MainStay Suites Williamsburg Historic Area

The place was very dirty. My room looked old and I think people lived in the hotel because some room doors were decorated with wreaths, etc and you could smell food was cooking. The elevator broke and I was on the third floor, so I took the closest stairs to leave and when I got to the bottom the door was locked leading outside. I had to take all my luggage back upstairs and find another stairwell, then it led me outside to the back and complete opposite end from the parking lot. Would not recommend.

Negative stars! This is by far the worst hotel experience I've ever had (coming from a world traveler here).We left 15 minutes after check-in due to health and safety concerns, drove down the road and booked at the Hampton Inn instead. Strange people and filthy hotel. Lobby smelled horribly of marijuana and stale cigarette smoke plus what appeared to be a geriatric "resident" with a cane and dressed in a nightie, hanging out at reception. The staff lady at reception seemed normal for about 2 minutes and asked if we wanted a 1st floor room or something higher, so we asked for something higher. Her tone and body language suddenly changed (horror movie strange!) and she informed us that there was only 1 room left on the 1st floor then gave us a weird smile. We said that was fine (despite the parking lot and hotel being empty). Keycards didnt work. Had to go back and the receptionist tried to fix the card and said that if she couldn't get them to work she would have to put us in a different room. Wait, what?! First you offered us a choice, then back-tracked and said there was only 1 room left, but now suddenly you can move us to another room? It didnt even matter though because she got them working and we got into the filthy room which was filled with stale cigarette smoke, dirty sheets, etc. and the windows looked out into the pool room filled with junk, furniture and an empty pool ( website lied).The people/place is creepy and not at all safe for female travelers.

The hotel was very dirty. Stains all over the place. Refrigerator was stained and dirty. Me towels sheets not clean false advertisement. There was no gym, even though it was advertised. As soon as you walk in, it's smelled like smoke and a non-smoking hotel. The elevator broke down the first night. I went to the front desk and asked for clean sheets.Because mine was soiled they said they didn't have any they we're all dirty

First room, shower head shot off when turned water on and sprayed water everything. Second room, toothpaste caps in sink drain, window view into hallway, mismatched poor condition furniture, loud fridge, broken privacy lock bar, closed workout room, key card stopped working and had to be reinitiated.

Room was poorly cleaned, refrigerator was dirty, no breakfast facilities as advertised, no exercise room or pool as advertised. Elevator broke and had to walk to otherside of hotel to get upstairs.

There was 2 AC units the one didnt work and the other one barely worked. (I brought my fan in). I cant sleep if im hot. My windows were overlooking into im assuming a banquet room or storage room. Which was kind of creepy and the windows were unlocked and one opened. The 3rd was like a mirror. The ice machine on my floor didnt work and i saw no vending machines(sign said there was) i was extremely uncomfortable didnt sleep and i know payment was not refundable. I would have went and complained had it not been late in the evening and my child being with me. The staff member at the desk for check in was extremely nice.

Front staff was very friendly and helpful, but the hotel room and interior of the building had broken down items and was very dirty. Roof was leaking and pool has no water.

Towels and sheets were stained. Hair in shower and around bathroom. Hard floors had a visible layer of grease in which you could see many footprints. Carpets were filthy. Wasn't comfortable taking off my shoes or anything. Took a shower, no hot water. This is not even legal. The place should be shut down.

Properly was terrible had dirty walls paint peeling and roaches everywhere air not working some lights not working

I checked out within a hour. I saw roaches and bed bugs

The shower was not clean, mold on curtain. Stated no pets saw a big dog while leaving. Chain was broken on door. Room and hallway smelling like smoke. Lamps were not working had to move mattress to turn on surge protector. Worst experience will never stay there again.

The room had not been vacuumed. Furniture had white dried substances on it. Bathroom door had dried soda dripping down it. Two roaches in the tub in the bathroom. Dead bugs on the vanity. Grease smeared on the light switch in the bathroom. Bathroom fan broken. Make-up finger and hand prints in the shower and on the door frame. Colored pencils in the heating unit vents. Bath towels were brand new and not washed.

