Was very disappointed there was not a lounge or a restaurant actually in the hotel as advertised. That was the whole reason we booked there. We did however find an excellent bar and grill across the street. I guess it was more the disappointment of not having the ambiance of the history of the hotel with the old speakeasy

This was such a nice place to stay in the center of the state parks. The staff was helpful and the new restaurant was delicious, especially the smash burger. Beds were comfortable.

I love what the owners are doing with this place. A grand old building, I found it to be comfortable, quiet, and charming. That said, I was disappointed that the hotel has neither restaurant nor bar as listed on Expedia (or, if they exist, they weren't open the night I was there). And this is a small thing but, in a classy joint like this, it would have been nice to see the desk staff dressed in something more upscale than a sweatshirt. If you're trying to recreate a classic vibe, little things like that matter.

Lovely historic property on a street with small shops and businesses. Pleasant public rooms Bed was very comfortable and room facing Main Street was quiet. Secure parking behind the hotel. Would be happy to stay here again. The breakfast bar was what you’d find at a chain hotel, so we ended up walking to a cute cafe down the street for a proper breakfast. Should be noted that there are 5-7 steps to reach the front desk, where the elevator starts.

This is a magnificent hotel. By not providing amenities like in-room coffee and ice machines, the General Francis is able to make staying in this stunning turn of the century hotel affordable for the common person. I will return at the first opportunity.

This is a beautiful old hotel, but it must be stated that this hotel is not handicap friendly hotel. If you have mobility issues i would not recommend staying here. The hotel sits on a street on an incline, but what's worse are the steps you're forced to climb to check in and get to your room. You literally have to lug your luggage up a flight of stairs. It was impossible for me. The front desk person serves as check in and bell hop. The beds and continental breakfast were underwhelming considering the room cost and high ratings. I personally would never stay here again.

We have stayed at you Hotel previously and enjoyed it this time just as much as our last visit. The only disappointing factor was not having a restaurants on the premises. We loved the Mexican restaurant that used to be there. We hope the new restaurant will be properly staffed and functioning soon.

Room was smaller but nice. Bathroom was updated and had nice amenities and spacious in comparison to room size. The room was super clean and so was the bathroom. Parking is limited on site and I had to park in the public free parking garage about a half block away. Several stairs, especially from parking lot to side door to elevator. Staff was very nice and helpful but she didn't know if the room had a USB-C charging port or just a USB normal. In fact, she told me there was not a USB-C port in the charger under the lamp. Luckily I went upstairs to double check before trekking to the Walmart and the charging station does have a USB-C port plus 2 regular USBs. Saved me a trip to Walmart a few miles away about 10pm. I just thought at this high quality of property that the front desk staff would be aware of the amenities offered in the rooms. There is a restaurant onsite with a bar. If you are in the area for work or travel I think this is the nicest place within several interstate exits, but it is a little pricey.

The hotel has great architecture and the staff is super friendly. It’s clean overall, but my main issue is that the facilities are pretty outdated. I stayed in a room right by the elevator that’s separated by a wooden wall, and it was really noisy. The air conditioner wasn’t working either; I couldn’t control the temperature from the panel in my room and had to ask the front desk to adjust it. Even after they made changes, the temperature still didn’t budge.

Overall, everything was wonderful. The room could use a little more light (only 1 lamp and no ceiling light) but other than that it was really nice. Very clean, etc. Would definitely stay here again. The food at the restaurant was not as good as expected and very slow. We realized that it was a show night so we got there extra early. Once we were served, the waitress never came back. We had to track her down for a drink refill and then again for the bill. We realized that it had gotten crowded, however we should not have been forgotten.

Attendee an event that ran late. Nowhere in communication did it say you’d lose your room if you didn’t check in by a certain time. Luckily, we called ahead to notify them and our reservation was flagged, but then was told if we’d arrived 10 minutes later, our room would have been given away. Not sure who was looking for a room at 2 am that they would have given ours away. But it would have been nice to have known that.

The staff was super helpful and patient and kind. The hotel is beautiful and interesting and enjoyed staying in Downtown Marion where I met the proprietress of the Downtown Re-Sale Boutique and spent a lovely couple of hours visiting with her.

Avoid this hotel! It is managed by someone who lacks basic customer management skills. I booked two rooms to attend an event next door. The event was abruptly canceled with little warning and I called to cancel the rooms as quickly as possible. I was ONE HOUR past the deadline and was refused any type of refund. The outrageous part was that I was charged a third time and while I was eventually refunded that one charge, it was with obvious reluctance and ill grace. I travel frequently and am astonished that anyone would run a customer focused business this way. I made every attempt to resolve this with the manager and the owner, even involving the manager of the theater next door, before posting.

Very helpful and friendly staff. Check in was easy, but we were initally assigned and given key to a room that had not been made up (used towles on bathroom floor and unmade bed). Hotel staff immediately gave us a diff room (1st was 2 beds, 2nd was queen and saved us $150). The new room was spotless, comfy bed and pillows, spacious. Hotel ataff gave recommendations for dinner and checked with us when we returned. Selection of tea packets in front lobby.. one night, late, i retrieved a packet andnfilled cup with water (which had become cold) and staff immediately asked if they could make me hot water.

