Great The only inconvenient is there was only one elevator for the whole building

Hotel in good location but ongoing repairs to elevators very inconvenient and caused long delays to access rooms.,will not return until elevator repaid complete/ now over several months

Clean, AC in room very loud, constantly turning on and off. Only one elevator was in service.

The only thing I didn’t like was that there was only one elevator working. Other than that everything was amazing. Would def stay here again.

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and stylish but looked a little disheveled, crooked pictures on the walls, damaged lamp shade by the bed, mirror in bathroom showing significant water damage on its frame. I would have appreciated an area rug to soften and quiet things in the room. The gym was very good. The staff at Tavern on Rush were efficient and helpful although I am sorry Nico is no longer operating.

Elevator broken so wait times were very inconvenient, getting Engineering to come fix wifi issues was very slow, had to call twice and even afterwards, it was not fixed, was unable to cast my devices for 2 days, engineering said it was a wifi issue and never returned to assist me. I also had to call multiple times to get room cleaned. I won’t return.

One elevator. Everyone was complaining about it. Had I known one elevator was servicing a 20 story hotel, I would have found another one to stay at. Unacceptable.

Exellent location, friendly staff. Only one elevator was in service at the time of my stay in April 2025.

The elevator was terribly slow. We waited 45 minutes on a Sunday to check out. We had a stroller so stairs were not an option. Beware of slow elevator times if you are on a lower floor. By the time the elevator, came to my floor, it was full from guests on a higher level.

Amazing stay! Staff were awesome. The room was so clean. The downstairs restaurant was also great. Also a wonderful location!!

The staff was super friendly and helpful from the very start. The location is great we were walking distance to a lot of shops and nice restaurants. Room was clean and spacious. Overall it was a wonderful experience and we would stay here again.

The hotel location is great. It’s close to shops, restaurants, and entertainment. It’s very walkable to Michigan Avenue. The room was not as advertised on the website. The speak was dated and didn’t have a Bluetooth connection. The entrance walls were dirty with scuff marks and residue. The brown couch in the living room had a tone of white stains. The cords from the TV were so disorganized and hanging from the base of the desk. Lastly the heating/cooling unit was exceptionally loud. I don’t think I would stay at this hotel again but it was an okay experience for a winter weekend trip.

Beautiful hotel with friendly staff. Room was spotless clean and roomy. The restaurant was under renovation but there were several restaurants within walking distance. I would definitely stay at the Thompson again!

Loved this hotel, clean and beautiful. My room was immaculate.

The staff was friendly and able to help, but unfortunately I found a bedbug in my bed my first night. They were very professional about it though but not something you want to run into your first night.

Check-in was seamless, all staff were very friendly and welcoming. The carpet in elevator was always dirty and there were definitely… bodily fluids on the velvet sofas in our room. I had to call house cleaning up to clean it up. Knocked 1 star for that. Other than that, we had a wonderful stay.

The stay was overall great! Only thing is, one of our towels had a sewing needle in it. We are truly unaware of how that would even happen. But it basically punctured skin. It wasn’t too bad, but we shouldnt have needles in our towels especially if they are being folded and placed every day by hand.

My stay at The Thompson Chicago was excellent. My room was spacious and had a great view of the lake. The floor to ceiling windows provided amazing natural light. Housekeeping came to clean everyday which was most appreciated.The front desk staff was very pleasant and hospitable and answered any questions I had. Will definitely stay here again!

I did a ton of research before booking, wanting a city view was top priority. The pictures and description on hotels.com was cross referenced with the hotel website pics. The booking was two double beds high floor, pics show these ground to ceiling windows but the room we actually got was two normal windows and very small space, nothing like the pics. I did inform the front desk wondering if we got the wrong room, but we were assured that the room was correct and the front desk attendant said hotels.com has generic pictures and are not accurate. I explained it was exactly the same pics from the Thompson website and she had nothing to say. It was St.Patty’s day weekend and they were fully booked so no resolution. Still had a pretty view at night. .They had one elevator for a maxed out capacity hotel and it was absolutely awful. We took the stairs 19 floors down multiple times. The hotel was beautiful, very clean, the restaurant attached is a loud night club vibe, lots of traffic late into the night. I had two teens, we didn’t mind much, but I could see that being a turn off to some. The Gold Coast is a very nice area, we parked our car like two streets (not two blocks, like a 2min walk) over in a garage we reserved, use the spot hero app, don’t pay the hotel for valet. It’s super close and much cheaper. Easy shopping, lots of up scale stores, and food, we used public transportation and walked for everything. Also no mini fridge for our food either which was a bummer..

Our room was a nice size and included an L Shaped sofa. The bathroom was also a nice size with a rainfall shower and great smelling products. We were located near the elevator, and we could hear things in the hallway at times, so that was a bummer. Check in and check out was quick during non peak times! One elevator was out of service due to their remodeling, so it was a little inconvenient. They finally opened the new restaurant and bar. We didn’t get to try it out, but it looked really nice and busy! We were able to get out and walk to other places right in the vicinity. The hotel’s location was easily walkable. Overall, we had a good experience and would return.

room looked worn, filthy marks on the wall. chipped furniture. Noisy AC. AC blasts directly on to you on the bed.

