The hotel staff were friendly and very efficient. The rooms were nice and clean, with a comfortable bed. Valet staff was also fairly efficient but the entire valet setup is a mess due to lack of parking and traffic. We had to double park along with two other cars in order to check in. I might have preferred self parking but it was really unclear on how parking worked. Valet was $49 which also seemed pretty expensive. A parking fee of 20% the room rate just sounds crazy to me.

To make this simple we were looking forward to the rooftop dining as advertised from Hotels.com which the hotel front desk knew about and said that's how they get you. Had me thinking if the hotel knew about it then why is nothing being done about it. Will also make a review to this hotel for knowing and not correcting. I want a refund from the false advertisement.

Decided to do a staycation in Sacramento for my birthday. Had heard good things about the Citizen so we booked a couple of rooms. Check in was over two hours late. Waited in the bar and met a couple that waited over 2-1/2 hours! Check out was easy but took over an hour for valet to bring car by. The other couple with us waited over an hour and a half for their car. Room was fine but we’ll never stay there again and can’t recommend it.

Its a nice building but the room was dirty with stains on the wall. The door latch was also detaching from the wall. The washroom fixtures had dust.

The hotel itself was good, large rooms and bathrooms and my room was very clean. However another member of our party had some unidentifiable white flaky substance on their sheets. It is my understanding that it was taken care of promptly by the staff. The breakfast was delicious and was complimentary with a promotion. The one negative was that the neighborhood didn’t feel very safe. We heard loud screaming early in the morning and police sirens in the middle of the night.

There were stains on the desk and bathroom counter. I had to pay for Wi-Fi, not sure why, most hotels offer free Wi-Fi. Across the street from Cesar Chavez park, festival weekend in that park so loud, loud music for hours, the stuff on my nightstand was vibrating. The bed was really comfortable and good location for walking to sights. I think next time I’d pay a little more and stay somewhere else. Staff were all wonderful.

Stayed here several nights before and after flights. First room was a king. Small but comfortable. Bathroom was very small and lighting needs improvement. Street noise from 6th floor. Second night was two queens. Also super comfortable with a much larger bathroom that had windows so the natural light was great, especially for two women putting on makeup. No street noise from 11th floor. We appreciated that. Staff very helpful and professional.

Beautiful historic hotel. I had a corner room, which was quite large. Minimal counter space in the bathroom and not a good place to put an open suitcase. VERY loud on Saturday night. Could hear vehicles and people until about 2 AM. Had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It was good, but very limited options and a bit pricey (like most hotel restaurants). Coffee and water in the lobby during the morning. Free water bottle and glass of Prosecco at check in. Not an area I would want to walk around in. Directly across the street from a park. Many homeless.

Rooms are clean but very small , the bathroom was clean but looked both like the walk to m showers shown on the website and the reason I book the room. Bed and pillows were very comfortable and heating and AC kept the room cool and comfy.

Great location. Classy 100 year old vintage on display. Small but well appointed rooms. Lobby bar/restaurant lively draw with excellent food and drink. Helpful and friendly staff. Fascinating historical art everywhere.

I was placed in a room near/facing the road and had to listen to plaid music, people yelling, vehicles raving their engines all night long. I should have been made aware of this situation prior to booking as I would have booked somewhere else. I got very little rest and the front/street facing rooms of the hotel are not suitable for hotel rooms yet this hotel still sells these rooms to people expecting to get rest. This is simply unethical and unacceptable

The "deluxe king room" we stayed in was disappointing and very tiny, with barely enough room for two people to be using the space simultaneously. It could certainly use a deep cleaning and upgrade. The carpet was well worn; coffee spills on the north wall and baseboard; very dirty windows made looking out gross; and a lumpy bed that needs replacing. There was no chest of drawers; there is slim armoire for hanging items on one side; the second side has one small empty shelf for everything else you might bring (other shelves had the coffee maker, glasses, wine bucket and small very old fridge with pieces falling off it). Keeping our non-hanging items in the open suitcase can be fine, but the room was so small the suitcase because an obstacle. The service is minimal: nobody offers to help with bags even though there were three or four young folks hanging around the front. When we arrived, nobody came to our car; I walked to the valet station and I asked one for help with our luggage and the valet brought me a cart and then left. When I called for help upon departure, I was told that on the ground floor I might find a cart, which I did. The reception staff were nice. Like most downtown areas these days, the area around the Citizen Hotel is quite sad and dirty.

Check in was a smooth process & front desk agent was so helpful! She went above and beyond to help set me up with a nice room, accommodated my request to look up my Marriott rewards # and granted a late check out since I was running a 5k race in the morning. That extra hour was greatly appreciated and one of the main reasons why I prefer Marriott properties. I love staying at Citizen and look forward to future trips. Thank you!