Room was smaller but nice. Bathroom was updated and had nice amenities and spacious in comparison to room size. The room was super clean and so was the bathroom. Parking is limited on site and I had to park in the public free parking garage about a half block away. Several stairs, especially from parking lot to side door to elevator. Staff was very nice and helpful but she didn't know if the room had a USB-C charging port or just a USB normal. In fact, she told me there was not a USB-C port in the charger under the lamp. Luckily I went upstairs to double check before trekking to the Walmart and the charging station does have a USB-C port plus 2 regular USBs. Saved me a trip to Walmart a few miles away about 10pm. I just thought at this high quality of property that the front desk staff would be aware of the amenities offered in the rooms. There is a restaurant onsite with a bar. If you are in the area for work or travel I think this is the nicest place within several interstate exits, but it is a little pricey.

Great location downtown next to Lincoln Theater. Walk to severs restaurants and shops. There’s a large free municipal garage right behind hotel, so it doesn’t matter that their own parking lot is small.

Convenient to the Lincoln Theater. We were able to park and across the theater and food without moving our car. Room was clean and beautiful. Loved the historic feel with all the modern conveniences. Perfect little overnight getaway.

Breakfast was horrible. Jimmy Dean egg sausage croissant. Was just going to eat the egg and sausage to get some protein since no warm breakfast was being served. Microwaved it. But into the sausage and something hard got stuck between my teeth. Pulled it out and it was a piece of plastic. Grossed out so didn’t eat that. Made a waffle and it had a metallic taste. I was going backpacking for the weekend and was really looking for to a nutritious breakfast to start my day. Room was ok but no outlets for electronics to plug into and AC was noisy and blanket was very thin so I was cold and didn’t get much sleep. It definitely is an old hotel. Carpet was very old looking. Thank God I remembered my sandals.

Nice small-town, historic hotel. Very cool room, generously sized subway tile bath, and chocolate mint candies on the nightstand!. Free parking in rear, nice Mexican restaurant in the hotel, and also right on Marion's main drag if you want to explore. My only criticism, and its minor, is that the "free breakfast" options were dismal.

This was such a nice place to stay in the center of the state parks. The staff was helpful and the new restaurant was delicious, especially the smash burger. Beds were comfortable.

The rooms are very nice. The spacious bathrooms have been remodeled but retain the historic period look. We really enjoyed our stay and found Marion to be a nice, walkable town. Dining in the area is so-so. The hotel's breakfast spread could use some spiffing up. They were out of coffee and had very little edible food. Overall a good option for the area.

The room was wonderful, with a queen bed, microwave, fridge, Main St view, and large bathroom. Beautifully appointed room and common areas. Staff were nice, but they didn't give the warm and fuzzies or even present a business approach, so there are opportunities for improvement there, especially considering the cost, the attached restaurant, and the hotel's reputation. The free breakfast left a lot to be desired (a make-your-own wafflemaker, dry cereal x 2 kinds, coffee, bottled juice/milk, bagels separated into ziplock bags, individually prepackaged assorted muffins, yogurt, and gas station style microwaveable biscuits with meat). Parking was good, with the town's garage immediately adjacent. Security was also good, with multiple cameras monitored by the desk clerk and a keycard for entry after dark. We will absolutely come again, but next time we will go to Sur 81 for breakfast 😊.

I love what the owners are doing with this place. A grand old building, I found it to be comfortable, quiet, and charming. That said, I was disappointed that the hotel has neither restaurant nor bar as listed on Expedia (or, if they exist, they weren't open the night I was there). And this is a small thing but, in a classy joint like this, it would have been nice to see the desk staff dressed in something more upscale than a sweatshirt. If you're trying to recreate a classic vibe, little things like that matter.

Beautiful older hotel - well maintained and exceptionally clean. Would highly recommend... just don't expect much for breakfast options (I didn't and that was fine with me). Great launchpoint for Back of the Dragon heading northbound.

Overall, everything was wonderful. The room could use a little more light (only 1 lamp and no ceiling light) but other than that it was really nice. Very clean, etc. Would definitely stay here again. The food at the restaurant was not as good as expected and very slow. We realized that it was a show night so we got there extra early. Once we were served, the waitress never came back. We had to track her down for a drink refill and then again for the bill. We realized that it had gotten crowded, however we should not have been forgotten.

Room was small, but for what I needed, perfect. Some had complained about thin walls or hearing other people, i experienced none of that. Simple breakfast, waffles, cereal and muffins. No hot meals or anything. Fine for me! Overall, was just what I was looking for after a long day of driving the mountains.

Overall stay rated as one as I got ~25-30 bug bites from my feet to my hips and on my shoulder that I recognized after checking out from my one-night stay. I called back to the hotel to inform them and the attendant indicated they would advise management. I haven't heard back from anyone in a week. This is the second time I have stayed at the GFM and both times I have had good experiences with the on-site staff. The bug bites and lack of follow-up turned this stay upside down!
