room. The only complaint we thought we were going to have, was too much light from the exterior lights coming through the curtains, but we had overlooked that the window also had a blind!

Adequate room, comfortable, great food, loads of parking, unfortunately I left before breakfast and allthough I was offered to use the breakfast room for toaster I think a few more options would have been welcomed. Overall no real issues, young lady behind the bar was very helpful and curteous.

Had a lovely stopover on the way south The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was lovely and well cooked with big portions. Would definitely stay there again it was really nice.

Wonderful stay here, much better than I could have anticipated. The staff are lovely and there's nothing they can't do for you. Worth noting, we travelled when the weather conditions turned horrific with the snow. This venue has a lot of travellers stranded and opened up their function room to help those stranded (all rooms were booked) - absolutely wonderful to see as they more than extended their hospitality and they should be commended for that.

Accommadition very poor no shelves to put anything on no shelf in shower.Towels werent changed.Had to live out of a case. Continental breakfast was very poor didnt realise you had to pay for a full english until we got there .Breakfast room was cold & uninviting..No hairdryer .The staff were friendly but don't think we will stay again needs alot of improvement.

I stayed here a few years ago and it was good then. The upgrade to the hotel is fabulous. Mid afternoon arrival, everything in the room was new or spotless. The addt charge for breakfast was good value. The staff especially Jordan were very helpful.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean, good linen and there were enough choices at the continental breakfast. I give this review so that the hotel can take steps to rectify what, to us, seems obvious and beneficial for future guests:- No bedside lights, only a harsh overhead bright light. I love to read in bed but it was unfair to keep my partner awake. The duvet would have been right for a winter's day, however, it was a warm summer's evening and it was impossible to sleep with such a thick covering. It just wasn't a pleasant room to be in, overlooking a wall and the other guest's window. Sadly we won't be booking again.

Staying one night meeting with family. Room was small, nowhere to put a suitcase, no charger in bathroom for toothbrushes of shaver. Meal was more expensive than on website menu. Booked through Hotels.com and described as bed and breakfast, When we arrived breakfast was described as Continental. Cereals, tea, coffee, toast and small shop dry pastries. Told there was yoghurts in fridge, actually 2 only there. Breakfast was from 6am but no staff until 8am, you had to make breakfast yourself. Really disappointed as location is lovely.

Can’t fault the service received. All of the staff were extremely friendly and professional. The room was comfortable but fairly small and the weather was extremely warm so we had a quite unpleasant night as we were unable to open the window due to mozzie/midge invasion!! There is no air con nor fans in the room

Travelling with 4 year old daughter, very good stay, stayed for one night to visit family in Kendal, less than 10 mins drive away, large comfortable room, clean and nicely presented, good sized bed and comfortable, shared bed with daughter, large room was unexpected and ideal for her to play, smart decor throughout, didn't eat in bar so can't comment of food but the continental breakfast included although fairly basic was decent and a good selection of options (cooked breakfast you needed to order and separate charge). Small play park outside was also very nice. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

There was a party on I. The bar/room below our room and was very shouty and noisy. We had to call reception before they quietens down. This was just before midnight and we were very tired.

Greeted by a cheerful and friendly member of staff. Booked in and showed to our room, called the Collie room. A lovely picture of a collie dog on the wall and two collie dog mugs in the room. Cosy room with comfy bed. The only minor drawback was that there was no bedside lights which was slightly awkward for reading

When we got there wanted a card number but only had my phone, so had to leave a £50 deposit until checked out. No where did it mention this when booking or on confirmation email. Booking stated breakfast was included in price but only basic continental. They wanted £12 each extra if wanted full breakfast. This breakfast type should have been stated on hotels.com site. No bed side lamp in rooms so had to get out of bed to turn main light off. Staff was friendly but hotel price was not worth it for the standard of accommodation received and I have stayed in 100s of different hotels during my career.

Wonderful stay here, much better than I could have anticipated. The staff are lovely and there's nothing they can't do for you. Worth noting, we travelled when the weather conditions turned horrific with the snow. This venue has a lot of travellers stranded and opened up their function room to help those stranded (all rooms were booked) - absolutely wonderful to see as they more than extended their hospitality and they should be commended for that.