Our first room smelled of must and old smoke so we asked to be moved. The second room we were moved to the air did not work. Once we settled into the third room noticed how unclean the bathroom was. We wasted about an hour being switched between rooms and were never offered anything for the inconveniences of it all. I also had to run down stairs each time because they never picked up the phone

We loved the decor, valet and desk service were so sweet. We were excited about dining and the bar however we went to the bar and were initially acknowldged, then the menu was removed from in front of us. Nobody ever offered to take our drink order and it felt like staff were purposely not acknowledging us even though we sat directly at the bar with several staff walking past us. I am not sure if we were underdressed or what the reasoning was. We went downstairs to the bar at 11:15 since we were told it was open until midnight. We ended up leaving and checked out early the next morning since we no longer wanted to have brunch at the hotel. This was a truly embarrassing experience.

We were excited about dining and the bar however we went to the bar and were initially acknowldged, then the menu was removed from in front of us. Nobody ever offered to take our drink order and it felt like staff were purposely not acknowledging us even though we sat directly at the bar with several staff walking past us. I am not sure if we were underdressed or what the reasoning was. We went downstairs to the bar at 11:15 since we were told it was open until midnight. We ended up leaving and checked out early the next morning since we no longer wanted to have brunch at the hotel. This was a truly embarrassing experience.

My fiancé and I had a staycation here at The Citizen. The staff at the front desk was not friendly when checking in and we did not feel like valued guests. Food at the Grange restaurant was okay. Valet took 20 minutes to bring our car around after checking out. I would not recommend this hotel.

I am incredibly disappointed with my stay here. The room was just fine, front desk staff was pleasant… but my rental car was significantly damaged by the valet, and of course they didn’t say a word about it. I expected a more ethical response from an establishment of this caliber, especially for a service I paid a reasonable amount for. Very frustrating.

We had a great time staying at the Citizens. Everyone employed was so friendly. We caught Music in the Park and Sac Pride while being out there for a conference. Our room was bigger than expected. The food was so really good, especially their breakfast. I wish we had more time to explore their book of cases in the lobby wow.

Decided to do a staycation in Sacramento for my birthday. Had heard good things about the Citizen so we booked a couple of rooms. Check in was over two hours late. Waited in the bar and met a couple that waited over 2-1/2 hours! Check out was easy but took over an hour for valet to bring car by. The other couple with us waited over an hour and a half for their car. Room was fine but we’ll never stay there again and can’t recommend it.

Disappointing, under construction, location is not very good, lots of retail closed, park across the street is loaded with homeless most under the influence of substance. Area does not seem safe. Curtains badly stained, toilet had an issue...I fixed. Noisy location, restaurant however was very good! Staff was good as well. Hotel is a mixed bag...nice place with some minor maintenance issues. Location is the main issue and room rates should not be this high consider that location.

The property is downtown Sac with a lot of homeless people around the neighborhood. I traveled alone (female) I didn’t feel comfortable walking in the neighborhood alone. The hotel is very historic with rich history.

We love staying at the Citizen Hotel, such a convenient location for shows at the theatre, Golden 1, and more. Plenty of dining options within walking distance along with bars. Rooms are clean, beds are comfortable.

The restaurant inside the hotel is called The Grange, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this restaurant. Brunch, Dinner and cocktail options were excellent. They do a very good job at creating a warm atmosphere inside the restaurant and throughout the hotel. Staff were exceptionally professional and polite. This is one of the rare occasions when things are notably good at all levels, so much so that it would be remiss of me to not give credit for the vision being pursued and executed by management.

Everything is awesome! I’m just tired of the new fad where people don’t have mufflers on their vehicles these days to be a nuisance. The Grange had one of the best New York strips I’ve had in a while. The bread that they get daily from Oakland is awesome! The gelato was really good. I really loved the style of the hotel and the ambience.

Beautiful historic hotel. I had a corner room, which was quite large. Minimal counter space in the bathroom and not a good place to put an open suitcase. VERY loud on Saturday night. Could hear vehicles and people until about 2 AM. Had breakfast at the hotel restaurant. It was good, but very limited options and a bit pricey (like most hotel restaurants). Coffee and water in the lobby during the morning. Free water bottle and glass of Prosecco at check in. Not an area I would want to walk around in. Directly across the street from a park. Many homeless.

Beautiful historic hotel in Downtown Sacramento. The employees were polite and helpful although there was a significant delay (we waited about 45 minutes) to get our car from the valet service. They seemed to be understaffed. The Keurig coffeemaker in the room didn’t work. There was a musty smell to the room although the beds were very comfortable and the shower was lovely. The breakfast at The Grange was excellent.

Ordered room service with about an hour to spare. They said it would be 30-40 mins. About an hour and a half later, I went down to the front desk. They couldn’t get ahold of the kitchen. The order was refunded and anything I grabbed from the snack bar was compensated and I was granted a late checkout. It was a late order but they said it was good. Kudos to the staff for providing what they could.

Everything was great. The only issue was we had 4 people in our party, and they only had 2 bath towels in the room, We had to go ask for more. That was the only issue if you can even call it that.

It was a little disappointing. Staff was great. We were on the 8th floor. They had a wedding party on 7th floor. Loud music, loud crowd. Drunk party members slamming doors and yelling (obviously they were having fun) but it was hard to avoid the noise
