Oddfellows Chester Hotel & Apartments

We both enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is in a perfect location to explore this beautiful city. Parking is in a nearby multistorey. The décor is very quirky and the glass door in our room that is shared between the shower / bathroom and toilet takes some getting used too! The breakfast was continental with a large range of pastries, cereals, meats fruits and breads. We would certainly visit again our only criticism was on our final night we were disturbed by 4 middle aged drunken women who insisted in shouting screaming and running up and down the corridor at 1am. A difficult situation which we felt wasn't dealt with at all either at the time or in the morning.

Beautiful property with a secret garden perfect for romantic evenings. And Air Conditioning in the newer, but still quirky building at the back of the garden.

Very spacious apartment, perfect central location for shopping and eating out. Parking actually at the apartment which is very convenient! Just a few small maintenance jobs required to give it a 5* rating.

Stayed for 2 nights, the hotel is great, fun and quirky. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and a great size. The hotel is in a great location, right in the heart of action, parking is in the near by Pepper Street car park, the hotel gives you 50% off so not bad at all. Would definitely recommend

This was a really lovely stay. We would come back here in a heartbeat if we were in the area again. The room was emaculate and really well decorated, the shower was phenomenal, so much so that I had an extra one in the morning before leaving. The bar is quiet and decedant with a lovely garden area for a nice drink in the sun. There are a lot of stairs some of which are quite old and there is no lift so if you have mobility issues maybe bear this in mind but don't let it put you off. The reception staff were also happy to keep our child's pushchair for us in the main lobby to avoid lugging it up the stairs which was greatly appreciated. We only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer, lovely hotel with friendly staff.

We stayed in apartment 5 which is separate to the hotel but only a few minutes walk away. We were able to park outside the apartment in our own space (you need to turn into the apartment and go under the arch to find it) and on checkout they let us stay parked there until 3pm which gave us an extra 3 hrs to explore Chester. The apartment itself was much bigger than expected and had everything we needed for our mini break with our teenage sons. We had the option to have a roll out bed added to the apartment too which we did as our sons are far too big to share a bed these days. This could easily have been moved to the spacious living room if anyone wanted to book somewhere with three separate sleeping areas. The apartment has enough bathrooms to keep everyone happy, although the shower in the bathroom that also has a bath was out of order (this didn't affect us as there is another shower in a different bathroom and our boys were very excited to have an actual bath instead!) We didn't really go back tot eh hotel once wed collected our keys but it looked really cool and quirky when we did pop in. There was an option to add on breakfast on the day so no pressure to decide wether to add it to the booking (we didn't eat there as my husband headed out early into the city instead to pick up our specific breakfast orders!) Would definitely recommend booking for a stay in Chester, the apartment could easily fit more people if needed.

Booked this hotel for my friends and I purely for a place to sleep after a day out so the price we paid (£120 total) was very reasonable for Chester. My party comprised 4 adults and we were allocated a 2 bedroom apartment at the hotel's annex. The apartment was more than suitable for our needs but would be a great place to use for a multi-night stay. There was even a car park spot at the annex which we didn't use.

The apartment was centrally located and very spacious with parking in the courtyard. The downside was the kitchen was not well equipped and one of the showers was out of order.

Comfortable reasonable size room. Bar, and internal outdoor seating area nice. A little music noise from bar could be heard in room, but nothing too loud.

First the good. The apartment we stayed in was massive. So much room, too much really for two people. Lovely and warm too. Parking a bonus. Now the bad. Tired apartment in need of tlc. Lacking the va va vroom of the hotel. Cracked sinks and toilet seat, no curtains and broken blinds, one shower ‘out of action’, mould and cobwebs in bathroom, cup rings on bedside table. Cleaning poor: Toothpaste splatter on walls, food debris in kitchen sink, ceramic hob had burnt on ring marks. Scourer under sink used and damp and fridge needed a wipe. If it had a little more attention to detail it would be a great space. So quiet at night and easy walk into town. Had ev charging which wasn’t mentioned or I’d have brought my ev!

Radiator in room dangerously scolding hot would burn a child’s skin badly Toilet was dirty with a human stool in the toilet left Not cleaned 2 people behind bar with full of people waiting as the lounges are full of events Busy showing off making cocktails meaning people wanting easy prepared drinks (beer) queuing for ages

Beautiful hotel, spotlessly clean, modern but quirky They upgraded our room for free, we also got a complimentary bottle of wine Huge round bed was amazing & very comfortable, will certainly stay again Highly recommend

Stayed in appointment 1 and it was spotless ,spacious & very homely with everything we needed - only regret was we should of booked for longer - tried adding another night but was fully booked, will definitely stay there again in the future, if i had to find 1 commitment i would recommend mold & mildew remover in the shower as very mouldy other than that it’s 99 from us

Location was perfect, lovely area. All staff we came across were very polite and chatty. Small niggles such as loose toilet seat and loose tap. Unclean in areas, where the shower cubicle meets the carpet there were stains, most likely from water. Mould in shower cubicle. This wasn’t enough for us to be unhappy overall but did feel it didn’t quite live up to what we were expecting.