This is the grossest place we have ever stayed. The wall next to the bed had drips going down it of what I’m unfortunately guessing to be bodily fluids. Headboards had drips too. Carpet was full of hair. The kitchen was disgusting with drips and splatters everywhere. Drawers were full of dirt and old food. Burners on stovetop did not work. Bathroom shower curtain smelled heavily of mold and mildew and was stained. Hair was everywhere. We’ve stayed in a lot of mediocre places but this was borderline unsafe.

bed sheet was dirty mark badly, I stay 3 nights first night ready to bed very tire and see the sheet was badly dirty yellow mark ..... the room cleaning lady make the bed she just flow up for next guest only she does not care it , I report next day to front desk room was very old , I was not comfortable

Front desk staff were great and very friendly. Now the room is a different story. The carpets were stained and out right disgusting. There were dead roaches and other insects throughout the room along the walls. Did not see any live ones though. Hotel definitely needs a renovation but you can def tell it’s an extended stay type hotel. The upkeep is horrible

We had no remote for the television. There were a couple of bugs in the bathroom and sleeping space. Barely any kitchen utensils. Water damage noted throughout the entire room. Staff was friendly. The space was adequate but it needs a major overhaul.

No windows, toilet seat falling off the toilet, noisy room with constant humming noise all night long.

This is a very basic hotel. Bed was ok comfort. Towels, etc are basic. If you're in Williamsburg for William and Mary its a great location.

Didn’t have the room we booked. Room smelled of smoke and dog. Couldn’t plug in usb. Noises all night.

We have stayed here several times before and this time the ceiling was in need of repairs and the refrigerator was making loud noises.

Wifi is pathetically slow, barely decent enough for browsing and nothing more. No daily house keeping. You have to discard your own trash, and the trash cans outside are always full.

Very spacious with a nice refrigerator and stove good air conditioner only issue was wifi was iffy

When we arrived, we thought check in was running smoothly, but had to go back to the lobby 3 times and the room key still would not work. She gave us the master room card, which we had to bring back down. Then we had to leave without keys, and pick up when we returned. We were not the only one, others were having the same issue. The carpet was very nasty. With huge dark stains throughout the room. The bathroom needed updating. Needs to be deep cleaned. The TV was so small needed a pair of binoculars. It was convenient to where we went and if they cleaned the carpet and vacuumed, it would not have been so bad. The bed was very comfortable.

Overall not a bad hotel except that part of the ceiling fell down hitting me on the head and i also stepped on fallen plaster and some got inbedded in my toe. I told the front desk staff and they didn't allow me to speak to the manager or fill out an incident report. Overall not at all pleased

We stayed for 2 nights. Front Desk staff was extremely kind and courteous. Room was very comfortable. Easy access to everything in the area

I don’t usually leave reviews but I owe people looking to book this hotel. Please rethink about staying here. The hotel is in terrible condition, the entire building smells terrible, the rooms are in poor conditions. Stay away. I have it a two stars because of the staff, they were nice and friendly.

The lobby is nice with lots of lounging areas..I was amazed at how my room look for the price i paid. It was clean and the full kitchen is bigger than my own to be at a hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful with things i needed thèy provided

Friendly staff. Great experience. Close to busch gardens

Pros; kitchen (minus oven / toaster. Price. Location. Staff was friendly. Cons: carpet in hallways & room was vintage 1993 in looks and aroma. Desk chair was broken. Ceiling had quite a bit of peeling popcorn ceiling. Walking down the after-thought ramp in the hallway you could easily hit you head. The bathroom had a disgusting yellow substance dripping down the walls / door.

Enjoyed two nights here my first time in Williamsburg VA. It is in a convenient location. Overall it was clean and the staff was friendly. Would stay again.

Was good place to stay for a quick trip.

The website still says that there is breakfast that animals are welcome and that there is a gym. All three are not true, but I also know that the management of the building has tried to report that to all the hotel websites.

I have stayed here for many years. The service has continued to go downhill this stay I didn't have paper towels in the room and usually there are tea bags for hot tea not this time. When we stayed there in June the toilet was sort of clogged I reported it to the front desk and was given a plunger. I didn't expect that. I am disappointed in how things have changed. Some places you still advertise breakfast but there isn't any. That's enough will probably try some place when we come again

I like the full kitchen with a freezer for our icy items (like ice packs) sometimes needed when there for a bowling tournament. I dislike that breakfast service was discontinued. It’s a huge disappointment.
