Great Hallingbury Manor & Lodges London Stansted

The staff were rude and the most unhelpful I’ve come across. The car park has no lighting and is a far away from the entrance down a pathway with steps. The same in the corridor in hotel no lights look like a money saving scheme.

Hotel okay for the money BUT. Check car parking signs. I was told by reception that my car was okay and she took registration number. I have Received a £100 car parking fine for the 6 hrs my car was in car park. Spoke to car parking people said I was told wrong info. Very unhappy. So beware of the parking.

Lovely little place, very cosy. The aeroplanes are so loud that it was difficult to sleep and relax. Nice place for a walk, food is great. Register the car park, but received parking fine. Hotel helped to cancel it, hope it will be dealt with, as the threats from parking company are still coming

Location is ideal for Stansted. It’s directly under the flight path for planes landing & taking off so you’re a light sleeper, I would avoid. We were aware of this prior so had no surprises. Despite putting a ticket on the car provided by the hotel, we have ended up with a parking ticket!! So now we are contesting that. Seems like a problem that others have experienced also. The rooms were quite outdated and in need of an upgrade but this was potentially reflected in the price. The rooms weren’t very clean, floor dirty + bathroom. As we were only staying for a short time because of our flight, it didn’t bother us that much. Overall, it was an average stay but we wouldn’t stay again.

They billed me £100 as a parking despite giving me a free car parking ticket that I displayed on my dashboard all night

I arrived at the hotel at around 8 pm after a very long drive. I parked in the Hotel car park which was round the back of the hotel and due to the works, there was no entrance from the back which required having to walk all the way around the property to the front with luggage and poorly lit conditions. During check-in, I was asked my registration plate and then told to go and put a parking ticket in the window of the car, which was the last thing I wanted to do as I was really tired. I couldn’t understand the reasoning for this if they asked my registration plate and had logged it on their system. It seems completely unnecessary and frustrating. I was given a room on the second floor, it was a single room. It was perfectly adequate, however, it was like a sauna when I entered the room. I endeavoured to turn off the radiator but that was broken and I was unable to leave the window open due to the amount of aircraft like directly overhead. I went down to the reception to explain that the radiator control was broken and was told that I would have to move room. This was again rather frustrating as I had unpacked. I was given a room on the ground floor I asked if it was possible to have a room on the first floor where I was staying but told that there were no single rooms available. It was hardly a busy time of year and I would’ve thought due to the inconvenience caused they could’ve provided me with a double room to make my life easier rather than having to carry all the luggage

It is being refurbished and there is no indication of this when I booked it on Hotels.com. There was no bar, they offered drinks from a fridge that had to paid for there and then not your room to paid for at the end. No food including breakfast. The rooms needed upgrading as they were in poor condition. No service what so ever. All in all a bad experience.

The GHMH was hugely disappointing. I arrived at the hotel to find the bar & restaurant closed - this was due to a renovation, but this was not communicated until I arrived and paid. I was accommodated in Room 50 which is located across the road in the lodgings. To cross to the accommodation involves crossing a poorly light road which has the potential for a fatal road accident. The rooms are said to have WiFi, but this was not available throughout the stay. After repeated visits to reception to enquire if this would be resolved I resigned myself to the fact that they didn’t care. Over the 3 nights the room was not serviced (Clean towels etc) or the tea tray replenished. Looks nice in pictures… but avoid.

Beautiful external areas (garden) very nice restaurant. They have a damp issue so strong smell of damp in the corridors & my room. Damp on walls in bathroom. Obvs noise from planes, but it's under the flight path for Stansted so that was no surprise and they mention the noise in emails.

Booked a 2 night stay here to accomodate myself and workforce whilst doing a job nearby. Check in was great but once we enetered our rooms it was clear the bed and rooms were cold and damp! To add to this, it was then we found there was no hot water to have showers, all 5 men then returned to reception to request a room change, We were told that there were no more rooms available with hot water. after having a long day at work we decided it would be easier to brave a cold shower which was horrible, but hoped that this would be addressed the following day. After tossing and turning all night with hardly any sleep because of the lack of heating and damp bedding. The following day was again a long day on site and after returning to the hotel around 7pm we were then further dissapointed as the problems had not been rectified in our rooms. they did manage to move 3 of the guys but were told they would have to share rooms, but we had paid for 5 rooms. This again was very dissapointing but a couple of the lads agreed whilst the rest of us ahd to again take cold showers and sleep in our clothes. The hotel in general is stunning and i have stayed here previously, but it seems the extra rooms they are supplying over in a different building were the problem. We were offered no refund for the rooms we did not receive nor any apology for the problems we were encountering. The management here really need to get a grip. Hotels.com have since tried to help but have been ignored also! FUMING!

Directly under the flight path so very noisy. Our so called ‘deluxe’ room opened on to a road. Defensive manager when I explained the floor of the room hadn’t been cleaned. Other than that adequate if you need a convenient overnight stay.