Staff were lovely. The room was lovely though seemed a little worn/tired. Certain parts of the room had not been cleaned properly (sink, used teaspoons left and built up dust in places) coffee machine did not work

The hotel & room was very clean. large bar and out door area’s. The hotel has a theme based on Alice in wonderland and it was very well decorated. The room was very large with a twin bath. All the staff were pleasant and helpful.

The location was great with free parking. We stayed in the two bed apartment and the condition was poor. Lots of mould around the bath, no fans in the bathroom so paint peeling off the walls due to the steam. The toilet flush didn’t work fully and the light above the bathroom mirror didn’t work so was very dark in there. The shower door was also broken and the water took ages to drain away. The windows in the apartment are also bolted shut for some reason. So no way of getting any fresh air into the apartment and no air con. Cups and glasses in the cupboards also filthy, bin in the kitchen all dinted and dirty. Felt like tatty student digs.

This was our second stay at the hotel. We love the location and the staff are always very friendly. We didn't try the food this time but had no complaints about the breakfast last time. Our only disappointment was the cleanliness. Our room had a bath in the bedroom. We put a floor mat down to stop any wet foot prints. When we lifted the floor mat up after it was filthy. Also standing in the wet room the same happened. Perhaps a good scrub and mop is required. Our room also had a row of electrical sockets where the fridge and kettle plug in which we couldn't use as the sockets were too close to the work surface and the leads on our appliances were not flexible enough to bend to allow us to plug appliances in. We feel we are disappointed due to having such a great stay last time. The hotel remains good value for money

Comfortably stay with good quiet air on. There were a couple of items in need of repair in the bathroom which is a shame… the shaving mirror had been broken off of its extendable arm and the plug did not work on the hand basin. The room had 2 bath tubs but not enough hot water to fill them. Comfy bed though and nice and clean

Nice location, quirky hotel, great beverage staff during the day and evening….but Noisy outside bar until late area near rooms, hotel room doors sounded like they were being slammed close all evening then again 1st thing. Bed was really soft so not the best nights sleep. Very inexperienced (and not enough) staff at breakfast. Buffet breakfast would suit the hotel better if they can’t afford more staff.

It was an overall fine stay but not worrh the £ we paid for the room. Location was great - the circular bed in the room wasnt v comfy and several of the lights in our room weren't working. The bathroom also had a bad smell we couldn't get rid of - not sure if it was coming from the water or the pipes. Not really their fault but on a Saturday night in July the hotel was full of hen parties and we were woken a lot by noisy guests throughout the night! Staff were nice but we wouldn't stay again.

The toilet did not a door all open plan in room, not given any choice not expected

Emailed hotel before we set off to ask about parking situation was told nearest one was about 5min walk away so parked there and then walked with baby and luggage to drop our bags as knew check in wasn’t till 3… didn’t realise there was no step free access so climbed stairs with everything to find out we had free parking with our appt, 5 min walk away so had to go back to take everything back down stairs and to the car to pay for parking we’d had, take luggage and car to appt! When we checked in later at 3/4 ish with baby ready to be fed, bathed and put to bed the WiFi was not working so we could not connect monitor etc and hotel didn’t seem to be bothered when we phoned to tell them! Spacious apartment with bathroom on each bedroom but all looked dated and didn’t feel particularly clean maybe as lighting so dull cleaners could not see in the winter months when not much daylight Asked for refund as didn’t feel the facilities were up to scratch but was refused as said should have complained at the time… which I thought we did when we phoned?

I booked this as a surprise birthday stay for my wife who had previously been here some years ago and said it was lovely and quirky! Unfortunately for us, our stay coincided with Chester Races weekend! Subsequently, the hotel was very busy and packed! It wasn’t even possible to sit in the bar as there were ‘reserved’ signs virtually everywhere! The room itself (room 19) was very small with the tiniest of ‘wardrobes’ which was essentially a storage cupboard with THREE coat hangars! We had to remove the ironing board and cooling fan just to get a shirt and jacket inside! There was no mini-bar but there was a fridge which was supposed to be attached to a cupboard door by a strap which had long since broken! This was evident by the fact that the liner of the fridge door had a gaping gash in the front where previous guests had clearly used (and made worse) to prise the door open during previous stays. There is not a chance whatsoever that this could not have been known about! Housekeeping, I’m sure will have reported this - it looked awful and shabby. We came back to Oddfellows later that evening after our meal in a nearby restaurant to find a private party in full-swing! And as our room was adjacent to this, It was near impossible to get any sleep until this had finished in the early hours. And to add insult to injury, a cost of just shy of £300 (no doubt inflated by the Race Meeting) represented extremely poor value for money. Not happy.

