Benmiller Inn & Spa

We stayed in the River Mill building which housed the pool. That was very convenient. Our room was large and overlooked the river through a large arched window. My biggest peeve with that beautiful window was that it was filthy dirty. The rest of the property was impeccably clean. It was also a little inconvenient that we had to drive back and forth to the restaurant. All in all we had a pleasant fall getaway.

Once a jewel has now become old and tired! I don’t think there have been any recent updates to decor, worn carpet, drab paint, mismatched curtains, faded artwork, and so many more. Plus they need to make changes to make it more current (old, poor quality TV with only regular cable, no USB ports) Beautiful outdoor grounds overlooking the River BUT the windows were SO dirty it was distracting! Pool and spa was also a disappointment: hot tub did not work and was not hot, sauna door was broken, cracked and missing tiles, no lights in pool area…it just was not comfortable to relax in. For the price find a newer more hip place to stay.

The pool was a little chilly but we had a great time

The room was a bit outdated, and the mattress sagged in the middle, but it was clean, very quiet and overall a pleasant experience. It was disappointing to discover the fireplace in our room was an electric one with fake flames. The meal at the Ivey Dining Room was excellent! The pool was a great feature and it was nice that it was open until 11pm. The hot tub wasn’t very hot but the sauna was nice. Overall we would stay again. There are lots of hiking trails nearby and it’s still close enough to a city if you need anything.

This property is unique. It was a textile mill on a river. There are various building all easy walk. Beautiful greenery and our room had a small balcony with two chairs and a view of the river. Lovely. Not accessible, stairs everywhere, albeit only a few at a time, if you stay on the main floor. No elevators. There is close parking at all buildings.

We went to BenMiller for our anniversary, expecting luxury. Wasn't at all what we expected. Rooms are tired and dated, the bed wasn't even great. The pool was cold for an indoor pool and the hot tub was too hot for anyone to go in. Complaint was registered, but nothing done with the hot tub situation. The plus side - the restaurant is excellent. We enjoyed 2 meals and 1 breakfast, all were perfect, exactly what we had expected. Wish I had read the reviews prior to going.

If you’re looking for an adult getaway bemmiller inn is the perfect spot. We stayed one night in October. The river and fall trees were gorgeous. We hiked the Bruce trail for 6k, came back and went for a nice supper. The dinner was really good, would recommend the pork chop with blueberry compote. Suggest they add table cloths which would give the dining room a more formal atmosphere for a romantic supper for couples. After we went to relax in the Hottub and sauna. The pool looked nice, the Hottub really didn’t have strong jets so could use an upgrade. The sauna you need to turn on the heater about 10 min prior. Our room was nice, we had the House overlooking the river with a king bed. Nice comfy bed, clean and good size room with soaker tub. Only criticism is they should try to clean the windows from bug splatter. Breakfast was good, homemade and filling. We didn’t do the spa as the RMT was not available. It’s 10min from Goodrich town, for a nice evening walk and sunset . We would book again.

Most amazing hotel experience! Very unique layout and the grounds/property are stunning. Great to visit any time of year. Highly recommend the spa for a massage- Chrissy (Christine) is INCREDIBLE! The restaurant is OUTSTANDING - 5 stars but extremely affording. The pool is HUGE and the hot tub is kinda off in its own room with skylight type feature. Bed was super comfy and the keurig coffee was good and was nice that instead of just crap whitener powder hotels typically put your room you get the lil non dairy non refrigerated liquid whitener! I promise you will NOT be disappointed :)

Breakfast was excellent and the property grounds are very beautiful. View from the room and small balcony were very pretty. The old restored buildings that house the Inn are quite charming. That said, we had an annoying dripping tap that kept us awake, and the water temperature in the shower wouldn’t stay consistently warm. Instead it fluctuated between hot and cold. The biggest disappointment was the pool area with a spa tub that was just warm without functioning jets, and the sauna was turned off and the restroom needed attention. The pool and hot tub area were much leas enjoyable than our previous visits to this hotel in years past.