The room I had very a bit shabby , damp on the bathroom wall , spiders webb in the bedside lamp which also didn't work. Very noisy room from road traffic right next to my room and aircraft flying very low overhead. But I suppose you get what you pay for as the room was one of the cheapest in the area .

Hotel was excellent value. Staff friendly, clean room convenient parking. The only tiny thing, which didn’t really bother me but is typical of the lack of attention to detail that lets down British hospitality, was that the toilet seat was slightly broken. Really easy to fix, would just take the cleaner to notify maintenance. But, as I say, it really wasn’t a problem and our stay was very good.

Room was just as advertised and had everything we needed - except hair conditioner. Easy and helpful check-in staff. Clean. The collection of buildings were absolutely stunningly cute and well-maintained, especially for the age, and nice explorable grounds. Not much open in the area or walkable past evening time. Quick cab ride to Stanstead. Beds a bit on the short size, rooms could use fans in the summer. Opening the windows was an option but we were on the road side which was surprisingly noisy for most of the night, in addition to very loud planes overhead nearly every 5 minutes well past 11 pm. Nice place, but bring ear plugs or a white noise machine.

The room is right next to a busy road, it’s so close you can see the road from the window. Also lack of privacy as the main door to the rooms is right next to the only window in the room.

Beware dangerously hot shower - scalded me!! (Room 53 - left a note for management but had to leave for my flight) Good: Convenient location for airport. Clean room. Super comfy bed. Free parking. Welcoming staff. Not so good: WiFi did not work. Shower is rain style and no shower cap so not ideal if you don't want wet hair (would be better with a handheld shower also). TV needs re-tuneing Exceptionally bad: Shower takes 10 mins to come through warm. After this the water is DANGEROUSLY HOT on what is supposed to be the coolest setting. The thermostat dial is plumbed in wrong so when you turn to cold this unleashed scalding hot water (no kidding it felt like a kettle) onto me, being a rain shower this is full body coverage, so I had to jump out the shower so quickly to prevent serious injury. Yes there is a 'cation very hot water' sticker but this underestimates the temperature, as no shower should be uncomfortably hot as the lowest temperature. If you use the shower please, please be careful!!!!!

This hotel is just lovely. Beautifully decorated and the grounds are gorgeous. The bed was so comfy. Our bedroom and bathroom were huge and felt luxurious. Food in the restaurant was delicious for both dinner and breakfast. My only small gripe was that we did not have any openable windows in our room so it would have been nice to have aircon or at least a fan as it got a bit warm and it wasn't even that warm outside

Room was so hot as the radiators were left on and there's no windows to open. I don't understand why they didn't have the heating switched off in the middle of summer.

Lovely location and looks beautiful, Last time stayed in one of the rooms in the out building and was perfect. Don’t think a room in the house is an upgrade. Signal on tv awful had to turn it off On a cold night was boiling hot and could not amend. The rooms inside could do with being brought up to the standard of the outbuilding rooms

I was greatly impressed by how helpful, professional and friendly the reception staff were, especially William. Could not be better.

The welcome was great, Poppy upgraded us to a newly renovated room, which was a lovely gesture and the room was great

I had an amazing stay however it is out in the rural area so make sure you set it up with the front desk to order taxis uber is a hit and miss.. William at the front desk was absolutely amazing everybody was really great and welcoming.

Excellent overnight stay, room had all that we required. Staff were 100% attentive and very polite. Food was excellent too. Would recommend to others.

Staff were extremely helpful

Check in took more than 15 minutes, only 1 person working reception. I get they are undergoing refurbishment, and there are no catering facilities, but I think they could still off plates and cutlery so that you can get a takeaway in your room. Very expensive for the facilities offered.

Very much under the Stansted flight path to the extent they supply earplugs but that means convenient for early flights. Also well geared towards weddings with beautiful manor and grounds

Great hotel for overnight stay before very early flight next morning. Will definitely use again.

The hotel is lovely. However, Hotels.com have it filtering under swimming pool, it has two ponds, no swimming, whcih was a great shame. It is also under the flight path to Stanstead so quite noisy with both flights and people vacating early to catch their flights. However, the room was comfortable but as I staid over the hottest days, a fan in the wardrobe that could be used would have been a real bonus. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent and I would recommend that.

Not good! Parking too far from the room. Room across the road! The key didn’t work 3 times. No breakfast and no where to have dinner.

Property and staff were lovely. There was no restaurant or bar as they were being renovated but think this was reflected in the cheap price. Overriding was the constant very loud aircraft noise, during the evening and also the night time too. The hotel is right under the flight path.

A smart hotel, with pleasant surroundings. Food in the restaurant was excellent, and very reasonably priced. The planes to and and from Stansted were regular, but we were aware of this before our stay, and it didn’t cause us any issues.

I booked a single room which was basic but had everything I needed for a quick stopover. The hotel is on the flight path so expect to hear the planes! The hotel is set in beautiful grounds with outside seating . Food was good, restaurant staff very friendly. Just a tip (and nothing to do with the hotel) if you book a taxi at the airport from the only taxi supplier to the hotel and back , it’s going to cost best part of £50!