Really like this place, we stayed elsewhere earlier in the year, wish we hadn’t. The management & staff were all very approachable and welcoming. Great fresh food of an evening and breakfast offering good too. All you need in the room BUT Pillows may need attention, (that’s not a negative just preference) Will be heading back soon

Overall, the stay was very good and was perfect for our trip to the Lake District. The location is perfect for navigating the Lakes as easy access to the M6. To the top of the lakes, it took us 1 hour by car. The continental breakfast served was plenty to start each day with. You can have cooked for £12 extra but we felt the continental option was more than enough. The room was spacious and up to date. We stayed in the Herdsman. Only downside was the walls are very thin, meaning you can hear quite a lot next door conversation but that is to be expected in a pub with partition walls. The pub itself is traditional and well kept together. Food served was standard pub food. Free parking is always a massive bonus.

very nice stop off if travelling on M6 as much better than a Travellodge or Motorway motel . Lovely cosy room with all amenities . Only gripe , kitchen closed at 8 which does seem very early , but that is up to them .

Travelling with 4 year old daughter, very good stay, stayed for one night to visit family in Kendal, less than 10 mins drive away, large comfortable room, clean and nicely presented, good sized bed and comfortable, shared bed with daughter, large room was unexpected and ideal for her to play, smart decor throughout, didn't eat in bar so can't comment of food but the continental breakfast included although fairly basic was decent and a good selection of options (cooked breakfast you needed to order and separate charge). Small play park outside was also very nice. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others.

Very pleasant even though there was some building work going on, no noice evident. Room is ok clean and tidy. The food was excellent and staff were friendly. Not much around but ideal for my business trip to Kendal.

Staying one night meeting with family. Room was small, nowhere to put a suitcase, no charger in bathroom for toothbrushes of shaver. Meal was more expensive than on website menu. Booked through Hotels.com and described as bed and breakfast, When we arrived breakfast was described as Continental. Cereals, tea, coffee, toast and small shop dry pastries. Told there was yoghurts in fridge, actually 2 only there. Breakfast was from 6am but no staff until 8am, you had to make breakfast yourself. Really disappointed as location is lovely.

Staff were attentive and kind. Room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Shower was excellent. The pub itself offered a wide range of drinks which were reasonably priced. The food (££’s priced) was well cooked / presented and above the standard we have encountered in similar PH’s. The included Continental Breakfast was reasonably extensive and provided a good start to our day. Our only ‘minor’ observations for consideration are: 1) The provision of some basic clothing storage (shelves) in the room would be useful. Also, we had a bedside table on one side - an additional on the other would be handy. 2) The selection of fruit and cakes within the Breakfast was better on the Tuesday morning, presumably after weekend restocking. We do point out that the selection on our first morning (Monday) was OK (adequate), it was just noticeably larger on the Tuesday. After travelling around the UK for four weeks, this is one hotel we can wholeheartedly recommend. Great food, great service, good room. The only complaint we thought we were going to have, was too much light from the exterior lights coming through the curtains, but we had overlooked that the window also had a blind!

When we got there wanted a card number but only had my phone, so had to leave a £50 deposit until checked out. No where did it mention this when booking or on confirmation email. Booking stated breakfast was included in price but only basic continental. They wanted £12 each extra if wanted full breakfast. This breakfast type should have been stated on hotels.com site. No bed side lamp in rooms so had to get out of bed to turn main light off. Staff was friendly but hotel price was not worth it for the standard of accommodation received and I have stayed in 100s of different hotels during my career.

The hotel was comfortable and clean, the staff very friendly & helpful we only had one thing that meant only 4 star rating & that was our lunch, very over priced for what we got, a roast beef sandwich should have thicker meat - please not wafer thin! Still recommend the hotel and would stay there again

Stayed here one night on our way home to Scotland. The property is easy to find with plenty free parking. Easy check in with helpful, friendly staff. The room was very clean, tea and coffee in the room, everything you need. We had a meal here in the evening and it was delicious. Really enjoyed our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Gilpin Bridge Inn.