The grounds were beautiful,had an awesome view from the balcony but our bathroom had water damage and mould. The carpets were stained in the room and hallways. I had visioned a beautiful room and hotel because of the name and location . The staff was helpful and the restaurant had a great breakfast.

the area was beautiful and the staff were very helpful. The room and facility are very dated and some areas were not clean. Our shower had hairs on walls and tub. The room was in the same building as the pool and had a strong smell of chlorine.

Overall a good stay. Great breakfast and staff were friendly and helpful, room was clean. The interior and exterior of the buildings and the property could use some TLC and regular maintenance. Ice machine was mouldy, windows dirty, hallways musty, pool area needs a good cleaning, chairs on deck covered in bird poop and cobwebs all over the place.

Really needs updating and maintenance. Room is dingy and smells musty.

CLEAN ROOM

Outside grounds are “picturesque”. Inside main building where we stayed was very “tired” and the room was not clean. Wine stains on night tables and floor was unswept. Disappointing. However, the staff were incredible. Positive and very professional. 5 stars goes to the restaurant food and team members!

The small creek running right through the property was very nice. As well as the larger river with a view right from our room. The property is need of a major refresh. The first building/room that we were assigned smelled very strongly of mold and mildew. Just entering the building you experience a strong smell. That should have been my sign of what was to come. There were portable dehumidifiers and fans running in the hallways of the River Mill building. The pool (not warm if heated) is located in this building but the condition of the building and room was very disappointing. We opened the windows to help with the odors in the room and decided to mention it when we went for dinner at the main building. Our expectations were high for a nice dinner based on our review of the menu. The experience again was a disappointment with the food appearing and tasting like it was reheated verses cooked fresh. After dinner we went to the front desk to cancel our breakfast reservation and mention our dissatisfaction with the room. The hostess indicated we should have said something right away about the room and I certainly agreed but I also mentioned that they should not be renting rooms in that condition to a new customer of the resort. They did upgrade us immediately to another room in the other building where the actual spa is located which was definitely a nicer room. In summary the Inn has certainly lost it's lustre of days gone by.

Arrived 7:45pm. On an August Thursday evening. Dining room closed. No room service. Had to ask permission to order a take out order that I returned to purchase 45 min later. Halls musty & hot. Windows filthy outside. Decor tired & could use upgrading. Bed good and staff overall courteous. Not premium.

Lovely and spacious room with a balcony overlooking a quiet river with forest view. So peaceful and relaxing.

We loved our large room. It had a balcony as well. It is neat and clean. A little dated but for $250 a night well worth it. The pool was very clean and accessible across the street. The staff are the stars of this resort. The service is above and beyond. Highly recommend

The area is absolutely beautiful. The hotel is very dated, so just expect that going in. The bed was very comfortable They could do a better job cleaning though. A beautiful view of the river but the windows were extremely dirty and the deck overlooking the River needs some tlc. It was nice to experience the location however we likely won’t stay there again

While this property is clearly intended for romantic weekends away, I suffered multiple bug bites in my overnight stay. There is no cell phone service at this location but the Wi-Fi is good.

The room was an upgrade as they did not have our reservation even though I had a confirmation #. The upgrade meant that we had to climb 2 long flights of stairs with our luggage to the third floor. The fridge and both air conditioners were very noisy. The wallpaper needed to be replaced. The bed was comfortable and the shower was hot which was appreciated. They did not come in to clean for the duration of our stay due to “Covid rules”. I found that to be a bit ridiculous and probably a cost saving measure. Our meals were delicious. We were disappointed to find out that the dining room was closed on Monday and Tuesday. There is not a lot to do in the area. We were surprised to see that restaurants and areas of interest were closed. It’s a quaint place to stay. The grounds were immaculate.

It’s away from the city so that is nice but the air unit in the room wouldn’t shut off so had to put up with that for 2 days. The say other then that was good though.

Room was very clean and very comfortable. Definitely will come back again. Nice little patio overlooking the river.

