Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Grand Rapids-North by IHG

Perfect stay for me, whether it was in room amenities (coffee, refrigerator, microwave), services offered (workout room, pool, spa) or location (convenient to shopping/restaurants, sidewalks for outdoor walking).

Quite a lot of the main areas were being refurbished so it was a minor inconvenience - I wish the hotel description and price had reflected this beforehand.

We got to the hotel at 5 and then had to wait 30 minutes for our room to be ready. We gave no indication that we would be in later than the 3pm check in time. The rooms are average, seems clean but just look old. The picture of the pool makes it look huge but it’s actually very small and was packed to the brim. At breakfast they kept running out of things. But the staff was super attentive and quick to get us what we needed after checking in.

Pool down, but live the dive products in room.

It was secluded from any noise the only downfall was the pool was so small that with everyone swimming it was crowded.

Under construction. The property may be great in the future but is not a great atmosphere now.

We have stayed there 2x now for medical appointments and was happy both times. Everyone was friendly, the rooms were clean, and the hot tub and pool were great.

Very disappointed to find out the pool and hot tub were out of service. Apparently a scheduled event, but no warning for guests. One of the reasons I booked this hotel was for the advertised amenities. I could not cancel my reservation because it was after the deadline.

Very friendly staff. Clean rooms and spacious. Swimming pool and hot tub great, but a little sandy in the bottom. It didn't stop the fun. We will be returning to this facility for sure.

Nice suburban area convenient to everyone. Clean. What I did not like- I booked it partially because of the pool and hot tub option. Then the website said they were not available. Didn't bring my swimsuit and it was available so I was disappointed on that. Otherwise everything was fine.

Such a nice place. Everything was so clean. And so quiet. Beds were comfortable as well. Definitely will stay here again!

They need new mattresses and should wash the comforter inserts all the time. Bad body odor on my comforter insert . They brought me a different one that was clean smelling. Service person was great but neighbor blasting tv not so much

Checked in around 10:30 pm. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come to the front desk. I get to my room and notice the following: the lights between the beds had no shade, the bathroom tub had a scum line from the lack of cleaning, and the overall fit and finish of the room was horrible; they definitley shouldn't be hiring that contractor for anymore work, especially the drywallers. Overall, the cleanliness and care just seemed very half assed. Reminded me more of a poor motel instead of a chain hotel.

Very clean hotel. Our room was right next to the elevator on the first floor, which was very convenient. We were above a courtyard area that was just outside the pool. We purchased a few items from the front desk, which we were able to charge to our room (again, very convenient). Room was well laid out with plenty of ports for charging electronics. Microwave was tiny and a little hard to reach if you’re vertically challenged (like me). I only had 2 minor issues with the stay. There as a persistent sewage smell in the hallway just outside our room. It went away for a few hours the first night replaced by chlorine smell from the pool, but came back for the duration of our stay. The other issue was one of the front desk staff, a female whose name I didn’t get. When I came to the front desk to purchase items she was on the phone. Not only did she not put the person on hold to speak to me, she never once looked me in the eyes. “Just those items? Which room#?” That was the extent of conversation. I would have been happy to wait until her conversation was over, but she never gave the option. I took my items to the breakfast area with my daughter so we could eat and listened to her yelling at someone on the phone. She was very discourteous. The rest of the staff I dealt with was polite, engaging, and friendly. The hotel was conveniently located, with plenty of shopping and restaurant options nearby. Overall, one of my better hotel stays.

The room was clean, and the bed was comfortable, we were not a fan of the pillows. The walls were really thin as we could hear the people walking above us and you could hear from the room above and beside us every time they used the bathroom.

Our check in experience was very professional and quick. The room was spacious and clean. The walls are kind of thin. I could hear conversations from surrounding rooms. The AC unit is pretty loud when it kicks in. Overall, the hotel was nice.

Normally, Holiday Inn Express is very consistent across the board. This one seemed to be a little below par. Our toilet didn't flush in our room (thankfully my husband is a plumber and took care of the minor problem). We also didn't have a shower curtain or a bath mat and had to ask for one before we could take showers. My BIL checked in after us and was told his reservation was under our name. Also, both key cards for our room were shut off after the first night. The desk turned them back on with no issues, but it makes me wonder if they checked us out when they checked my BIL out after the first night.

Everything was good except the noise level of the air conditioner in our room, reminded us of being on an airplane, otherwise everything else was fine

I like having the chaise lounge in my room. It is always nice to have somewhere to sit other than a desk chair or the bed.

Room was clean and comfortable. Was able to get some work done online and stream hulu - wifi was speedy and didn't have any problems. Great shower. Hot breakfast in the mornings was excellent as well, great options!

The toilet Barry worked. Had to wait 20-30 min in between flushes. Was frustrating

Overall good experience. Extremely friendly staff, clean rooms with comfortable beds. Good location and its quiet to be so close to highway.

Please be advised there is a massive remodel here , when I arrived I was treated awful . I won’t go back ….ever

Over all very nice place. 1 problem, no one at the desk for 20 min. when I arrive. I know every one is busy, but you need someone at the front desk at all time. Over all every thing worked out.

Liked it was around several restaurants. It was quite and by the AMC movie theater. Not to far from the Latern Festival thats going on right now at the John Ball park zoo.

I was expecting breakfast like all the other holiday inns where we had biscuits (there weren’t any) and no waffles just pancakes. Half n half and sugar was out just unimpressed and the omelets were cold

The continental breakfast is absolutely wonderful

Shower water weak because 1/2 water was going through faucet, no grab bar in shower, toilet would not flush unless you stood there and held lever down, sink bask splash didn’t touch walls( no issue for us but water can get behind it causing mildew), breakfast; turkey patty was like cardboard, pancakes were very thin. I will say cleaners were very nice and details as was the breakfast attendant was extremely pleasant and attentive. Folks eating really liked her.

No food available at 8 am for breakfast. It was announced that some additional food was being prepared and it would be available in 15 minutes and once that was gone, breakfast would be over well ahead of the scheduled period advertised. Disappointing.

One of the reasons we chose to stay here was the complimentary breakfast. Our group of nine was traveling in two cars and wanted to have a quick breakfast and then hit the road without having to make a separate stop. The pancake maker wasn't working. There was exactly one "omelette" left and it was cold. Similarly, one cinnamon roll available. Microwave was in a different room, and no one around to ask so just found by chance. The orange juice was like water. There were only two bath towels in the room. There was no bag for dirty laundry. No pen or pad of paper as is customary. The TV guide button did not work. There's more, but I'm done with this place.

Everyone at the front desk was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious. And we appreciate that breakfast is early so we can get one with our day.