Lovely shower. Toilet in the room was in a very small closet with no privacy. More like a cubby hole. Strange layout when there was room within the bathroom area for the toilet. Comfy bed though

As it was so hot outside, no air condition and the bedroom window was stuck shut

Great location , but not so keen on the attic bedrooms , good job we were not a tall couple to get in and out of toilet room and the sink is at other end of bedroom and near the nice dbl shower at the back of bedroom which is open plan !The hotel is a venue as well , the first night the music stopped at ten but second night it was 12.30 am and very loud , so something to think about

Positives 1st: The hotel is in a great location A quirky, nicely presented hotel with the public areas having a trendy vibe, despie the period setting... birthday treat & a desert with greeting was in room. Negatives - steep flight of stairs to the reception so definately not one to consider if you have mobility difficultues... reception staff pleasant, but we were given very little basic info, wifi code not provided anywhere & at no point were we told the hotel doors would be locked at 10pm (stood like fools knocking on the door & ringing bell to be let back in, it was a cold night & 10pm is hardly late - felt like we had disturbed the overworked night receptionist who had been elsewhere in the building!) The room itself on 1st glance was pleasant, but on closer indpection it was in need of attention. Shower cubicle was next to bed and glass so you could see other half showering, using loo etc from the bedroom... not problem, we are married, however, there are large, tongue in cheek signs in the bathroom insisting you shut the door to the shower as they would shampoo the carpet, so uou didnt need to... this would have been funny had the glass shower cubicle not leaked from every seal, meaning the carpet in the bedroom was rotten and looked disgusting. The bed itself was super, super soft, let fown im afraid by dome very questionable stains on the high quality velvet throw pillows..plowsmade staff aware. Sunday night so room cheaper than usual but still expected better

So a nice boutique hotel, very comfortable bed. Shower door leaked water a bit. No lift as listed building, think maybe they should make that clearer as some older buildings do have a lift. My partner has a disability and there were a lot of stairs. Outside area was nice, but they didn’t put lights on at night. One staff member who worked on the bar ignored me and served the people behind me purely because she thought I may want a cocktail as I had looked at the menu. She was mixing one when I got there and didn’t look very happy about it. When someone else served me I did ask for a cocktail and did comment on the service. She asked the same woman to make it and she answered “ I’ll try”, I told her not to bother and ordered something else. Other than that the other staff were all good.

I’m in a wheelchair and managed to see all of the sites. I wanted in Chester from the train station and across the river to the beautiful churches and walls. Don’t miss the wonderful clock. It was still the staff and managers that made my visit such a pleasant one.

My booking was cancelled by the hotel at 7-55pm the night before I was supposed to check in for a wedding reception at the hotel.

Had a great stay. We stayed in the Odd fellows apartments, number 3.The rooms are very large. Open plan lounge, dinning and kitchen. Both bedrooms are ensuite one with a bath with shower over and the other with a modern shower cubicle. All kitchen essentials are there, with a utility room with freezer, washing machine, iron and ironing board. The kitchen had a coffee machine, kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge, oven and hob. Dining table and 4 chairs. The lounge had a sofa and 2 chairs, a large TV with Netflix available. Each of the 5 apartments have their own parking space. The apartments are a 5 minute walk to the centre and the river is a stones throw away. We had dinner at the hotel on Thursday evening it was fabulous!!!! Hotel staff we're very friendly and helpful 😄

Upon arrival the staff couldn’t have been more welcoming. Having previously stayed at this hotel we knew to expect a lovely stay, yet it was even better than before. Great proximity to restaurants and shopping.

Breakfast was terrible. The food was good but the service was terrible.

There seemed to have been a few changes since our stay earlier this year. Breakfast was disappointing, no alternative to continental, which wasn’t as fresh aa expected. No visible presence of a staff member to even ask. Coffee/tea basic. The hotel itself was as clean and as comfortable as usual but just felt a little more impersonal than usual. Located well though for everything Chester

Booked dinner bed and breakfast which turned out to be a burger for evening meal and European style cold buffet breakfast. Wine glass was dirty at the evening meal. Smoked salmon had disappeared and was not topped up at breakfast and we had to request some more bread. On the flip side the bar is amazing and well worth a visit . Room was ok Bathroom was great apart from a smell of a blocked drain wafting through every once in a while . overall underwhelmed.

Amazing hotel! Staff were lovely and welcoming. Especially Dan, who served us in the restaurant in the evening. Nothing was too much trouble! The room was a duplex room which was just amazing! The only negative was the service at breakfast was very slow, and we waited a good 10mins before anyone came to our table, and had to ask for a tea and coffee, which came with off milk. However, this is our only complaint, and did not spoil our stay whatsoever. This hotel is a hidden little gem, great atmosphere, quirky, and central location.

Oddfellows is a wonderful hotel. It has a quirky old school atmosphere with all modern conveniences. The reception and bar area is awesome. The bar staff are friendly and well adept at whipping up a good cocktail. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. The hotel is right in the middle of the great town of Chester with tons of shops and restaurants nearby

Really enjoyed the stay. Modern but traditional hotel. Really comfortable. Huge room. Not a fan of the glass door bathroom but everything else was great. Also confusing about what breakfast you get if you include in the booking as the price doesn't match the menu. Location is perfect.

Excellent hotel. Rooms are great. Everything is clean. No complaints. The only issue we had was that we weren’t aware when booking the dinner, bed and breakfast was the the dinner was only for the festive menu and not the general menu. This didn’t spoil our break but it would have been useful to be aware of this at the time of booking. Other than that it was a good experience.