Our room on second floor had a large window that overlooked the Maitland River. Stunning sunrise. Watched flocks of geese from bed. Loved the large soaker tub w jets in the large bedroom room(w shower). Toilet & sink in seperate room. The indoor pool was beautiful. It had large windows overlooking the river.

The Benmiller is a historic and pleasant Inn to spend a relaxing few days. Our king room was huge!

Staff was great- the natural beauty was amazing. Would highly recommend!

First time at Benmiller Inn. Beautiful property, very friendly staff, clean room. We had a minor issue with our room, staff attended to it very professionally. We will definitely return soon. We had a waterfront room and the view was great.

My husband had a medical emergency while we were there. Staff were extremely helpful with calling an ambulance and reaccomadating our room. We will definitely return in the future

When we first arrived our room had ants and was extremely musty. Horrible view. This whole building needs to be renovated. The one with the pool and spa. We were ready to leave. However the front desk personal changed our room to a more up to date building and it was beautiful. Started a bit rocky but was redeemed and was very enjoyable. Would stay again but in a specific location.

Its a beautiful property, we have been going for the last few years. Property seems to be in disrepair in the last couple of years. Front desk staff are responsive. Experience in jonathons loinge not great. Took a while to find bartender who finally got our drinks but never came back to see how we were doing

Loved the sights & sounds of the Maitland river from our room. Enjoyed a solitary swim in a pool with its view and outside deck. This was our second stay. Autum & Spring. Proximity to Goderich is a plus.

Lots of hiking options.

Nestled close to the prosperous farmlands near western Ontario's Lake Huron shores, this inn has both beauty and history as one of Ontario's many water-driven mills on the meandering Sharpe creek. Great accommodation, accessible amenities incl. pool and spa, and a modestly priced delicious breakfast launched us on our way.

You should know that most restaurants are closed Monday & Tuesday not only at the Benmiller but in Golderich as well. It is a beautiful, quiet and safe location that’s great for a little getaway.

Peaceful and lovely nature all around. Absolutely gorgeous grounds and patios. Only 10 min drive to Gofetich and 15 to the beach

The location is beautiful and in central Huron. Was easy to visit Bayfield, Godrich, Blyth and many local micro breweries. Loved Cow Bell! The facility itself is very dated. Needs paint. Hot tub and showers could be hotter. Rogers service was non existent. That said, the room window gave a spectacular view of the Maitland river. Staff were very kind and thoughtful. If you want luxury, this is not your location. If,however, you are looking for a peaceful retreat in a beautiful location, away from hustle and bustle, this is a solid option. Beware, the dining room is not open Monday or Tuesday.

Excellent hotel, great restaurant

Lovely location but the property is very tired and needs a big update! We were not impressed with the dining options - Sunday breakfast is ONLY the buffet for $32.95 pp… we don’t eat a lot at breakfast but they didn’t offer the choice to order off the menu. We ended up driving to Goderich for breakfast.

This was our second time staying here and it didn’t disappoint. Always a very pleasant and relaxing stay. The food in the restaurant is exceptional! The staff is awesome as well.

Great property and rooms BUT Algae growing in the pool…. Sauna door off its hinges….. spa jets not working Food was only average…. Pork tenderloin overcooked ….. fries warm and not crisp…..ribs were lacking flavour…. Seemed to have been boiled then a bbq sauce added prior to serving Not happy with the meals and mentioned these to our waitress

Did not like the fact that there was no meals being served on the Monday or Tuesday. Would have liked a nice breakfast at the very least.

There were so many things wrong with our stay at Benmiller Inn. The inn is looking pretty shabby and a bit depressing. It was clean in some areas and not in others. For sure our room was less than totally cleaned, and the mattress was old and sank way down on one side. It also creaked through the night. The hot tub was filled with cloudy water that was not hot enough...a pool of bacteria in other words. Finally, we and some other guests were not able to get breakfast because "we did not make reservations." We and the other guests had never been told that you need a reservation for breakfast, and had never encountered this before. We all had to go searching for breakfast in the closest town. All in all, the staff were pleasant but the place is past is prime. We would not stay there again.