Really good stay at the Thompson. Fantastic location in the Gold Coast area right on the triangle with Gibsons, Tavern on Rush, Bellevue & Luxbar all on the doorstep. Room was great, really comfortable bed, superb shower and toiletries and an amazing view from floor 19. Common areas were really nice - there seemed to be a slight issue with the drains on occasion (!) but that did not affect the rooms at all, just the entrance area. Staff really helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay here again

Hotel was very convenient given our dinner reservations across the street. The lake view off the 20th floor was slightly blocked by other buildings but nice. Though Expedia should call out it's not a complete view of the lake for the extra cost. Building only had 2 elevators for 21 floors...and one of the elevators was broken. So it took forever to get the elevator at times. No ice machines on the floor. No fridge in the room.

I am normally a Marriott guy, but I did something different this time on my recent trip to Chicago. I have been to some of the Thompson Hotel restaurants mainly in Austin, Texas, but I have never stayed in the Thompson. The Thompson Hotel in Chicago and the Gold Coast… I loved. From the dark and moody lobby to the great Customer Service to the beautiful room… Spacious great furnishings super amazing bed and don’t get me started on the bathroom. The walk-in shower with the rain head and amazing pressure and great body products. The only issue I had was at one point the toilet was acting a little funky and overflowed, but they came and fixed it and it was fine. This hotel used to be something different years ago, so I understand that the building is old. You would never be able to tell from the lobby and from the rooms. Little touches like push button light switches that were back lit at night to the corner couch with huge mirror grateful for getting ready and having extra space in the room. I am definitely a fan now.

Wonderful room, was big with tons of windows, views of the lake. Bed was so comfortable.

Everything was great till the end. I called the front desk to get my car 15 min before i needed to leave and told the desk i need my car to catch my flight. I waited 40 min to get my car they had 7 people in front of me and i told them please ima miss my flight. And yes i did i missed my flight and i sat in the airport trying to find another flight. And i looked they still charged me for $75 valet. amazing

Poor experience overall. There was no restaurant, no bar, and/or no room service. Additionally, it was to noisy: I could rest, sleep or be calm because of the noise being so strong that it even gave us a headache. But the worst part was Jasmine. A receptionist that started screaming to me when I was giving feedback during the checkout. She was too rude. I was disrespected by her... I even felt humiliated. She will be the main reason I will never be backt o the hotel and will never recommend anyone to do it.

Stay @ Thompson every couple of months... ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Ahmad @ Front Desk is total "class act"... All the front end staff is exceptional. Also, our maid service is very solid and considerate, for our multiple day stays...👏👏👏

Was really excited to stay here but upon arrival we were told there were no rooms available even though we had a reservation AND I called ahead to confirm that we had a reservation and were all good 48 hours prior. We were offered stay and transportation at their sister hotel. The transportation took almost 40min to arrive, they gave our taxi to someone else. We called our own Uber because we were going to miss our dinner reservation that took a month to reserve. Next time, I hope they are better prepared for a situation like this. We were so excited to stay here and this really disappointed me beyond belief

This hotel is located in a little neighborhood right off of State St and ia surrounded by cute restaurants.

Absolutely loved this hotel! It was in a very nice area with lots of shopping and restaurants within walking distance. We had a corner room and it provided plenty of space. The bathroom was very roomy with a separate tub and shower, and the cozy robes were a nice touch. There was also a stocked mini bar with a large variety of snacks and drinks. The entire hotel was very clean with great views of the city. Although there was a restaurant attached, we did not eat there so I cannot comment on the food, however, it was always full of people so I would say it’s probably pretty good. I would definitely stay again.

IT was a last minute booking that I made 20 minutes before arrival. They had a room ready and cleaned. Front desk was helpful. *** NO BAR/ NO Restaurant /NO FOOD OPTIONS At this price point and in this type of upscale part of downtown you would hope they had some food options. They said it was under renovations, but my understanding its been months. I stayed two nights, and even when i requested my sheets be changed, b/c i had spilled a drink on them, i came back to made bed but with the same soiled sheets on my bed. Also parking WAS WAYYYYY TO HIGH. Overnight parking was $75 a day. There are lots in the area going for $20-$30 max for 24 hours. valet was way overpriced.

The hotel bar and restaurant was completely closed during the stay with a very minimal room service menu from 7am-11am only. We were not notified of this ahead of time and it’s still not indicated on Hyatt site if you book directly through them. This is unacceptable.

Above and beyond service. The area the hotel is located in has so much to do and a great restaurant and bar.

First time in Chicago and the hotel could hardly be more central. The addition of the bar/restaurant is fantastic and we ate/drank there every night!

Extended weekend trip to Chicago. Thompson Chicago has a great location in a neighborhood packed with restaurants and shops. But the rooms in the hotel are showing signs of some wear and tear. The restaurant and bar are currently closed for renovation.

Check-in was slow, substantial fees, and sent to room that was occupied. Rooms are well appointed and very clean. Laundry service was very good. Restaurant (Tavern on Rush) was closed for renovation, which will make a big difference.

One elevator was out of service but we were notified in advance. Having Tavern on Rush in the lobby is a great feature!!

The room and view were fantastic. The restaurant was top notch and the staff was very friendly.

Very nice hotel in a great location. Definitely recommend. Hope they get the second elevator fixed soon -- long waits to get upstairs is my only complaint. Cool restaurant and bar downstairs and good access to shopping.
